Fortune Academy #3

Fortune Academy: Year Three

Rate this book

I’ve done it. My five virtues have finally accepted me and it’s better than I could have ever imagined. Hendrik, Orion, Dante, Kaito, and Logan each fill a void inside of me that I hadn’t realized had been aching.

One problem: something is still missing…

Or someone.

I sense another Virtue coming my way… and the guys are not going to like this one.

Cole is unlike any of my Virtues. He’s a monster—just like me. Abused, beaten, and downright vicious. My guys think I should chase him away, but if being a monster has taught me anything it’s that everyone has a heart. It might be cold, hardly beating, and a bit broken, but I’ll find a way to reach him… monster to monster.

Fortune Academy: Year Three is book three in a Bully Academy Reverse Harem series. This is the stunning conclusion of Fortune Academy, but Lily’s story continues in Underworld Monster Academy!

Enjoying the story, but still wish we saw more character growth!

I'm enjoying the story itself, I've been binging this series with no problem. I just REALLY wish we saw more character growth rather than have them just suddenly change miraculously.

At 16% in the book, it says about Hendrick, "I didn’t think he had expected to fall in love with me and his reluctance stung in the mate-circle like a thorn." However, nowhere in the previous two books or even the beginning of this one gives us any inclination that Hendrick has actual feelings for her. Even when they bonded, it didn't seem like a romantic moment. He just took the place of one of the other guys because her succubus side couldn't harm him.
Later on, it says he looks at her with a look of adoration (and smugness), but I still felt such a disconnect there. When did things begin to change? It just... happened.
I feel similarly with Orion, as well. He was fighting the bond and went to Olympus to try and break it somehow, but when she ended up in heaven, he was suddenly gung-ho about it? Clearly, the discussions he had up there before she showed up changed his mind, but we don't SEE the progression he made. He just suddenly decides he's fine with her. These things bug me in the book. They're just suddenly different. Same personalities, but suddenly open to being with Lily and possibly even loving her. While I generally prefer multiple POV in my books, I haven't minded the single POV in Fortune Academy. However, perhaps if it WAS multiple POV, we'd have been able to see the guys' growth and how their minds work. I just don't feel connected to the guys at all because of this.

Anyway, all of this aside, I'm enjoying the story, so I'm off to book #4!

Vaguely recall the first 2 books being good.
But was wearing a little on the immature drama bs side for me and lo and behold i think that and whatever mind numbingly dumb plot this book was never seemed to be doing anything worthwhile for me to hold focus or even care hence its been left on my shelf for fuck a year idk ages and im clearing house at this point if have to read from the start of the series and i just physically cant stomach another second of the immature fucking miss perfect drama and ansty bs and the scenarios that were like fucking come on can someone here act like their characters claim to fkn be and with one iota of goddamn sense before i scream in frustration. So yeah i remember that and that is not a feeling you want to remember when thinking of books past read.
And i remember it was all the worst because i distinctly recall fkn loving the concept etc of the first book/world.
Idk i feel like so many authors do this.
They establish worlds and characters and a general story and they just get out of love with it and caught up in angsty drama with no purpose and overcomplicate stuff to make a story because they lack the ability to have story without teen drama bullshit. Which if youre writing children for children then maybe thatd be tolerable but they usually arent which makes it all the more irritating its one thing to have inexperienced moments with younger adults or maybe theyre still teying to break out of old habits but to have everyone seemingly act like angsty teens is just so fucked.
So highly doubt ill ever attempt this series again maybe not even the author given how well this one went but who knows i might lose my fuckin mind and hope theyve improved and be tricked into thinking im getting a good series but the fun premise of a tantalising first book.
If i do feel free to smack sense into me.

So carrying on from book two we jump straight into the story, it’s action packed and full of twists and turns , secrets and so much more! Loving Lily and her guys but will they stand together? You will have to read on and find out in this addictive fast paced reverse harem adventure! Totally recommend you read the previous books other wise you are missing out!

Delicious!

So in this book we've seen the progress and the regress of our little lady's relationships with her Virtues.

Lily is really up against it all, but this book gave so much while also setting the stage for the next round of challenges she faces.

After book 1 being slow burn and book 2 ramping up the heat, the spice really started to kick in with this read.

I'm absolutely downloading book 4 already (Fortune Academy Underworld) and I'm still seeking answers to the different issues Lily faces.... So many answers, yet so many more questions!

I sincerely hope that this book comes with an age restriction, especially for anyone under 21!

I didn't think about this matter before, mostly because I read the previous books in the late hours of the night, but I came to the realisation whilst reading this book. Aside from the very adult themes, explicit and dubious content, the way Lily's relationship with her virtues are portrayed/written, her subsequent response to their bullying/abusive behaviour isn't normal nor should it be read as such. I truly hope that someone young/impressionable doesn't read this and thinks that said behaviour is okay in any way.

I don't know why some of it has even been romanticized when Lily very obviously points out said behaviour, therefore she knows its wrong, but then continues to accept/allow it anyway... because of this happening all throughout this series as a PNR this book has lost all of its appeal to me.

I cannot believe that I have to write this, but abusive and or bully-ish behaviour should not be romanticized no matter what the circumstances are in a story, at least not when the character is so obviously aware of the matter. Would it be different when said matter was used as a plot-point/for character development? Yes. Is that the case here? No.
To give an example: Lily gets groped many times, despite the fact that she tells her virtues off, to stop it, but it keeps happening again and again, and it gets brushed under the rug a moment later as Lily just accepts it, because they are her virtues so what else is she supposed to do, right? This has been one of the issues I've had with this series, I had hoped that after book one such behaviour would get addressed in some (any) way and get resolved, that the guys would truly redeem themselves, but no.

Aside from the above it feels like the author has put all types of plot-lines and supernatural beings into these books, but instead of it being done in a fitting/appropriate way its just chaotic. There is so much happening but in the grand scheme of things nothing that matters to the main plot is actually happening. It gets put on the back-burner (for the next instalment) again.

I remember reading in Book 1 (I think) that the series was meant to be a trilogy, but am very disappointed that the story has still not concluded. Especially with the way the first instalments were written (brief and lacking real depth). This book has left me feeling a bit divided, on the one hand I'm totally done with this series, mostly because of Lily's virtues and the how unlikeable they've remained (and another one has been added to the mix, yay!).

On the other hand I'm curious about the final "big" fight that's supposed to conclude Lily's journey as the champion of the Third Echo of Calamity. Though I don't know if I want to read through another X amount of books/BS side-plots about her virtues and whatnot just to get to something that should've happened in this book. Maybe not having read the other series written by this author is the reason why this series seemed depth-less/chaotic to me. However, I don't care for the other series/characters. I cared for this one.

Dedicating my 200th book review to this series.

Well, that was interesting.

Cole, where and who are you hun? Adding another virtue into the mix was somewhat surprising as her existing bond with her mates has been building over the last 2 books but in reality, the adventure is just getting started.

I really really really enjoyed J.R Thorn's use of Japanese demons. It was a unique and fresh perspective to academy romances which tropes are often recycled and predictable. I would love to get to know more about that.

Special shoutout to Olivia, she has become such a badass since the first book and I love it! Her character development and purpose in the book has evolved implicitly showing the transition from her shy 1st year persona to graduating.

DNF: First two books were okay, plot seemed interesting but this third book was so convoluted I struggled to keep interest.
Too many characters made this an exasperating read, not to mention the random 6 month time skip where basically nothing happened.
The nail in the coffin for me was when the FL discovered two of her “virtues” were doing the do on the sly (though according to one of them he’s “not into dudes” - sure my guy, makes sense) her response was “well they share me so I’m not bothered if they share each other.” before she launched into a tangent about a betrayal she found out about by forcibly stealing his memory?
Too bizarre, even for me.

Blah

I don't even know how to review this book. The plot has potential, but the characters are all losers. I keep hoping that there will be redemption at some point, but I just don't see it happening. After the first two books showing us how awful Lily's virtues are, you would think that there would be some kind of begging for forgiveness from the harem. Instead, the author gives us lame excuses for the guys behaving like they did (and continue to do). Then, Lily accepts that this is the way they are and that's why she chose them. She basically accepts that they will always treat her like crap and she's ok with that. It's absolutely ridiculous. I'm not sure if the author is just making the harem too big and so they can't find a good balance with writing about each guy, but I feel like long periods of time go by and you hear nothing about some of the harem. I feel like Kaito and Logan are the ones left out the most. I'm not sure why the author decided we needed another member to the harem (Cole), but it's actually frustrating that there's another one because we don't really know much about the current ones except that they are jerks. The story revolves around Lily, who, is a complete idiot. You know the whole "dumb\airhead" blonde thing everyone jokes about?? Well, look no further than Lily. Any stupid thing she could do she is quick to do. It's like she's truly an idiot! You would think that with her powers she would get some intelligence as well. But she just goes along with whatever pops into her mind and acts on it with no knowledge or consideration. She's not learning anything in school because she barely goes to classes. This whole book has a seriously weird timeline where 5 months at a time go by and you have no idea what has happened in that time because absolutely nothing happens. You are just told 5 months have passed so get over it.

Basically, what I'm saying is that this series has some potential as far as the plot. But, the author is going in so many directions that I feel like nothing is really coming together. This is supposed to be the end of the series, but it's going to continue on and I still don't have a clue as to what we are aiming for with the plot. I don't like Lily and could care less what happens to her. None of her guys have any true redeeming qualities. I thought Logan and Dante did, but 5 months of being able to stay away and block the mental link took away that hope. I haven't decided if I care to read the next book. It's late, so I'm going to go to bed and see how I feel about continuing on in this series tomorrow. It's not looking good....

The most pressing thing I have to say here is I AM SO GLAD THE AUTHOR DECIDED TO WRITE MORE BOOKS IN THIS WORLD.

Books 1 & 2 grabbed me and held on tight and I’ve been lost in this world for months now, not even wanting to find my way out. In book 3, things are still chaotic, and not much is resolved. You could say this book ends on a cliffhanger, and it’s so well done that I’m not even mad. Sure, I’m dying for book 4 Fortune Academy Underworld: Book Four but there’s nothing but admiration here for a complicated world that’s very well designed and characters I fear I’ll never be able to get enough of.

5 stars.
Thorn, please send more soon!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Note:
I both read the ebook and listened to the audiobook. Ebook is gorgeous and free of errors. 5 stars all around.

Audiobook performance is flawless and free of errors. 5 stars here as well.

Recommended reading order:

I strongly recommend reading Seven Sins and The Vampire Curse: Royal Covens first—and in that order. The Fortune Academy books make many mentions of Sonya, her mates and her plight (‘Seven Sins’) as well as Evie and hers. Also there are some crossovers among the characters and reading these series in order is SO MUCH FUN.

🌠🌠ONE PHENOMENAL THRILL🌠🌠
Holy hell batman! Thorn cranked my tractor, dialed my number, rang my bell and left me hanging, raising the stakes and keeping it real, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Banded, bound and tightly wound, exposing the thrilling quirks and defying bents, launching this jewel to life flawlessly. Tromping through minefields of perilous drama, damning secrets, chilling danger and spiraling suspense, negotiating through the dark deceptive manipulations of malicious intent, kicking ass and dispatching foes, propelling this baby to staggering heights. Limitations are amplified and exploited, laying out all the fervent facts, thrills and debacles, riding the currents and breaching waves, booting this baby into a tailspin with a mind-blowing culmination. The raw magnetism, undeniable attraction and sizzling chemistry collides with such intensity, exposing deep emotions, drawing our characters closer, binding them to one another perfectly. The characters, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, adding depth and diversity, transforming into outstanding personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and vivid descriptions creating an elaborate backdrop that makes the storyline explode. Fantastic job Thorn, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

Just couldn't hold my attention enough to invest...

Has potential but I don't have enough patience and lost interest and pushed myself painfully till I finished book 3. Shame because it had started to get better here and there. Especially the smex...a little bit...well it went from warm to heated and sometimes it burned enough for me to smirk...but just not enough to keep me on for 7 more books.

Maybe it's me, but I don't care like I should. Not about Lilly or her mates. The most interesting thing happened in the background between two of her mates and it's a side novel, it didn't make it into this book.

I am just disappointed, it had potential but lacked the character build to snare me. I probably wouldn't notice if some of their traits changed because I failed to connect with the group.

Maybe I need to come back to the series, and as the author writes maybe it gets better. But one thing that could have helped. The MMCs POVs, needed it for 10 10-book series. Without multiple POVs, this series should have been condensed, made more intense and wrapped up in 3 books tops

This was pretty much ... explosive. It did blast my head for sure. I was expecting many thing, really many.. some of them did happen.. but hell... many others did happen that I would never expect. The Virtues are perfect, their love for Lily unique. They are all so selfless when it comes to her, and saving her. But so is she. At the end it’s Lily who decide how things are suppose to go, and they listen and kind of even understand. The constant twists and turns was interesting. Plot more than great. Idea - wonderful. But do you know what was really crazy? ... the end which was not the end. My brain is on the walls and my jaw on the floor. Every minute I spent reading it was worth it, worth being zombie the next day since I read till early morning hours unable to put it down. It’s simply awesome.

Burn in Hell
This short story was so good. The fight scene - really interesting. The sex - soo hot. And Cole so full of rage. I certainly need more of it very soon.

Fortune Academy Year Three is Book 3 in the Fortune Academy series by J.R. Thorn. This is a beautifully written, action packed, page turning, edge of your seat thrill ride with well developed characters (have grown/evolved along the way) that you will not want to put down as the need to know what's coming next is overpowering. If you want to find out what happens between Lily and her 6th virtue Cole (whose is a complete ass), READ THIS BOOK. I love that Lily's other 5 virtues have finally accepted her. I highly recommend this book and series as it's more than worth the time spent reading. I am anxiously looking forward to Fortune Academy Underworld, Book 4. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Okay so I’ve been waiting for ages for this book and it did not disappoint! I enjoyed every second of it!!

Lily is such a badass character that proves that even though she has her 5 virtues (6 by the end of the book) she doesn’t need a man to save her. She is strong and can do anything... even discover who she truly is and cheat death!

I can honestly say that I didn’t put the book down once I started it and got in big trouble for forgetting to make dinner... oops... but so worth it!!

The adventure just never gets dull... always something exciting round the corner and just the right amount of heat ;-)

Awesome book...truly!! I’m already counting down the days until book 4!!

Awesome series! Must Read!!! Spoiler *alert*

What an amazing series. Total cliffhanger at the end and looking for to this series continuing! I fell in love with all these characters from book 1. I’m looking forward to Lily and her virtues story to continue! I was so heartbroken her last virtue couldn’t get his head out of his ass to see what was in front of him. Maybe with the surprise time jump at the end will have had an effect on him and why does it not surprise me her guys believed she was truly dead. Come on she’s a tribred and a champion. No way was death standing in her way. Can’t wait for the next installment!!! I’m so excited!!!

Just some quick thoughts:
This series feels very rushed to me. There are also some time jumps that occur with no notice that I had to back peddle and reread to see if I missed something. I also feel the characters are a little one note. There's little background for some and others none at all that make the characters feel lack luster.
The plot itself is good and refreshing - although I wouldn't call it a true academy book other than the setting. It rarely touches on classes or professors etc. Just mentions of the dean and dorm settings.

If you are looking for a quick series read then I would recommend. However if you are looking for something more in depth... pass.

Mini cliffy strikes.

Well, normally that would irritate me to no end. It was done in such a way that I’m OK with it this time. I think I need to check my temperature because I’m never OK with Cliff what is wrong with me?

Year three has more twist in terms than any long and winding road I’ve been on. There are some spots where some things don’t make sense to me. Hendrick’s total switch up, the mystery that is Cole, and a few things about Dante.

I think I’d understand more if I had the virtues POV and not just all one sided.

I’m still invested, but wanting more.

The narrator once again kills it!

What can I say about Fortune Academy: Year 3? It does end a cliffhanger so just be prepared. I also recommend you read The Vampire Curse, and Seven Sins as these books do intertwine with one another. J.R. Thorn does have a recommended reading order so definitely binge those as well.

This book starts where the 2nd abruptly ended. There are a lot of twist and turns to this book and we get a better look at Lilys bonds with her virtues. All hell breaks loose literally. I enjoyed reading more of Lilys adventure and am looking forward to the next installment! :)

Currently picking head up off the floor

Wow wow wow what a read. Every page is filled with such intense action and emotions from Lily and her sexy guys. With plenty of steamy scenes throughout the book its sure to keep you satisfied with every part of the book.
At first we see Lily in hell searching for her mother for help to then go back to the academy for the storyline to kick it up another notch in how intense the read is.
I could go into so much about why you should read this book but I dont want to spoil the epic read. So pick up a copy today

Fantastic Story!!!!!!!

This was one action packed, full of twist and turns story. It has you on the edge of your seat with anticipation of what is going to happen next. It was beautifully written and the characters have really grown. Yes, it does end in a cliffhanger and unfortunately I have to wait to find out what happens but the ending in this book was very unexpected and fantastic. I can't wait to see how Lily and the guys handled what is thrown at them next. This series is a definite must read.

This massive story continues and I’m still completely sucked in! The amount of brainpower it had to take to create this ever weaving saga...I can’t imagine. I can’t even describe it! The characters have.....matured? They’ve evolved sounds more appropriate. The world is ever changing and it’s so detailed and chaotic. I love it. This was fast paced for me or maybe I just devoured it whole. I’m so looking forward to the next book!

Tw murder, coercion

This was just frustrating, the change in series name is confusing as the concept is still the same and we're continuing with the same characters.

We've got 6 mates but they're not fleshed out at all, it's bare bones as we keep hearing that they're mysterious and keep secrets. And let's throw in some mm because let's hurt each other not the girl we love? That's just weird and confusing, feels more like using and hurting.

Overall just thinking about dropping the series

Eye Roll

To many time jumps that aren’t really effective. If your going to jump time at least have something happen not just the same nothingness as before it’s just tedious and pointless.

I also am more annoyed there’s less focus on character powers and abilities meant to help with their end of world fight and more focus on her relationships and walking in circles accomplishing nothing.

This should have been finished in three books and the series has ten 😩😩

needs editing

This series has been entertaining so far but they have all been in need of some editing, and this one seemed especially messy. There are timeline issues and it feels like things are said as if they had already been written about and explained but they actually hadn’t been, so you are constantly wondering what is going on. Also not sure how the series is so long. It doesn’t seem necessary.

What a fantastic third book to this series. Things heat up and the plot thickens. I really enjoyed the flow and how the characters develop within the group. The scenes were hot, unpredictable and had the element of anticipation that I really loved. This third installment adds a new member to the group and I can't wait to find out more. What a great read.
