This was one of the first m/m romances I purchased and read. At the time, I thought the short format would give me enough of a taste to see if I was interested in reading more of the genre.
Dislike/like (ending on a high note):
Dislike~ Some readers might not like this because it has a ‘let’s be mates’ theme. Having said that, it is NOT a ‘let’s be mates but I’m not gay’ story which may make it more believable/acceptable to those of you who raised your eyebrow.
Like~ I do enjoy a romance involving an older, more experienced protag with a younger, more innocent character. Of course, the squicky factor must be low. For some reason I’m also a fan of the falling for the BF of an older sibling scenario. Again, it should be convincing. *ponders* Maybe I like it so much because I always wanted an older brother for the purposes of providing bodies for insta boyfriends, dates to dances, etc. Could be. ;)
Dislike~ Too. Short. Wanted. More.
Like~ I’m superficial enough to admit that the sex in this is friggin HAWT. Plus, the smutty pictures that title conjures... too cool. *g*
So, what I think:
This is one of the shorts I pull out of the virtual library whenever I’m in the mood for a short, sharp and sexy breather.
‘Tasting’ is my version of a mini-review where I talk a (very) little about what I liked and disliked about a book as well as who I think the story will appeal to. Oh, and I’ve added a bit about why I picked up the book in the first place – sometimes this can be interesting to know.
Another short, unsatisfying story-this had great potential that just wasn't met. Toby has had a crush on Cliff forever and finally Cliff seems to be returning his interest. The crush portion was never really developed and that would have been lovely reading, and really I could have sacrificed the sex scenes (though well written) for more development in that area. The scene well Toby is in a huff and ignores Cliff and Cliff refuses to be ignored was sexy and promised a hot commanding lead character. And when Cliff is in wolf form playfully inching up on Cody every time he turned his back, it was sweet and cute. But from there they jump into sex, no exploring the chemistry, no foreplay, just-bam! 'you're my mate, and oh yeah, I love you. No, didn't love you all along but I noticed you four months and ago and oh, yeah, NOW I love you.'
Still, I will be exploring more from this author. Overall, it was well written if rushed and not quite fleshed out story wise...
Short story about shifter Toby who is finally reaching his 'sexual maturity' at the ripe old age of 26! Lol His mate is the guy he's been crushing on forever! Apart from the mating and scenting the shifter aspect didn't play a big role in the story, but it's cute and sexy.
One thing that bothered me is that about 1/4 of the book is advertisements and blurbs for other books! The story ends and the last 1/4 is about other Samhain titles! Not the authors fault and didn't go onto my rating, but it's such a short book anyway and I see I am at 65% and then I think oh cool, but nope, the story is over soon after and it's all about other books!
Omg! Why this story was so short?, no fair. Its was a really nice book, I like it a lot. I also have to thank my friend Jerry Beale for introducing me to this great book.
I was a little disappointed because the story was too short, but I enjoyed it while it lasted. Besides that, I wanted to see a more interesting plot, but hey! I don't hold it against mama bear and her cub xD
I have read this short story about 5 times and will keep returning to it again and again. It embodies all I love about gay werewolf stories. Just so perfect.
I read this short story in the multiple author paperback anthology A MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT STEAM TEMPERATURE'S RISING in November 2009. It was very enjoyable. I definitely plan to read more by this author. This story about a half breed werewolf who is only just going through his second puberty in preparation to be someone's mate and is still a virgin at twenty six years of age. Oh he someone in mind and has for a long time, now if only he could get his mate's attention. Boy does he ever! This story is funny, sweet, about a very strong mutual attraction. There are some anger and family issues. Overall a really great little shifter story.
Nut Cream is a good romance story, with some touching first time sex. Toby is half-human/half-werewolf who has finally entered his mating phase at age 26; six years later than full weres. He's had a crush on his brother's best friend Cliff for years. What are the chances they could be mates? Very good, obviously, as this is romance!
Though supposedly a werewolf story, that aspect doesn't have a much impact on the story other than the "mating" biology stuff. Cliff finally convinces Toby he really wants him, and they have their happily ever after - the end. A good, quick read, that isn't up to the special quality of Buchanan's Felidae series.
One huge caveat - the publisher posts the page length at 90. But, that includes THIRTY PAGES of previews for other titles! That is very misleading, but not the fault of the author or the story. Recommended.
this was recommends to me by Barnes and Noble. I'm not sure what I've been reading that they order me suggestions with title like Nut Cream, but I was intrigued enough to try it.
With that title I expected it to be no better than amateur porn but it was surprisingly well written. It features the fated mates trope. That worked in the context if the story.
I struggled with the way Cliff acted toward Toby in the beginning. He seemed to enjoy making Toby uncomfortable. I didn't like how condescending and almost mean he seemed at times.
Although better written than expected, I think its overpriced for the page count and content.
Highly recommended by Kris I had read all the others in this series except this one for some reason. So I did. Great little story about werewolves in Calgary (which so lacks the cachet of werewolf in London). The older brother’s best friend finally makes a move on the half-breed younger brother. Sexy use of nut cream and bath oil ensue. Very sexy story with likeable characters you are rooting for.
A fun, happy, uncomplicated read. I’m a bit over werewolves and non-humans at the moment, but thankfully the PNR element here did not require too much brain power to process and still managed to make sense.
Shifter hormones abound. What a young half-breed to do when the man he has loved from a distance for years starts to sniff around?... I'm sure you get the gist of what I'm saying.
The story was not for me. I didn't like Cliff and I can't believe this werewolf maturity thing, humans hit puberty in their teens, werewolves are twens and hybrids even later?
