Rate this book
A heartbroken ghost searches in vain for her baby. Pekin Dewlap and her best friends Scout and Amber are hired to help her spirit go into the light by the kindhearted homeowners who’ve grown fond of the crying ghost. The teens move into the house while their clients are on a cruise, and their first order of business is to find out the ghost’s identity. A neighbor is able to provide the name of the house’s last owner, and the story of how his wife died in childbirth. Now, armed with the ghost’s name, along with those of her husband and baby daughter, it’s time to set the ghost free.

However, it isn’t as easy as the kids expect. First, Lily the ghost doesn’t seem to be aware of their presence, and when she finally “sees” them, she becomes angry and destructive. The Ghosties track down Lily’s husband and daughter to ask for their help, but much to their surprise, their invitation is met with hostility. The father has secrets of his own that he must protect.

If Pekin and her friends can’t convince the father to help them, they may never be able to set Lily free, and sent her into the light.

Pam started writing later in life when an author friend challenged her to create a book from his story idea. Being a never-say-never person, she met the challenge and managed to finish an entire novel, much to her surprise. Since that beginning, she's written several books, in several genres. Romance, middle grade and paranormal comprise most of her work. Pam has spent over forty years working as a legal secretary at a law firm in Orange County, California. Aside from writing, she likes to follow the stock market, buying, selling and trading stocks and options. Maybe in sharp contrast to that (or perhaps it's related), she loves Las Vegas where she can spend many happy hours at the Pai Gow tables. She shares a condo with her My Cat From Hell TV star, Allie, who manages to exude just enough affection to make her scary feral ways tolerable.

A smart, funny, engaging story that appeals to the young and young at heart. I loved following Pekin and her crew as she tried to "bust" this sad, sad ghost. Looking forward to the next installment of this well-written series.

I got a free advance readers' copy in exchange for my honest review. Thanks Acorn Publishing!
In The Ghost Of Firefly Lane, we continue reading about the adventures of Pekin Dewlap and her best friends / coworkers, Amber and Scout. At the end of the first book, they got a new client. The Dwyers have hired them to get rid of a female ghost who constantly cries as she searches for her baby. The kids come up with a plan to stay in the house while the couple goes on a week-long cruise. During their stay, they learn the ghost's name, Lily, and find out that she died in childbirth. They hunt down Lily's husband, Ron, and daughter, Violet, who are extremely hostile towards them much to their surprise. Ron needs to come clean to Violet before they can ever begin to help Lily move on.
As with the first book, there is an easy camaraderie between the three friends. This was important when dealing with Lily's haunting. Scout and Pekin are now learning the ins and outs of becoming a couple after being besties for so long. As you can imagine, there is a bit of awkwardness but with Amber around to help with the transition, things seem to be going okay.
The secret that Lily's husband was hiding seemed to be a bit ridiculous. While I understand that he was in mourning, it seemed like quite a drastic step. Amber's reaction to it was also a bit melodramatic considering it had not personally happened to her. However, teenage girls can be a bit dramatic so maybe it was normal.
What I liked in particular was the example of a teenage relationship being portrayed by Scout and Pekin. They are not only a couple, they are best friends. At one point in the book, Scout became angry with Pekin for doing something dangerous. What I liked was that even though he was not in agreement and scared for her safety, he was mature enough to understand it was necessary. Good relationship advice for teens today. As I said in the review of the first book of this series, The Haunting Of Elmwood Manor, this is a great read for teens and young adults.
Suitable audience: This is a book aimed at teenagers. There are some themes within this book that are too adult for younger children. Young adults may also enjoy this. Older adults may find this book a bit childish.
Recurrent themes: Ghosts. Haunted houses. Young love. Teenage drama
Violence: None
Sexual Content: Kissing
Profanity: None
Religious Themes: The kids learn prayers to help with their ghostbusting business
Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: None

I started this book hoping that the issues present in Book #1 would have been improved upon (e.g. the voice of the characters seeming middle-grade when they are in high school, their 'flatness', telling rather than showing, and superfluous scenes that add little to the plot, etc.).

However, it ended up being more of the same. And despite the lure of the 'mystery', it did not manage to draw me in.

Ultimately, I did not finish this book, and had to DNF it at 40% through.

I love this series, but nothing was fixed. I mean Pekín was mean, and so was Amber! I mean they are kinda mean, and Pekín is pushy, and I like the Pekín-Scout relationship, but I’m done with them fighting, it was all in the first book, and second, and even the third! I mean can they at least be nicer?

But considering I rated this 5 stars and I’m starving for the next book, this book is has 5 more times good things then issues, but, I mean they have to be nicer to each other.

Pamela McCord continues the adventures of Pekin Dewlap and her friends, Scout and Amber, from their first mystery, The Haunting of Elmwood Manor. These are standalone stories, but the author cleverly gives glimpses back at the previous tale as “The Ghosties” use their experience for this new case.

In this mystery, the three teens are hired by Mr. and Mrs. Dwyer to rid their house of a wailing woman ghost, who is looking for her lost baby. The first order of business is to discover who she is. Then, using Facebook, the Ghosties track down the home’s former owner and his grown daughter, only to find that they are not at all anxious to help!

When the three try to connect with the ghost, they are met with anger and near violence. But they remain undaunted, bringing in an interesting character named Mildew, a medium, to help in a dangerous experiment. Key to solving their case is getting the former owner and his daughter to return to the house. Can they do it? What will it take?

Kids aged nine to twelve will be enthralled by this case and trio of Ghosties. And with plenty of spooky occurrences, readers will keep turning pages, hoping that Ms. McCord delivers Book 3 soon.

The Lovable "Ghosties" are back!

The second book in the Pekin Dewlap Mystery series is wholesome and fun. Not as much action as in the first book, but the banter between Pekin and her friends Amber and Scout is just as adorable. In this book, the trio have a new paranormal mystery to solve with the help of ghost whisperer Mildew and some assistance from the other side. This series is a breath of fresh air for the teen paranormal genre, as we see teens actually acting like teens. The book is fast paced and witty, and is filled with theoretical paranormal discussion and a new slew of skeptics to be charmed by the investigative trio. This mystery isn't nearly as terrifying or suspenseful as in book one, but the more lighthearted storyline tugged at my heartstrings. I'm looking forward to where Pamela McCord takes these characters next. Straightforward ghostly storytelling and the innocence of the main characters really make this series stand out. Three stars.

The holiday season is upon us and this book appears just in time for the shopping that your kids and grandkids need. If they've been good, they'll be delighted with the adventure tale with kids as heroes who dabble in the hereafter. While there's mild fright, as befits the topic, there's also a touch of young love as well as abiding friendship.

If your kids and/or grandkids have been naughtier than you appreciated, the trio of 'Ghost Buster' pals model extraordinary kindness, tenacity, and problem-solving skills. Their teamwork is admirable and each of the young teen characters would be great role models for your youngsters. I highly recommend this book.
