Bossy Brothers: Alonzo is an enemies-to-lovers trope that can be read as book five or as a standalone story.
ALONZO Tara Tanner and I are not a couple. We don’t do real life. We don’t do real numbers. We don’t do real names. We do phone sex, and text sex, and email sex. Everything about our ‘relationship’ is a lie. You call it catfishing, I call it being careful. And I do not feel bad about it. Because my life is an ocean of secrets that could all wash ashore if I’m not careful.
TARA Alonzo Dumas is the King of Catfishermen. Oh, yes. I know who he really is. But he has no idea who I am. I feed on secrets. They’re my lifeblood. He has no idea that I’ve been stringing him along, casting him a line of lies like bait, and now I’ve got him on my hook. Watch out, Alonzo Dumas. Because I’m about to reel you in.
J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.
After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.
So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.
She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.
Even better than I expected! Dirty from the start and so humorous.
I can’t believe I waited so long to read this book. I had planned to read it from the time I first heard about it when I got the promotional materials for the release of the book back in January but at the time it was too late to sign up for the ARC and review it, so I put it on my TBR and I just have been a bit too busy since then.
However, I did recently sign up for the ARC of the next book, in the series and they offered this one as well so I jumped on it and am so glad I did! I completely fell in love with it. Though each book is technically a stand-alone since they are about different couples, they are about two families that are interconnected through marriage and relationships.
This book is about Alonzo Dumas who is in an online/phone/text/Skype relationship with a girl named Tara Tanner where they sext and talk so filthy to each other that I’m surprised their computer chips and SIM cards don’t melt from all that heat. However, Alonzo is cat-fishing Tara. She thinks he is a mild mannered slightly boring accountant with a dirty streak, but a safe guy by the name of Lonnie Derringer. Unlike the Tattooed bad boys we used to run with before she ended up coming to Colorado and becoming a librarian who wears pencil skirts, blouses and glasses every day.
Though in reality he in Alonzo Dumas, 6’4” Deep Sea Fisherman in the Florida Keys, he rarely wears a shirt, he has muscles built from hard work, not the gym and a body covered in tattoos of all kinds of mermaids, sirens and the fishermen they lured to their deaths. Oh, and as a side job he is into some shady illegal activities with his family.
I don’t want to give away too much but I will say that Tara has not been totally honest with Alonzo either, though they are getting to the point in their relationship where they are starting to feel restless no matter how hot and steamy their calls are I suppose it would get hard to not actually be able to touch each other and be thousands of miles away. I guess you would get to a point where it would be either time to fish or cut bait (pardon the pun). That is when the fireworks begin and boy what a show they are! I will definitely be going back to book 1 and reading the rest of this series as soon as I can!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
Holy smokes the hotness level in this book was scorching!!! As soon as this book hit my tablet I was consumed by these characters, by this story and the banter. Alonso and Tara were nothing short of freaking incredible and their story was filled with lies, secrets, off the charts chemistry and so much sexiness!! I love that we get to revisit all the characters from the previous books and that they all entwine together. We are finally getting answers to the questions that have been running through our heads and I'm so ready for more of the Dumas and Boston families!
I loved Alonzo and Tara’s story. Actually, I’ve loved each of the standalone novels in author J.A. Huss’ Bossy Brothers series, but I definitely love Alonzo’s story most.
From the first page to the last, this book is serious fun. Sexy banter, lovable characters, secrets, lies and many twists and reveals made Alonzo a page-turner. The story starts as a sexy, electronic version of pen pals looking for more and turns into a bit of an adventure/thriller. I just couldn’t put it down!
Alonzo might look like a brawler covered in ink, but his tats have meaning. I adored his story of his family legend. Tara, Belinda and Vann Vaughn are fun additions to the mix, and they create an opportunity to bring many characters together in this latest Bossy Brothers novel. Each character has their baggage or flaws, but that doesn't mean the are less worthy of love. I could go on and on about the details I enjoyed in this book, but that would spoil the fun of reading the book. Go read it and then tell me how much you enjoyed Alonzo and Tara.
Wow, I was not expecting Alonzo's story to be THAT! I pretty much expected there to be a lot of secrets and lies between him and Tara, because the blurb tells us that right off the bat and yes, there are lots of those. But then there's SO MUCH MORE! Julie is the queen of the twists and turns and hitting the reader with things out of left field, and yeah, this story has all of that!
So Alonzo is quite the dirty talking, hot as fuck tatted up fisherman!! And he's been catfishing Tara for the past two years of their relationship, because while he is totally enjoying the sexy phone fuck sessions, he doesn't really know this girl, and she definitely can't know the real Alonzo, and all the secrets he has.
Tara was awesome. I loved the role playing she did with "Lonnie" during their sessions. She presents to Alonzo as this sexy librarian, but she's hiding pretty much her whole life from him. So what happens when Tara shows up at Alonzo's house and all the secrets they've both been keeping get blown wide open? A wild and crazy story, that's what happens!
We get to see the whole Dumas clan (minus Emma) and a couple of Boston brothers, and some cameos that made me squeal like a love stick teenager! I've been missing those guys!!
This book also opens things up for stories to come, and I can't even contain my excitement! I am also still amazed at the turns this story took. I always marvel at how Julie comes up with these complex, intriguing stories that I can't get enough of. And how so many of her various series end up converging on each other and get intertwined. The next book is going to introduce us to a whole bunch of new characters, but take readers back to one of my most favorite "world's" of Julie's. I am so ready!!
So now I'm caught up on Bossy Brothers until Tony comes out in audio. Loved this one! Unexpected fast-paced and fun plot. I am SOOOO glad Alonzo wasn't because I was worried for a minute. JA Huss just keeps getting better. Now I just have to manage to wait a few weeks for the sequel to Bully King.
Alonzo is the next book in the Bossy Brothers series (although it’s a sidestep) as we fall into the world of the Dumas brothers and boy, is it a great place to be. This story is made even more incredible with the arrival of some faces we already know and love, who bring a whole new level of chaos to Key West.
We start with Alonzo Dumas, the adorably gorgeous, dirty as all hell, tatted up fisherman - SLASH - safe, charming, full on sex talking accountant, Lonnie....(there’s a lot going on here!) and Tara, the straight laced, pencil skirt wearing, horny librarian - SLASH- Phoebe the thrift store PI in hiding. (See! A lot going on!)
Lonnie and Tara have secrets. Big ones. One of them being that they are lying to each other about who they really are. Circumstances throw them together and suddenly they need to work out who they really are to each other and more importantly to themselves. Hard when there are literal dangers around every corner and boy does Alonzo love to do beautifully dangerous things!
These two incredibly well written characters are crazy and complex and for the whole book, I wasn’t even sure what they were going to do next. Suffice to say, I devoured every page.
This book was an absolute joy to read. It was funny, dark, layered, punchy, romantic, panty melting and more than anything, it made me smile! So hard.
I cannot wait to see what Tony’s story brings for him and for the rest of the Bossy/Dumas clans!
YES! I enjoyed everything in this story! Alonzo sure knows how to talk and things sure move quickly lol. I can definitely tell this is a branch off from the "J" bossy brothers series. I love the mystery behind Alonzo and Tara. This story added something extra for the Bossy Brothers series as a whole. Things are starting to be revealed. But there is ease of reading this one without the first 4 books. Ohhh, the ending, it was so sweet, but I also want more lol! I don't even know who is my fave at this point bc these men love so hard. So exciting and I can't wait!
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Bossy Brother Alonzo is an epic ride for full of kinky fun, truths, lies and twists that only Julie Huss can bring.This story brings new characters intertwined with some old places and familiar faces. What you believe to be true is anything but.
Tara and Lonnie have been online dating for quite sometime. Their phone escapades are panty melting and erotic. Their banter is hilarious and sexy but they both long for something more. When Lonnie tries to share some truth, things go off the rails spectacularly. This sexy romp turns into mystery and thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat and burning through the pages.
This story was amazing on all levels. Tara and Alonzo both made me all kinds of happy like all the frikkin time and in true JA Huss style, the story was convoluted, twisty and surprising at times. I loved their relationship from start to finish. It was refreshing and new. I can't say it was relatable (LMAO) but it did not read OTT at all! Very impressive!
JA HUSS HAS DONE IT AGAIN. Another 5 Star read that will have you glued too your kindle and loving Lonnie & Tara. I absolutely love Lonnie and Tara’s story and their secrets WOW. Lonnie and Tara had me hooked from page one and I absolutely love seeing Vann Vaughn and of course the Bossy Brothers. It’s no surprise that I’m a HUGE FAN of all JA’s work and of course I knew I would absolutely FLOVE this book. JA is an author that you are guaranteed a good mind f*ck, amazing characters and a story you will never forget. Truly an amazing read that everyone must truly one click.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Loved this book so funny and lots of secrets and twists in this story Tara and Alonzo are made for each other they lied to each other and have hot phone sex and eventually meet and wow the chemistry but the lies and the past comes between them can they have a life together. Loved the EOBS so many characters from other books and worlds that Julies created so looking forward to meeting them again and all the new ones too
Alonzo finally gave me some answers! And I truly loved those answers - even if, of course since this is a Huss book, there are more questions too! - because there are some connections that are finally being made. I thought Alonzo and Tara were a pretty unlikely couple, but at the same time, their romance was both cute and hot, too.
Long distance phone friends Tara and Lonnie spend two years playing cat(fish) and mouse, as the identity behind the identity weaves a very tangled web that's bound to snag, in spectacular fashion. The small world gets smaller as three friends from Colorado road trip to Florida. Tara and Alonzo find their live, in person connection even more intense, and handholding on the beach is so romantic(!) Yes, there are a lot of issues to unpack, but this couple makes the pain worth the gain. Loved it!
No Spoilers. This was surprisingly a very fast read, and it light hearted. What a Great Read, I cant wait to buy this book! I love this universe! Tara & Lonnie are my favorites so far!
I Love J.A. Huss’s Books! I Will Always Buy Them! :D
Alonzo is one complicated sexy man. Tara is one strong compassionate woman. They both have secrets. There connection is amazing. They fit together perfectly. This book sucked me in from the start. I could not wait to see what would happen next. Loved all the twists and turns in this story.
Oh Wow...this book gives all the feels! Buckle up and get ready for this wild and fun ride! Alonzo Dumas is Jesse Boston’s brother in law. He runs Dumas Deep Sea Fishing but that’s not his only job. On the side, Alonzo might also be considered a catfisher as he started chatting with a Tara Tanner two years ago under a completely different profile. It’s okay though since they live far far away from each other so she won’t ever find out...right? Well, that is until she goes to Florida and she isn’t exactly who she said she was either!!! What will Alonzo do and how will he explain his deception? What about her real reasons for showing up? “We’re separated by two thousand miles and yet...we’re not. She’s here with me, and I’m there with her, and we’re together, even though we’re not.” This is a romantic comedy/suspense that can be read as a stand-alone however, there are intersecting characters from other books. Who doesn’t love a dirty-talking fisherman. I don’t think I smiled so much reading a book! Their banter together is so amusing and all the twists revealed left my jaw on the floor! This book had a little of everything from action, suspense, secrets to comedy and hot times. Are you ready for their new normal? Told in dual POV
Alonzo and Tara's story is so full of passion, banter and feels and everything I love in a book. ALonzo is the perfect rough alpha - the kind that makes me swoon. Put these two characters and you have an intense and incredible story that I could not put down.
This was a very refreshing read featuring a very steamy textual relationship and crew of individuals under witness protection and the supposed bad guys.
There's a little mix up between the protagonists but it's cleared up in the second half of the book and trust me when I tell you that you just might swooooooooon while reading this. I know I did.
Gosh, I can't even with this guy. Is Alonzo a super cocky guy? Oh heck yes he is. He'll be the first one to tell you that he is a hot mofo and that he could pretty much have any woman he wants. However, there is a depth to him that I found absolutely surprising and wonderfully endearing. Tara is probably every guys dream. She is confident, sexy, smart and not afraid of grabbing what she wants. But I suppose sometimes that's easy when you aren't face to face. Who is catfishing who? What is each hiding from the other? Every paragraph JA Huss wrote leads us to another mystery revolving the Dumas family, the Boston family AND the Company (or the Way) as we know them. Some mysteries are solved, others are brought to the forefront. The way JA Huss writes these stories weaving past stories and characters so seamlessly is an absolutely amazing feat indeed and I look forward to so much more.
I thought this book will leave "The Bossy Brothers" behind and focus on the Dumas clan. But I was in for a surprise!
Lonnie is such a sweet guy but filthy at the same time so of course he found a siren to match his appetite but kind heart. Contrary to his appearances he is actually the sweetest guy. But at the same time I loved how ballsy he got with Johnny when needed. And his annoyance and "don't give a damn attitude" with Jesse was so funny. And oh boy, Jesse grows in my eye with every book even as a secondary character. He is just so unfazed by anything but so wise :)
Slowly but surely we are getting pieces of the bigger picture when it comes to the Dumas family. And I feel that there are more skeletons in the closet. Next is Tony's story and I am wondering if some other feisty character from this book will make an appearance ;)
I was SO excite to get my hands on Alonzo, I FREAKING LOVED IT!!! J.A Huss is truly brilliant with the way she write her stories, she makes you "think" you know what is going to happen THEN.... She throws another plot twist and BAM you're even more hooked that before. I don't even know how to explain my reading experience of Alonzo, except to say that it is TRULY an experience reading. Throughout the entire story I was on the edge of my seat as more of the suspense unraveled, only to have more added on. This book ties in with other story lines and I LOVED getting to see and catch up with past characters. My favorite part about reading J.A Huss' work is that there's a HUGE story within all the separate stories and you get sucked into all of the intrigue and espionage, I can't get enough of it and I am glad that we have more to look forward to in the future!!
I just loved this book Alonzo and Tara are made for each other. Each has their secrets and live miles apart from one another but they have a connection and the phone sex is HOT. And when they meet WOW. So many twists in this story and so many funny things. The coming together of so many families and the upcoming book will be epic.This book is so well written and links up to other wonderful books and fabulous characters in the other series that Julie has written and I am so looking forward to reading about them again in the next book. Things are really going to get better and I just cant wait x
As stated this can be read on its own, I read book 1 but then jumped straight into this one and had no trouble understanding what was going on, It took me a little while to get into their story but once I did I really love getting to know them. This was a very hot read from Julie and can't wait to read her next book.
Tara Tanner has a dirty little secret, and his name is Lonnie Derringer. She and the dirty talking accountant have been involved for the better part of two years... but have never met in person. But while phone sex with Lonnie is better than any of the real men she has ever been with, when Lonnie starts acting weird, Tara starts to wonder just how well she really knows her fantasy man...
Alonzo Dumas is definitely NOT a boring accountant. And even though he has been essentially catfishing Tara for the entire span of their relationship, he has still been more truthful with her than anyone else in his entire life... and he just might want a future with the woman of his dreams... who knows next to nothing about him...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alonzo was a no-holds-barred phone sex masterpiece that will leave you completely satisfied... and yet desperate for more. Tara and Alonzo have an ultra sexy and steaming hot relationship, despite having never met in person. But when the façade of their identities starts to crumble, will the connection they share suffer as a consequence of their not-so-honest beginning...
Tara is living a whole new life since she saw something she shouldn't have, and eventually ended up in the the witness protection program. Life in Fort Collins (woot! FOCO shout out!!!) may be quiet and a little boring, but her sex life is thriving. Until the lie that Tara didn't know she was living is exposed, and she decides to confront the man who has been lying to her for the past two years...
Alonzo is a hunky fisherman who knows his way around phone sex... and false relationships. When he and Tara first started talking, he only planned on keeping his subterfuge going for a short while, but the more time he spends with Tara, the harder it is for him to move on. And when he finally comes clean, Tara surprises him by showing up when he least expects her... and as a result, she just might possibly bring his entire extracurricular activities screeching to a halt...
Phew, this was one incredibly sexy book! Tara and Alonzo's phone sex relationship turns into even-hotter-in-real-life encounters that can only take a back seat to the truth of just what the Dumas men are up to... and who they are involved with.
I couldn't get enough of the unconventional relationship between Tara and Alonzo! They were both incredibly interesting characters who were both harboring secrets and as a result, not really living their lives to their fullest. And just when their scorching hot relationship seems that it will dominate the storyline, the plot thickens, and Alonzo's life in Key West will take everyone for a wild and complicated ride...
Alonzo is a part of the Bossy Brothers series, but can be read as a complete standalone.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
3.75 stars--ALONZO is the fifth instalment in J.A. Huss’ contemporary, adult BOSSY erotic, romance series. This is Alonzo ‘Lonnie Derringer’ Dumas, and Phoebe ‘Tara Tanner’ Covington’s story line. ALONZO can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.
NOTE: I have not read any of the previous story lines, and I felt a little lost going into this particle arc of the series.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Lonnie and Tara) ALONZO follows the enemies to lovers/ relationship of lies between Alonzo ‘Lonnie Derringer’ Dumas, and Phoebe ‘Tara Tanner’ Covington. Alonzo Dumas had been catfishing Phoebe Covington for close to two years but to both of their shock, anger and total surprise Lonnie Derringer and Tara Tanner did not exist. Phoebe Covington has been in hiding for close to two years, and meeting Lonnie Derringer online gave Phoebe something to look forward to but Phoebe’s life is about to spiral out of control, and along with her best friend Belinda (aka Rosalie) and her co-worker Vann, the trio head to Key West, Florida where Phoebe aka Tara’s life will take an ominous turn. What ensues is the building relationship between Tara and Lonnie, and the fall-out when secrets and lies, and a case of mistaken beliefs forces Tara to reconsider everything she thought was the truth, and is now a lie.
The relationship between Tara and Lonnie is predicated upon numerous lies. A two year, long distance online romance involving sexting and phone-sex begins to dissolve when our couple is hoping for something more but something more means revealing themselves to one another, a reveal that comes with heart break and pain. The $ex scenes are erotic, intimate and intense.
ALONZO is a story of secrets and lies. Both Lonnie and Tara are not whom they present themselves to be, and their equally questionable stories will eventually back fire when the truth is revealed. While Alonzo is reluctant to reveal the truth and the depths to which his secret entails, Phoebe aka Tara, is under the mistaken belief that Alonzo is involved in something seedy and dark. The slow building premise is engaging and entertaining (once you get past the online, long-distance, somewhat tedious, affair); the romance is provocative and dirty. Most of the secondary and supporting characters have been introduced in the previous story lines including Johnny, Joey and Jesse Boston.
Ok so I have seen a lot and by a lot I mean a lot of people listening to audiobooks. But I never tried it as it seemed time consuming. I don't know why but I really wanted to try one and today I downloaded this book. Jacob Morgan as a narrator was recommended so I thought I'd try this as the storyline seemed interesting.
I started listening to it and reading the PDF at the same time. 35 pages in I ditched the PDF. 42% of the book later I ditched the audiobook and started reading from the PDF 😂 I listened to 42% of the book in 3 hours and it seemed to take too long, even though I was listening at 1.8x, so I switched to the PDF and finished 58% of the book in 45 minutes.
Soooo getting to the point 😅 I really liked the narrator and may listen to an audiobook in the future if it's short and has a good narrator and doesn't drag.
About the book. I loved it. The dirty talk and scenes were hot AF 🥵🔥 I liked how steadily the relationship and plot happened and the secrets came out. But that plot twist? I was so not prepared 😶 But... it turned out fine and we got a fitting end to the story 🦋
Alonzo is such a rugged and sexy man and he and Tara are perfect together. I loved the siren story and I think I might just read the other books in the series as well or listen to the audiobooks if I'm bored. Who knows? 🥰
This author... I'm running out of ways to describe how amazing this author is. I've been on this ride since the beginning, so to see all the Easter eggs in the story and then can see how a bazillion books later (exaggeration, but I'm trying to make a point) those same eggs/puzzle pieces fall in to place truly boggles my mind. If Gandalf was a real wizard (and female) then he would be this author. I don't know how she does it. And even though I've been around since the beginning, and I KNOW these books and their secrets, I just KNOW that she is going to give me that moment where it all comes together on a grand scale. A moment so big that I will likely scream and go, WHAT THE HOLY HELL?! " only I will, probably (totally will), use profanity and curse this author while praising her for her wizarding ways.
Loved this book and Loved watching the author weave her magic. How she can create a standalone at the same time instrumental in so many other books is truly only something an evil genius can do. All hail the Queen.
Tara and Alonzo have been having a long distance relationship for over two years. Yet, they have never met. That is going to change as Tara travels to Florida to call out her man. Tara and Alonzo has so many secrets between the two of them, can a relationship even work? Huss does a fabulous job of guiding the reader into the wrong I know where this is going, then pivot to what the heck just happened.
I enjoyed Tara and Alonzo’s story much more then I anticipated. It was steamy, sweet and funny. Tara and Alonzo have had a strictly fake phone sex relationship for 2 years both deceiving the other that all changes when they actually meet and deal with the sexy fallout of meeting and trying to weed through the half truths. There was lots of twists in this story but one thing that was in abundance was how utterly sexy it was!
