Titus Black #2

Game of Shadows

Rate this book

Titus Black wasn’t the trusting kind of guy, even for a black ops agent. And when he ventures into Russia to bring home a missing scientist, Black learns some information that makes him question everything he’s known to be true about his director, J.D. Blunt.

Meanwhile, Black and the Firestorm team uncover a treasonous plot from one of the most powerful men in congress. As Black’s worlds converge, he must thwart an assassination attempt or face dire consequences, including the end of the very organization that keeps his country safe from terrorists of every kind.

THE FIRST SIGNS that I might like writing -- and that I might be slightly competitive -- appeared when my year two (or first grade) teacher, Mrs. Holland, asked my class to write and illustrate our day. Mine read like this: “The Red team beat the Blue team, 1 to nil. And I won.” The next 47 entries covered my exploits on the soccer pitch while growing up in Ipswich, England.

In South Carolina as a teenager, my dad told me that I could get paid to watch sports provided I could write about it. Sounded easy enough and by the time I was 16, I landed a job at my town’s daily newspaper and had a column on Major League Baseball players from our area. I also covered my first riot there at a sporting event -- and it’s safe to say I was smitten with journalism.

After graduating from one of the best journalism schools in the country, I took a job as a sports editor in South Georgia and learned firsthand about the passion of high school sports in rural America. I thought I knew before, but I didn’t. This was another world.

I also had the opportunity to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. It was a thrill!

But nothing was as thrilling to me as uncovering the truth in investigative assignments. I once broke a story about a prominent southern football team’s NCAA violation -- and found out the violating coach had committed suicide only a few months earlier. The story won a national writing award and stoked my desire to write about these issues. It made me realize that the sports world was just another fantastic backdrop for drama.

After writing non-fiction books with athletes, for athletes, and ghost writing for many others, I decided to enter the world of fiction writing. It had been something I wanted to do but never found the time. So, I made the time--and had a blast in the process.

I’m not out to become the next Faulkner or Hemingway -- I’m just out to tell a good story. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!

I like the steady pace of this action/suspense spy thriller as the author develops the character of Titus Black a little bit more, especially surrounding the mystery of his father's death. His father is a war hero who was shot down over Afghanistan and the records were sealed. This part of the plot adds a bit more intrigue about Black and the black ops agency he's working for which compelled me to keep reading. The Titus Black saga is an easy read, enabling me to read it in a matter of a few days. I look forward to the next book as the story dives deeper into many of the other characters including his boss J.D. Blunt. I am curious if there is more to him than meets the eye as there always is in that line of work. I'd also love more of a backstory of his supporting characters as well so that it adds depth. I look forward to seeing more of that as the saga unfolds. This saga is recommended.

I have found another agent to love as much as I love Mitch Rapp (Vince Flynn)! Titus Black keeps getting better. This is book 2, and I couldn't put it down! Black and Shields are great undercover intelligence agents continuing to fight to keep America safe while taking some of the corrupt power players down. I can't wait to read the next book as well as the rest of the series. Thankfully, I don't have to wait for the next book to be published! I already have it.

Like hell I’m gonna let a sleeping dog lie. Blunt left the White House more determined than ever to find out what exactly Judge Mullen and Michaels were intent on hiding. Even though Blunt had to leave in the morning for a short trip to Geneva, he wasn’t about to delay his hunt for the truth about what really happened to Capt. Black in Afghanistan.

I enjoyed Patterson’s first in this Titus Black series more than this one as it is full of politics. Washingtons BS is not that entertaining. Black had faked his death, but Patterson hardly makes him act like it even matters, not in keeping with him faking it! He gets to this near the end with a mention. Overall it was ok, I do like how Patterson writes, just think it could be so much more. 4.5

What is the truth? Who really knows?

An intriguing story of our national security in the form of CIA etc. Keeps you guessing as to how all these secrets are known to both sides of the game. It is hard to figure out who is lying, & who isn't. The innocent & guilty sometimes die.

starting a new series

Finding a scientist while you are dead can take some time but in the end the truth comes out. The main character is searching for a scientist while trying to find out what happened to his dad, an evil senator, a boss who seems ok and a reporter that wants the scope of the year but doesn’t report it when she gets it.

An intriguing story and series

This was an extremely complex story with many different perspectives, depending on which character you choose to believe. It's another tangled mess that Firestone is right in the middle of, but one you certainly won't want to miss.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

Love the intrigue, mystery and “game” of secrets, lies and even death. This book will keep you riveted while you read about government intelligence, foreign interference and how it all works in our daily lives (at least in this authors views). Amazing writing and great story-line.

Good, not great.

Overall I enjoyed the story. It was slow in spots, but had a decent amount of intrigue and action. It was an easy read, but easy to put down. It was good enough to give the next book in the series a shot.

Another Excellent Read

R.J. Patterson has done it again! The plot is well written with the story line moving along quickly. There Is just enough evidence regarding a conspiracy to start the next book.

Excellent book. Full of suspense without all the flowery descriptors on landscape, etc! Down to the meat of the story. Oh and there are plenty of twists you won’t see coming. Great book! Great series. On to book 3 The Commander

Much as I tried, just not a fan. The writing style is simplistic, characters don't have real depth, action is not creative, and the plot was predictable and not compelling.

Not as good as the last Titus Black. In this one he and his partner Shields rescue a man who eventually wants to take down their boss and Titus.

Entertaining and fun to read. The action is fast-paced and the story moves along quickly. This writer does not get bogged down with page after page of detail as do some writers. (Does it really require 3 pages to describe the buttons on a shirt?) For me, I am intrigued by Titus Black. He is just mysterious enough to compel me to see where and how he will be dealing with his next mission.

This book was another quick read. There is a plot line that carries over from book 1, so it's best to start from the beginning. I am going to guess that there'll be a storyline that carries throughout the whole series. More questions than answers at this point re: Blunt and the stuff that occurred in the past. Hope #3 sheds some light on things, though.

Note: Amputee and hacker tags for Titus' partner, Christina Shields.

Titus Black, Christina Shields and J. D. Blunt are back on board with new missions and problems to solve. Titus is charged with finding and rescuing Dr. Aaron Matthews whose top secret work has vanished along with him. The search for Dr. Matthews continues throughout this story. In his search Black is confronted with a man, Antoine, that used to work for Blunt but has gone rogue and is intent on killing Blunt. They also spar with each other throughout this story. In the hunt for Dr. Matthews a super secret ultrasonic device is manufactured and ends up in the hands of Antoine. I won’t say what happens so this story isn’t spoiled for you but murder and corruption run rampant and it all comes together in the end. This book is full of political intrigue involving Congressmen and Senators mainly trying to discredit Blunt. It’s a great book with great characters and a plot that keeps you on your toes. Read and enjoy!

Action Central

Titus Black finds himself caught in a political fight between two rivals while trying to find a missing scientist. To top things off, a former Russian agent is doing his best to kill Black’s boss JD Blunt. Black gets turned around by conflicting stories about Blunt, his late father and the agency he works for. Black ends up pretending to be dead because the US president turns on Black since he harbours a hatred of Black, believing he is responsible for hiss son’s death. Many twists and turns and sub-plots keep the action flowing. Enjoy!
