A raven assassin will be her greatest ally, or her worst enemy.
Mika knew the Council of Paranormals would suspect her, which is why they assigned a raven to 'guard' her. But there is a 'we' behind the killer and she has no idea if that they are still out there, or worse, still on the island of Morgana waiting for the right opportunity to strike again.
With Malachi being distant, Ethan, Lucien, and Audrey have to work without her to follow the dangling strings, while Mika tries to win the assassin to her side. Will the raven help her unlock the secrets of her magic, or will he turn her in and be the end of everything she knows and loves?
This is a steamy reverse harem, academy romance and takes place in the Council of Paranormals universe.
I am part of Beta team for Emma Dean and I usually read the books before release. This series is an amazing continuation from book 2. We get to see a lot more of Mika's world and the world of Kenzie and her foxes. Mika's quest for answer continues and while she makes new friends and possible love interest she also keeps racking up on enemies. The books made me laughed out loud and at the same time had me crying. I love how Emma Dean transports you and in no time has you feeling everything from intense lust to fear. I love how the characters come together and how we still see a bit from our favorite characters and their happy endings.
Quick Info Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone Part of a Series?: Yes ---------------------------------- Meeting the Characters Mika Malachi Ethan Lucien Corbin Audrey ---------------------------------- What happens? Mika is being watched by the council, they're not convinced she wasn't behind the attempt to open the gate. Corbin is the raven shifter sent to watch over her and make sure she isn't up to anything. Shes dealing with her developing relationship with Ethan and Lucien but Malachi is acting strange and is avoiding her. Eventually she gets him to open up about why hes avoiding her and it turns out a secret society is hunting her and wants her to help them open the gate. Final thoughts This was really good. I didn't want to put it down. I do think its getting a litttle confusing with all the names. I'm struggling to piece them together and make out who is who. Aside from that I'm really enjoying this. Would I read again?: Yes Would I read this author again?: Yes Would I continue on with the series?: Yes
It wasn't horrible or anything, just boring. I honestly don't understand all the 5 star reviews, unless they are all plants. I mean, I'm stingy with 5 star reviews, so maybe it's me. I just felt like every opportunity for the relationships to have some dynamics, the author just wimped out. No ups and downs. No climaxes. Just, another guy gets meshed in. I mean, even with Malachi, she's like, "it's okay, I get it". Which is great, just boring. I originally thought Ryan might be a harem member, but looks less and less likely. I like Corbin, but some fireworks between their dislike and ultimate relationship would be nice. Instead, it's like every guy is, "huh, she's different. I love her now". I think I'll read Corbin's book before I decide whether to progress. We got a tiny bit more fleshing out of the other guys, but not much. The story picked up some, which is its only saving grace.
3.75 Stars, almost 4 but rounded up this time. The pace and tension have kicked up which keep me wanting to turn the pages. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
slightly better than okay. would I recommend? yes would I read again? no because it's nine part series. I think this is a pretty good the series. for the type of book that it is though.
in this one you get a lot more content and you do have another person coming into the group. although not everyone has been solidified in the group yet so you don't really know where that's going to fall. Aubrey as a friend does kind of take a backseat in the story she's around but not as much as the other books. the story is interesting what the hell seals and the characters in the other series are heavily in this series but in a pretty easy way although I do kind of wish I read them also because it would tie them into the series a little bit better but the flow is nice. I do think it's interesting about the group of witches that are trying to get into the seal and how they are trying to overthrow the situation. Malachi storyline is pretty interesting too in addition to Corbin I'll definitely be reading the next one.
timeline-wise the first three books are all within the first semester that she's at school which I think is technically the second semester of the year but I'm not 100% sure. But at the end of this book she is going home for 3 months for the summer. with Aubrey joining her. two of her guys are staying back at the school to do additional summer classes but she's going home to deal with stuff with her sister and the house since her grandmother had died.

Emma Dean, as an author, has a lot going for her. Her story series is "fresh" meaning that it is not a repeat of some other author. Her characters are interesting and well described. She is able to both inflect tension on the reader for the day to day trials as well as cause long term dismay at future events. I really like the story that she calls the "inverted harem," which means that multiple males surround and hover over the protagonist, a young woman who is a witch just discovering her inherited power(s). I am an old codger in his 80's and note two writing elements: (1) Sexual descriptions are infrequent but are informative rather than pornographic, and (2) the author somewhat frequently uses f-word and the s-word as parts of her character dialogue. The book series may be directed to a younger audience than myself. And I do not blame her for targeting her book series to the largest purchasing audience. All 9 books in this series are free to read for Kindle Unlimited and I am pondering whether to purchase them. Thank you, Ms. Dean for the interesting series and the time distraction for my age group.
Picking up from where the previous book left off, we find Mika being assigned a Raven to watch out for her. This is quite inconvenient for her, as Corbin is determined to stick by her side- which means she can’t do any investigating of her own fo fear he will snitch on her to the council.
Mika’s decision then, is to try and make him the Raven that all witches like her are supposed to have beside them.
A lot happens in this book, with more crossovers for the author’s other books in this world: not just the Chaos of Foxes series, but the Jessica James series too. It is helpful to have read those series, though not imperative.
Mika does manage a few steamy adventures in this book, though she is definitely hampered by her Raven. That being said, she does make some interesting discoveries.
It’s a fast paced tale, with a little steam, plenty of action and some adventures. As part of an ongoing story, it’s merely a step in the whole process though, and I can’t say too much about what happens since so much of it builds upon things that go before.
If you enjoy reverse harem academy fantasies, then this is an enjoyable and entertaining series.
I've always enjoyed Emma Dean's other books and I made it to book 3 of this but I'm going to DNF at 60%, Chapter 20. Mika's aloof nature and her vague non-responses are beginning to annoy me. I'm not really sure I understand all the games she's playing with her men, especially the raven, and the slow burn factor is a bit too extended for me. These relationships don't seem to be going anywhere and I don't feel the connection between them all. Also, the boys seem so insta-love with her and then do nothing, doesn't seem realistic.
The main reason I'm giving up is one of the characters told her he might be sacrificed. She reacts with a "ice in her veins" and needs to sit down. Then says nothing in response to what the poor guy just told her, and instead avoids it and asks a question about the next stage of their "mission". And all the characters just barrel on like it was nothing significant. But they supposedly have "feelings" for each other? That wouldn't be my reaction and I found a few of these examples that are just annoying now.
I have to say, I fell in love with this series. This is another great book. Emma Dean kept the story interesting, I just want to read MORE of it.
I fell in love with Corbin as well (I knew I would since he appeared in the very last chapter of Wicked Games, even if he was there for like one second). He's my favorite guy so far in the books. He's so intriguing, I'd like to know more about him. We can see Mika is becoming less and less afraid of her magic. She understands it's part of who she is and knows that even if it's dark magic, it's up to her to use it to do good or bad stuff with it. She also made me proud at her grandmother's funeral, standing up to her sister (whom I don't trust, obviously, she's shady). I hope after what happened with Malachai, things will get easier between him and Mika even if I understand it might take time. Also, Lucien and Mika are OFFICIAL, like finally! It makes me so happy!
Cannot wait to start the next book!

I am writing this review for books two and three because I read them back to back, and they're so short, I can't remember what happens when.
This picks up right where the previous book left off. There are a couple things about this installment (and installment 3) that aren't kosher.
I feel like the plot is not thoroughly mapped out, and we're not heading in a clear direction. I'm not sure how to describe this other than it feels like I'm zigzagging through a story. Maybe it's just the pacing. It's taken three books to get us through one semester. This school is five years long!
The author seems to be redefining the family dynamics that were outlined in book one. For example, in book one, Mika and her sister have a stilted relationship, but it's not jealous and petty. By book three there's zero trust between them.
I get sad often when I'm reading a really good series, and that I'm nearing the end of them. Therefore, I'm super happy that this has like, 9 books in it? But things aren't going slow, things aren't dragging along. They're moving at a perfect pace, flashing forward a few weeks if needed so that you aren't bored, but you also aren't missing anything. The relationships are moving at a realistic pace, they all have things going on in their own lives, with their own personalities, and it's a bit of a slow burn romance, but enough to keep me happy, and looking forward to more!
As always, I highly recommend these books, and am excited to continue my reading!
Gosh I love Mika. Her guys are great, not too much and not too cliche. A little cheesy stuff here and there but otherwise I’m all for them. I love the mild suspense of who’s getting added to her harem list. And the story of bad guys rolling in keeps things interesting.
I thought this book was more intense than the others. She’s getting more involved with the guys (or finding more defined boundaries not of her choice) and I love that her roommate didn’t just vanish off the face of the earth. I also love that she isn’t ALL about the guys. She’s got a life and destiny to figure out, too, and she doesn’t forget.
The setup of Hell and the witches/paranormal world is cool. Not as profound considering most things occur on campus but I think for the next book, we’ll maybe find out more world-wise.
5 stars for No Rest for The Wicked by Emma Dean. This is book three in the University of Morgana : Academy of Enchantments and Witchcraft series. “Witches were warriors once.” Now that Mika knows what she is , she has to decide what to do about it. She now has an assassin (the Raven) following her. Corbin might just be my favorite, I am really hoping he is meant to be her Raven. Be ready for a rollercoaster ride that you will not want to get off of. There is some steamy scenes in this book.( Finally right!) Mika is on a crazy ride and I can’t wait to read more about it.
Lord what a story. It is one that pulled me in until I reached the end. It was gripping and so very intriguing. It is packed full of suspense and mystery. It has so much action and drama. It is breathtakingly beautiful with all of its descriptions that allows you to feel like part of the story. The descriptions are radiant as this allows you to easily picture how the scenes play out. I am absolutely intrigued with this story and can’t wait to see where it leads.
No Rest for the wicked if amazing i really love the friendship between Mika and Audrey. i also love the interactions that Mika has with Kenzie and her Chaos. Mika has a Raven Assassin Corbin watching her because the Council doesnt believe that she is innocent in the murders happening around the University. Malachi is also staying away from her and acting strange, we find out why closer to the end though. The Mika flipping off Satan scene was funny as wiz and i just loved the scene with the demons. Mika also grows closer to her Fox and Storm Witch
The style of this series seems to be much different than Chaos of Foxes. Foxes had a great pace with an interesting storyline spread over three books.
This series, while actually much more appealing to me because I love academy romance, seems to be much more drawn out. The peak of the story typically hits around 84%-94% but the story line is very slow up until that point.
I’m ready for something with a faster pace in terms of plot and spice. (This is also a very, very, very slow burn.)
Look… I’ve blown through these books at an alarming rate. I’ve tossed caution to the wind, and sleep out the window. I have two children. And a highly energetic dog. I’m too old for this.
I digress. The things I wish for her and the Raven. Are never ending. I did find the connections made interesting in this installment. A bit jilted. Not all of them! Ah… it’s hard to explain without spoilers outright. Anywho, I’m happy to see our lead coming into herself and making connections.
Another great instalment in the Morganna series that just left me wanting more. I was hooked from the first page and finished this book in one sitting, leaving me desperate to the next book, fast paced and steamy, tI can't wait for the next book in the series, this has become one of my favourite series.
And the suspense keeps going. I am truly in love with this series. Can’t wait to read the next book. So exciting. As for normal reverse harem, the spice is at a level one, so if that is what you’re looking for, might not be the book for you, however paranormal aspect is top notch indefinitely a new spin on other books I have read. Definitely worth 55 star rating.
Things finally start to make sense, and I can't wait to read the next book! So, the Raven is one of my favorite characters in this also someone there at the end who was snarky.
Another great book in Mika’s series. Definitely read these in order, and consider reading Kenzie’s series first if you haven’t already as it takes place before this, and there are many crossovers.
This is the third book in the series and Mika now has to decide what she has to do with the knowledge with what she is. There are so many unanswered questions to this series and I can not wait to see what the answers are in the rest of the books. The narrator does a wonderful job
I love this series, such a cool witchy read with great character’s and interesting storyline. If you like the supernatural and RH then I would recommend this series.
I feel like this book was a little dull, and there were some scenes with details that had the same details repeated later in a different scene. It's like the author almost forgot it was already originally brought up.
No Rest for the Wicked, book three of the University of Morgana: Academy of Enchantments and Witchcraft series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Another excellent installment in the series. The morrigan background really makes this book worth the read.
Definitely love Corbin. Malachi really pissed me off and I think he needs to kick rocks. Audrey is still amazing as is Ethan. Lucien I just grew to like you even more. Not sure how to feel about Matthew. Can’t stand Claire. Super excited to start the next book.
