I don’t know what I expected to happen when I swallowed the little golden pill, but passing out and waking up in another century was not a side-effect I was prepared for.
Neither was being hauled out of the Thames sputtering and shivering by a man with only half a face and being taken back to his home. Or finding that he lived with three other equally mysterious and gorgeous men.
They weren’t exactly quick to welcome me, and something about them isn’t right. Not entirely… human.
I was on the cusp of figuring it out when I woke up. Back in the present. At first, I chalked it all up to a bad trip, but I’ve never been good at letting sleeping dogs lie.
In my hunt for answers and the dealer who can get me more of the strange drug, I’ll find the truth. Whether I’m ready to hear it or not. And then there will be no turning back.

Hey. Read on for some fun facts about Victorians and Nipple Rings
I had a fun time. The characters were cute, the concept was intriguing and there was never a point where I was bored. I was actually dreading the end while watching the pages run out.
That being said, if you're a stickler for historical accuracy, this misses it on a few points. Small details, details that literally every Hollywood movie or series ever makes, but this is a fantasy. an RH fantasy, and it would be silly to expect absolute accuracy. There were also a few plot continuity errors, (like one moment she's barefoot and then the next she somehow has boots again but not really a big deal to me. Also not getting on the horse to run away but okay.)
So just for funsies, here are some fun facts about Victorian times!
1. Wearing your hair down would be absolutely scandalous in Victorian times. Ladies always wore their hair up, was just the fashion at the time. I had a good giggle imagining our MC with her hair down in the middle of Victorian society. The Atrocity
2. Corsets, when worn right, don't damage your body. A lot of working girls wore corsets regularly. The claim that corsets mess up your body actually came from very extreme examples of women who practiced something called tight lacing. That's the kind that everyone thinks about when we see corsets. Tight lacing can absolutely affect your body. For example, it can cause muscle atrophy in your lower back since you're relying on the corsets tightness to hold you up. It can also deform your ribs after an extensive period of time. Tight lacing though wasn't as common as some think. It was fashionable for a time and advertised but not many went to the extremes we think of today.
3. Victorians were goofy and took dumb photos (and selfies) just like we do today Here are some fine examples:
and my favorite:
BECAUSE IT'S THRILLER! THRILLER NIGHT!
4. Victorians were into some kinky shit. like Nipple Rings. That's right. You heard me. NIPPLE RINGS They were called Bosom Rings though. They came into fashion around 1890 (there's actually evidence of a guy getting his pierced in 1888 with a bunch of his friends when he was in our USA high school equivalent!) and for a bit shops in Paris offered to do em. I found some fun document evidence of a woman talking about how her and her cousin absconded to Paris and got nipple rings in secret. Also some people asking about how to take care of their nipple rings and if it affected breast feeding.
Other scandelous things featured women in lingerie riding actual charriots, burlesque shows, and VERY DETAILED EROTICA.
Lots of 'heavy petting.'
For as pious as they seem to be, Victorians still got their freak on. There weren't any nipple rings in this but it gives me no end of pleasure reading this book, knowing the year is in 1888, and somewhere are a bunch of goofy high school kids with pierced nipples.
The book is UF contemporary magic and time travel. The MC is 18 and has grown up in a home with money but not love. Mother dies young... #issues. She experiments see peer pressure with drugs on a boat #becausethatssmart and then falls over board into freezing cold water only to end up in 1888..... #dontdodrugskids.... #youwonttimetravel. How she does it is not explained in this book. So hopefully the next one .
Anyway..... that’s where we meet the harem 4 guys who call each other brothers and they have their own issues. But they introduce her to a world of magic/ shifters. The book isn’t written well honestly, the MC is concerned “I don’t even know their favourite colours or what music they liked” like THAT’S IMPORTANT ....
The guys are pretty stereotypical 1. Everett - the big hulky beast shifter who calls himself a monster 2. Alex the Scottish hot one with a drug problem 3. Ellis the mute one who likes to fix thing ?? 4. Jasper the masked boy...
And I say all this .... even if it was cringe and teenager-like I would still read the next book but it’s not out till March Like I said . Mixed feelings I didn’t love it or like it buuuuut time travel isn’t a genre iv read a lot of so it’s interesting.
Maybe a 3...maybe. Apart from the cursing and sex references, it read like YA. There wasn’t much depth of explanation and world building. We spent too much time going round and round in Beck’s head about some such f*ckery and all her issues and angst that zzzzzzzz what? Oh right, there are vampires and shifters, and why is this book so boring? Time travel? Witches?
No! Let’s stay inside Beck’s noggin some more and go on about her mom issues some more, shall we? Also, just for fun, let’s discuss stereotypes:
—beautiful blond hulk with inside-monsters (surly, possessive, alpha) —dark haired, pouty lipped phantom of the opera emo boy. —angry red haired Scottsman with a big old horsey (no that’s not a euphemism) —last and certainly the most messed-up is the mute African skinned man who is the SERVANT type character.
I’m feeling some feelings about this book (none of them very good), but in spite of all that bull shite, I’ll still read the next one.
I am both happy and upset I read this. I'm happy because this was so interesting and a new twist on time traveling. I'm angry because I have to wait months for book two. This is why I rarely start a new series.
"Escape is escape—no matter where you are. As long as you left where you were to get there."
Not bad, but I just wished it was a little bit more realistic in its portrayal of 1888 England-or that the story had a bit more world building, if any...but I didn't really mind all that much- considering its paranormal fantasy some times ya gotta let that go.
I think I enjoyed this more than I would have bc I'm such a sucker for time travel books...and it was pnr with a reverse harem to boot.
I'm not terribly invested in the characters just yet- but I'll probably read on to the next one to see where the story is going- and its on KU so bonus.
BUT the story did have a huge pet peeve of mine in it
This was a pretty average RH. Not bad, but not great either.
The concept is pretty interesting: girl takes mystery drug and is swot back in time to 1888 where she meets a group of supernatural men who are all instantly besotted with her.
I suppose this was sort of my issue: the insta love. Well, maybe not love, but this instant, before I even know you, cheesy connection. It just didn't feel believable and therefore I wasn't particularly invested in any of the characterz or the relationships.
My favourite part was that one of the men was horribly disfigured from being burnt and wore a mask covering one sod eif his face, which I thought was a refreshing break from the normal type of men.
It's worth giving this book a shot though, if you're a fan of the genre.
Katie May is quickly becoming a ‘one click but’ author for me. Add in Lawson and this book becomes even better. I love time travel novels, but it is so hard to do them right. This one offers up a glimpse of obvious differences, a new world and a host of possibilities. Can’t wait for book 2!
First person, multiple POV, Cliffhanger. Time travel PNR, Slow burn RH. Rating = R Romantic dynamic = MMMMF Character age range = 22+
Pros: - Well written. - She’s snarky and tough, but still human and approachable. - ALL the guys! I love them! Even for an intro novel, that is set over just a few days, we STILL get a good feel for who they are, and how different they really are from each other. In many RH novels, the guys kinda blend together... not here. SOOO different.
Cons: - Foreshadowing drops for book 2 feel a bit blatant, hope they get twisted a touch for a surprise.
Chasing Time by Katie May and Elena Lawson is the first book in their "Her Immortal Legacy" series. These two authors take readers on a thrilling story that takes a minute to grab you, but once it does...hang on tight because it's going to be a wild ride! Chasing Time is a Time Travel Reverse Harem story. For me, this story starts off a bit slow. I read along trying to figure out when the paranormal aspect was going to come into play. I thought there might be a couple of moments with a certain character, but when the big moment hits...it's subtle. So...when the revelation happens...the authors get the desired moment of shock from me. Haha! I wanted to know how exactly it happened, yeah, it's kinda obvious, but I was expecting a bit of flair. Now! I absolutely love that each of the guys is so unique and has their own stories. We get one with this story, but I'm hopeful that we'll get more with the next. This story is so well written and I did not want to put this book down one time as I was reading it. Yes! It's THAT good! Beck is an interesting character, but true to form, she's not one of those "okay I'll do as you say" types either. Which of course infuriates a couple of the guys, but also...makes them want her more. Not surprising there. LOL! Now, there isn't much that I don't like about this book but I will point out a couple of discrepancies that I noticed while reading. The first one is when Beck is told a couple of things about the..."beings" that inhabit this period along with humans. Beck bolts. Now, when she runs...she's barefoot. The authors point this out because Beck can feel the silt, the grit, the dirt under feet and the ground cutting into her feet as she runs. She soon encounters danger. Now in these scenes...the authors have shoes mysterious appear on Beck's feet. I thought I had missed something somewhere, but it's the same day. Also, she chose not to wear a corset that same day...but then in the same time period that Beck is in danger...she suddenly has a corset on as well. I found it odd as it was clearly stated she decided to skip one that day, and she didn't change clothes when she got back to the house. Other than those two minor issues I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The authors give us a major twist and a small cliffhanger ending, but I am literally chomping at the bit to grab the next book in this series. I am beyond eager to learn what happens next. If you like time travel novels mixed with reverse harem then I am sure that you are going to love this book.
I loved the premise of this story! I wish it was longer though, I felt like things were just getting started and it was over. I’ll definitely be reading the next one in the series.
This was my first read of a book by either author and I'm official hooked! Argh I can't believe I have to wait five months until the sequel. Beck fled to England to escape horrific news she learned about her father. Thankfully her aunt had no problem with taking her in during this sabbatical. She decides to go out on the town with her childhood friend Amy (she used to visit every summer after the death of her mother) to London. The very last thing she thought would happen after taking a "relaxation" pill offered up while letting loose on a yacht was to wake up in the Thames in Victorian times. A mysteries mysterious man rescued her from the cold of the river and takes her to the safety of his house. She didn't realize how different things were until the morning after. Dealing with four good looking strangers, and the fact she might've time traveled leaves her at odds within her own mind. Who can she trust? How did she get here, and can she get back! There's intrigue and action on this book. Beck discovers things are even more fantastical than just time traveling one hundred years in the past. Be warned, this does end in a huge cliffhanger! I for one was desperate to get to book two! Here's hoping it comes out sooner than currently stated! I loved the mysterious element to this tale, and honestly CAN'T WAIT to see what happens next! Now I'm going to check out the rest of the book titles by these two to ride me over in the meantime 😉💖
So freaking good!! I need more now! I’m so incredibly invested in this. 4 handsome gentleman with danger lurking within them a feisty main character and a turbo charged energy flowing through them all. So good, interesting plot and back stories!
Ok so I was warned. The authors warn you of a cliff hanger but we all know there is different types of those babies so with that and the fact this book came out days short of a year ago I read it. Now I will admit this book was hard to get into. Deeply. It became awesome once the guys joined the cast. And then the cliff came calling... The authors say look for book two and I even clicked the button but Amazon has ZIP , ZILCH on it. Goodreads shows it was " published" in March ( lies right? They always say that ) but nothing. One Goodreads comment says that once ago it had an Amazon life and it was to come out March 2020 but now we are in November 2020 and it seems this book has falling into a Hole. I've checked the Authors FB pages and no mention of this book. Now I've had authors do this before. Say the second is commingled and years later still nothing. Oh year it's been like 8 years for Sterling's book the fourth and much anticipated book in a shifter series and NOTHING. I can't stand when authors leave you hanging or just clueless. I especially hate reading cliff hangers with no ending insight. So I'm crossing fingers and praying to book Gods that this doesn't happen to this series. Because then this book becomes awful. So fingers crossed. This Book was different because the guys were different. They weren't " whole" I guess. I liked that they weren't perfect. So again let's hope book two comes out soon.
DNF which I never would have thought I would type given that Katie May is one of the authors.
The concept was intriguing - traveling back in time and ending up with a bunch of guys. First off, I didn’t like Beck. She’s supposed to be this badass who can take care of herself and very little if that spirit came through when she was transported back in time.
The men were overly cliched and damaged. I didn’t feel any kind of connection to them. I started skimming ahead about halfway through and then just stopped. Life is too short to read books in the hope that they get better.
I'm not a huge fan of time travel stories they always break my heart. I'm the girl who refused to watch the second season of outlander because I'm not putting myself through that but I gave this a shot because I'm a fan of both of these authors and I was not disappointed. I loved it so much I couldn't put it down. It's was interesting start to finish and and hoping book two will be available soon!
THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD! holy crap I’m in pain because of how bad I want the second book right now. Time-travel romance are the best, and combines with RH and how amazing all the guys in this book are, I couldn’t get enough. Imma be stalking this book for the next year or however long it takes until it’s not on hold anymore.
This is such an awesome book!!! Loved the storyline and the characters but ahhhhh that ending!!!! I need to know what happens! So excited for the next book!!!!
I absolutely loved this book! Definitely a one of the kind, the aspect of time traveling is super interesting! I can’t wait for the next book because this one was just getting to juicy parts and leading up to something big. Does end on a cliff hanger!
I enjoy time travel books, so I was immediately drawn to the book. I enjoyed the characters a lot. I wasn’t ready for it to end when it did! When is book 2 coming out?!
I guess the premise of the book sounded good but I ended up skipping and then just gave up. The mc was supposed to know martial arts but none of that was shown. The mc was weak and the extent of her self denials that she time travel was dragged out too long.
I ended up not liking the mc and the guys were not hot at all. The guys were a mute, an opium druggie, angry/moody one, and a weak one with a feminine attributes. Maybe if the mc had some power or was kicked ass, and the guys were hot, this would be an awesome book. Unfortunately that didn't happen. This was boring with annoying characters. I guess this book was not for me. Skip this one if you're not into foul mouth mc, with drag out plotline, and unlikable characters.
Overall it was a good story. Haven’t read time travel stories in a long time. So this storyline was really good. Love the characters. These are two of my favorite authors. So having them write together was really excellent. Looking forward to reading more. Definitely a must read.
Wow!!! 😍 This book really surprised me, the first chapters were slow but I kept reading and I'm so glad I did because this story is amazing!!! 🤓... Beck and the guys are so wonderful characters, the world building and story line so captivating... I couldn't believe the book was over and that it ended that way 😩... I need more NOW!!!... Highly recommend this book!!! ❤️
So, I must be quite clear about this: Time Travel tropes are not my favourite thing. They are either too fantastical, too scientifically detailed or they make zero sense at all. I was a tad apprehensive and I will admit to having some trouble getting into this book from the beginning. It wasn’t an immediate grabber, for various reasons (you’ll make your own call on this), but I am very glad that I persevered.
Our FMC was not immediately… likable isn’t the right word… maybe immediately… understandable or… relatable. There wasn’t that immediate click with her and initially, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to connect with her at all. She’s got some personal stuff going on and there’s a bit of alluding to it but not a clear-cut picture of what’s gotten her to this point. And now, I’m actually looking forward to learning more about her and her backstory, as well as the stories of our Male Characters who were all immediately firm favourites for me.
My favourite multi-character stories are always the ones where friends become family – a family of choice. This book clearly gives us a sad yet sweet story of 4 men who need each other and have built a support system of care and protection of each other, but who are also aware that something is missing is in the difference between surviving and living.
There are so many dynamics that have been introduced, aside from the group dynamics and the individual growth, and these extra aspects need to be explored further over the rest of this series. I’m so eager to read all of it and to become more intimately acquainted with all these characters.
It has my favourite genres of time travel and reverse harem romance.
We have our heroine Rebecca who prefers Beck. I wouldn’t say she’s sort of a rebel from her dad but circumstances made her that way especially learning the truth about her mother’s disappearance. Guess what she does, taking a break from university and staying with her aunt. Of course, she hanging with her friend who apparently got some drugs which in turn let her time travel to the past.
There she meets the guys. Jasper, Everett, Ellis and Alex. It took her a while for her to accept her current predicament especially when she was introduced to the other world. They all sort of have a mutual attraction to one another but towards the end she was brought back to her own time.
At first she thought it wasn’t real or more to the point she couldn’t explain it to anyone because they would think her crazy but she was able to find proof that the guys existed but learned something horrific. The ending was most definitely a cliffhanger with her wanting to go back to the guys.
I’m quite curious about her mother and if they are sort of connected to the author’s previous works due to the world building.
I can’t wait for the next book and I’m wondering if there is more to Beck.
Chasing Time: A Reverse Harem Time Travel Romance (Her Immortal Legacy Book 1) by Elena Lawson Katie May 4 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
******** May Contain Some Spoilers ********
I will try my absolute best to keep spoilers to a minimum or completely out of my review. Sometimes it can be hard to do so.
I'm going to be completely honest, I wasn't into the book through the first few chapters. I was thinking time travel mixed with Phantom of the Opera, not gonna work together. I was so WRONG. There is no Phantom of the Opera theme anywhere in this story. The time travel is pretty interesting concept. Elena and Katie rocked this storyline! A very unhappy 😡 woman running from her life. She goes out with a friend and ends up in the 1880's. Talk about a shock! Jasper is the man that finds Beck in the Thames. Jasper has half his face covered by a metal mask. (That's why I was thinking Phantom of the Opera). Then we have Ellis, a sweet kind man who is mute. Alex is a scot with a fiery personality. Everett, oh Everett, he is an a** on the outside and has a monster hiding in the inside. Beck finds out about supernaturals. Then she is ripped back to the present day. She has to find a way back to them. Especially after she finds a news article about them dated in the 1880's. Ends in a cliffhanger, but still worth reading! 💜💜💜
•••••• I highly recommend this book/series! ••••••
