I hadn't done well at keeping up with these as they came out, and ended up reading v. 42 and 43 back-to-back. I ordered this one as soon as I knew it had come out earlier this month, and gobbled it up right after it showed up in the mail.
...and now I'm going to have to wait a while for the next one. (sniffle)
This volume's a lot more focused on Ren and Kyoko's relationship. Is it possible that their misunderstanding could get worse? They're both so reticent, for their own reasons, and they're naive about love, and they've each seen the other in situations that would take an extreme stretch to not interpret in a way that pulls them apart. It's a great slow burn, but these two need to 'fess up already, so we can see more about the cool ninja TV show that Kyoko and Moko are acting in. I enjoy the parts about Kyoko learning how to act just as much as I do her snail's-pace creeping away from hate and toward love.
I guess I'll have to watch the Skip-Beat! anime a second time, and read the whole series through again*, while I wait for vol. 45.
*I'll probably skip a couple of "method acting real life 'characters'" arcs, though.
OMG! The jealousy in this one. The misspeaking and dancing between Ren and Kyoko is so crazy adorable. But this volume was very slow and very character-focused. It was worth it though, as it showed so much development. And the bonus story at the end with the lamb was too cute! I love it and how Kyoko is starting to open up. A good thing as trouble is brewing with other "relationships" coming into play.
•The jealously and confusion is being turned on high in this volume and It's- "AGONY! Misery! Woe!" -Agony from Into the Woods
•On to more lighthearted things, I have this theory that Kyoko is related to Kuresaki. Does anyone else feel the same way?
•I remember hating Koga for a long time after finding out his negative feelings towards Ren, but he's grown on me recently. Hopefully he let's go of his anger
Kyoko begins filming Lotus of the Mire, Sho coerces her into letting him pick up some food from the restaurant early in the morning, Ren sees this and is WAY TOO MEAN to Kyoko over it out of jealousy. In response, Kyoko decides to take a step back from their professional relationship in order to protect herself emotionally.
So, in conclusion: Ren, you dummy.

Emotions are running high! I've read all 44 volumes straight through and now I have to wait for 45 to come out! ─=≡Σ(╯°□°)╯︵┻┻ Nooooooo! On a less panicky note, I wonder if he'll finally be forced to reveal his true identity to her. Surprisingly, I missed seeing more development of her Momiji character after everything we saw in the auditions.
Skip Beat! is one of my favorite Manga of all time. Started in high school and continuing on this today. In this Volume we have Kyoko still trying to find the courage to face her friend Moko about the part she didn't get. While at the same time Ren is getting some unwanted publicity about him kissing the ex porn star Kana. one top of trying to find the right time to ask Kyoko about "the kiss" she had with Fewa a few volumes back. but when he did eventually ask it didn't quit go according to plan. Kyoko kind of freaked out and said things she didn't mean to say or have then come across. also we find out that even though Moko didn't get that part in the movie Kyoko's in she was asked to play another project by the same director. This Volume felt to me like a filler volume don't get me wrong is still liked it, it keeps the story line moving forward but slowly.
It's always frustrating when Kyoko and Ren have a big misunderstanding and don't talk because of that. At this point things are just kind of a mess and I want it fixed!
Lots of misunderstandings and drama in this one, especially between Ren and Kyoko, though as a whole it didn't seem like there was much else happening. Would have been nice to have a bit more action in this one 8'D
Definitely seems as though the manga may be approaching its conclusion now, and I'm curious to see where things are going to wind up at the end...
Chapter notes below for personal reference: (potentially spoiler heavy)

Story is 5 stars, electronic version has a little problem
If you are checking a review for the 44th volume of this ongoing manga, you already know that the forte of this mangaka is the story. The story continues to be interesting and I'm amazed that the author can keep creating tension and surprise. The drawings are nice but not the author's best. I think the quality of the drawings peaked during the Caine and sister arch and are now not as nice and confident as they used to be. There were a couple of times that I had to get a second look to identify main characters (Fuwa and Ren). As I said in the title, the electronic version has a little problem: On chapter 265, location 30, there are two pages fused together. The majority of the page is one we have already seen a little back and the one it should be is maybe a fourth of the page. I'm choosing to be optimistic and think that we are only missing one page, but it is a fact that when we turn to the next page, there is a jump in the story (meaning it might be two pages). And yes, there are some typos but no major problems with translation. You might be asking why I continue to give the book 5 stars taking into account the dip in the drawing quality and the e-book blip. It's because I don't think those things really matter in the overall enjoyment you get from the story and, I'm not ashamed to say, I want the publisher to continue to publish this series in the USA so that, someday, I get to know the end of this story.
Love that cannot be hidden彡★ Kyoko’s emotional turbulence comes from something she refuses to name out loud: her overwhelming, unspoken feelings for Ren. 🌙💔
Even when her heart trembles, she chooses discipline. She pushes everything down, holding onto professionalism with both hands, as if it’s the only thing keeping her steady. 🎭✨ But no matter how tightly she holds on,feelings have a way of slipping through the cracks. ★彡A palpable feeling of loss...彡★ For Ren, the moment he sees the photo of Sho and Kyoko feels like something quietly breaking inside him.
He becomes a man standing at the brink of something he can finally no longer pretend he can control. So far he has not acted on his feelings for her and has been careful. It would seem that this is no longer feasible. 🌌
I get the going back and forth cause I also want this series to last forever, but come one just talk to each other honestly... Stop these misunderstandings
Also I need to add the mangaka is the queen of complex facial expression. The emotions hidden in Kyoko's face are marvelous!

The ANGST! My heart can’t take it. Because of the pacing from Tokyo Crazy Paradise, I’m thinking we’re almost the the climax of Skip Beat or about to hit a crazy plot twist and I’m so excited for it.
just one of those mangas that i read to escape life. been reading for years...waiting for new chapters has always been painful with this one. but i find it worth waiting for. Kyoko is a very interesting character to follow.
I love this series. The humor, emotion, and grit never fails to disappoint. I cannot wait until the next issue. I wonder if either of them can clear up their misunderstanding and if so, how.
Did the art change? Cus the faces are ... off. Content wise, fanboy director was fun. Jealous Ren is intense. Kyoko in agony is always enjoyable. And I knew that kiss was gonna blow up in their faces.
Starts with plot moving along for Momiji film cast. Moko’s new role is in America. Sho causes more misunderstandings so the volumes ends on a whole chapter long uncomfortable car ride.
