Time Into Time #3

A Love For the Moment

Rate this book
Long distance relationships are never easy, even these days. Imagine what it is like if the object of your affections is more than two hundred years in the past.
Cassie Lawrence has twice found herself falling into the arms of Lucian Franklin, Earl of Radcliffe - in the year 1807. As though loving a Georgian nobleman isn't hard enough for a modern woman, Cassie's arrival seems to coincide with mayhem and murder - and this third adventure into the past is no different. Who killed the inn keeper - and was he a blackmailer who held the secret of the parentage of Luc's enigmatic henchman, Garrick? There is no shortage of suspects for the murder, from doctors to vicars, vengeful widows and apparently respectable gentleman. But, murder aside, does Garrick really want to discover who his father is - when it might turn out to be someone very close indeed to Lucian?
Cassie does her best to apply her training as a volunteer Special Constable to the crime scene - distracted by the burgeoning romances of two of her favourite people and her own, seemingly hopeless, love for Luc.

I have had my nose buried in a history book - fact or fiction - for as long as I can remember, but even more important to me are the places and the objects that conjure up the past. My first attempt at historical fiction at the age of eight was three pages of improbable medieval drama set in the local castle.

With a degree in geography and archaeology I love to try and 'read' the landscape and the buildings in it for clues about the past. Virtually any place can trigger ideas for plots, but I am particularly inspired by Venice, Burgundy, Mediterranean islands and the Hertfordshire and Norfolk countryside.

I live in England in a village in Bedfordshire with my long-suffering husband. He is not sure whether to be flattered or alarmed to be told he is the inspiration for all my romantic heroes! Whenever possible we escape to our cottage on the North Norfolk coast where Percy, the bossy pheasant, allows us to share the garden.

My resolution every time I start on a new plot is to plan it carefully, make copious notes first and write lots of drafts in a disciplined and orderly manner. What inevitably happens is that the story starts to write itself in my head until it gets completely out of control - meanwhile my study floor becomes a sea of open books, prints and maps and I am found sitting in the car at traffic lights, muttering dialogue. At that point I have to start writing, knowing full well that the hero and heroine are going to take over and sabotage all my attempts at discipline. It is, after all, their story.

There are some books that you wait on pins, and needles till the next in the series arrives. One of my dear friends refer to me as the queen of reading. I am sure their are other readers, who read strictly non-fiction books, or are into other forms, of teaching great literature. I am past that time in life, and I read for the excitement, emotion, thrilling danger, or romance, and it takes me places I have never been. This book, like the others , in this series does all that. Cassandra, and Lucian, James, Garrik, and others, that I have come to love, and follow through each well written mystery, and love story, takes me on a time slip journey , to the early 1800's. Cassie who is our explorer through the myst of magic, and time is written perfectly , for her character. She can be snarky, yet also fit into the proper persona of a woman from that age, unless she makes an error, and those who know her story by now, rush to smooth it over. She loves them all, and goes back when she is needed most. Luc, and Cassie, are so perfect together, as he tries to stretch to let her into the danger of the problems, since she is also a London part time police officer, and has worked in a hospital as well. She in turn understands that as Lord of the manor, so to speak, he can only stretch so far. I love how those in the know work out the mysteries, filled with dangerous twists, and funny turns. The dry humor is especially enjoyed. I only have two wishes, that she could spend a little more time, after they solve the case, and that the next book was already written, and flying through time to a near by book store. I adore these books, and pray for many black boxes, in my future. The ending was emotional, and gave me hope for another visit to special friends in the early 1800's. I love that Cassandra has one foot in both time frames, and she makes little excited errors at times. I would too, digging into a mystery, plus visiting London, and all the small towns, pubs, and history. The country homes that Jane Austen would someday be famous for writing about, in their future, and having Luc, and his love, and family along for the ride, oh yes , I'm sure I'd make a few errors, no matter how perfect I would hope to behave.. Those of us who lovingly give out 5 stars, realize the errors, and are laughing right along with these characters, that we love. This is the perfect escape.....5 stars......

-This is the third story of Cassie Lawrence, who periodically finds herself thrown to 200 years in the past. It’s initiated, again, by a miniature ceramic portrait of Luc, an English Lord, from which heat begins to emanate. Just as she is drawn to Luc, he finds himself drawn to her and he even senses when she’s near as, in one of the passages, when she asked how he knew she had walked into the room, he states that “‘I always know’. He rubbed one hand up and down his breastbone. ‘I feel you here.’”
-It was whenever there was some sort of trouble that Luc was encountering, that Cassie would fall back in time and this was no different. Luc’s trusted servant, who seemed like a close friend at times, was missing. Giles Garrick had received a letter and had left for an unknown destination, without informing anyone of his departure. This was most unlike his character and caused great concern for Luc. Garrick, as well as Luc’s brother, James, were all entrusted with the secret that Cassie was from the future, which was evidence of the closeness that both brothers felt for Garrick. They knew that just as Garrick would do anything to help them, they must now do the same for him.
-This now began as a search as to where he could have gone and there were several options but he was ultimately found. But with the discovery of where he went, they became involved in uncovering a mystery that they had to solve in the present time, but one that had its source decades earlier.
-It’s a complicated journey that leads to many loose ends, which is actually more realistic as solutions rarely present themselves too easily. The relationship between Luc and Cassie deepens and more people become aware of where she’s from. Though the story line is well done, at times I found it necessary to re-read certain parts to better follow what was happening.
-All in all, it was an enjoyable read with a great deal of background regarding Garrick’s past, and an evolving story line as to how he will interact with Luc and Cassie in the future.

A Love For the Moment (Book 3) By Louise Allen

Five stars, good murder mystery.. This series gets better after each book.. Cassie again goes back to 1807 to help Luc solve a murder.. Close friend is heavily involved.. And it does what was interesting its getting more with their doom affair.. That at the end Cassie goes back in her time and through a accident Luc comes through.. Although Cassie immediately gets him back to his own time.. And she meets someone in her time, they start dating.. Interesting

Another good book

This is a continuation of the first two books. Cassie and Luc return. Cassie is the time traveler and Luc is her romance in the past. As in previous books there is a mystery to solve before Cassie returns to the present.

Regency time travel

A delightful series combining Regency, romance, mysteries, and time travel—all among my favorite things. I look forward to reading the next two.

I do love the Franklins, all of them. This adventure takes the characters out of London and the rural setting is so well described, it's as if the reader is there as well. This time the tale deals with Garrick and his history. Not to put in a spoiler, let it suffice to say it's complicated, satisfying and with perhaps a surprise ending.
And, oh, joy! There will be more stories. Soon, I hope.
