Well written discussion of cellular health and optimization.

At first the book dives deep into micro biology somewhat daunting for a non scientist. However the application of the science opens up a clear understanding of the human molecular system. The reader can easily create intelligent roadmap to better health. The only real challenge is applying the knowledge to the 21 st. Century. If we take the guidance wholesale we may become a modern day Spartan with fairly strict rules of eating , fasting an exercise regimens. The challenge is well presented and well explained. Those who choose to try this routine will certainly learn not to live to eat but rather eat to live!

Autophagy explained

So much information on the benefits of fasting. The technical parts I needed to skim over, but it’s the most comprehensive book I’ve read on the what-happens-in-your -body while you fast. Having water fasted 7-12 day for many years, it’s nice to learn that intermittent fasting can yield similar results. Inspirational.

If it wasn't such an important topic, i would give this effort a 2. Bolton takes the lazy way out and basically copies his info from a medical textbook. It's not until the last chapter (they are not even chapters) to explain things in a layman's manner. If you're a research biologist, you may like this more than the average person. He could have done a much better job. There are other better ones out there.

Useful for personal healthcare

I enjoyed the information provided it's a good mixture of technical, scientific and laymen writings that the average non medical reader will find useful.

Interesting

Bolton's take on autophagy is highly interesting and dovetails closely with what I have been learning about the role of mitochondria in our cells and also the benefits of a ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting.

This book is about fasting, why, and how. I'm glad that it is a short read. The scientific explanations were over my head, but the lay text was fine, if repetitious. Fasting reduces the useless by-products accumulated just by being alive. If you burn all the energy that you consume every day your system is probably pretty clean. The by-products of over-eating can do you harm. Fasting encourages the body to consume this trash for energy

The book recommends certain diet plans and offers several methods of fasting. Most people can find a fasting plan they can follow without much discomfort, though folks with pre-existing conditions should talk to their doctor before beginning. Fasting for more than 35 hours is not recommended, and 16-18 hours will work just fine. Fasting for weight loss is also covered.

well worth reading.

Easy to read and well written. Very informative and motivating. Some areas need more clarification for better understanding. For health benefits, I am motivated to extend my fasting beyond 24 hours.

Quite technical.

If you want to take a.deep dive into auto plant this is the book you want to read. Very thorough explanation abounds.
