One year. Five million dollars. A proposal she can’t refuse.
Escort Ruby Scott is used to waking up in the bed of a wealthy woman. What she isn’t expecting is to wake up with a ring on her finger and married to Yvonne Maxwell, one of the executives behind the Mistress Media empire, a woman as alluring as she is cold.
For ten years, Yvonne has been sitting on an inheritance she can’t touch until she’s married. An encounter with an escort in Las Vegas presents the perfect solution—a marriage of convenience. In exchange for playing the role of her wife for a year, Yvonne will grant Ruby a life of glamour, luxury, and more money than she ever dreamed of.
Yvonne insists they keep their relationship strictly business. But when Ruby’s submissive side awakens, she can’t resist temptation. As Ruby falls deeper into Yvonne’s world of seduction and power games, both women try to keep their hearts from getting caught up in their arrangement. But with threats to their fake marriage plot looming, Ruby and Yvonne find they have far more to lose than the inheritance.

Anna Stone knows how to consistently give me a sexy, BDSM-laced, romantic tale with all the money and delicious dialogue in tow.
For some reason, I give Stone the leeway to just take me on a journey, even amongst the mansions and unimaginable wealth of Mistress Yvonne (hot, hot Ice Queen) and previous characters in other books. On a normal day, I'm much more realistic about my ideals concerning money, but for stories like these, I let it all go for the sake of the fairy tale feeling.
Once Ruby and Yvonne cross that threshold into domme-sub, it really takes off. My, how I squirmed through reading these erotic scenes.
The drama doesn't take long to resolve, which works for me. I was a little curious about Ruby's background beyond what we're told.
Tangled Vows is about Ruby, an escort girl looking for a new client and Yvonne, a successful woman about to lose her inheritance if she doesn't marry and quickly. Their interest align and after too many drinks, they wake up with a ring on their finger. Now, the synopsis isn't original I'll admit but it was a nice change to read a f/f romance with that trope.
Yvonne was described as a dominant woman having specific and "twisted" desires when it came to her lovers and therefore, I expected something darker maybe a little more hardcore bdsm. However, in the end, while she liked to dominate her submissive, it still felt tame and a little vanilla. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it though!
Overall, Tangled Vows was an easy & sexy read and I'm curious to read more by this author.
4 stars. My toxic trait is that I am obsessed with emotionally stunted Ice Queens and Yvonne delivered on that. This was just what I wanted. The prequel novella really had me interested in Yvonne and her story. She’s such a frustrating and emotionally shut off person and I loved her so much. Plus, when she got into Domme mode and was about her shit *chefs kiss*. She’s everything.
This book had another catnip of mine which is fake dating/marriage of convenience. Yvonne and Ruby pretend to be married so that Yvonne can receive her inheritance and that was fun. The tension between them was palpable and I loved the push and pull. Ruby was great. She’s determined and witty and eager. I thought she really balanced Yvonne out well and I loved watching them open up to each other and let their guards down. It was very sweet. Also, Yvonne fucks up pretty bad at the end there but does some damn good groveling which made me love her even more.
If you haven’t gathered by now Yvonne has my heart. That’s the entire gist of this review.
If you have read anything written by Anna Stone, then you know what to expect... someone young and someone older, rich and not too rich ladies and some kinkiness included. Stay away if you don’t like the themes...
Okay so here’s the thing with Stone’s novels. They’re brilliantly written, consensual, safe BDSM, WLW spicy romance novels. And they’re great.
Stone’s writing is always captivating, well written and fluid.
My issue lies with two things. A) plot B)repetition.
First of all some of the plots are *sighs in gay* very out there, unbelievable and fanfic styled. I’ve read three of these over the course of a couple days and the repetition is just… not great if you’re planning on reading multiple Stone books.
Whilst the plot line vaguely changes, their ages are always the same ish (mid thirties to 40’s and an age gap with a ‘younger’ gal normally 23-25)
Their kinks are always fairly tame and very similar across novels (there’s not much outside of spanking, rope/cuff play and straps.)
And their backgrounds or issues with previous masters or bad sub-drop experiences are very similar throughout.
Anna Stone is a good writer don’t get me wrong, it’s just they lack so much variation between stories.
4.5 Stars for Tangled Vows by Anna Stone read by Lexy Rebe. This was a great story. I really liked the characters and the interesting situation they were put in.
I RECEIVED AN ARC COPY OF THE BOOK DIRECT FROM THE AUTHOR AND VOLUNTARILY LEAVING MY REVIEW.
THIS IS BOOK ONE IN A NEW SERIES BY THE AUTHOR.
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW ... I DIDN'T THINK MS STONE COULD GET ANY BETTER AS SHE IS A FANTASTIC AUTHOR BUT SHE HAS OUTDONE HERSELF WITH THIS ONE. I THINK I HAVE FOUND MY NEW FAVOURITE FROM HER.
YVONNE IS ONE FIFTH OF THE OWNERS OF MISTRESS MEDIA. IN ORDER FOR HER TO CLAIM HER INHERITANCE FROM HER FATHER SHE NEEDS TO BE MARRIED WITHIN 10 YEARS AND THE DEADLINE IS FAST APPROACHING.
RUBY IS AN ESCORT. SHE IS SHORT ON CASH AND NEEDS MONEY FAST TO KEEP A ROOF ABOVE HER HEAD AND PAY OF SOME OF HER DEBTS.
I JUST HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS BOOK JUST BLOW ME AWAY. ONCE I STARTED READING I AUTOMATICALLY LOST ALL TRACK OF TIME AND STAYED UP HALF THE NIGHT JUST TO FINISH IT.
I LOVED BOTH MAIN CHARACTERS OF RUBY AND YVONNE. THE BOOK IS WELL WRITTEN WITH VERY LIKEABLE CHARACTERS. I COULDN'T GET ENOUGH OF THE PAIR. THEY MEET AT A BAR IN VEGAS AND BEFORE THEY KNOW IT THEY REALISE THE NEXT MORNING THAT THEY GOT MARRIED, NEITHER ONE REMEMBERING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEN THE FUN BEGINS. GREAT STORY LINE, GREAT CHARACTERS AND PACE WAS JUST RIGHT.
DEFINITELY RECOMMEND READING THIS ONE AND ALL THE AUTHORS OTHER WORKS. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
“How could I ever think you were broken? Sometimes you’re so perfect, I don’t know what to do with you.”
2.5 stars. This was fine! I don't have any complaints about it really, but it didn't wow me in any particular way. I went into it knowing that it was a rich girl/poor girl romance, which I don't love, but I still gave it a chance because it's a fake marriage situation, which I ADORE. And it was okay. I didn't get as many 'oh no we need to pretend to be in love!' scenes as I'd have liked, but the entire thing was well enough written to keep me engaged. That wasn't true all the way through the book; at first I felt like the characters were kind of lacklustre. But then they got some more depth, and we got a little more insight into them, and they had a few really sweet and touching moments, and I started to like them as a couple.
Also, I like BDSM elements in books, but they can be pretty hit or miss for me. This, happily, was mostly a hit.
So yeah. I wasn't wowed, but I wasn't disappointed!
I loved this book. Both Ruby and Yvonne are lovely characters. Ice queens are always a big favorite of mine. All the chapters are short and well written.
I wish I could re-read this series as if it were the first time. Since then, I haven't been able to put any of Anna Stone's books down. I can't wait to continue the series while listening to the audiobook.
Overall, if you're looking for an easy to read series that works as a standalone, this one is a great pick. You'll find an ice queen, lots of spice, and just the right amount of BDSM to make it enjoyable.
I’m obsessed with Anna Stone’s books. I enjoyed Tangled Vows just like I have enjoyed every other book of hers that I have read.
This book was semi-different compared to her other ones, but it was just as good. I loved how it was a dual POV, and I loved everything about Yvonne and Ruby, from their personality to the way they act with each other.
What a wonderful story. I had to read it straight through it was so captivating. Yvonne and Ruby are very complex characters. I was really rooting for their relationship. Yvonne seemed so cold until Ruby started to melt the ice. They both have so much love to give. I look forward to the next book.
tldr: my literary love affair with Anna Stone continues. I have an ARC copy but I also have the book pre-ordered on Amazon. Gotta support my favourite indie author. I usually have a rule where I only rate books five stars if I've read them more than once and loved them every time but there's no point here because I know I'll be reading this book again. Multiple times if the others are anything to go by. This is Stone's longest work to date but it flows really well with the extra words being dedicated to character development that was perhaps a little lacking in previous works. Yvonne and Ruby both have their issues and both have to deal with them to find their happy ending.
This book captivated me from the first page. My curiosity was piqued with Ruby's ex client and the reason behind Yvonne's icy demeanor. The sex scenes were amazing and well written and the chemistry was off the charts from their very first interaction. Very much looking forward to this new series.
I did enjoy the story, just think it was fully for me. I tandem read with the audiobook which I personally think didn’t help my enjoyment as I wasn’t a huge fan of the narration. At times it sounded like Louis from Family Guy, so it was a little off putting at certain points 😂
I really like Anna Stones books, so this hasn’t put me off and I’ll definitely continue with the Mistress series.
Written in third person with 2x POV’s. Narrated by Lexy Rebe. Age Gap (9), Ice Queen, Rich Girl/Poor Girl, Marriage of Convenience. 7x Spicy Scenes.
This wonderful book was on my TBR shelves! We follow Ruby an escort, who has been out of the business for a while, trying to snag Yvonne a extremely wealthy business woman. The two women get drunk and end up married. Yvonne has to be married in order to get her father's inheritance. What neither women knows is that the other is into BDSM. Yvonne being the Domme and Ruby the Submissive. What a fun, HOT love story!! Definitely 5 stars!!
Update: I'm rounding up the rating a few months after reading this. Although subjectively I didn't love this, it wasn't all that bad and it really emphasized the importance of consent and aftercare in the BDSM scenes, something that most books don't do. Since I really appreciated that, I'm changing my rating from a subjective 2 stars to an objective 3.
Objectively, this was probably a three star read, I just really didn't enjoy it. I was excited for a f/f fake dating/drunk marriage plot. These are not new tropes, but not often depicted in sapphic media, however this just didn't do it for me. I didn't feel the two leads had that much chemistry and their romance felt rushed and a little cliche. Also, on multiple occasions I found myself questioning the plot. Yvonne's father was homophobic, so in order to get her inheritance she has to marry. I understand this from a plot perspective, it forces her to marry Ruby and sets up the plot, but you would think a homophobic person would state you have to marry a man, granted I don't know if you could legally do that. Also, the whole reason Ruby and Yvonne had to fake being in love was so people believed their marriage, but the will just said she had to get married, not that she had to be in love. Again, I understand for plot sake why it played out like this, and that someone had to verify their marriage, but still, it all felt too convenient. One thing I did like though is this book did a good job outlining consent. Overall, it wasn't a bad book, about your typical romance. It simply wasn't for me, but I wouldn't discourage people from checking it out.
Ruby is a high-end escort who wasn't getting any luck of finding clients until she meets a mysterious woman at a bar named Yvonne. They chat a bit, sharing a bottle of hard alcohol due to the night they respectively had. The next thing, they both wake up and find out they got married the night before. This works in Yvonne's favor as she is trying to get her inheritance and marriage was the requirement. But, will Ruby stay for a share of the money, or is Yvonne too cold to be near?
I always try making a little synopsis. Sometimes it works, and most of the time it's terrible. I don't even know why I do it lol. Any way I gobbled this story up. The character development, the differences between the two characters, and the ehem BDSM parts were a nice touch I didn't expect.
Ruby instantly got into the role as a submissive, and I can understand why some people would think that's a little too weird and fast. But since she had prior experience as being a submissive, I think it's not too bad.
My first Anna Stone and my first BDSM. I enjoyed many things about this book. The story was entertaining and the characters intriguing. I loved icy Yvonne, and I related to Ruby’s struggle to find herself again having been turned into a shell by her ex. I listened to the audio version narrated by Lexy Rebe. I loved her drawl and especially loved Yvonne’s sexy voice. I wasn’t so fond of Ruby’s voice. I want to say the book shocked me with the bdsm scenes, but not at all. Which might have a little more to do with me as the writing was exquisite and the scenes well done in all aspects. I appreciated the angst and tension build up wasn’t drawn out and the resolution was extremely satisfying. I like Anna Stones use of words and look forward to reading more of her books.
This was pretty okay read. It started out really strong and I waa very much intrigued by the two main characters. The middle kinda dragged a little for me because I felt the characters didnt develop enough as individuals and certain things just felt repetitive and unnecessary. I would have liked Ruby to meet Nita and Yvonne to meet the parents. Maybe even have Ruby reconnect with lost friends or get friends just something more. The ending section was good. The argument was well done. Overall it decent read
I’ve always wanted to read this plot in wlw version. So thank you so much for this, Anna! It was perfect! Everything I’ve ever wanted! Just wish we could’ve have seen their “real” wedding in the end, that would’ve been lovely, but I loved it all!! So so good! Ruby and Yvonne were amazing! Both with their problems but they helped each other and they overcame them in the end. Just amazing! 100% recommend. This book is sexy and enticing and also romantic and cute!
“There’s nothing as satisfying as getting a massage from a grateful submissive after spending the entire evening spanking her.”
I really enjoyed it! The pining was great and the BDSM was handled well and healthily. I loved the ending and where things ended up. I kinda was wanting to see a specific scene but never got it but it didn't dampen the story at all. This was my first book by this author and I can't wait to read more from her.
I am big fan of Anna's books and stories. I enjoyed this one as well, no surprise here. Love her writing style. The story however wasn't that engaging like the others... Anyway, lots of hot scenes and definitely would recommend it.
Ps.
I can't wait for the book with Amber's story... I think hers would be really interesting & hot...
Like 2.5/5 ... I’m feeling a little torn on this book.
I liked the premise of the series - Mistress Media is a billion dollar company founded and run by women, who happen to all be lesbian/queer and running in the same BDSM circles. Each story follows a different woman’s love story.
I liked the premise for this book: Yvonne is a wealthy woman who would be wealthier if she married soon… her father’s will stipulated she’d get her inheritance if she married within 10 years of his death. She happens upon Ruby, an escort, in a Vegas bar, one thing leads to another… marriage of convenience.
There’s also a BDSM element, as Yvonne becomes Ruby’s dom/mistress.
Something was missing for me from this book. I read fast, and if a book clicks with me I will finish it ASAP. I read book drawn out over four days because I’d read a little bit and find myself flipping to something else, getting pulled into do something else… I was shocked it’s under 300 pages.
I feel like the emotional aspect of their relationship wasn’t there for me. When they were questioning their feelings or “in love” I didn’t really buy it because I didn’t think the groundwork was there - like time spent together, secrets shared, etc.
I did enjoy the writing and most of the pacing, so I’m going to check out more from this author in the future.
CW: homophobia, past abuse, consensual non-consent, BDSM, sex work
