Lena Ross’ book, Change Management: The Essentials, is to change managers what primer is to paint: it provides an excellent knowledge base upon which you can build your change management career.
My other reflections follow
Good recapping of the theory and models underpinning the practice of change management. Concise summary of the different types of change programs such as those driven by cultural or technical imperatives. Demystifies some of the language used in the profession and clarifies the difference between programs and projects and risks and issues. Great use of metaphors sprinkled throughout and I loved the section on change parables and how to use them.
Short, easy to read chapters with useful models and templates sprinkled throughout making it a valuable and inexpensive resource, for all change practitioners.
It’s hard to figure out what you need to know for change management. It’s such a big profession with so many overlapping definitions that it’s hard to sort out what might be the essentials. That’s what makes Change Management: The Essentials such a difficult thing to pull off. Lena Ross doesn’t score a perfect 10 for this work – but it’s a good way to get oriented quickly if you’d like.
