The first dragon rider in over a hundred years has been born.

And it’s a girl.

Never before has a female been chosen to ride a dragon.

The Elite, a guild comprised exclusively of dragon riders, is dead according to most. No one has seen a rider in decades. The problems they used to fight overwhelm the world. Dragons are thought to be near extinction.

However, the Elite aren’t dead…

It’s just that a bunch of crusty, old men who do nothing that benefits the world at large are easy to mistake as useless corpses.

Sophia Beaufont is about to change all of that.

When the dragon egg that magnetized to her hatches, it sets Sophia on a new course. The Elite are immediately notified. She’s expected to train. To defend. To fight.

Sophia is ready to conquer evil, as the dragon riders should have been doing for centuries.

However, the Elite have been turning a blind eye, allowing the world to be overrun by criminals.

That’s all about to change.

S. Beaufont isn’t a girl who will be told to sit down and relax when a war is brewing that only a dragon rider can extinguish.

How the hell is this getting positive reviews?

Our Mary sue hero never doubted she was the greatest wizard of the age. Never questioned that in a matter of months she aged from prepubescent child to late teen. Never questioned how dragons or magic suddenly appear in the modern world.

If it wasn't for the vocabulary, this wouldn't even rate as "young adult" or teen, but young child/Disney fairy tale level, except no where near as good.

Characters struggle to be 2dimentional. Plot is shallower than a puddle on a race track. Calling it "amateur" is an insult to amateurs. At least it didn't suffer the usual horrific editing most the self-published garbage does, but then, none of the writing was complex enough to need it; a 2nd grader with word could have edited this story.

Wow, this is a brilliant first book in the Exceptional S. Beaufont series. It starts with a heart thumping scene and only goes up from there. Sophia’s dragon egg has finally hatched, making her the first new dragon rider in over a 100 years and the first female ever. When Sophia joins the elite guild of Dragon Riders, she finds things are not what she expected. The dragon riders have lost their purpose, but all that is about to change now that S. Beaufont is there!
If you have read the authors’ Unstoppable Liv Beaufont series then you will already be attached to Sophia, if you haven’t then you will soon fall in love with her and her dragon. This book captures your attention from the very start, right from the first scene you are drawn into the dragon riders’ world. I loved the cyclical theme of one dying as one is being born at the beginning. The sense of renewal is strong as we see the old struggled to understand the changes in the world, trying to fit a round peg into a hole that is no longer round. I loved the struggles and fights that lead the dragon Elite to awaken and that Sophia brings a new light to an ancient power. I think it is the simple reminders interwoven into the story that I like the best, like telling your loved ones daily that you love them, being kind, looking after the planet, to never give up and to be yourself and not what others think you should be like. There is not one thing that I did not like about this book; from the funny convos with Liv, to Hiker’s grumpiness, Ainsley’s shape-shifting, the castle’s salience, and the bonds the dragons have with their riders, it is all amazing. I thought the authors would be hard pressed to beat the Liv Beaufont series, but it looks like they will achieve it with this one.

Definitely not the greatest. Everything felt super monotone and nothing caught my interest too much. The main character doesn't experience any growth because she is born perfect - awkward.

I will admit I was a little concerned with what I thought was going to be a spin off series from the Liv Beaufont series but reality is not a single worry. This new series centres around our new heroine Sophie Beaufont, the younger sister in the Beaufont family but as she is a dragon rider and better still the first ever woman to join the Dragon riders Elite (woohoo so great to see strong resilient female lead characters) this series will very much be it's own driving force of success. In reality would love to see some cross over connections to the Unstoppable Liv Beaufont books.
Again author Sarah Noffke has delivered a wonderful start to her new series with the use of great characters - a female shape shifting gnome housekeeper, the wonderful return of King Rudolph from the Fae Kingdom, and some old fashioned dragon riders so disconnected to today's tech savvy world. But I'm sure all that will change with the help from Sophie and her Dragon Lunis.
This story is a stand alone but to really get full value and enjoyment I would suggest reading The Unstoppable Liv Beaufont series as you get so much more background and depth into the characters and direction of the story. Highly recommend this read and so looking forward to seeing how Sarah Noffke will continue with her great storytelling.

Wowsers!

What a wonderful story. I’m not usually in to dragons or dragonrider books. But I enjoyed the world Sarah created in the Liv Beaufont series and was interested in reading more and seeing old characters again. I’m glad I gave it a chance. I love Sarah’s wit and storytelling. She hints at sci-fi elements with the magtech and I want more. I love that this was an extra long book. Just when I felt like the book must becoming to an end I glanced down to see I was only at 50%. That was a wonderful surprise. Can’t wait for the next book.

What to say about the new book and series by Sarah Noffke. I suppose BRAVO is the best way to address this new adventure Sarah is leading us on. S. Beaufont is smart, brave and sassy at a level only matched by her sister Liv. Dragons are not rare in books these days, but Sophia's is a really charmer. A perfect compliment to Sophia in every way. Their relationship teaches that family and soul deep love are meant for more than just human beings. Family is anything or anyone we chose to share our lives with. That we freely give our hearts too. The humor is superb as always. I love that anything goes in PNR(Paranormal Romance). From quiet gnomes to flamboyant Kings it's all good in a world where a Beaufont resides. Never a dull moment where Father Time is a real person and some others are not just metaphors but real flesh and blood people. Now we just have to wait for book 2 and see what else Sarah Noffke can pull out of her magic hat.

What a great ride!

When Sarah finished her Luv Beaufont series I was bummed out. It was like one of the best storylines ever was gone.
At this point I found out that her younger sister would be in a new series, and they be Dragons! Far out!
I pre ordered the book and it showed up a couple of days ago. I was reading an old favorite so I finished that book first.
This book flat out kicks ass!!! You can tell how much of yourself you put in this story. I have two friends who are always asking about "What you reading now? I wish I had time to read" my usual response is yeah, and I wish I could walk. This year some of my friends are getting Fire tablets pre-order with some of my personal favorites, this book will be on that list. Keep them coming. It's getting cold, and my chair will not go in the snow.
Hope you made it through the fires unscathed

Peace!

S Beaufont

Sophia will definitely shake things up! And we are finally told her dragon’s name! Sarah has done an amazing job of starting Sophia’s story with her dragon. A genius author, indeed. The emotions, humour (especially snarky sarcasm), and interactions breathe life into the characters.

Seeing some old friends is great, maintaining a link to Liv’s series. The new characters have their own quirks and watching them develop interpersonal relationships is fascinating. The secrets continue to intrigue and leave us with a sense of wonder.

This series is going to be exceptional, and I’m looking forward to reading more about Sophia and her dragon’s adventures.

Love

I loved Liv and her antics, so I knew I'd LOVE Sohp. Sarah and Michael write characters I want to call friends and heroines that I want to be. I cannot wait until the next installment. Kudos Sarah and Michael you really raised the bar.
As for this series I love the self awareness Sohp has and how she realizes the journey to discovering ones self is never done. There is always another lesson to learn and another layer to find. I can appreciate that. I'd call this a must read for every one who loves a geat story, everyone who loves a little magic, and anyone who needs a reminder that love is the best magic of all.

I love anything to do with dragons and so could not wait to read this and OMG boy was I glad I did cause it’s fantastic! Fast paced we have a well written story about a female dragon rider, the first ever in the elite and I am totally addicted! I loved the series that this has spun off from and love the fact that not only do you greet new characters but also old friends in this incredible world built by this author! Can’t wait for book 2!

This book is phenomenal! It is an excellent continuation of the Liv Beaufont series and allows fans to see Sophia's development as a rider. Her relationship with Lunos is so solid and helps her stay balanced while being thrown into this old fashioned world of the riders. A great read and I can't wait for Book 2.

Beautiful book

I have loved the Lib Beaufont series but this is so much better. It is as if the author's heart is in this book. Whole new level
Which is saying a lot since Sarah Noffke is the best already
Thank you

Note: We use the term intersex not hermaphr*dite it's a slur. Hopefully the authors can change this in the ebook version but the whole sentence where it came from was incredibly problematic. I get the intent but there are better ways of saying it.

Just as good as liv.

I enjoyed this book very much. It is just as good as the previous series. I love the crossovers with characters from the previous book strolling into this one. There are two things I did not like in the book one is once a magician uses a great deal of magic in one big spell that magic is depleted. Now in the human body if you use muscles continuously those muscles grow and then handle more strain and stress. My question is why isn’t it the same while they’re using their magic. It logically should seem the more they use their magic the more their magic should increase, and the more storage capability they should have. That was my big pet peeve in the last series as well. The other part of the book I was a little frustrated about was the video game sequence it seemed that Sophia was a little slow on the uptake concerning how to play a video game I realized what she had to do after the first several sentences of the paragraph. All in all it is a very good series and I think people will enjoy reading it as they did the last. Awaiting the next book.

““MAGIC! It’s freaking magic!”

Not sure if stealing the subject title of this review direct from the authors afterword is classed as plagiarism but if it is, so be it.

At 01:35 in the morning on a work day that seems far more apt in describing this book than anything else my tired grey matter can come up with. I seriously did not want to sleep before I wrote some sort of review to express how great this book was/is.

The time mentioned above may give you some hint as to how good this book is - it kept me up, I had to know where the story went before I could sleep regardless of the consequences of lack of sleep.

I so wish I had the skill and imagination to take a simple thought, "dragons as adjudicator's" and create such a great story.

I really enjoyed The Uncommon Rider and didn't want to put it down. The series is a spin off from the Unstoppable Liv Beaufont series, so it's great that we still get to see many of the characters we grew to love in that series. But there is enough information provided in this book that it can be read without having read Liv's books (although you won't want to miss them!). Sophia is a fun, modern heroine! I loved her interactions with the 'old' male dragon riders. There are some awesome new characters and I particularly loved Ainsley and of course Sophia's dragon Lunis. Plenty of magic, action and adventure. I can't wait for the next book.

First of all, I loved the length of the book. It was set up in two parts because they are almost two sides of an interconnecting story. I'm glad we got to learn about the dragon riders. I feel that there is much much more to be revealed. I loved that there were nods to the Liv series with interactions from my favorite characters but not so much that the book couldnt stand on its own. Sophia finds herself in odd situations much like Liv. I hope that continues as the series progresses. Cant wait to read more!

Loved it

What a great read following Sophia as she strikes out on her own with her forever faithful dragon companion.

This book brings light to a new world that gets shaken up by the youngest dragon rider ever who happens to be a girl. Shock horror. It’s great to see Sophia come into herself and grow and explore her new life with such grit and determination with greatly loved characters from the Liv books making an appearance.

I tried not to read this book in one go, to save it for a day of travelling, but once I started I couldn’t put it down.

Fantastic story.

WOW what an amazing adventure

This is the 1st book I've read by this author and can honestly say she is a gem. What a wonderfully written story. The cover caught my eye. when I recognized the other author I took a quick look to see if the story was somehow a spin-off. The short snapshot immediately caught my attention. Needless to say I was hooked from the 1st few lines of this story. Sophia and Lunis have an amazing relationship that definitely shakes things up. The banter between the characters was addicting. What an emotional amazing adventure. Love S.

Wow

I have looked forward to this book since the announcement. It was everything I expected and so much more. The bond between rider and the dragon brought tears to my eyes a few times. I loved how Sophia is maturing in the book and didn't just have all her powers handed to her when she crossed over the barrier. Thank you Sarah and Michael for an outstanding book. Can I say...hurry up with the next installment. Please!

Riveting!

This is an amazing first book in a new series that follows Sophie on her new journey! I loved it!
Following Sarah Noffke on her writing journey has been incredible. She has grown and gotten better over time. If that’s possible.
Follow Sophie as she takes up the challenge of becoming a dragon rider! She faces challenges and proves herself over and over! I am really excited about this book and looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

The Uncommon Ride is a magical dragon adventure with quirky humor, fun characters, and lots of action. This story is a spin off from the Liv Beaufont series, so those who read that series should particularly enjoy seeing old friends again. For anyone starting fresh, this is also a good starting point. This book is the first in a series, and there is a lot left for future books to resolve.

By the way, this book is easily as long as two regular books. It’s a lot of book for your money!

Great Book

The best fantasy fiction book I've read in a long time. It is so refreshing to read a great book on a subject (dragons) that is written about so much. The humor is wonderful. The heroine is strong and tough but still a women. She knows how to handle even a curmudgeon in a respectful way, even when frustrated and doing things her way. Love all the characters. Each one is well developed. Loved this book, keep up the good work, can't wait for Book 2

Uncommonly good

Finally, a series to break your teeth on. This is the story to read. An intriguing outlook at dragons, riders, fae, magic etc. versus modern technology. This is a great job of merging past and present. Of course evil versus good doesn't hurt the story line. Can't wait for the next one. The characters are fresh and strong ; each adding to their own importance in the plot. Don't pass this one up.

A new Pern

The story of dragon riders comes to our world, well with a few differences. Magical beings that have been revealed only in myth and legends become real and visible to the human inhabitants. The story of Liv expands as her little sister becomes the first female dragonrider to ever bond with the first dragon to hatch in centuries. A wonderful story and a fantastic read.

Yay!!

Solid first book for Sophia’s solo series! She strikes out on her own with her own voice but we still get to see some of the characters we love. If you haven’t read Liv Beaufonts series yet check it out- totally worth the money! We get a problem, a boss and distinct yet murky villain all in one and I can’t wait for book 2

Well when you think you have seen it all.

This is a great way to pass a day or two, reading a new view of the world of magic and Dragons. Awakening a sense of what should be and a way to make things better. A female point of view can improve any situation for the better, working together to make things better for all
