Dawson Hoshaw lives by one motto—work hard, play harder. As the owner of Blue Lotus, a tattoo and piercing shop, he’s got the first part covered. The second part, he accomplishes through meaningless hookups and no-strings-attached encounters. It’s safer this way, with no risk of getting his heart broken again. But when his best friend, Peyton, enters him in a contest—and wins—Dawson finds himself the recipient of an all-expenses paid singles cruise around Australia, courtesy of Valentine’s Inc.
As long as he can remember, Stephen Kincaid has known it’s his duty to take over his family’s chain of men’s clothing stores. The closer his father grows to retirement, the more responsibility Steven assumes. Running multiple businesses and living up to expectations doesn’t leave him with much time for dating, and he can’t remember the last time he took a vacation. So when he wins a contest he didn’t even enter, he can’t pass up the opportunity to see Australia before returning to his humdrum life.
When a mix-up forces Dawson and Steven to share a cabin, their dream vacation turns into a nightmare. It wouldn’t be so bad if they could escape each other during the day, but it’s hard not to run into one another. And the more time they spend together, the more they find they don’t want to stay away. After a night of passion, Stephen and Dawson can’t help giving in to the growing feelings between them. But how can they make this vacation fling work once they go back to the real world?
Battle Ship is a Valentine’s Inc. novella, but you will see familiar faces with this Forever in Middlebury Crossover. It can be read as a standalone and is intended for adults 18 and over.
Nothing like winning a cruise you know nothing about, and to have to endure that cruise with someone you hate. Well, not necessarily hate, but someone that makes you feel things you never have and don't know what to do with yourself. Dawson gets a surprise from his best friend, in the form of a cruise to New Zealand. He's excited and thanks him, until he realizes it's a singles cruise. What makes it worse, is his best friend's boyfriend's best friend, Stephen, won the same cruise and for some reason, he seems to hate Dawson. Although Dawson has never done anything to the man. Now not only do they have to split the cruise, they have to share the same cabin and some of the dinners. Dawson wonders if he can go home. Stephen thinks the same thing. But Dawson decides he's going to have fun in spite of Stephen. They eventually make a truce but every time Stephen sees Dawson talking to some guy, he thinks the worst and treats Dawson like crap after. Well, at a dinner, Stephen runs away after seeing something and assuming the wrong thing. And Dawson has had enough. He goes back to the room to hash it out and it ends up a passionate night. But on the last day, Dawson wonders if they will continue on and Stephen says something that goes too far. Dawson is destroyed and Stephen doesn't think he can ever make it right. I don't care how old you are, coming out is hard. Even if everyone seems to already know. With bullying and homophobia, kids being kicked out, people being beaten, families disowning each other, it's just horrifying. So I don't blame Stephen for being upset at how he feels for Dawson. I am upset by how he treats Dawson. It's not Dawson's fault and he has no clue why Stephen is acting the way he is. The bad part is Stephen has no clue Dawson is really gun shy. With what happened to him 5 years ago, he's not ready to jump onto a relationship or anything. He just wants to have fun. Yeah, he's aware that it's kind of given him a rep back home but oh well. Sure he gets lonely, but he's rather be lonely than go through that ordeal again. But these two have a chemistry that's off the charts. They're both just fighting it. Stephen maybe a bit harder than Dawson, but still. And they both realize how electric it is when they finally come together. But in order to fix it for either of them, they have to let go of doubts and fears. And embrace a new life. Another good book in this series. http://lovebytesreviews.com/
Okay, yes, another deviation from my TBR piles, but in all fairness, this series (Cruises) is linked to the Valentine's Inc series (a lot of the same authors were invited to contribute, the whole cupid company idea is the same, and a lot of the side characters in the original series are now main characters in this one) and each book has a cute ship-themed title. The fourth book in this series is titled "Battle Ship," and it's by Brittany Cournoyer. ["Dawson Hoshaw lives by one motto—work hard, play harder. Their friends on the ship saw the chemistry and the sexual tension, but they ignored it..or tried to.
There was a little bit of a bump slash break-up slash I almost cried, but spoiler alert, there was a happily ever after. ;)
This is Meh It has great potential but it wasn’t well executed and all the actions took place in the last 25 pages or so!! I skipped a lot, I got bored with all details about the activities the 4 friends shared, it was damn long and so unnecessary. I needed more Dawson and Stephen together on pages. Instead most of the book is about them bickering and spending time with their new friends. We got 2 scenes of them bickering, 2 hanging out as friends, 1 sex scene, a break you scene and making up scene. The rest is Dawson trying to find a quick fuck from day 1 he wanted to get pounded to the mattress “Eyes Rolling” and hanging out with their new friends. Everything between them started in chapter 17 we got only one sex scene, Stephen ends things in chapter 18 the last night of the cruise and they got back together in chapter 19 just after a few days after coming back home and the end!! No Epilogue not even a satisfied HFN. Nothing!
Started off great with a nice storyline & interesting characters. The tension between the two MC had a nice build up too. Then, boom it peaked (climate of story...in more ways than one), a few more pages and HEA. There wasn't a smooth ending after the couple got together. Yes, they did after a tiny conflict but it was resolved very easily & quickly. Very low angst.
For some reason, this one just didn't hold my attention... but it could have been my inability to sit still today... dang ADHD... grrr
This had its good points and a few "seriously?" moments... but all in all it was better than watching paint dry! Sorry, I was just kidding! If you want a quick read to fill in a few hours of your day, this book would get the job done!
I liked Battle Ship but all the errors/typos out me off somewhat. Also, Stephen was an idiot. There, I've said it. All in all the Valentine's Inc Cruises series has been a bit of a mixed bag for me so far!
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is a book in the Valentine Inc. Cruises seres. In this book, Dawson owns a tattoo parlour and his best friend tells him he won a cruise, but he can't go, so he wants Dawson to take it. Dawson agrees, but then he finds out it is a singles cruise. Dawson don't have relationships since he had his heart broken and he has no interest in finding someone for a relationship. He only has one night stands and he thinks the cruise could be fun. Stephen is a workaholic and he gets an email saying he won cruise. He was going to ignore it, but something told him to go on the vacation now before his work gets even busier. When Stephen went to cash in the cruise, he sees Dawson there. They had briefly met through friends and Stephen was confused about his attraction to Dawson because he was straight. Stephen was questioning himself and seeing Dawson annoyed him. There was a mix up and there was only supposed to be one cruise, but they have to split the prize. When they board the ship, Stephen is even more annoyed when he learns he is sharing a room with Dawson. Dawson tries to make the best of things and wants to call a truce between them and Stephen is wondering how he is going to get through the cruise so close to Dawson and control his feelings. I really liked this book, i laughed out loud and loved the love/ hate relationship they had. I loved Dawson and his carefree attitude, i think Stephen needed to give up control and go with the flow of things. This was a very entertaining read. Great one.
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow- Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the kids' series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or 'Liberty' from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey’s books) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times a year (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time- reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok). It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
As an avid fan of Brittany Cournoyer, I was definitely curious what she would do with a fluffy type romance. Rest assured, she did great! Battle Ship, her contribution to the multi author series, Valentine's Inc Cruises, is fabulous.
Poor Steven's been questioning his sexuality recently. If that wasn't bad enough, he ends up on a cruise with the man that is making him question everything, Dawson. They had only met once, but Steven took an instant dislike to the man who flustered him, and tried to keep his distance.
Steven's the typical closeted man who's in denial about his true feelings. He's a structured man who doesn't take risks and doesn't know how to let go. Ever. Dawson meanwhile, wants Steven to let loose and enjoy his time on the cruise.
This is a delicious enemies to lovers romance. It's a slow burn, as they slowly, very slowly, go from enemies to lovers. Yet, considering they fall in love during a cruise, it's also insta-loveish. And, the first time the met, the sparks flew, literally.
Overall, Steven and Dawson's love story is downright sweet and tender. The writing is great, and fluffy, unlike most of the author's books. Battle Ship is just a feel-good, sappy romance. Sit back and enjoy!
Dawson doesn't really believe in relationships, not after he was hurt by his last serious boyfriend. His best friend Peyton signed him up to win a cruise to New Zealand and he won. It's a singles cruise and there's a problem. The travel agency employee accidentally signed him up along with another man, Stephen. Dawson is laid back and lives in the moment and Stephen is very regimented and rules oriented. Stephen is also fighting a budding attraction to Dawson and a newly awakened sexuality. He comes across as gruff and staid because he's afraid of what it means for his life to be in a relationship with a man, and especially how his family will react. When he sees Dawson with another man, jealousy rears it's ugly head and he decides to let his feelings for Dawson be known. As they continue the cruise, they get to know each other better. When Dawson asks about continuing the relationship between them when they get back home, Stephen panics and emphatically tells Dawson there's no way it can continue because he hasn't accepted his truth yet and despairs that his family will find out and reject him. When he gets back, he discusses this with his mother and realizes what a fool he's been. He goes to apologize to Dawson and both men get their HEA.
This was a short, low-angst, sort-of-enemies in forced proximity story. Dawson and Stephen are thrown together on a Valentine's Inc cruise to New Zealand after both winning the prize. Only having met once before, and with Stephen taking a dislike to Dawson, having to share the prize package leads to a rather unwelcome situation of suddenly not being able to escape one another. Even since meeting Dawson, Stephen had been struggling with his sexuality and really this is the underlying root of their animosity - the attraction sizzling between them. Dawson is a little more relaxed about the situation and slowly being around him gets Stephen to open up and experience being in the moment.
I really liked the secondary characters of Abby and Donny. They were great friends to both Stephen and Dawson respectively, and not to mention the little bubbles of jealousy they helped stir to the surface. It's not long before the forced proximity, jealousy and secret mutual feelings leads to something that can't be ignored anymore...
*I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Start with a splash of enemies-to-lovers and add in some forced proximity and what do you get? A spicy, sweet romance by Brittany Cournoyer! Dawson and Stephen both work in the same town. Their best friends are partners but when they first meet it doesn’t go well. Come to find out, they’ve both won a cruise but have to share the trip. It’s a recipe for disaster, or is it?
I love enemies-to-lovers stories because the tension is so delicious and when these two are forced together in close quarters it only adds to delectable push and pull between them. Both Stephen and Dawson have an immediate attraction to each other but they struggle with how the other makes them feel. What I enjoyed most about this book is that although they have the immediate attraction, they fight it and are slow to start something. When they do give in, wow, is it hot! Plus, watching Stephen and Dawson go from bickering to falling in love was wonderful.
A truly enjoyable, sweet and sexy read. You’ll fall in love too.
🛳 A love boat and forced proximity: recipe for hurt or happiness?🤔 September 1, 2019 Format: Kindle Edition 👥This was a short, low anxiety, opposites thrown together, vacation romance that I enjoyed, but I must admit, I was a tad disappointed. I had hoped there would be more about activities and sights in New Zealand. I guess that the shorter novella format meant the bulk of the story had to focus on the onboard romance rather than the sights. But I also got the impression that the author did not do much research on New Zealand for the land scenes. I never heard, for instance, that keas, New Zealand's mischievous alpine parrots, were New Zealand's most endangered bird. (I believe that sorry title belongs to the kakapo, not the kea).
💕🔥As to the romance, I liked the romantic lead backstories and the tension that heated their relationship.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book: this is my voluntary and honest review.
The push-pull of discovering attraction and accepting who you are. I really loved Dawson in this story, he was intent on living life and staying away from heartbreak. Stephen has gotten so caught up in trying to keep his life orderly that he is isolating himself and making life miserable. The writing flowed and the book was a fun read.
As these guys decide to be friends for the cruise they start to find common ground and we see a softer side of both men. Stephen and Dawson have lots of chemistry and together they find they have more in common than they think. Their hearts connected and with a little help they find their way.
This is part of the Valentine's Inc series and can be read as a stand-alone.
I was gifted this book from the LesCourt Author Services and i freely give my honest opinion and review.
I love how the Valentine's Inc. Cruises series caters to all tastes,to every favorite trope possible.
And enemies to lovers is the one in Battle Ship by Brittany Cournoyer. Stephen and Dawson start off as enemies mostly because Stephen hates how attracted he is to Dawson and his gut reaction is to lash out and antagonize the other man, forcing Dawson to respond in kind. It was highly entertaining to watch them snap at each other and do their best to avoid crossing paths. Until any resistence became futile and they had to give in to their need for one another.
So,pick up Battle Ship and get ready for fun, sweetness, hotness and two men who finally find happiness.
Dawson is relationship shy due to being left at the later. Stephen is afraid of his attraction to men. Their best friends are dating, but the attraction they feel towards each other is squashed by Stephen’s avoidance. When they both win a cruise and need to go together, they think it will be awful, but they find that friendship, and eventually more, is in the cards for them. I liked how there wasn’t a ton of angst and fighting against their feelings. It was a sweet book with a nice HFN. I would’ve loved a little glimpse into the future to show their solid HEA, but it was enjoyable all around.
I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC provided by LesCourt Author Services
Disclaimer: This book is a very slow burn and I am not a fan of those. So it is hard to write a review because in no way does my preference effect the quality of the book.
Dawson is easy to like right from the start. A bit snarky and a bit sweet (my favorite combination). It took me a while to warm up to Stephen he is very rigid and has his feelings locked up tight.
I really like that they have a small history with each other and that makes them being thrown together more interesting. I think they make an adorable couple I just would have really liked it if it didn’t take so long to get there.
This is a really good book if you are a fan of slow burn.
I enjoy reading the Valentine's Inc Cruises books. It so fun reading how unlikely the men are that they find their soulmate. Steven was a man that works too many hours for his family business with no time for love or relationship. Let alone being with a man cause he worries what his family will think. Dawson has been hurt so bad before that he doesn't do relationships. Then the unthinkable happens both Stephan and Dawson has to share a prize cruise and cabin. Watching them fall in love was funny at times. I voluntary review this Advance Readers Copy of this book.
Quick Battles. This is an enemies to lovers tale that also happens to be a very fast read. Cournoyer does an excellent job of quickly showing just how much these two guys *don't* like each other... and then the hijinks ensue. Great tale of one man being burned by love and another not sure what he is coming together rather explosively. My first from this author, will not be my last. Very much recommended.
This was a cute and funny story. I really liked Dawson from the beginning, and Stephen grew on me. The whole coincidence of the two men both being gifted with cruise tickets and ending up having to room together was a bit over the top, but I still enjoyed the banter and interaction between the men enough to overlook that. This is a great series, and this is a really fun addition. Once Stephen loosened up, he and Dawson were a really sweet and sexy couple. I'm really glad I read this one.
Enemies to lovers is one of my favourite tropes and this one did not disappoint. The premise was great and I liked that the characters knew each other somewhat or the insta-love might’ve been a bit much for my personal taste. I’ve enjoyed both of Brittany’s books in the Valentines Inc. series and love forward to reading more of her work.
Now is the turn of Brittany Cournoyer to make a fabulous story in the Valentine's Inc. Cruises world. In this trip, Stephen fell in love with Dawson while accepting himself as he is, healing Dawson's heart in the process. Great reading!! Also, you'll notice some friendly faces from other Ms Cournoyer's series, a really nice bonus. Yay!!!
This was a different kind of enemies to lovers. Stephen had been struggling with his sexuality since he met Dawson. When they're thrown together because of a mistake in the contest for this singles cruise they develop a truce. Stephen finds it harder to resist and Dawson starts to hope maybe he can love again.
This is the story of Dawson and Stephen. I loved this story. It is written beautifully with great characters. Filled with emotional ups and downs that keeps you turning the pages. Chemistry between them is off the charts. Great great read. Can't wait for the next book.
I received this book as an Arc and I am reviewing it voluntarily.
This story! What a whirlwind of emotions! I absolutely loved the yes iin between the MCs and their background stories! The setting on a cruise and the overall plot were really well done and I could not wait to see what makes them give in! It was a very entertaining story and another great addition to the series!
