We are just friends. I swear.

When I meet my best friend’s brother, Tuck, there is an instant connection, but the timing is all wrong. He’s on the rebound and I am about to graduate and move away.

So we will just be friends. Close friends. Friends who sometimes share a bed and maybe do more than sleep…

But I can’t get emotionally attached. Not when I’m moving back home soon. Home to my new job, my family, and where Wes is waiting for me. Besides, everyone knows Wes is who I’m going to marry. Right?

I remember loving to be your girl so I was so excited to pick up the next book in the series.
I binged the first 50% of it in one sitting cause I couldn't stop. I am IN LOVE with Tuck. He is so hot and sexy, but super sweet and considerate. I loved Court. She was independent, sex positive, and secure in herself. I loved the depiction of their relationship, how it was a slow burn, and the sex scenes were HOOOOOOTTTTTTTTT.
The book took a slight turn for me at around 80ish%. I felt like the plot twist (will go into spoilers later) was extremely predictable and unnecessary and low key ruined the book for me. I for sure thought this was going to be a 5 star read. I loved that it was a realistic relationship, that they both continued to sleep around a bit, the sex, the long distance, it all was amazing. But like I said, the ending ruined it for me WAHHH IM SAD.
Ok into the spoilers:

The more I think about this the more unsure I am about my initial 4 star rating. Maybe more like 3.75* now!? - I’m just having trouble imaging any woman reacting as Court did, so bloody civilised!! I don’t care what the circumstances are. He married another woman. He didn’t choose you. He didn’t even seemingly put up a fight for you. Personally, not sure there’s any coming back from that. The ending was just...really rushed. Not saying I didn’t like the ending but it should’ve been more fleshed out, there should’ve been more...

Also, just have to say it, I really hate the title 🙄 but the sexy times were well written 😉 overall, I didn’t get the same feels as To Be Your Girl but it was still and enjoyable read.

This is the second book in the series. I was excited to see there would be a second book in this series and especially excited it would be about Tuck and Court. Their relationship wasn’t meant to be anything other than friends but after countless hang outs friendship blurred into something more. What is Court going to do, she’s almost done school and has the perfect job lined up..... with the perfect man waiting or so she thought he was her perfect man.

Tuck is going through a tough heartbreak and doesn’t think he will find the one until Court enters the picture. She is beautiful and the opposite of Tuck and she is just what he needs. Only problem, Tuck only knows serious and Court is here for a good time not a long time....... This book is a definite must read!!!

Ehhh no nop....

Okk, I'm actually so upset that this book went so downhill for me 😢

Let's start from the beginning...

I was so nervous to pick this up. We first get introduced to these characters in the first book of the series. I LOVED Court in the first book, I liked her more than I liked Haley tbh. But I found Tuck to be extremely irritating, and I was nervous that I would also hate him in this book. That wasn't the case... for the first 80% of the book.

Tuck really grew on me. He was sweet and charming and HOT. I loved him with Court, I was shipping them SO MUCH. I loved their relationship, so much so that I genuinely thought this was going to be my new favourite romance novel. Also, the smutty scenes... omg 🥵 I BINGED the first half of the book, like I finished this whole book in one day. I was obsessed.

Then I reached around 80% of the book, when the plot twist happened (I'll go into more detail and into spoilers later). That plot twist did NOT need to happen. I'm so sad because honestly up until that point, this was going to be a 5 star book for me. That last chunk of the novel really let the whole story down. I can't even explain how disappointed I am 😭😭

SPOILERS: DON'T READ ON AFTER THIS POINT IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK

Okay, the plot twist... Tuck's BABY.

I HATED how Tuck immediately drops Court the minute he finds out he's going to be a father. I understand him wanting to spend time with his son since his own father is dead, but to break up with Court??? Was he not aware that Co-Parenting is a thing?? AND THEN TO MARRY THE OTHER WOMAN?!?! The audacity ✋😭 (can you tell I'm actually really upset at how quickly this book went downhill). Not only did he MARRY the other women, he rejects Court after she literally tells him she will leave everything for him and then he divorces Ali and gets back together with Court.... i have so many questions.

Why did Court get back together with him, she deserves so much better. Also, why did she say she would leave everything for him?? Where is her self-respect? 😩 She is worth so much more. Tuck messed with Court's emotions so much, by the end I honestly lost all respect for him. I mean, even him sleeping with Ali is a BIG no. Tuck and Court weren't together, but if he can jump back into bed with his ex that quickly... it shows a lot about what kind of guy he is.

This book declined so fucking quickly, I'm shook. I was genuinely preparing for this to be a new fave. I'm so disappointed.

Tantita dignidad.

UGHHHHHH FRUSTRATION!!!! This was so close to being 5 stars! So so so so close!!! Everything about it was so great. I loved the pacing and the writing. I loved the chemistry between Court and Tuck. I loved how sweet their relationship was and how it had a sweet slow start. They grew as friends first and I loved that. I love that even as friends, he would chase her a little. What made me drop a star was for the same reasons as the first book. Unnecessary drama. I understand needing some drama and there already was with the long distance relationship and Wes in the picture and when Ali showed up that one time but the ending plot twists killed it. The author's just lucky that I really loved Tuck that it didn't completely ruin this book for me.

We already knew Tuck from the first book and I honestly love him more than Cade. There's just the sweeter, boyish, good guy aura about him. Not that Cade wasn't sweet but literally Tuck said was sweet. When he broke it off with Court because of the baby, even that was sweet. I couldn't even be mad at him lol. And the plans that he had for him and Court, ughhhh be still my heart. The way he takes care of his little sister and how he prides himself of it *cries*. I know a lot people would be made about his decision to marry his ex because of the baby but I don't know, I liked it. He's old-fashioned and that just adds to his sweetness. He just wanted to do right by the baby, sacrifice for the baby, even if it meant him not being with Court. It just broke my heart cause it's a hard decision. When we find out about his plans with Court, my heart broke too. I legit enjoyed his character. I didn't like Court at first cause it did feel like she was stringing him along but she got better for me.

As for the baby mama drama. Ughhh so not necessary in the book! It ruined the pacing cause then it rose as a problem so fast and then solved so fast. The ending became anticlimactic because of it. It made you dislike Ali (not that I liked her to begin with). It had Court asking Wes out. It was just all kinds of wrong. The book would've been 5 stars if this whole thing didn't happen. We already had drama, why add more?!?!?

Originally: 3/5 (somewhat predictable)
Spice: 5/5🌶️🥵

This was a fun and quick read. If you are looking for a book with loads of spice, you have found it. I promise there is plot, but the spice is spicing.

The ending was slightly predictable but I still found myself gasping, shocked, and in tears while reading the last 20% of the book. There were a few editing errors, but not too much that you cannot look past it.

At first I was skeptical about the chemistry between the main two love interest, but was definitely swayed. Tuck adored the ground that Court walked on and he was so charming.

I do recommend this book if you’re looking for a cute quick read with some added spice.

Original review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Rae Kennedy!

To Be Your Wife
is the second book in the To Be Yours series and tells the story of Court and Tuck. Even though this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

I really liked the first book, To Be Your Girl, and when I read about Court and Tuck, I just had to know their story. I’m so happy that I read To Be Your Wife because it was such a good sequel! I enjoyed reading about Court and Tuck and they’re just so cute!

Court and Tuck are so cute together. I couldn’t stop reading about them because I just couldn’t stop smiling the entire time. I love the best friend’s older brother trope, and the romance is somewhat slow burn which is a plus as well. And the dirty talk?! Damn…

To Be Your Wife was such a fast-paced read and it was hard to put this book down! I also really liked that we got to see bits of Haley and Cade's story through someone else's eyes! I cannot wait for the next book in the To Be Yours series!

Despite not liking the first book, I did continue this series because I was curious about the characters (sometimes it do be like that).

I wanted to know who Court was going to end up with. I was pleasantly surprised by how much more I enjoyed this in comparison! There is an overlap in timeline between Haley x Cade’s third act and the first introduction of Court into Tuck’s life, so the initial events that we see are a bit repetitive, as we’d already seen it played out in the first book. However, we get to see it from Court’s perspective and I actually really liked her as an FMC.

There’s a sense of restlessness to her character that I could relate to, especially as a fellow insomniac who sleeps just fine when someone else is in bed with her, lol. I liked the start to Court and Tucker’s relationship—there’s a seriousness to both of them that I think made them a good fit, but a goofy enough side to also balance it out. Tuck in particular had a cute, wholesome, good boy energy about him that I really enjoyed. It was almost Golden Retriever energy but not quite. He’s got the responsible older brother aura down pat, but I also liked how much he loved and cared for his sister Haley and how he kept showing up for Court.

Their relationship was more of a slow-burn than I anticipated but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t full of pining and ***so much sexual tension***. It was so thick at times you could cut through it with a knife! I think Kennedy does a good job keeping readers engaged and keen to see when they’ll actually get together or do something beyond ‘platonic’ cuddling.

I also really enjoyed getting to know Court’s family and seeing how well Tucker fit into that family life, once he came out of “hiding” and started helping out and hanging around. It was clear that he missed having a father figure around and he found that through Court’s father. They developed a sweet bond that I thought was very heartwarming, considering that he never had a relationship with his father after he passed so young.

The third act also wasn’t as painful as in the first book with their ridiculous back and forth that made absolutely zero sense and could’ve been overcome with discussion. I’m guessing this is going to be a trend though with Kennedy’s books where instead of actually communicating thoughts and feelings and decisions, one party (usually the MMC) makes a final cutting decision and that’s that. It’s pretty frustrating, gives me the ick, and it’s just like… So typically NA? Still, this was markedly better than the first!

PISSED!

The book started off well enough. The heroine was pretty strong and she wasn't some shy virgin. The hero was the one that preferred serious relationships and he was pretty refreshing...not super alpha or possessive.. Everything past 54% was a waste of time.

1st issue came into play when the couple separated because the heroine was going to move back to her hometown. Hero slept with ow (his ex) and when heroine came to his house, she saw the girl there. She left, then hero followed her to her parents' house and apologized for sleeping with other woman. (I had an issue with this, but wasn't really pressed since they were not together and the heroine had slept with om in the book. What I had a problem with was the heroine taking him back right there and sleeping with him when he had been inside another woman just hours before.

Fast forward months later, the ex tells the hero she is pregnant with his child. The hero leaves the heroine even though he was planning on proposing to her and moving to her hometown. He moves in with the other woman and they get married. She even begs to be with the hero. She says she will give up everything to be with him like her job, house, and family...WTF!!!! Meanwhile the heroine does not move on at all. When she tries to, the hero shows up around 90% and asks to be with the heroine and she takes him back just like that. Turns out the baby was not his....

This author actually wrote a heroine with no self respect. No character growth at all. No one grew, they both got worse.

It was ok….

Spoilers in this review***
I struggle with these series of books so far. I found the same with this one as I did with the first, the characters are just so wishy washy. It’s like the drama is written in the books for just the sake of drama and just ticking boxes for what makes a story..

For example…Courtney (for no real reason) breaks it off with Tuck. She walks away for two weeks and then out of the blue goes back to him to find he has slept with his ex girlfriend. Then Tuck and Courtney get back together and then this rendezvous with his ex comes back to bite him later as it’s turns out she’s pregnant. He then leaves Courtney, marries his ex and breaks Courtneys heart.
I do like the first person POV and the style of writing and they are well written. I just find the characters very shallow…

I understand Tuck wanting to do the right thing but I feel like Courtney forgave him too quickly. To bring more depth to the characters I feel like there should’ve been a longer period of making him wait and making it up to her. At the end of the day he broke her heart and didn’t fight for them.
The reasoning behind his decisions doesn’t negate the fact that he walked away and she just forgave him so easily. Also how could he get married to Ali and not reveal to her that he had a girlfriend and only split up with her because of the pregnancy. Like I said, it just makes the writing and characters seem shallow and gaps in the story. Such a shame. I will continue to read the rest of the books though, as I like the writing style and find they flow easily.
I read a lot of these genre of books and although some have similar story lines I think other writers make the drama seem more palatable because of the character development and dialogue. I hope the author writes other books after this series though as I would like to see how much more depth any further characters may have.

Courtney meets Tucker her best friends brother as she makes a dash from a disastrous date. Tuck has just broken up with his girlfriend and is drowning his sorrows. They have fun drinking tequila and dancing, until he passes out and needs to be taken home.

Weeks later they meet again, although he doesn't remember her. However, as his sister has just broken up with her boyfriend (Tuck's doing) she is there to help Haley. A friendship forms between them, laughing at the same jokes and enjoying each others company. She stats over one night (just to sleep) and has the best nights sleep she's had all semester.

They fall into a pattern of going to bed together and running in the mornings. Along the way they are forced to acknowledge their growing feelings for each other, however, Court is moving back home to start a new job. Can they make a long distance relationship work? What obstacles lay in their path?

So I liked both Court and Tucker from book one! Court is the friend you want around cause she's loyal and fun. Tucker got thrown into a position that I'm sure he wasn't ready for. I was hoping we'd learn a little more but that didn't happen. I liked how Court and Tucker start out. It was a smart move. Both were focused on their job/finishing college and coming off a break up. They needed to be friends in this case. They took to this so well that I was starting to question whether or not they were gonna get together as a couple. Court and Tucker were adorable together! They had some ups and major downs but they knew they loved each other and made it work. My one complaint throughout this series is why we don't have a male point of view in these. I feel like it would add so much more to the story especially during certain times. This was a great book despite that!

Rae Kennedy did not make me cry in the pool reading on my Kindle.... no wait, she absolutely did. She hit me right in the feels; grabbed my heart, squeezed it and threw it on the floor... then picked it up and stitched it back together.

Wow. I absolutely LOVED this. I cannot get enough of Court and Tuck and what made it better is Court's casual approach to sexual relationships unlike most romance you read where everything is totally monogamous. Really refreshing and the spice was everything.

A lot of the twist reminded me of Sex/Life, a show I'm obsessed with and although I hated how that all went down, it mirrored a lot of what happened here so it made my heart ache more.

If I were to say one thing that I didn't like about this and her novels is that some elements are rushed or brushed over too quickly. There are time jumps or scenarios you want to see a scene out or conflict but we just glaze over it and I think the novel could benefit from being longer in that respect. Otherwise, it didn't detract too much from my enjoyment.

Damn, I wish I could get more from these two but I love this series so much. Deffo a fave!!

I liked this book more than the first.
I completely fell in love with Tuck for her chivalry and charisma. From the beginning always pending Court, respecting her and winning her love little by little with tenderness and many details.
Court at first angered me for her stubbornness but once she gave her the opportunity they were a wonderful couple and I loved how the family integrated her completely as one of them.
During the separation I had a very bad time. I did not see a reconciliation possible but luckily the bad boy reconsidered and despite them they helped her.
A great and beautiful love story and how far you are willing to go to be with the person you love.

I totally have read this series out of order but the good thing is that they can be read as standalones. This is Court and Tuck's book, a sort of best friend's brother trope with the sweetest scenes and just so easy to read.

Tuck is on a rebound, and Court is moving away soon, so they think whatever they have is just for the moment and that's it. Tuck is into serious relationships and Court is the opposite, which was so refreshing to read, and generally they are very opposite as characters which made this even more endearing to read.

Hero did the heroine so wrong and was so stupid. I was in love with the developing relationship between H and h during the first half of the book, but OMG, heroine became such a needy thing. After a lengthy breakup that broke both their hearts, he shows up out of the blue and she just says "okay" to getting back together. No grovel, no apology, no making it up to her. Just boom. Here's my stuff and I'm back to stay. And don't get me started on Tucker just taking his ex's word for it that the baby is his so he married her and just left. Argh. Doormat heroine syndrome?

This book was good. I like the slow burn at the beginning, but there were a few things that I didn’t enjoy.
1. The characters don’t have a lot of depth, especially Tuck. He seems like a nice dude, but who IS he? This book would benefit from dual POV.

2. After they get together, this is basically nothing but sexy times and the plot disappears.

3. Unnecessary drama at the near end - just for the sake of drama.

Holy roller coaster!

Court and Tuck’s story was perfect. I won’t elaborate so as to not add spoilers, but their relationship is one that I think everyone might experience once in their life if they let it. That person that you just can’t keep your hands off and love being with constantly.

I can’t wait for the 3rd book in the series to come out! If you’ve not read To Be Your Girl, go back and read that before reading this one, then come and and read this one!

To Be Your Wife is book two in the To Be Yours series and each book can be read as a standalone. This is about Tuck and Court. Tuck is on the rebound and Court is going to be graduating and leaving town. She knows where her life is headed and who she is supposed to end up with or does she? Do you settle for small town living and who you are expected to be with or do you explore your life and live it to the fullest? It is eye opening and you will feel the emotions each character experience.

I absolutely love Tuck and adore Court. The chemistry was amazing! But the end kinda of took me by surprise and hit me hard in not really the best way? Tuck spent the whole book saying how he would do anything to make it work and fight for her always and then just gave up the relationship without fighting at all. And then the way they got back together was just kind of abrupt and unrealistic. I still enjoyed it overall.

Loved it

I loved every bit of this book. From the previous read I had wanted to read Courtney's story and as the previous read it was a joy to read. Tuck and Court makes sense and the build up of their love and romance was just as exciting to read as their love itself. A fab read. Loved it.

Picking up amidst the first book, this story follows supporting characters that I hoped it would by the end of book #1. I wanted them to get together and through a slow burn, it finally happens. After a roller coaster of a plot twist that nearly broke my heart, I was thrilled by the ending even if a part of me was still sad. Highly recommend!
