Mandira Bedi is a fitness icon. But behind the six-pack is also a snotty, complaining, can't-get-out-of-bed-today girl who, in her own way, is still searching for true happiness. Not conditional, materialistic, transactional happiness, but just happiness. So has she cracked it yet? Mandira says 'No'. But she genuinely believes that she's headed in the right direction. In her own chaotic way, she seems to have discovered some kind of non-scientific, non-spiritual and as-yet-non-existent formula for finding peace in everything. Just being happy-for no reason. This book is about that.
Happy for no reason is the memoir of Mandira Bedi, a woman who is synonymous with fitness today. The book underlines her struggle with the odds, coming to terms with reality, and then her love for fitness. Although I am not a fan of celebrities and have never been excited about their lives, this one got me some comfort. It was happy knowing the mundane and ordinary life of a celebrity. They too are normal humans who have to deal with things on a regular basis.
Mandira stresses the concept of self-love and emphasizes the relationship one has with its self. As she says, "Loving yourself is not vanity, it's sanity." Her focus on personal well-being provided some key takeaways from the book. She does explain how being in limelight brings its own set of challenges and how having a supportive family helps a woman in her growth. What struck me was her brutal honesty in admitting her flaws and acknowledging the different significant incidents of her life. This made this fairly easy and ordinary book different for me.
While 'should' does not allow one to start something for fear of failure, 'could' allows one to appreciate and participate in the humanness of one's being.
I loved the writing so yes, points to the author who penned it down. The book comprises several anecdotes and quotes which aid in putting out Mandira's thoughts clearly. I'd recommend this book who want to start reading books. This one would both engage you and inspire you :)
FIRSTLY, I want to say that I picked up this book just because the title, “Happy For No Reason” attracts me to the soul. This is the memoir of Mandira Bedi. After reading this book, now I can say finally! finally! this is what every woman lacked in their life.
This is true,” The ingredients for absolute Happiness in life.”
Happy For No Reason by Mandira Bedi is the book which is the mirror of reflection about her journey, how she became a fitness icon, it’s about her struggles, her way of dealing with those struggles in her life.
This book is a bunch of positivity in all the ups and downs of life. This is not just a biography but it’s self-help book too. It is divided into 8 different parts which cover most of the common insecurities of a girl like pregnancy, failure, different societies norms (“what will people think?”), depression after post-pregnancy for career.
Each chapter starts with some positive quote by great personalities. I loved the way she elucidated about her temper and how her husband supported her in all ways. I loved the motivation she spread through this book including the 2 chapters named as,” It’s never too late.” It’s never too late to start anything in life. She included numerous examples in the world we live in, where folk have attained “Greatness” even after a late start. I loved the way she described her never-too-late-moment is her motherhood at her thirty-eight. For this, she said that it’s pretty late, especially by Indian Standards, or by modern biological standards, where there seems to be an unspoken rule that one cannot or should not try and make babies after forty. It is incredible how her husband supported in her ups and downs and how he motivates her in all her good and bad days. The way because of her husband motivates she never give up on anything. Some of the best roles in her acting career come in her forties. At an age when people who live in the spotlight consider retirement. But she never gives up and rest is the history.
Through the failure, she reminds herself that, it was not going to end for me. It was only going to end for me when I decided to end it. I enjoyed the four affirmation given by her which she included in her prayers.
1. HO’OPONOPONO:
-Through this, she means Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness.
-Through this one more thing she actually wants us to learn is do what you love to do, unconditionally. Just let go the past and forgive the people and say ‘I love you.’
-To elaborate this she said-please never hold back from expressing your love freely. Say ‘I love you’ to the people, you care for as often as possible. And mean it when you say it. Let them know. It’s a magical thing. When we express our love, we really generate positivity and kindness and humbleness. Love breeds love. And the world right now needs a whole lotta love in this worst phrase of our life going on.
2. I how to receive with gratitude, love and grace:
-With this, she guides us that believe in giving and someday you will receive it in abundance. And learn to receive and when you receive feel into your heart and give thanks. And receive with gratitude, love and grace.
3. I’m worthy. I’m capable. I’m loved:
- Through this affirmation she tries to say is that never forget your worth. Never give up. Prove yourself from the place where you feel you are not good enough.
4. I’m loveable the way I am. I’m good enough for myself. I’m good at what I do.
- Always keep reminding yourself that, you are worthy. You are a good person. You are the loyal friend one should have. Love yourself. If you can’t love yourself then how can you start giving that love to others?
The most attractive chapters and my favourites are,” EXPECT NOTHING, ACCEPT EVERYTHING”,” SAILING THE PARTNERSHIP”, and “ LET GO. LET GOD.”
These are the most impressive chapters for me because they are actually based on reality. I loved the quote given by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW and according to me this is the best quote to explain the life: ‘For, after all, the best thing one can do when it is raining is to let it rain.’
Great expectations usually lead to great disappointments.
I enjoyed the way she explained about her relationship with her husband and how he always stands by her side. The support, the push, the belief, all of it unconditionally showered by her husband makes her self confidence all time, self-motivated all time.
The way she elucidates the definition of relationship is phenomenal. In agreement with Mandira Bedi,” Relationship means something complete, finished, closed. Love is never a relationship; love is relating. It is always a river, flowing, unending. Love knows no full stop; the honeymoon begins but never ends. It is not like a novel that starts at a certain point and ends at a certain point. It is an ongoing phenomenon. Lovers end, love continues. It is a continuum. It is a verb, not a noun.”
This book boosts the positivity to the bottom of my heart that be real. Don’t think what will people think about? Always focus on feeling good from the inner core of your heart. Because looking good and feeling good is totally different from each other.
Another chapter which I appreciate is,” LET GO LET GOD.” The bottom line for this title is,” Let come what comes let go what goes. See what remains.”- RAMANA MAHARSHI.
Letting go is not about getting rid of something. It is simply about letting be.
Always be grateful for what you have when you are feeling gratitude, you can’t feel unhappy.
In this era of selfishness, it is difficult to find two types of people one who do kindness to others and second who feel grateful for the kindness done on them. So when you find these two treasure them.
This book makes me realized how grateful I am for my life. I’m grateful for the belief I have in myself, this makes me think that I can move the mountains.
For me, this book worked as a healing dose coming out of problems I am facing for a long time.
This book proved as a gem for me. I am glad I read this book. This is very truly said,” Don’t judge the book by the cover.” It was treated to know the motivation behind her all decision.
Her journey to the current position as a fitness influencer after lots of struggle and failures she faced, but she never gives up and gracefully with the support her husband did is amazing.
Actual Rating - 3.4/5 • | Book Review | Happy For No Reason. • I've only recently begun reading memoirs and to my pleasant surprise, I realised that I enjoy them thoroughly. Happy For No Reason is Mandira Bedi's debut book in which she has bared it all. Right from the beginning, she talks about her insecurities that haunt her ever so often, her battles with anger and how she tackled them over a period of time. Being a star comes with its own set of worries for every action of theirs is scrutinized by the media. Her journey to stardom was unexpected and once she got there, she talks about how it took effort to handle all the attention. Being famous isn't easy and through this book, she tells us why. • This book is fairly simple, written in a manner that makes it easy for the readers to enjoy it. While she wanted to work in advertising, she was surprisingly chosen to play the lead role in the famous Indian telivision show called Shanti. But after finding her work too monotonous, she fell into an uncomfortable slump and decided to change her career direction. Her love and passion for cricket helped her host various cricket tournaments for about ten years. Her face became immensely famous and fans began recognising her everytime she stepped out. While her work life thrived, she admits that her issues with anger were an all time high. She tries therapy and hypnotherapy to overcome many difficult situations that tested her capabilities. But one thing that Mandira never stopped doing was to motivate herself every single day. • Mandira and fitness go hand-in-hand. Her journey to being fit began when she entered fear factor and later, Khatron ki khiladi. As she talks about her pregnancy, she is convinced that it was fitness that helped her have a normal delivery in her late thirties. She stresses on the importance of having a supportive family who helped her pursue her dreams. To my amusement she has included her entire fitness regime in the last chapter along with few of her favourite recipes. Throughout the book, there are folktales and quotes by great men to explain her point of view in a simple way. • Happy For No Reason delivers the actor's message in a precise manner and it's comforting to know how celebrities are no different than the ordinary people. She's brutally honest in putting forth her thoughts about many things which is important when it comes to shaping a memoir effectively. Although I enjoyed the book, I couldn't help but find most of it very repetitive. If you're looking for a simple and hassle-free book, then I'd recommend you to read this.
Happy for no reason by Mandira Bedi is about her journey, how she became a fitness icon, from Cricket to known face in Television, it's about her struggles, her way of dealing with those struggles and how she found peace in being Happy for no reason. This book talks about her way of dealing with struggles, her insecurities and her issues with anger. The problems, difficulties that shaped her life and her as a person. From self-love to a supportive family, from struggles of being a well-known face to can't get out of bed today girl, this book takes us to the life of a well-known television face. I loved the way the book is narrated, in a friendly and simple way which will keep the reader hooked throughout. It feels like having one on one conversation with her. Well, it's a motivational read that will teach you to accept and embrace every situation, everything you have. It teaches one, self-love, gratitude and why one must not need a reason to be happy. From her gym routine to playlists, from diet to things that we must be happy for. This book has it all. With simple language and engaging writing style, she added a few stories too which keeps her going. My most favourite chapter from the book is 'Lens of Gratitude ' and let go. let God. . I loved the way she shared about her relationship with her family and her husband and when they decided to build a Rama house. It's a simple and interesting read, giving us a sneak peek of her life. This book is for all woman and for all those who are looking for an inspiring and easy read.
This book is excellent for beginners . People who are new to fitness and of course self love. She blends in the concept of self love with fitness very intelligently in a simple and straightforward language. She also touched her routines, spirituality and her own journey. I loved this book and do recommend it .
A good book. Loved they way she has gone about tabulating the practices or framework that has helped her sort life . The chapters on authenticity and let go stood out for me . The fitness chapters are detailed .
‘Happy For No Reason’ is Mandira Bedi’s account of her transformation from a hot-headed, ready-to-react individual, to a happy person. Thankfully for me, this was not an ‘I want to tell you how to live your life’ kinda book, but more of, ‘Hey, here’s what happened to me and this is how I dealt with it, and that’s how I transformed into this person I am’ kinda book.
While I read it, I could completely relate to the angry, ‘the-world-is-against-me’ person that she talked about. That has been me for a long time now. But somewhere down the line, because of certain things that happened in her life, she decided that she did not want to be that person any more. And that’s exactly the reason I read this book. At present, I am in exactly that phase of my life where I have realised I need a major attitude adjustment and I’m working hard towards being the person I want to be. This book has quite a few pointers to guide you in that direction, even though some of them aren’t that direct and you have to read between the lines to get that.
What touched me the most was the nature of the incidents she shared. They were extremely personal, raw, and so honest. Any one else would probably worry about being judged after sharing such details about how they reacted in certain situations. But that’s what makes you like her. She does not just talk about #keepingitreal, she actually DOES keep it real. She is unabashedly honest and upfront about the things she said and did, and delightfully humble about accepting her flaws.
She talks about her career, motherhood, family, balancing her work and her family, and life in general, and never once does it sound ‘preachy.’ The tone of the book is friendly, as if she’s directly talking to YOU and she weaves in heavy life-lessons without them feeling so.
And just as I read the chapter ‘Expect Nothing. Accept Everything,’ that basically talks about how everything happens for a reason, it took me only two days to realise how true it was.
In addition, the book also has a whole list of quick, tasty, healthy recipes you can make, a list of workouts you can do, and an awesome list of songs that are perfect for a workout.
The ONLY thing that I found I disagree with, was the post-partum weight loss bit. Mandira made it her personal mission to get back into shape at 6 months post-partum, and unlike many people, she did it in an extremely healthy manner, and that’s amazing. However, that one should be able to do it at the 6-month mark is a bit unrealistic to me. Sure, many women can and DO do it. But from personal experience, I know it is not always possible and for many women like me, it is not a priority and it’s OKAY if it isn’t.
To her credit, nowhere in the book does she say that everyone should do it. But she doesn’t say that it’s okay if you can’t either. So for any new moms reading this, please note that while it’s great if you can fit into your old clothes at the 6-month mark, it’s also completely OKAY if you do it at the 2-year mark, or the 5-year mark. It’s not a race.
That said, it was a very good read for me. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in 5 days (that’s 5 days WHILE I was moving houses). At the end of it, I felt more positive than I was before I read it. And while I haven’t tried any of the recipes she has listed, some of them do sound like they’ll taste good. ☺️😊
Every 90s kid has grown up watching Mandira Bedi doing wonderful commentary in cricket and proving her acting skills in the various tv dramas which were a major hit of that decade . ▶How she turned from tv bahu to a fitness icon , participating in shows like fear factor , khatron k khiladi .. Mandira Bedi shares it all in this book. ▶The language is very easy and feels much as a direct conversation with the actress. ▶To me , it was more of a motivational read cum guide . ▶I thoroughly enjoyed each chapter as every topic discussed was so meaningful in itself that the anecdotes from author's personal life made it more interesting to read. ▶The book talks about the major hurdles and emotionally draining periods the actress has survived in her life through her family support and love . ▶The author has emphasized on self care above all and shared various ways of self love she practices, Also mentioned some daily affirmations that can keep us going in the direction of our goals. ▶The book has some incredible quotes and teachings which i have even taken notes of. ▶For fitness freaks the book has much more to offer as it legit has a workout playlist and entire workout regime followed by the actress . ▶For me , it was a complete package of knowledge and experience . ▶I would recommend everyone to read it once .
I’m a huge fan of reading memoirs, so I was really looking forward to reading this book. There’s just so much honesty, you know? I’m a late 90s kid, so even though I have grown up around the time our families would sit together and watch Doordarshan and Cricket World Cup, I don’t remember most of it. But I remember Mandira Bedi.
From acting in daily soaps, to becoming a sports enthusiast, a fashion designer, and now a fitness influencer, she’s done a lot. And even though it may not be a life that many of us would envision, and even though it may not be for all of us either, she’s coming out glowing. This book talks about the key lessons she’s learned from her personal experiences that have shaped her perspective on happiness, and the reasons behind it. Heartfelt, honest, and vulnerable this book feels like a one to one conversation between her and the reader.
I’m a huge fan of being fit, and going to gym, and even though I may not talk about that here a lot, reading about her fitness journey was pretty motivating. But this book is SO much more than just gym talk.
I’d recommend this book it to women, especially young mothers, or to-be mothers, or anyone who’s a little lost in their lives about fitness, about happiness, about their career. I think this book can come in really handy.
In Happy For No Reason, actress/fitness icon/entrepreneur Mandira Bedi talks about how she turned her life—professional and personal—around so that now she's happy for no reason (though, if you read the book, there does seem to be good reason to be happy). She covers various topics in this book, mostly techniques to make yourself a more authentic person, to let go, to connect with spirituality, and (of course, given Bedi's love for fitness), how to stay fit.
The section where she explains her daily fitness routine went pretty much over my head, because this is meant for the gym regular, who doesn't need to go to Google to check each exercise she mentions (and there are dozens of different ones). The small bunch of 'healthy recipes' that accompany this are so-so, and there were a few errors in these.
But the major part of the book is less about looking after your body and more about looking after your mind and your attitude. To be honest, there's not much here that hasn't already been said by someone else, somewhere else. Be grateful for all you have; list the many things you should be grateful for. Don't wear a mask and hide behind a facade of who you'd want to project yourself as. Etc. What helps is that this is a celebrity speaking, so I suppose for a certain target audience, that would work: if this works for Mandira Bedi, I should give it a try too.
I am not a fan of self-improvement books, and a self-improvement book by a celebrity: this was not something I thought I would like. Eventually, while it was a pleasant enough book, what I especially liked about it was the way it shows us Mandira Bedi: she comes across as an refreshingly candid person, open about her own failings and ready to admit to flaws. Not a celebrity talking down to the hoi-polloi, but a woman sharing her experiences. Plus, of course there will be some people who will not have read a self-improvement book before, and who could benefit from a good bit of what she writes here.
💙Happy For No Reason💙 Mandira Bedi is a fitness icon. But behind the six-pack is also a snotty, complaining, can't-get-out-of-bed-today girl who, in her own way, is still searching for true happiness. Not conditional, materialistic, transactional happiness, but just happiness. Mandira says 'No'. But she genuinely believes that she's headed in the right direction. In her own chaotic way, she seems to have discovered some kind of non-scientific, non-spiritual and as-yet-non-existent formula for finding peace in everything. Just being happy-for no reason. This book is about that. . 💙This was an extremely powerful read which kept me towards edge till the end. This is a blend of all powerful personal techniques that keeps Mandira happy, in her own personal way and life. This is a must read for everyone, the way she discussed each and every point and then connected them to form a frame base is amazing. For me the best part in the book was the list towards the end which is basically a list of hundred and eight things she is greatful for, the book intricately touches a reader's heart and try and help us to understand the importance of postivity and happiness. Definitely recommended! . Rating: 4.5🌟
All DDLJ and cricket fans know Mandira Bedi 😁. I have watched her from her DDLJ days to Shanti to cricket commentating and as a contestant of khatron Ka khiladi.
In this book Mandira Bedi talks about everything, her family, relationship with her husband, her son, profession, fitness and her new business venture.
Each chapter starts with a positive quote by some famous personality. She talks about how important it is to be fit and to do that you have to make lifestyle changes. I loved the way she openly talks about her temper and how her husband supported and encouraged her to move forward with whatever she wanted to. Everyone goes through ups and downs in their personal and professional lives. But how to face the situation and make the most of it is the biggest challenge. She talks about her tattoo controversy too which was blown out of proportion.
As the title of the book says , " Happy for no reason", I truly feel that if we understand this simple statement our life will be so much better! We are the ones who complicate simple things in life. The book is very easy to read and there are a lot of instances in the book which made me smile while reading.
She has shared some exercises and some wonderful recipes at the end of the book.
Mandira Bedi has been a personality whom I personally adored a lot for her versatility. Since childhood I have seen her in the famous movie DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) , she was a part of 2000's famous Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi serial and even saw her in dad's cricket matches as cricket commentator. I was pretty impressed by this lady as she was everywhere and giving her best in each field. I already loved her personality then.
This isn't just a biography but it's a self help book too. It is divided into eight parts which beautifully covers most of the common insecurities of a girl like pregnancy, post-partum depression, failure, different society norms, etc.
This book isn't just about the star itself but it does show her love for life and it so relatable. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Her language in the book isn't fancy at all, instead it is as straight forward as she is over everywhere.
It was a treat to know her motivation behind each of her decision. Her journey to the current position of a fitness influencer is amazing. She has a life and she enjoyed it thoroughly. Each girl should read this atleast once.

Mandira Bedi who is famously known as #shanti popular series back in 1990s ,who also won the #fearfactor an American stunt/dare television show and then we saw her as a Cricket commentator too . Happy for no reason is a book with 8 chapters in which she shares about self love, partner relationships and learning from her 8 year old sonand to expect nothing and Accept Everything. . And a handbook of fitness is included with some basic fitness tips and amazing recipes ,her top 40 workout songs. . Overall this book is all about her self love, self realization, total acceptance. Its all about positivity. She believes that she's headed in the right direction. In her own chaotic way,she seems to have discovered some kind of non-scientific,non-spiritual and non-existent formula for finding peace in everything. .
Mandira Bedi, a renowned personality in Tv and cinemas and cricket sphere. With me she is the Shanti that hit the tv screens in the 90's. She definitely has come a long way from there and her Book says it all "Happy for No reason" co authored by Satyadev Barman. Language: Easy to understand which somehow resonates well with the layman. I really could feel the words hitting , basically a guide to revamp myself not only in the fitness sphere but also on other traits, like having less expectations from people, or practicing the act of gratefulness. Logical and true to the core. For a celebrity of her stature, its a perspective that speaks from a comman man's point of view
I usually don't read books authored by celebrities, but this was a great pick, with no showing off , but reality of a Human in a glamorous world and yet striving to work hard .
It was more of a self help book than a memoir. I picked it up as i have always been inspired by mandira bedi and after the news of her husband passing away, i came across this book in my feed so just picked it up to know more about the lady who inspired me but was bit disappointed as there was nothing much about her life and struggles but more of self help..
it’s not a bad book.. infact it’s a great self help book but i am just kinda taking break from self help stuff so it didn’t touch me at that level.. As i had read a lot of self help in the past and was aware of most of techniques suggested and i have already been using some of the stuff so I didn’t get much of info except some chapters on partnership, anger management and kids.
what a book! She started from 'Shanti'....If you belongs to 90's How can somenone forget "Shanti"? Hugely popular Doordarshan Show back in 90's. Now she is successful by every societal standards. The book is divided into 8 meaningful Chapters and each Chapter has its own essence. My favorite part of the book is obviously when she talked about her motherhood journey and self love. The book is written in manner that I felt like I am directly listening her. Book is full of positivity and will give you a great vibes.
For me this book worked as a dose of motivation in all ways. I am really glad that I read this book.
This book is definitely not a masterpiece in literature but a great pick-me-up if you are ever in need of a friend to tell you how beautiful this life is and why you should feel happy for no reason. Casual blog-style writing felt refreshing and surprisingly honest. Love reading real stories of perseverance from relatable people.
A book that made me so happy just by the title is this one. Mandira is someone I have seen over the years from TV to cricket and her journey is definitely a one to read about what goes into making who she is , the presence she has on and off screen, her vibe , her persona , her clarity and the things she had dealt with all comes in a more clear picture when you read her story.
Definitely giving lot of insights on a wonderful chapter of self love along with some intricate stories of how she dealt with the things and obviously a lot of motivation for eating healthy, getting fit and much more.
It was a insightful read and I am surely taking many lessons from it. Which I am not just writing on a piece of paper and keeping it and I am in for following it.. ✌️
Very simple narrative. Her self memoir which would be very relatable for many. She radiates gratitude, happiness and contentment throughout. Quick one time read.
It was a great book, It thought many things to be happy for no reason, I will recommend all my fellow book lovers to read this good book. After completing this book I also was happy for no reason.
Mandira Bedi shares her journey of self-love, self-acceptance, gratitude, authenticity, letting go, keeping it real and managing anger in this memoir cum self-help book.
