I really like that the classic characters are getting more page time and Gold is slowly starting to grow on me.

This volume is a great addition to the overarching stories penned within the wide, wide world of Pokémon. Additionally, this is a great All Ages manga for young trainers who are interested in comics but may not have found manga yet. I highly suggest picking up these beefy books for young tween readers. They’re really lovely editions and are great for any kind of fan. I can’t wait to read the next omnibus!

So I found this volume to be okay. I am glad the ending of it wasn't too much of a cliffhanger and so I don't feel the need to continue the series any longer. This volume felt slower than previous volumes, like the story was just dragging out.
The graphics aren't bad, and I suppose if you are really, super into the story, I could see people continuing to read. It’s just that it not longer is doing much for me. I was actually glad when the book was finally over.

Volume 10:
After encountering the red Gyrados at Lake Rage, Gold and Silver have gone missing... meaning no one is working to complete the Pokédex! So Bill and Professor Oak place an ad and get and answer from a "Pokémon Capture Specialist" named... Crystal! Wow, we've already moved on to Johto's fancy edition. Anyway, she takes the job and is making excellent progress until... she gets sidetracked chasing Suicune, who is running all over Johto fighting gym leaders. Good way to speed-run the gym leader introductions since gym badges aren't the main goal of this story.

This omnibus contains volumes 10-12.
This series has 29 volumes.

In the immortal words of one of my co-workers, "Boy, howdy!" is the only way I can describe this volume. It has an amazing premise and continues in the second generation of Pokémon, still set in the Johto region. The character shifts onto Crystal, or Crys (Kris), and her work with Professor Oak to capture new Pokemon in the Johto region. As she continues through Johto, she meets Yellow and discovers Gold and Silver after they were defeated at the Lake of Rage. In the end, the legendary Pokemon, Ho-oh and Lugia, come back along with the three legendary Pokemon, Suicine, Entei, and Raikou, to fight an unknown evil force about to hit Kanto and Johto. At the very end of the book, things are about to begin at the Indigo League with exhibition matches between the Kanto and Johto gym leaders. It is told that one of those gym leaders is somehow "the one for whom Gold and Krys has to defeat in order to save both regions".

This is the 4th of the 3-in-1’s for Pokémon Adventures. I quite enjoyed the first 2 but the 3rd was like pulling teeth. (Yellow bores me as a character.) This volume was SUPERB. Gold, Silver, and Crystal are wonderful MCs. Comparing them to the past 4 MCs they are just heads above. Silver is mysterious and smart (far better than Blue.) Gold is funny and ingenious (far better than Red.) Crys is a talented and strong female (HEADS ABOVE GREEN AND YELLOW.) That’s how you write interesting and unique characters.

For the plot, it is also superior. I HATED the whole Lance and the Elite Four garbage. (Mostly because Yellow sucks.) The introduction of the new legendaries was well written and while repetitive, each battle was interesting to watch.

I can’t wait to continue this.

This volume primarily follows Crystal a Pokémon capturer who is given the final Pokédex to gather information on Pokémon for professor Oak. She sets off to catch Pokémon and ends up encountering the legendary Pokémon Suicuine. She ends up hunting down Suicuine and discovers that team rocket is also after it. In the last volume she finally meets Gold and Silver and we learn what has happened to them and meet Lugia the legendary bird that flew off after Yellow’s battle with the elite four.

I wasn't a big fan of this one. I still enjoyed it but just not as muchas the others. Still want to continue with them. They are so much fun. But I guess we can't love them all, if I am honest I am just bored of Crystal now. She doesn't really hold any appeal and I just feel like her time is up now and we need to move onto new characters. Or maybe just bring Red back. I love Red.

Introducing the queen of kicking captures, Crystal!

I find it interesting with new trainer highlighting the ongoing Pokémon adventures of this series that some of them have interesting ways to attempt capturing Pokémon they meet. Yellow has a poké ball on the end of her fishing line, Gold uses poké balls like pool balls and uses his cue stick to make amazing trick shots, and now Crystal who is very efficient at capturing Pokémon shows off how amazing her kicks are as her balls fly with scary accuracy after her favorite team makes it hard for her targets to escape.

With the tower in Ecruteak City destroyed three legendary Pokémon in Suicine, Raikou, and Entei escape into the world and at least for the time being Suicine itself has been testing strong trainers for its own reasons (don't worry for it gets explained why in this volume as well as how they escape.) In the meantime Team Rocket is crawling back out of the darkness it slipped into once Giovani was defeated and retreated to train once again. Under new leadership the team is about to make their presence known publicly but old and some new rivals to the group are already aware of the danger and are taking steps to handle the threat. Only time will tell if the mysterious Team Rocket leader will be easily sopped after their discovery of their ultimate goal.

This omnibus starts with a change of artists (Satoshi). Sadly, Mato lost the ability to draw after an illness. I really enjoyed her art! But Satoshi’s art is great. It’s very similar to Mato’s style and it didn’t take long to get used to it.

Anyway, this book starts Crystal’s adventure. She likes to capture Pokémon to fill up her Pokédex. She starts working for Professor Oak to collect data and ends up chasing Suicune, one of three legendary Pokémon that have emerged after the last volume! The legendary Pokémon are looking for something… or someone…
This volume ends with all the trainers at a tournament and apparently, one of these trainers is our enemy!!!! Duh duh dunnn… lol Cliffhanger moment!!!
I haven’t lost interest in this series yet! I liked this volume. It was good! Crystal is so determined and very precise when it comes to capturing Pokémon. Gold is still a rambunctious little dude lol. Silver is stoic and mysterious. And Yellow pops up again.. She’s precious… My favorite lol.
Can’t wait to see how this arc ends in the next omnibus!!!

This volume covers the introduction of Crystal and Suicune's journey to find a worthy trainer. As someone whose favorite part of the games is catching every new Pokémon I see, I couldn't help but instantly relate to Crystal. After so many characters whose main goal and interest was purely battling, following someone whose main skill set and interests were in catching Pokémon was such a breath of fresh air. Suicune's little adventure was also entertaining to watch, as it challenged gym leaders, old and new, in some pretty intense and creatively constructed Pokémon battles. Seeing Gold, Silver, and Crystal meet at the end of the volume, all the while setting up the plot for the next large battle brewing in the next volume, was a great way to end this slate of chapters.

I really enjoyed volume 4 of the Pokemon Adventures collector's volumes. Volume 4 picks up where volume 3 left of with Gold and Silver missing and brings in a new protagonist, Crystal, to help save the day. Crystal is the most enjoyable protagonist since Red for me personally and I love her story. This volume ends on a great cliffhanger so I'm excited to see where the manga goes next!

“Yesterday, three Pokémon came out of Ecruteak’s burned tower - Raikou, Entei and Suicune! The so-called Legendaries!”

The fourth volume of Pokémon Adventures was the weakest so far - the first half was far too repetitive for my liking, but the denouement more than made up for it by setting up the fifth volume in tantalising fashion.

This was such a fun read, and the pacing ended at a climax that makes me want to order the next collection now! There is so much fun to this manga series I highly recommend it. There is one part at a later chapter that is confusing, like whether it was a flashback or present day. I would need to reread it to get clarity, but other than that no notes for this story.

Volume 4 of the Collector's Edition of the Pokémon Adventures manga is an omnibus of Volume 10, 11 and 12 which I've read before. This is easily one of my favorite Pokémon Adventure mangas. It introduces Crys, one of my favorite Pokédex holders, gives Suicune a lot of screentime (Suicune is one of my favorite legendaries) and it's just a good story.

Excited to re-read the rest of the manga!

🌟 5/5

The reset I needed to cleanse my reading palette and get me back into reading. I love Pokémon so much and this volume is no exception! It’s actually so good at setting up a much bigger story and I’m excited to see where it goes. Plus I love that they’re introducing characters with new powers and skills to shake things up in the Pokémon world.

Too many different protagonists and some of the main ones don't get the spotlight much. Plus, the whole chasing the legendaries thing wasn't really interesting. The ending is good and makes for a promising next volume though.

Crystal is closest to me in trainer style, lol, but Yellow is still my favorite trainer by far. I'm also really happy to see Misty get some cred back with Suicune. Excited for the next Omnibus!

Thanks to the new protagonist, I liked this volume better than the previous ones. Yellow was a welcome addition to the ongoing plot even though Red's a better character overall. I know that the manga is more faithful to the games and gives each character the spotlight. That being said, I couldn't get into Gold, Silver, or their rivalry. Crystal, however, had enough personality and motivation to warrant reading an entire omnibus about her.

My only other criticism is that we spend way too much time with the gym leaders, who aren't all that interesting to begin with. They make the world feel expansive and lived in, but I never cared about what characters like Lt. Surge or Clair were doing. I want to reiterate that the Pokémon manga is a guilty pleasure, but Crystal's motivation to catch Suicune was far more compelling than Gold or Silver. This isn't Catcher in the Rye or 1984, but the anime can't hold a candle to the manga.
