In the dead of night, I receive a phone call that deals a devastating blow and derails my plans.
In a heartbeat, my dreams disintegrate. Lost and broken, I abandon my aspirations and cling to the stability offered by my boyfriend's proposal.
Three years later, I'm floundering in my marriage and filled with regrets I never expected. Vowing to fix my present reality, I develop a plan to reignite the passion that has been smothered by my husband's career and ambition.
But life doesn't always go according to plan. Just as hope for my marriage returns, I'm blindsided by four words that brutally remind me life can change in a...heartbeat.
This is a STANDALONE contemporary romance. Intended for readers 18+
Ali Pierce is a speech pathologist, turned storyteller, whose passion is creating stories that weave hope and love into everyday life. Ali lives in Illinois with her husband and three children. When not writing, Ali can be found shuttling children to and from school, trying to figure out the formula for a perfect Instagram feed, or buried face first in a book.
Ali Pierce is a fairly new author, and she took me by surprise. This is the second book I've read by her, it's also the second she has written and it won't be the last I read by her.
Jesus, the angst! does she bring the angst... Woah. Anyone that knows me, knows I love angst. I crave the stuff and this author loved throwing it in there. Hope surprised me. The first impression gave me the sense that she didn't really know who she was herself... But as the book progressed and she grew on me and she grew as a character. She became stronger, she set plans and goals and with all her might and determination and strength she grabbed them tightly... And that in itself? I was in awe of the author and how she portrayed this character. Just when I thought I knew where this plot was going. I was 100% sure I knew... But NOPE. Plot twists were thrown in and threw me off completely and damn it I loved it. I love when an author has me believing 100% one thing and throws a curveball to knock me on my ass... and It did. I put take my hat off to this author. Normally I can predict the unpredictable... Not in this case! So, Bravo, Ms. Parker.
If you love emotional reads, a read that'll grab your attention from the beginning and hold it till the end.. I highly recommend giving this authors books a chance. I was not disappointed!
This gal has already found her writing groove. Both this novel and her debut have the same style, the same creative flow whilst maintaining the differences between the characters and their histories. Ali absolutely knows how to intertwine life so perfectly. Tangling histories, overlapping character interactions over and over in the background seems to be somewhat her speciality.
Laced with devastation and finding your strength this story is emotional.
Part one focuses souly on the "devastation" and whilst there is love here too, it isn't the love of our Hero and Heroin. The time line here is a little confusing, but after reaching out to Ali, she has confirmed that it gets ironed out properly in part two.
Part two is a seven year time jump and where we experience the finding your strength part. Where Hope finally pulls herself together and moves forward with her life.
I absolutely loved how this story held no conflict, there were times when it could have gone in the complete opposite direction it did, but am I glad it didn't. The flow was just perfect and both Dr Roberts and Dr Anderson were 100% adorable, caring, loving and mature.
Ali definitely has a bright career ahead of her and I can't wait to read what comes next.
What an amazing book 📚. This book ripped me apart, put me back together and then ripped me apart again before making my heart so happy. There was a bit of everything in this book and plot twists galore. This is first book by this author but I certainly won’t be the last, she has so much talent flowing through her finger tips. The characters were so real and relatable. Hope was such an amazingly strong character and I loved reading every word of her story. I have to say when I was only half way through and Joe dies I was totally shocked as I thought they would sort things out and the second half would be his story. Then along comes Mitchell and I loved him straight away, his story was equally heartbreaking and he was such a strong character too, devoting everything to his daughter and still finding the time to support his ex wife with life time care. His story, along with Sedona was beautifully moving. I finished this book with a tear in my eye and goosebumps. I loved how the story came full circle, so beautifully and cleverly done. This book is the whole package.

Heartbeat is a romantic telling of having a second chance at life. The story mainly focuses through Hope’s journey to finding happiness. Wow, this book honestly made me speechless. This is Ali Pierce second novel, but my first to read. I will definitely be checking out her other one. Pierce has a fantastic storytelling that I haven’t seen in awhile in some of the angsty novels. The plot was original and very emotional. It had lots of warmth, twist that I didn't see coming, and showed how small the world can be. It’s a very realistic portrayal of how life can knock you down, after the fact an event takes place realizations are known. Something you might not recognized until you have to face it, and there are many in this book. This truly was a fantastic read. From the very first sentence I could not put it down. The characters in the story captured my heart and I was fully invested in them until the end. If you are looking for a new fresh read, check this one out, it might just be what you are looking for.
This was an eARC and the first time I’ve read a book by Ali Pierce
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Hope is the music of life. It can take you anywhere.” I just finished Heartbeat. It was a fantastic read! Just about the time I thought “predictable”, the rug was pulled out from under me. I especially loved the character Hope. Her strength and determination to achieve her goal was very inspirational. At one point I didn’t think I’d get my HEA but I’m not sure I would’ve been disappointed because of how strong Hope was after everything she endured. Great writing, Ms. Pierce!
I really like the story line. I was captured within the first few chapters and could not put it down. I loved the emotions, quick wit and fast pace of this story. I found myself cheering for the characters to succeed. If you like excitment, love & heartache with romance this is the book for you.
I was lucky enough to get a signed copy direct from the author, but OH MAN this book, y'all!
So first, let me say that I literally devoured this book in a single day. I stayed up till 5am just to find out what happens next in Hope's life. I will say I was a bit confused about whose perspective the prologue was in, but then the story got going and the way Ali interweaved all of these characters' lives and stories together was just freaking PHENOMENAL. It was neat when I figured out the first connection, like when you figure out the twist in a TV show right before it's revealed. But the connections that became crystal clear at the end were what truly impressed me. I loved the steaminess, I loved that there's no cheating, I loved how REAL Hope felt to me, and I really just LOVE the way this all came together.
Contemporary romance is not usually my preferred genre; I'm more of a contemporary urban fantasy or paranormal romance fan. But HEARTBEAT was absolutely phenomenal. It was like watching a much-loved RomCom, but in book form.
