Wow. Okay. So...
A really enjoyable book, with a nice blend of magic, mythology, romance and action.
The Plot: Maisey is a girl who is a massive social media star, and she aspires to expand her social media influence. After a dare from her friends, she explores a cave they said was scary or haunted or whatever, and her blood accidentally freed a Titan from the cave where he was trapped. His name was Cronus, and he wants to take revenge on the Greek gods for killing and imprisoning his family.
So you thought this book was going to be about revenge, huh? Well no, because on the way, Maisey accidentally opened the Pandora’s box, where the nine deadly sins got out and are going to destroy the world. In order for the world not to be destroyed, they have to awaken the family of the Titans in order to put them all back.
Good stuff: The romance was really good, it wasn’t instant, it was raw and gritty but not to the point that you wouldn’t enjoy their back-and-forth exchanges, from love to arguments. It was well done. The main character was quite likeable, and Cronus was just an amazing love interest and second MC. All the other titans were funny (apart from Rhea), and they all felt like one big family around each other.
I also loved the different play on the traditional Greek mythology. Most of the stories state that the Titans were evil, and the gods were good. In this book, it was the other way around. In most of the stories, Rhea was sweet and lovely, in this one, she is a downright bi—
Anyway, so yeah, really refreshing read and interesting.
Less good stuff, but still okay: Okay, so Maisey, being a social media girl, constantly uses hashtags throughout the book. (Cronus got injured? #Ouch Something like that, anyway). I found them quite irritating to read and felt like it interrupted the narrative.
I thought that the main focus of the book got lost a bit. It was meant to be Cronus extracting revenge against the gods. But the gods weren’t actually portrayed to be that bad, (apart from Zeus), so the lines blurred a bit and I was left feeling a little confused, but that was only a teeny bit.
