Come heck or high water! Following Kinsley's first birthday party, a sudden flood causes the evacuation of most of Coventry. While Brighton and her family are able to keep Hangman's House safe, the rest of the town isn't spared. When the waters recede, a body turns up. At first, it appears the victim got trapped in her house and drowned. Things are not as they appear to be... Swept Away is book 11 in the Wicked Witches of Coventry cozy mystery series.
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
Well this is a nice addition that takes readers back to normal mystery hunting and sleuthing. The prophecy is back up in the air for the second series to tackle, though, since the main danger presented in this series is over. Also, this book takes place when Kinsley is one, so just forget the last bit of book ten because it hasn't happened yet. But anyway, it is amazing how relatable the family issues are in this book. Norah reminds me of my mom, and many things Emma says hits close to home.
I do think this book isn't necessary, however. It feels tacked on for whatever reason.
Issues: 1. Oh boy... Let's take this a step at a time... First off, this book states many times spring is early. Really early. There are even flowers, the windows get rolled down. Well... lol... sorry, but the timeframes are massively off in this book. In the entire series. Wedding is December 21st in book 9 *Six months later Pregnancy revelation is around June 21st in book 9 *Seven months later Kinsley is born around January 21st in book 9 (based on seven months as she comes early, and apparantly Brighton isn't six months pregnant. Also, Amelda is clearly wrong about having a granchild sooner than expected because she waits thirteen months. Meri makes it known early on that a child will be born not long after the wedding, but Amelda seems to believe even sooner). Kinsley's birthday I guess could be in February. Maybe Brighton is one month along when she figures it out and Kinsley is born at eight months. March is out of the question since that marks nine months. Either way... A thunderstorm in winter? Plus a flood? Maybe a blizzard and then a snow in, but not a super early spring. Although I have seen winter storms hit, melt away, and then a strange warmth spread across the state for a week. 2. Now we have an Amelda Skeenbauer and an Amelia Stackhouse. Can you say confusing. 3. Meri has two scenes. The birthday cake scene where he has one line and the cemetery scene where he protects workers from ghosts. That isn't the full problem, though. Meri shows up at the cemetery unannounced. There is literally no point where he asks to go anywhere or he is invited anywhere or is even acknowledged. He appears out of nowhere. 4. Places where there should be a scene break, no scene break, or chapter split. 5. Typos, typos, and more typos. Seriously, get an editor... or at least use Word Read Aloud as you edit so you can hear what you are seeing. It is like you wrote this entire series without going over any of it even once.
It's Kinsley's first birthday and it's heralded by a wicked storm. Fortunately, the Aunties, Annika and Gunner are there, so when the flooding begins the Skeenbauer witches begin a twenty-four-hour protection around Hangman's House. Gunner has to leave much to Annika's dismay, but she is reassured by her family that he is well protected and will be fine.
Once the storm is over Annika and Brighton head out to find Gunner since he's not answering his phone. they find him save and sound only to find out he's going to take their vehicle and all the others that were at the house. They are the only ones running since they weren't flooded out. Annika and Bright begin checking on the residents of Coventry and call in the family to help. In the process, they come across a body, one that may or may not have succumbed to the floods.
With law enforcement swamped with not only paperwork but also the aftermath of the floods, Brighton and Remy take on the investigation. It seems deceased wasn't very well liked by anyone, not even her children. Norah was mean spirited and verbally abusive to everyone. With some mean pranks thrown in. That makes it hard to pin down who could be responsible.
The funeral is a telling event and is sort of interrupted by workers headed to the older part of the cemetery. Meri fortunately aids that situation.
This investigation is a bit difficult as obviously no one cared for Norah. Gunner was most appreciative for their help since he and his deputies are overwhelmed.
Siblings, neighbors, lawyers and more as this tale unfolds with more than a couple twists.
The only thing I have to say as this series ends, is that this book seems out of order. The previous book has more of Kinsley's childhood, and the epilogue leads into the new series starring Meri and Kinsley.
That said, I truly enjoyed this series, it's all fun quick reads, with the mysteries and Meri.
Needless to say I need more Meri so I've started the next series.
Kinsley's celebrating her first birthday party with her family and relatives when a sudden flood forces evacuation of the town. The witches are able to keep Hangman's House safe, but the flood waters are everywhere else! Helping out by going door to door to check on people, Brighton finds a body in the kitchen, assumed drowned. Further investigation shows that the victim was murdered! And unfortunately, Norah was not well liked, so there are many suspects for Brighton and Remy to consider as they start to investigate.
Another wonderful cozy mystery in this series! Great characters we all know and love, along with a fast-paced plot and a mystery to tackle, keeps the reader avidly following along trying to figure out who did what and why! Grab your copy and join the hunt for the murderer!
I am such a huge fan of this series and I always look forward to reading more. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but it reads better if you have read the whole series. I love Remy and Brighton. They play off each other so well and I am so glad they ended up together. When they are together, it is pure magic!
Written as a 1st person, single pov with a completed mystery ending. Strong story line, awesome characters, engaging dialogue, and easy to visualize detailed descriptions. One thing I really missed was Meri. We only had Meri for 1 lil scene and poof, gone.
Would I recommend this book? Yes
Would I read more from this author? Yes
Sassy Beta Reading and Review

A great supernatural cozy mystery series. 11 books total in the series. A wonderful cast of characters on a slightly dark cozy mystery storyline. A supernatural family in a special town or this family is a coven of witches. Follow along in the adventures. No spoilers but she will not be disappointed. A crazy cat familiar a powerful grandmother that is head of the Kevin. And plenty of aunts cousins etc. The normal towns people do not notice most of the magic. On occasion someone will and then you never know what might happen. Very entertaining and a great read. Check it out
I'm going to start by saying this should have been listed as 10.75, not book 11 because it occurs between the end of book 10 & the epilogue, but that's just splitting hairs. I had this whole series from Amazon and kept reading each one, even though the characters were annoying, the stories were bad and the editing basically none existent.
Once again, things were rushed and "ta-da" we find out who the killer is and the book is done. This one was better than the others, as it seems like Brighton & Annika actually act like adults, instead of teenagers like the other books, but all the characters & events still aren't flushed out. Honestly, I'm glad I'm done with this series.
Book 11 of the Wicked Witches of Coventry series... Excellent story line...Brighton and Remi are celebrating Kinsley's 1st birthday...they have bound her powers because she is an infant and a strong witch A storm starts during the birthday party and there is a threat of flooding... The witches hold back the wall of water from Brighton' home but can't help the hole town... Brighton helps the police department go door to door to see if everyone is okay But what does Brighton find, a dead body, and another murder to solve... How does she get into these things? Love the characters in this series... Highly recommend if you like cozy mysteries
I was devastated at the end of Baby Broom when I thought that I would never read read another book about the Witches of Coventry. Life was restored to me with this book. From the very beginning, the reader is taken on an adventure until the very end. I do feel as if this book was written to help us readers cope with the end of the series. For that I say Thank You. This book is a quick read and it does not disappoint.

Not unexpectedly, things are pretty intense at baby Kinsley’s first birthday party. A small shower becomes an epic regional flood.
As the Skeenbauer Coven does their best to help their family, town and region, things are revealed about their own family and others nearby. The witches aren’t the only ones with dark secrets
Another tangled mystery in Coventry

This is another great cozy mystery in the Wicked Witches of Coventry series. With great quirky characters, magic in the air and a great mystery to solve. The storyline is filled with interesting suspects, great clues, surprises, unexpected twists, danger and suspense. I really enjoyed this book and the entire series.
Typos, typos, typos! Including using a wrong name. But mostly it’s weird that the last book summarized Kinsley’s whole childhood & then in this one she’s 1 yr old. And at the end of reading it on Kindle, it says there’s a next one, “Turkey Trot Terror”, but apparently there isn’t? I would like to have read about Kinsley growing up.
I posted this review after reading this title as part of the series boxed set.
After a humongous flood, a body is found. However, it was death by drowning that had done the old woman in, but poisoning. Therefore, there's a murderer on the loose, and Brighton, being the one that had found the body, felt responsible for finding the killer.
This series is so much fun to read. You feel like the characters are old friends, and indeed they are after getting to know them in the series. Cannot wait to see how Kinsley grows. Brighton and Remy will definitely have their hands full in future stories and I cannot wait to read them.
I really was glad to see another of in this series since I thought the last book was the end. This was not as intense as some of the books but is a good transition between just Brighton and crew and having a one year old. Can't wait for the next installment.
This book was good but not quite as gripping as the others, it doesn't follow on like the others in the series either. Great story though and I did suspect who did it from about half way but it was still a surprise when the "wicked witch's" killer was revealed.
What a great series. It has all the good things a series should have. A snarky main character, friends and family who help out and the mysteries and deaths of people who shouldn't have to die. And now a new series to check out. So onward and many thanks to the author.
A new beginning. Oh my goodness! I'm on about book 19 of the second series familiar kitten and I can't wait to see how that one ends especially after reading the end of this one.
This book was by far the best written in the series. It was also dreadfully sad. When parts of the town is flooded, Brighton and Remy help their community and solve a murder that may have been better off left alone. The story was devastatingly deep and emotionally heartbreaking!
This book was ok, not as good as some of the other books in this series. Decent ending/beginning though. I did like how the author wrote the "victim", she sounded wonderfully horrible like any good villain should be.
This book was absolutely pointless. It is labeled #11, but it actually takes place when Kinsley is only 1 yr old. It has nothing to do with anything really. I'm not sure why it was written in the order it was. There are no more books in this series which makes it extra pointless.
I’m glad this was the last in the series, each book kept getting shorter and short for a reason… I’m glad the story closed out the way it did and glad Remy and Brighton worked through this mystery together like it was a date 🤣 The story line of this one closed out too quick.
