When I was in middle school, I loved "Choose Your Adventure" books. Guess what? I still do! 😁 The Spanish Plot is set in 1492 and shows the pain the Jewish community faced when there were forced conversions and eventually, expulsions. This novel follows the grandson of Don Abarbanel and the plot to kidnap and convert him so that Don Abarbanel, Queen Isabella's financial advisor, would be forced to remain in Spain. Yes, that kidnapping plot is true!
This was a great way to teach history. Highly recommend for MG students interested in learning more about Spain, Jewish history, and history in general.
