When I walked into Grimmstead Academy that first day, I never imagined the horror waiting for me within.
Each and every soul living under its roof is broken and lost, from the stern and serious Lucien to the students. Ian and his smooth overconfidence, Dagen and his anxious paranoia, Payne and his fascination with all things blood, and Koda and his smiles—and of course, who could forget the murderous Bram?
Things are set to become even more twisted and dark. After I find out the truth, everything changes. This place won’t let any of us leave. We are pawns in its bloody, gruesome game.
What does it want? Submission, and giving into it might just be the last thing I do.
In Grimmstead, death is only the beginning.
GA: Submission is the second book in a planned RH trilogy; there is graphic violence along with steamy scenes. In this book there is also MM, so be warned.
Hey guys! I'm a writer, an office worker, a wife, a mother to two dogs and two cats, and half of a strange pair of young adults who flip the houses they're living in with the goal of having no mortgage (so that I can eventually focus on my writing career!). Needless to say, I'm busy.
Still, I somehow find time to write, to read, and to enjoy life. Wish there were more hours in the day, really!
If you're active on Goodreads and have similar interests, friend me. I don't bite. Or if you'd rather follow my reviews, you can do that, too.
I love this series. I am hating that there is only one more book left. It's like a more modern but not really retelling of the old classics sorta like Penny Dreadful SHOWTIME tv series. Only this is so much better! I even think I have some of them kinda figured out.
Below are my spoilers and speculations. . . . . . . . . . . . .
Ian - Dorian Gray
Payne - Dracula
Koda/Bram - Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde
Dagen - Werewolf????
Lucien - Frankenstein's monster
Victor - Frankenstein
Now the house... it's alive almost or maybe it exists outside time and space... not sure.
Midnight - I think is a physical manifestation of the house in cat form.
Felice - she's said to be the key. Maybe she is like Mina Harker if she were a pyro and a witch or something.
No idea.
But. I LOVE IT!

3.5 Stars This was a decent followup in the trilogy but I don't think I enjoyed it as much as book one. For some reason the blase sort of nature of the heroine kind of got to me. She basically takes everything in stride and really doesn't let it phase her. It was a bit weird especially with all that was going on. I get that she finally feels like she belongs somewhere but with all the crazy going on I'd at least expect some hesitation on her part. One thing I love is that she's a pyro. It's a bit off putting she feels no regret in who she hurts with her fires though. One such incident featuring an ex and his parents (all innocent parties) whose home she burnt to the ground with them inside after he blew off their date was shocking. It's a bit extreme for me but I do have a special place in my heart for crazy characters for some reason. Honestly I'm more concerned hoping she doesn't or hasn't caused any forest fires than I am about her losing her mind on one family---if that makes sense and doesn't make me look like a psycho also lol. The book picked right up after the end of the first and the heroine is still stuck on the property only in a different time somehow. It was a bit weird having her meet her men as kids but it really shed a lot of light into who and what they all are. I feel a bit vindicated in knowing some of my monster assumptions were correct but I'm still eager to see how it all plays out and what the end game will be. We get another decent sized cliffy and I'm assuming now will be the return of Victor. The man behind the creation of her men, like all the different bad parts of him in their own human bodies. The men don't like him but the heroine certainly does so I'm not sure how it all will play out but I'm ready to find out.
Damn this sexy horror show just keeps getting better! I have to admit I was confused by the beginning but when it clicked I was a little horrified. Victor has quite a bit of power for a dead guy and you definitely get a feeling that he's not rainbows and butterflies. The scariest part is the control the house has over Felice - it's beyond creepy. However, she sure did embrace those psychos rather well and who could blame her?!? The steam factor in this book was at 100%. Loving the story and these endings are driving me insane!
This is easily my new favorite series from Candace! Everything about this is unique, creative, and imaginative with a fun dark gothic twist to it. The entire world she has created within Grimmstead is captivating and I easily have found myself glued to the screen of my kindle as soon as I opened this book.
The characters and the house itself is probably my favorite about the whole series. Each character is the authors own twist on classic gothic characters and their tales. I’m still wondering who Felice’s character could be though or is she one of Candace’s own creations used to bring all these characters together. The house and the cat, Midnight, seem to be their own characters themselves which makes for an even more interesting read.
This series has earned a top spot in my “worthy of a re-read” list. I strongly urge anyone who wants to read a series that is unlike anything else out there, to give this series a try. I promise that you won’t regret it. It stands out among the rest of the RHs I have read recently.
This series is unlike any other I have read. It is such a dark and twisted ride that makes no sense but also makes perfect sense. The romance in this book is hot. There is a little m/m but it is easy to skip if that is not your thing. Big cliffhanger at the end that makes me excited for the next book.
This is dark and sweeping, stretching terrifying claws across time and the senses. Things make little sense, but there is a shadowy ambiance that keeps the pages turning. The relationships heat up, though there is still a decided lack of emotional connection between most.
All in all, it’s noir, gothic and creepy..... just what you want for this type of book.
Wow! The second book in the series submission was just wow. It was stunning, confusing, brilliant. I couldn’t put this down and I cannot wait to find out what happens next
I can’t express how much I love this series it has become my favourite from Candace and it’s a must read. The blood, gore and absolute crazy that happens in this book just leaves you on the edge wanting more. Felice and the guys all finally come together and it couldn’t be more hot especially with Ian and Dagen. The cliffhanger is a killer but totally worth it. I can’t wait for the next book.
***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*** OMG This book was amazing! When I first started reading the book book I was so confused and wondering what was going on! Just keep reading! I promise if you keep reading, you are going to fall in love with this series! Once you start to think you know what is going on, something happens and it makes you question everything. Everything I thought I was figuring out only left me with even more questions and wanting to know what happens. This is a dark Gothic type story that keeps you guessing. This book makes you question your sanity and manages to convince you to like them as characters. The way Candace Wondrak wrote this book was so creative and different. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series! If you have not given this book a try, please do and keep pushing through. You will see what I mean!
The story takes place as the aftermath of the bloodbath finale that happened in book one, and even though it gave us some background of the place, there seems to be a lot to find out. The characters proved to be exactly who I thought they were and I wasn't left disappointed by the revelations of their true-selves.
I didn't like this one quite as much as the first one, to be honest. Felice is still a "meh" MC and I continue to not care for her at all, her chapters are the most boring and I found myself not really wanting to see her POV at all.
The only reason I gave this book a five star is because the guys really are something special. I'm not that fond of Lucien and Victor per se, they are the least interesting of the bunch in my opinion, but Koda,Bram,Payne, Ian and Dagen are very interesting and I actually want to see more of them in the third book. If nothing else, they are the reason on why I will continue and finish the series.
Grimmstead the second book in the series and it’s a very dark twisted story and I have never read a book like it by OMG I loved it. Felice and her very hot sexy twisted men wow there are lots off steamy senses between them all and I have to say am loving Bram I hope he can behave when he is in control so he can have some fun lol.
Candace has created a world in which you expect the unexpected with charters that are intriguing in a twisted way as they all have there own fears and desire that they have to try and live with and the story pulls you in right from the start.
OMG what was with the end the cliffhanger is what can wait to see have happens next
I don't know that I loved this book but I do know that I didn't have it. It has taken me far to long to read as I just didn't feel so connected to it. I loved the first book so it's a shame not to have that same sort of love for this one. I am going to read book 3.I think I'm a little disappointed with the route the books taken. I could have happily done without the introduction of Victor and had a book that focused just on the 5 main characters, their flaws and how they could have been fixed. I am looking forward to 3 so hopefully I'll fall in love with it all over again.
Candice wondrack I love your wicked mind. This book like the last is amazing and dark that it sucks you right into it's dark depths and not want to let you go. In this book we see Felice start the book asleep but also awake at the same time. To understand you need to read I won't give the story away. To her following Midnight the cat into the basement at the end to end on the edge of a cliff. With many twists and turns and hot action to keep the book so alive and you totally gripped and needing the next book
I like the plot and mystery of Victor and the house. My only issue is it feels rushed. Half way through the book, Felice declared she could never leave the guys behind, I know she's been at the house for awhile now but I think there really needed to be more relationship building between her and the guys and a lot more dialogue between them. getting to know each other and spending time together. I also thing a lot of the inner monologue was repetitive. I do enjoy the story but think it could have used 50+ more pages to add depth to character development
I thought that the first book was utter brilliance but this second book surpasses it. Felice's relationships developing with the men in the house, as well as the strangeness of the mystery of Victor, the house, the heartbeat, the completely terrifying basement..... Urgh! I couldn't stop until I finished it and of course it ends on a cliffy bigger than the first! Love it love it. Holding out hope for book 3.....
Shut the front door! Ahhhhhh I fricken love this! So much mystery and hot sexy times! Dagen and Ian together in a bedroom? Gimme. I love Ian's quirky ways. I can't wait to see more of Dagen and Payne's personalities come to light. I'm intrigued by Koda, Bram and Victor. I need to know how Victor's character plays out and his role in the story. Oh and I can't forget Lucien. I loooove him.
This story is getting darker and better with every page turn. Wow. So this is book 2 and has to be read in order. I’ll admit it’s a confusing story if your not paying attention. Heck even if you are paying attention. But it’s sooo freaking good. I’m hoping the next book answers more questions cause this book blew my mind. I highly recommend this entire series. But be warned. It is a dark read. Looking forward to reading the next book
Book Two in this series really is a complete mindf**k. Candace has written a dark, psychological, completely mess with your mind series and this one takes you straight down that rabbit hole...and it’s mesmerising. Felice’s life just gets weirder with the men at Grimmstead spiralling into the depths of insanity - all in all, a really solid 5 star read, with the direction of book three wide open. Recommended.
This series gives me life. It’s so dark and twisty and HOT. I feared for my cardiovascular health multiple times while reading this book. Oh and the added M/M was the sweetest cherry on top. This book was everything I hoped it would be. I’ll be here for the next, Candace!
I loved getting to know the characters better. I’ll never get tired of each of them having their in POVs. The passion between them is like an erupting volcano and I could not get enough. The story is cloaked in mystery and there are many questions left to be answered. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
These cliffhangers are killing me! But in the best kind of way. Everyone in this book is some type of villain and there is a very thin line between loving to hate them or hating to love them. This is a fast paced steamy read that will keep you in the edge of your seat and a cliffhanger that has you screaming at your kindle lol.
I love how in the beginning of the book, we learned some things about the guys in the book. I liked the approach Candace used to tell the story. This book was great. Lots of heavy romance scene . Some MM. The book does end on a cliffhanger a bit . Waiting patiently for book 3 .
Wow, the pace in this series really picked up in this book. The first book totally messed with my mind. I had no idea what to expect at all. This book gets deeper into the different characters and the mystery that is Grimmstead. I really enjoyed this so much and after that ending I'm really looking forward to the next book!
Unusual but good read...don't know what's going to happen...I know I want Bram and the others as well as our heroin to be well...hope they all escape the evil...looking for book 3 now to find out what happens...give this a go people cos you'll not be disappointed.x
I fell head first into this book. Felice's story is engrossing, the characters fascinating, and the mystery... oh, the mystery! There is a cliffhanger ending. I can't wait for the last book in the trilogy!
A great installation in the Grimmstead series. This book Gives the characters more depth, sprinkles in some very hot scenes, and ads in a whole new dash of crazy.
This series just gets weirder and better. There is a Jekyll/Hyde character, Dorian Grey and a vampire (a nod to Dracula perhaps?) the mysterious Victor must be Frankenstein and Lucien his monster. I want to know who Dagen is! This ends on a cliffhanger

Brilliant read. Felice is stuck in the academy, a place that is not what it seems. Blood and murder is what she has found. But is that all thsf is waiting for her. Tye men that are contained behind these walls facinate Felice This was a great read. I cannot wait for book 3!
