PhD 101: The Manual To Academia

Some people thrive in their PhDs, other people just survive (and many don’t survive). Do you want to learn how to thrive in your PhD? Then, you need to understand Academia.

PhD students struggle to understand all the different aspects of Academia, from writing international journal articles, to writing a literature review that will speed you to your completion. Then, when it comes time to write their theses, they struggle with that as well.

Dr. John Hockey – the best PhD mentor in the business – along with Dr. Sandeep Gupta, deeply explain all the various aspects of Academia for PhD students. They teach you:

What a PhD is

How to start your PhD

How to interact with your supervisors

What academic publications are

How to tell if a publication is respectable

How to conduct an excellent Literature Review
How to form “The Question” of your PhD
How to write an outstanding journal paper, and get it accepted
How to prepare and give a conference presentation that will make you stand out

How to make your name known in Academia

Together, Dr. Hockey and Dr. Gupta have almost 30 years of experience with PhDs. They distil their knowledge about the fundamental academic matters every PhD student faces. This knowledge is the difference between completing a PhD and not completing it – between having a much better career and not having a good career – between hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Dr. John Hockey has been involved with the PhD process for almost 20 years, from hopeful applicant, to PhD student, to recent graduate, to having his own PhD students, to designing PhD programs.

He got his PhD in 3.5 years instead of the national average of 8.2 years.

He was able to do so by understanding the PhD system and academia.

Since finishing his PhD, he has worked around the world at internationally acclaimed Universities. He has had PhD students from all different countries, and backgrounds, and successfully advised them to completion.

His knowledge of the academic system is world renowned.

He's the best in the business.

Dr. Sandeep Gupta has been working with the PhD process for over 10 years, helping students complete their PhDs, and becoming Doctors sooner.

His research includes how to jumpstart PhD students and give them boosts to achieve earlier in their degrees.

Very informative

I feel like this will be my bible when I get into the program. I've learned so much about what goes on within a PhD program and don't feel overwhelmed by the information. Of course every school and program is different but it informs you of the basics. I will definitely keep this book handy when the time comes. Hope this helps current and future students to survive the PhD programs
