Rate this book
Fresh from his victories against the Picts, Arthur faces his deadliest enemy yet... One that threatens to consume all Albion...

The South Saxons have pushed westwards under their ruthless leader Aelle. The great general Ambrosius Aurelianus - last defender of the Britons - has been captured. Heeding the call for help, Arthur leads the Teulu of the Red Dragon south... to war.

As the battle for Albion rages, Guenhuifar finds herself up to her neck in political intrigue as she tries to unmask an assassin and foil a plot to plunge Venedotia into another civil war. And a young boy called Peredur will do whatever it takes to join Arthur's warband.

From the mist-shrouded Isle of the Dead to the bleak moors and crashing surf of Dumnonia, war is brewing. The fate of Albion hangs in the balance as the defining conflict of the era creeps ever closer; the Battle of Badon...

An excellent alternate Arthurian legend!

I chose this highest rating because the book is superbly crafted and brings the reader into the events. I am prone to be a traditionalist with respect to Arthur and his world and yet, while this is quite different...it is SO credible. Arthur's pursuit of preserving his culture and the land of the native Britons from the "Saes" is constantly tested. And yet, Arthur is a sensitive hero whose hallmarks are honor and loyalty. Can't wait for the next installment(s). Thank you Chris Thorndycroft
