Life will get better, so they say. Through the spring and winter of 1923, May Rose says it too, as losses, scandals, and threats affect people she cares about. Though she’s blessed with the ingenuity and courage of her husband, friends, and family, she knows something important is missing in her own life, something she must find. A Promise of Mondays is the tenth book in the Mountain Women Series, bringing to life the struggles, triumphs, friendships and loves of women in a small West Virginia town in the early 1900s.
I’ve been lucky. Years ago, I wanted to live on a farm, and my husband said “Let’s do it.” When personal computers were introduced, I wanted to know about them and have one, and lucky me, the school where I taught offered a course in Basic. When we bought our first computer, I discovered the writer’s best friend--word processing. (Before that, I could not write without crossing out most of a typewritten or handwritten page, and progress seemed impossible.) When I wanted to shift from teaching to writing, the first Macintosh computers came out, and I was lucky enough to offer, along with technical and business writing, the first “desktop publishing” in my county. And when finally I had the leisure to give a lot of time to a novel, my husband didn’t merely tolerate my commitment, he encouraged it.
I read all eleven books in this series...as quickly as I could. I loved everything about them. Great descriptive writing and well-developed characters that grew as the story progressed. The tenacity and strength of the mountain people came through with every hardship they endured. I felt like they were people I could have known growing up in the beauty that is West Virginia. I've lived away from there for several years but you never really leave. I'm happy to think the story will continue.
Roger and Ralphie. Roger is the oldest and just a lot of trouble. Theres strain robbery. Russell and Charlie discover who one of the men are. Russell remembered the mans face that hit him over the head and tied him up at Lucies. Theodores dog had seven pups Roger stole them and put rocks in the sack threw those poor pups in the river. Silvie and May Rose saved them all but two died.
