You’ll love this suspenseful Urban Fantasy because survival is the ultimate battle.
This is book three of the TalentBorn series and continues to follow Anna and Scott as they continue their fight against AbGen and its leader Dr Pearce. Scott used to work for them using his talent (or gift) to locate other absa’s, those genetically modified to have gifts. When he located Anna and brought her to AbGen he soon began to realise that they weren’t necessarily doing everything for good and that Dr Pearce was imprisoning some gifted people and doing horrific experiments on them. Scott was Anna’s mentor and they both managed to get away and take some of their friends with them.
The last book saw Scott taken again by Dr Pearce and infected with a deadly virus. Upon rescuing him, this book then starts, as they try to find a cure for him, amongst the safety of the Ishmaelians, a counter group to AbGen for all those with gifts. Anna’s power is to be able to teleport herself and at times another, from one place to another, but this takes a lot of energy out of her and can’t be repeated as often as needed. Dr Pearce has managed to stop her powers before by having EM (Electro Magnetic) dampers to stop her powers from working. He still wants her for her specific talent and will do anything he can to get her.
The fact no-one can cure Scott and he is likely to die in less than two weeks, leaves Anna to make the ultimate sacrifice for his recovery and offer herself up to Pearce, in exchange for an antidote to cure Scott. Whether she can trust Pearce to keep his word and leave a cure for her friends to take back to their hideout, is unclear, but she is being left with no other options! The leader of the Ishmaelians is reluctant to let their group do anything to find a cure, and wants them to do what he wants them to do, for the whole of the Ishmaelians group. Amongst Anna’s group are those who are normal humans, with no powers, and they aren’t very welcome by this leader!
Whether Anna can find a way to save her boyfriend Scott, without sacrificing her own life, is hard to tell and one thing she will need to do, is try and stay true to her own beliefs and to herself. There is a mole within the Ishmaelians and everyone is being put in danger until they can be discovered. The actions of one will lead Anna and her friends to take action and this will also impact on her well-being in the near future, without her realising so. Parts of the book deal with torture and aspects of imprisonment, so please be aware. It is integral to what happens and is well written. I have loved each book in this series and there is always someone else discovered, with a new power, to add to the tale. I look forward to the next book and to seeing who can be saved and whether Dr Pearce will finally get all that he deserves. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This urban fantasy series just keeps getting better and better with each book and this latest addition is even better. Well written and brimming with sass and snark we follow Anna as she tries to save Scott. There’s action, suspense, magic and as with the other books I just could not put this down!
You can run from most things… …But death isn’t one of them. Not even when you can teleport. When Scott is infected with a deadly virus, Anna has her answer. Pearce says he has the cure, but can he be trusted? After all, he’s the one who infected Scott in the first place. This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.

If you read my reviews for the first two books you will know that I gave five stars to the first volume and three to the second. As I explained before, the plot to this book is excellent, the writing is very well done, and the characters are believable. Unfortunately, having now read three volumes, I can unhappily say that this series is one book in multiple volumes. I do not recommend reading it without the others or reading them before the series is finished.
This book had you wanting to know what was going to happen next. You probably will cry in parts. Scott is dying and they can’t find a cure. Anna is beside herself? Can the doctor find a cure? What will Anna do to save Scott? An her friends help?
