Shay Nicholls has lost everything, including three babies before they were even born. Abandoned by his alpha as a failure and believing he has no hope of a future, he can’t even take the final step he needs to end his miserable existence. Nick Carmichael has been trapped in a life he hates for far too long. When he finds the broken and desperate omega, he feels life has finally handed him the chance to become the mate he wants and eagerly steps up to care for the terrified young man. Shay doesn’t trust alphas, even ones with gentle hands and a kind smile, but when tragedy strikes and Nick gets hurt, Shay realizes he’s been very wrong. Unfortunately, it might just be too late.
Victoria writes about guys loving other guys in between dodging bullets, kidnappers, and serial killers. She enjoys putting them through hell to get their happy ever after—it’s a character flaw she embraces.
She also believes that family is who you choose, that dogs are often much wiser than human beings, and that we’re steadily destroying the world we live in.
And if people read more books, they'd be much happier.
I love it when Victoria Sue writes Mpreg stories. 😁 I know she’s known for urban fantasy and contemporary series but I first discovered her by reading her “Kingdom of Askara” series so Mpreg is my first love when it comes to her stories. ❤️😉 And when she started to write “His First” series, a non-shifter omegaverse series, I was over the moon. 😊 And I have enjoyed every book in the series. That being said, I’ve been waiting for a long time about Shay’s story. And you know what, it was worth the wait. 🥰
Shay has nothing worth living for in his life. Selling himself to an abusive arsehole alpha to help his adoptive mother, Shay has been living life as a shell for a long time. Being beaten, degraded and treated like a slave, Shay has lost all hopes, until one day he thought he was pregnant. But even that was ripped away from him when the clinic told him that he’s not pregnant. Now he’s on a bridge, ready to jump and end his life. And then Nick came rescuing him like a Prince Charming. Nick has always loathed the boundaries that are put up on omegas and has dedicated to his life helping them. But he’s also trapped in a job he doesn’t love just so he could help the omegas in need without any charges. Shay is everything Nick wants in an omega. And he thinks he’s already half in love with the timid and untrusting omega. Now he just needs to convince Shay that they are perfect for each other.
So well-written and quite angsty. 😭 Shay’s traumas run deep and he definitely has an issue with trusting people. He knows Nick is kind and good to him but can’t accept the fact that Nick wants nothing in return from him except his love. Nick is the perfect hero, kind, loving, understanding and sexy. ❤️ It took a tragic accident for Shay to finally see Nick is his perfect mate and everything might be too late. But I’m really happy that they were finally able to over everything and had an amazing HEA. 🥰 Also loved the fact that we got the previous MCs from the earlier books in the series. Shay deserves a BFF. 😉 Overall, it was a very satisfying read and I already can’t wait for next book in the series. ☺️
4.25 you are my first and last kiss stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
I was really looking forward to Shay's story. I love a good hurt-comfort book. Especially where one of the mc's is rescued by the other and given the life they deserved. This definitely fed my need for that. However, I found myself growing annoyed with Shay. He was so wishy-washy and pushed Nick away so many times. I had to keep telling myself it really only covers just a few weeks but when I find such a good mc like Nick who deserves to be loved as well, it gets on my nerves with a lot of push-pull. But I am loving these stories. They are truly heart breaking at times. But love prevails and these guys get the love they deserve. ❤️
I do love this series from Victoria Sue, they're just no nonscience sweet reads with a hint of steam enough to stop them being overly cute and a subtle nod to equality and political expression in the background.
I loved Nick, the alpha who was so desperate to help out his omega carer in book one, and the instant connection he had with Shay, who was abused and hiding from his contracted mate in book two. The world building here is different from the norm for an omegaverse and I think it adds a lot of depth to what goes on between alphas and omegas.
Shay is systematically abused by his mated alpha. With constantly a bodyguard around he can’t escape. After another miscarriage Shay is devastated and thinks he will never have a child of his own. Devin thinks Shay is lying he is angry and leaves him to let him walk a long way home. Shay stands under a bridge looking down in the deep. He doesn’t have the courage to jump. When Nick drives by he saves him and takes him to his vacation at Jonathan and Lori’s house who just got three babies. Shay doesn’t trust any alpha, only Nick seems to get thrones wall. Nick has feelings for Shay and Shay is too scared.
A story about a hurt omega, a considered alpha. Not too heavy, just enough developed and enjoyable. Around the carefully blooming friendship, there is a versatile story. A busy safe family with a lot of members. There are opportunities to start new jobs, buy new houses, leaving old habits and room to make mistakes. There is justice thank goodness. I just love me some hurt omega and an alpha who isn’t perfect but in a way he is. I loved all the kind friends and family who gave space and freedom, I loved it there was hope and a future, I loved this smoothly written story! I read it in one sit.
I really liked Victoria Sue, but this series doesn’t really do it for me.
I don’t like this world where omegas have no say and are forced to give up their babies if they have no alpha.
I could understand that Shay had a problem with accepting Nick as a mate since he was his only option if he wanted to keep his baby.
I know they fell in love before the actual mating, but it didn’t feel all that romantic to me. I mean, Shay wasn’t in a position to reject Nick, even though he did try at first. It took some of the romantic swoony feelings I love in my romance books away from the story.
Sweet like all the stories in the series, with the same kind of insta-love. I don't know why I keep coming back to this series, as there seems to be something missing from all of them (character development maybe?), but they're addictive like crack.
I liked it better than the 2nd book anyway, and those two are cute together. It's nice enough for a few relaxing hours, but I can't see myself rereading it in the future.
I enjoyed the alpha. He was a all round good guy. I was disappointed our omega never grew a pair. I didn’t totally understand the way the couple+omega worked. I was all in the first 73% of the story. The last 27% was a bummer because omega never honestly got stronger. He almost felt like a stereotype of a weak woman. Ugh! Will I revisit? Maybe but no rush.
Shay is mated to abusive Alpha, Devin. After Shay discovers he is pregnant he refuses his mate stating he's worried about harming the baby after having had previous miscarriages. When Devin takes him to the hospital to be sure the tests show he isn't pregnant. On the way home Devin kicks him out of the car and tells him to walk home. That is when he is found by Alpha Nick.
Nick has met Shay before and Shay has haunted his thoughts ever since. When he discovers Shay was beaten he takes him to his Doctor friend, Jonathan, to get checked out. Jonathan and his mate Lorne take Shay in. Where Nick gets to know him better.
The story is very high with sadness and angst, but has a great HEA. I loved Shay and Nick. The book is in both MC's POV. This book is definitely in my reread pile.
I enjoy this series. I do hate that the characters in the stories seem to be in the minority for treating omegas with any sort of respect. I remember Shay from the last book and how scared he was when we met him and was glad that he was finally able to get away from that horrible alpha and, what a surprise, he has some sort of medical anomaly. Nick really is sweet and it’s all thanks to the omega who raised him and his dead mother because his dad and stepmom are jerks and I thought that in the last book when they dismissed the omega. I was glad they were able to work things out, lots of not communicating but that seems to be the status quo for this series and is expected at this point.
I received an ARC of this book and am giving an honest review.
A sweet read. Shay, who is abused and has lost so much, learns to love and trust again. Nick is a good alpha in his caring for this young omega. This story had angst, romance, drama and an HEA. A good read!
This book dealt with a lot of tough issues for me. To be so abused and unappreciated that you are contemplating suicide, that was a tough pill to swallow. Fortunately along comes an alpha who is looking for someone to love, and care for. Yes it takes a while for the trust be built and there are communication issues, but this book pulled plenty of heart strings. Make sure you are in YOUR right head space when you read this book. I loved the HEA.
Reread again, this time I didn't get into this as much as the second book in the series. Some of the characters' reactions didn't feel all that plausible to me. Still all you would expect from this kind of story. -- Reread, nothing to add that I didn't already mention in my previous review or those for the other books in this series. ----- I quite enjoyed this. This book is strong on the hurt/comfort which is a guilty pleasure of mine ;) I liked the characters and their internal conflicts, but I do think this book might be a tad short to resolve all that baggage. This goes for most plot elements really - I would have prefered Shay's former alpha Devin as well as the issues with Nick's job and his dad to be developed more constantly than just randomly popping up out of nowhere. So mostly this was too short and over too quick when I really wanted more. Always love the writing style!
Omg I loved this book!!! we met Shay and Nicky in the previous books... finally they had their own story... Shay don't see any out for the abusive relationship he has with his alpha... when he reaches rock bottom, that's when Nicky find him and bring him home... Nicky is the best chance Shay has for a future... Shay is all that Nicky wants... and Nicky is the dream alpha that Shay needs to feel complete, safe... happy
Dnf 50%. This was all over the place, I couldn’t keep up. It would have been better if the author managed to part with the previous books’ couples and focus on Shay and Nick. This was a mess. If I wanted to read about Lorne and Johnathan I would have picked up their book instead. This isn’t a standalone, unless you’re willing to overlook the shit-ton of characters and pertinent events that happened in previous books. Also, the world building didn’t make sense, and not just because I should have probably read the first books, no, it was explained in this book too, it just didn’t make sense. In omegaverses, omegas have uteri, so, like, why did the author feel the need to come up with a world war that killed 3/4 of humanity, resulted in a world with very few fertile females that compelled some mad geneticist to implant a pouch in males that (I shit you not) BECAME A HERITABLE ORGAN, and thus omegas were created. Like, why????? Just go with the uteri and save us reading about ridiculous pseudoscience.
Also, wouldn’t it make sense that omegas SO NEEDED AND WANTED would be treated like Gods? Nope, no, sir. The predominant alphas are also the dominant gender.
Omega Shay Nicholls lost everything including three babies before they were born. His alpha has abandoned him as a failure and when he had no hope of a future he can't even take the last step and end it all. Alpha lawyer Nick Carmichael has been trapped in a job he hates for too long. When he finds the broken and desperate omega he feels that life has given him a chance to be the mate he wants and eagerly steps up to care for the terrified man. Shay doesn’t trust alphas, even ones with gentle hands and a kind smile, but when tragedy strikes and Nick gets hurt, Shay realizes he’s been very wrong. Unfortunately, it might just be too late.
I enjoyed this story which was able to make me feel all of the emotions that Shay and Nick were going through in this rollercoaster of a story. I felt desperately sorry for Shay although at times he became quite annoying in his refusal to accept that Nick was trying to help him. Shay's old alpha was a nasty piece of work which was proven later in the story. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content and set in the omegaverse with mpreg.
Liked this one better than book two, although it was really nice to see Lorne and Jonathan's story continue in this one. Nicholas, alpha lawyer, hates his job. Shay, a pregnant Omega is on the run from his abusive alpha. When Nick finds Shay and takes him home start bonding. Of course there is angst. Neither man can just accept the other without turning it into some big drama.
KU, omegaverse, book in series, PTSD, lawyer, mpreg, alpha Omega
This story is Nicholas and Shay who were in the last book. Nicholas is a good character, you can see how patient he is. Shay is the abused omega from the last book. Things have been difficult for him—his alpha treats him like crap. This story shows how Shay goes from being so scared that he can’t go outside to being a parent and partner. I like that the story doesn’t gloss over the work it took for him to heal.
Cute story but there were a lot of repetitive or opposite things that went on. Example, Nick telling Shay about relocating and needing a job first happened twice. Also, they said they tried to find out what the baby's sex was but it wasn't in the right position but at the end theysaid they didn't want to know. I'm sure there are other examples as I feel like it happened more then twice but I can't remember off the top of my head. Either way cute read.
This is the second series I have read by this author. The writing style is very good and I like the characters and the happily ever after is a must, for me. The dystopian world, the male omegas, male pregnancy with no rights is a challenge for me. However, I want the underdog to win and that keeps me reading.
Not satisfied with the kind of ending the author gave. It'a like... that's it? Seemeed kinda rushed when the whole story has a great premise. An epilogue, or even another chapter, would've been perfect.
Well written story and well developed characters. I love this whole series! You get the best experience if you read them in the correct order. This is because people from past books show up in all the books. Loved it!!
I love these sweet stories the alphas are strong sexy & soft as a teddy bear!!!!! You will feel like you are living right there with them & Nana is a hoot!!!! Thank you - Lori
