#Bookclub review My best friends and I read Dying on the Outside and Suffocating on The Inside. Actually, it was a pretty good book! The discussion we had been very interesting. We found ourselves talking about the book as if it was a soap opera. We really loved this book to the point during lunch we tried our best to read a chapter because we were eager to know what happened next. One thing I loved Dying on the inside is the quotes throughout the book. My favorite quote is I am not going to let fear be my leader, but since it was taken two times my by best friends in their review my next favorite quote is I am finding my way, because every single day, I am trying to find my way and find out who I am as a person. My favorite part in the book is when tacked her week of her depressing, but successful week. I loved the author's work, I read Teachers Just Don't Understand Bullying Hurts 1st edition, however, after we complete Unapologetic for my Flaws and All we are going to read Teacher 2nd edition with our siblings. I loved the author's work! I wish she would give a book signing if so I would be first in line.
In Dying on the inside and suffocating on the outside is a good book for tennagers when it comes to be anorexic. Being anorexic is a serous thing and it's really big for the author to stand up and write about it. What I also love what the author did was that he explain how you can solve the solution of being anorexic. Interesting book
Life is challenging. As the author says, life is like tossing a coin, it doesn't matter if it lands on heads or tails, life goes on. That is so true. As I learned a lot from these loving people who were once strangers, who are now family. You never know how a book or I should say, you never know how the words in a book can wake you up. We cried a lot of tears, laughed, smiled, and felt Skylar's pain because most of us if not all of us is a Skylar one way or another. This book will make you believe and know things get better day by day and step by step. I am not going to give the story away, but you know what I am going to say, I love the quote, "I am not going to let fear be my leader."
We just for finished reading Dying on the Inside and Suffocritng on the Outside is a MUST READ! Okay, first, I gotta say the author is a great writer, she made this book come to life. Each word was a vision, each page was a story and each chapter was inspiration. The book itself was motivational and made me think and know I can do anything I put my mind to. The storyline itself is a reality of what we as girls go through, however, we do not tell anyone because we think people will judge us, therefore, we keep our thoughts to ourselves. The book club we form was wonderfully amazing because most of us didn't know each other. It just so happen to be posted at a little coffee shop and people showed up on the day it started. Who would have known a lot of people would show up. The book brought a LOT of people together as we shared our journey as we talked about each chapter in the book, it touched on something in each of our lives. I just got over an eating disorder, however, I didn't have help. I helped myself because I didn't like the way I felt. Just right before reading this book I was going to starve myself again because I wasn't at peace with my body, but Skylar gave me the strength to love me and to accept me for my flaws and all. I felt like I was walking in Skylar's shoes. I didn't starve myself, because I want to live life because I know it has a lot to offer.
My child has an eating disorder as we are seeking help for her and she is healing at a steady process. She came across this book and asked would it be okay if I purchase it. I was iffy about it of the title, but my baby explained to me the title is the reason why she wanted to read the book because the title is exactly how she was feeling.
My baby really relates to Skylar in the book. We never understood my baby's reasons for starving or harming herself, but as we read the book together, we had a better understanding. This book helped my baby because she is seeking help and want to help herself.
My girls and I formed a book club and decided to read Dying On the inside and suffocating on the outside. This book will have you on your toes wondering what is going to happen next. I must admit, I read in advance because this book had me like okay what is going to happen next.
Skylar came along way from where she started. I loved your determination to fight off her demons and battles at the same time. I never thought her fear would have been what it was, I cannot imagine (I am not going to spoil the book). All I know is, I wouldn't know how to conquer the dreadful fear she had, but she worked through it.
Skylar support system is the best and I felt like I knew all of them and Skylar on a personal level. I was all into the book because I understand what Sky was going through. I too had an eating disorder (which I never told anyone), I still until this day struggle with my appearance. After reading this book, it made me realize who gives a care what others think and we shouldn't ever bring ourselves down to bring someone up.
This Coronavirus has been reading books here and there to keep me busy. I kidd you not when I say, this is a wonderful book! The title made me feel like this was going to be a pity party book, but the joke was on me. This was an inspirational self-filling book! Each chapter was better than before. I read this book within one day because I did not to put it down. I am going to read it again, because it was a good book! Skylar is a wonderful young lady, who had her share of tough love at the wrong time. We all need support like Skylar in our corner. Such a wonderful book!
Okay, my girls and I formed a book club and decided to check out this book. I must say, I am impressed and I really loved this book. I am not a fan of authors of whom I do not know, but I think the reading world should give this author a chance. I see I am the first one to write a review from my book club--Normally, I do not write reviews, but I had to write a review for Dying on the Inside and Suffocating on the Outside because it hit close to home. I use to 'pretend' just like Skylar that everything was okay. I hide my truth, lied and covered it up every chance I got. My parents didn't know the battles I was fighting. Until one day, like Skylar, I slipped up (I am not going to spoil the book) and that was one of the biggest mistakes I used to think I'd made. I had to get help and it wasn't an easy task. Just like Sky, I had my ups and downs, but I had to make a choice to live or die. I ready gravitate to this book because it speaks the real truth and struggles of someone with an eating disorder. I am going to read the author's other books because I really enjoyed. Well... I really loved this book. Many tears streamed down my eyes because I was once a Skylar.
My friends and I formed a book club and completed Dying on the inside and suffocating on the outside yesterday. It was a wonderful read. After reading this book I confessed to my friends and parents that I have an eating disorder. It is not as bad as Skylar's in the book, but I do not think there are no such thing as bad, worse or horrible disorder signs because it starts from somewhere. The author made her book come alive as I read each word I imaged the scene and was engaged to the point I was yearning to know what happened next. There were many things I loved about Skylar's story, but my best friends and I said we have to pick one thing out that we liked the most in the book. I loved the support Skylar had. I also loved her courage to stand up to her fears. I liked how she stood her ground against all odds. This is an inspiring book and I am going to read it again. I never heard of the author, but I think she is a great writer, as she writes about the reality of life what teenager go through on a daily basis. I do hope one day sooner than later she has a book signing if so I will be first in line. I really loved this book. It is a must-read.
I found this book in the Little Library near my home. I really enjoyed this book. It really speaks volume and brings forth the life of what a person goes through in regards to having an eating disorder. I am a survivor of having an eating disorder. It wasn't easy. but my parents helped me get through it. I felt so lost and alone. So many years I was fighting an uphill battle, but I made it through. Skylar's story is very relatable. It also shows not only females have eating disorders, but boys do as well. I really enjoyed this book. I wish I had this book when I was going through my multiple battles of survival.
My daughter read this book and I decided to read it since she couldn't put it down. I was wondering, is this book that good. I must say, yes, it is! I was a grown woman and I couldn't put down this teenage book. Ms. Skylar is a warrior. This young lady has been through the ringers and still comes out on top. This book is such an inspiration to all young women, and young men as well. I felt Skylar's pain, and as a mother, I wanted to give her a hug. I loved how the author talked about a sensitive topic that needs to be discussed. Wonderful read.
OMG! This book is sooooooo AMAZING! The book cover grabbed my attention at first glance. If you look real close at the book cover there are inspirational words. I love Sklay's sweater. I too am a Saggie!!
I finished Dying on the Inside and Suffocating on the Outside in one day! I was so intuned! This book is a page-turner! I was itching to know what happened next. I love Skylar and the author made the character come alive. As I was reading I could picture every single moment.
I too had an eating disorder, and I sometimes second guess my weight. I mean, the author touch bases on every situation I was going through. I am not going to get into details about the book, because I do not want to spoil it, but I must say, anyone who've had an eating disorder or going through an eating disorder should read Dying on the Inside and Suffocating on the Outside.
I love the quotes and the images in the book told my story and Skylar progress...
Oh wow! This is a heartfelt book. Skylar had a rough time and she came through it and was victorious. This book was like a movie. The author described everything in great detail. I loved how she showed all of the girl's struggles and strengths. The girls had a lot of support, but wasn't willing to accept it, but later on they learned to love themselves to want better for themselves. The story is an amazing story. We need more books that touch on eating disorders. The book cover is beautiful. I loved the words in the circle. They were inspiring.
I never thought I would read my story. As I read this book, I never thought someone would write my story better than me. I cried many tears reading this book, it made me a better person. I looked in the mirror and told myself I AM SOMEONDOY AND I LOVE ME!
Dying in the inside and suffocating on the outside have a strong meaning when it comes to being a fighter and having an uncontrollable disorder. I love how the author included details that would provide a good message.
Great book! I got Unapologetic for my Flaws and All along with this book for my friend as a gift and I had to write a review for both books! This book touched my heart in a different way because young girls can relate so much to this especially in today's generation. Girls are on social media wanting the body that models have or their favorite influencer and will doing anything to get it because that is what they think perfection is. Great insightful book! Recommend to all young, teenage, and of age females!
This book REALLY caught my eyes when I started reading the blurb. Reading the blurb persuaded me to read more. After reading Dying in the inside suffocating on the outside, I notice that other people go through the same situation that's accruing to the book. This book is really emotional and brings the emotional state out of readers. This is the best book I ever read because that was the first book that I found relatable to real-world problems.
An eating disorder is very serious. Many people do not take the time to acknowledge this topic. I am a counselor and it never amazes me how this topic is ignored. I read this book and I really enjoyed it. I purchased a copy for each and every last client. Very well written book.
Eating disorder is something that is upfront and personal that isn't seen, however, it is ignored. This book is amazing! I loved the entire book, but my favorite chapter is Cover-Up! Must Read!
#bookblub-19 My girls and I are writing reviews today about Charlena E. Jackson's books (well the ones we read so far). First, I want to say ALL of Charlena E. Jackson's books are very insightful, speak the truth, and about the reality of life! I think all young girls, teens, young adults, and college-age girls should read the books we are writing reviews for tonight. We read In Love with Blindfolds On first, and we loved it! Then we went down the line and read Dying on the Inside and Suffocating on the Outside (which was a wonderful read!), Unapologetic for my Flaws, and All 2nd (make sure you read the 2nd ed because it has more to give than the 1st edition, and the quotes in the 2nd ed are AMAZING!), A Woman's Love is Never Good Enough 2nd ed (make sure you read the 2nd edition!), and Dear Fathers of the Fatherless Children.
**Note we are in the process of reading I am Speaking Up but You're Not Listening 2nd edition, then Teachers Just Don't Understand Teachers Hurt 2nd ed (I know it's a kid's book but I cannot wait to read it!)
In Love with Blindfolds On: Was a FANTASTIC read! It kept me on the edge of my toes. I must say, I read ahead of my girls because I wanted to know what happened next! Ryder was on a roller coaster ride, and honey, you went through so much, she never had sweet dreams when it came to Tee. I love how the author speaks the reality of a domestic young violent relationship. She made this book come to LIFE!. This is a MUST-READ NOW! Too many young teenagers are falling down the rabbit hole of love.
Dying on the Inside and Suffocating on the Outside: Interesting read! I never read a book about a teen eating disorder. I use to be a teenager who had an eating disorder and I wish I had this book years ago. This book is profound and a MUST-READ for people who are facing and battling an eating disorder. Poor, Sklyer when through it, and it wasn't easy at all. However, she transformed slowly, but surely... I loved this book so much because it was my story!
Unapologetic for my Flaws and All 2nd ed- My, my, my, this book is for ALL girls and all ages because it is a POWERFUL read! It touched on all kinds of topics and issues teenagers go through, and I loved this book so much! I think ALL school (middle 8th graders- the high schoolers should be mandatory to read this book! It would help a LOT of girls learn how to speak their truth!
A Woman's Love is Never Good Enough 2nd ed: The author told many of her personal stories and it helped me to want to not make the same mistakes as she did, and it opened my eyes to see that not everyone is for me, It really helped me at a young age to know that I need to put myself first and it is okay to give myself self-love. I loved this book so much because the author was bold to talk about her life, but she wrote it in a way as if she was telling her readers to be cautious because regardless of what you do for others as a woman most of the time it will never be good enough! I love this book is my woman's bible!
Dear Father of the Fatherless Children: Helped me as a teenager without a father in my life. I was reading how I felt, and my heart desires. This book helped me to forgive and move on. I was very emotional reading this book. I loved every single chapter! A must-read for everyone without a father in their life. It would help you move on because life is meant to be lived!
If Charlena E. Jackson read her reviews I want you to know you saved my life in so many ways. I appreciate you.
Wow! The title and the book cover for In Love with Blindfolds On gained my attention. After I read the blurb I was hooked! I purchased this book on a rainy day, and I cuddle by the window and read the entire book in one day! The next day, I read Dying on The Inside and Suffocating on the Outside. I ordered Unapologetic for my Flaws and All 2nd edition, but I haven't got around to reading the entire book as of yet. If it is like the others I know I will not be disappointed, and so far it is a good read!. I think I am going to write a review for all of them in one post, that way, I can copy and paste each review.
In Love with Blindfolds On is a page-turner! I read this TWICE! I have never been in an abusive relationship, but it made me realized what I should look out for and how to be aware. Ryder was a fighter, but she yearned for love for the wrong person. She never wanted to listen, and I feel bad about what happened to her, but we all have to learn how to listen to the people who love us and who want what is best for us. She struggled, and she didn't have to. She suffered, and she kept going back. When we see the signs we should leave because it is not going to get better. It is best to leave. I can see this book becoming a movie. It should because it is reality.
Dying on the Inside and SUfforcating on the Outside was an excellent book as well! I read this book in TWO days and I am going to read it again! I had an eating disorder. I do not think people talk about eating disorders enough, as they should because it is a silent problem! This book is so good! I laughed and cried! I can see this book coming to the movies!
Unapologetic well, I haven't got into the book, but I read a few chapters here and there, and I loved it! I cheated lol, but I am going to start from the beginning and read it.
One thing I noticed about the author is that in ALL of her new and 2nd editions she has a quote before every chapter! I loved her quotes! I've written them down, and I pick a quote for the day to remember.
Oh, and she has TWO new books coming out, and I am going to buy them when they are released! She teased me/us and in each book, she gives us a sample chapter! Pretty clever and cool!
