I'll never forget the first time someone called me 'trash.'
I was 13, and it was my own father. I guess I should've expected it, since Mom said I was a mistake for as long as I remember. I've been underestimated by everyone, from my ex-husband to my college instructor, who never thought I'd pass his EMT courses. When I first applied for the Fire Academy, I was laughed out the door, probably because my resume listed my employer as "Cherry Girls Gentlemen's Club."
I figure, people will doubt you. Let them. Just don't doubt yourself.
I got into the academy and passed with flying colors, and I just got my uniform as one of Boston's finest. I'm only a provisional firefighter, but when I make it through the trial period, I'll have my dream. The only thing standing in my way is the scorching attraction I feel towards my lieutenant—who is hands off because of the job.
Life isn't fair. Will the first good relationship I've ever experienced mean the end to my dream?
THE FIRE INSIDE SERIES Book 1 – Dare Me Book 2 – Defy Me Book 3 – Burn Me
The word choice is several places is really odd, there are a couple typos, and this woman (Timms) had used the word 'snickered' too much, I think she's trying to use subliminal messaging to make me crave a Snickers.
The heroine has repetetive thoughts, and the hero is a stereotypical 'alpha male' (over 6 ft tall, has vivid daydreams of the heroine "choking"-Timms' word not mine- on his eggplant within minutes of meeting her, is possessive of the heroine's body like she's a toy he hasn't gotten around to buying, and he has the inexplicable desire to maim any guy who's harmed the heroine in the past, though again he's. just. met. her.) . Nothing wrong with real fiction alpha male, but this one feels like a cheap imitation, like Timms just repeated what she read in other romance books without giving her character dimension.
I had to stop reading after the interview ended. I have to tell myself that such blatant examples of sexism in the work place don’t occur in real life because otherwise I'd get very angry and hurl my tablet against the wall. The men are too condescending in this book for me to remain interested.
I read a short preview, so I knew to go in with very low expectations. But it sounded like it would be funny, even though that’s definitely not the intended vibe. It was just bad. There are so many mundane details and everything is thought out to the extreme in such a boring, unnecessary way. The characters are completely flat. I normally don’t leave such negative reviews on the off chance the author comes across it, and I get that writing is hard and reviews are subjective. But this book had no ending!! It literally just stopped. I thought there must have been a misprint and there were missing pages. That’s how much it just stopped short with absolutely no rhyme or reason. It looks like there is a sequel that picks up where this book stops, but generally an author at least FINISHES the first book before starting the second one.
I was hooked from the beginning! I loved this story and cannot wait to see how the trilogy comes together! I had to buy the last 2 books as soon as I finished this one! I loved the story of Ash, a single mother who is trying to make her was as the only female firefighter in her house. I so badly want Wes to be the hero that she deserves! ( Notice I didn’t say “needs”! Because this girl is the bad ass we all want to be and I truly believe she will find her way with or without Wes....I just want so badly for someone to step up for her!). This was my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed her plot, the dialogue, the characters, and their interaction with each other. I can’t wait to read more from her!
Wow! Ash and Wes definitely brought the heat!I loved how protective he was of Ash when she first started at the firehouse. I love that she’s a firefighter and that she starting to fit in with everyone. They have this connection that makes you want to root for them. Can’t wait to see more of Ash and Wes! 🔥❤️
Well. I just didn't/don't care. Got to the end of the book, and realized it's tied *DIRECTLY* into the next one ~ the story does not end; this is NOT a standalone ~ you're stuck with all three books if you want the story to end. I did not purchase ~ not will I ~ the remaining books (#2 & #3) because, as I mentioned initially, I truly don't care. I know that the author will 'get them together' because that's the way these work, but I'm not invested in the characters. At all.
Additionally, there were silly errors ~ like at the beginning of the book "...she walked away, dark hair swinging ..." and by the middle/end, her "... blonde hair fell past her shoulders ...". REALLY? What kind of editors/proofreaders/beta readers don't catch these errors? It seemed Lexy Timms was just kinda goin' thru the motions on this one . . . . sadly. But I'm not interested enough to care what happens next. I'm walking away . . . with my own dark brown hair . . .
I was enjoying this book and the relationship Wes and Ash were beginning to explore, when a situation occurs and the book ends abruptly. If I want to see what happens, then I have to buy the next book. I won’t be. There are too many authors out there that give you a complete story with an additional book available to see what the next chapter of their life will be. I buy many of those. This book is just unfinished.
Another of Lexy Timms’ first of three. Some things are resolved, it a lot are left for the next book. Story is reasonably good but there are a number of errors.
