The thrilling next installment in the enormously popular Big Nate series
Dating an older lady has its challenges, and Nate isn't sure he's cut out for the experience, especially since his friends in his own grade seem to be having a lot of fun without him. Will Nate be able to find a balance between the pressures of romance and the pleasures of spending time with his friends? The only thing certain for Nate is that there will be lots of laughter, mischief, and detention.
Lincoln Peirce is a cartoon artist from Portland, Maine. He lives with his wife and two children, and occasionally gives lectures to students about cartoon creating. Peirce writes the comic strip "Big Nate". Peirce's comic strip, Big Nate, is featured as an island on the famous children's website, Poptropica. Big Nate appears as the first cartoon on The Maine Sunday Telegram in the comics section.
He studied art at Colby College in Maine were he began cartooning. He also studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture before teaching art and coaching basketball at a New York highschool for 3 years. He currently plays hockey with "an old men's league" and describes it as his best sport as a child. In an interview with the Washington Post, Peirce stated that his last name is pronounced "purse" and is not a misspelling of "pierce."
Lincoln Peirce was a member of the "Surviving as a Print Cartoonist" Panel at the Maine Comics Art Festival with fellow cartoonists Corey Pandolph (Barkeater Lake, Toby: Robot Satan, The Elderberries), Norm Feuri (Retail, Gill) and with Mike Lynch moderating. On the panel Lincoln revealed he is currently working with some animation and licensing projects including the addition of a Big Nate island to the online game Poptropica.
Last day of holidays so I got to burn through some books. Well, graphic novels for my kids that they got, but that I too enjoy.
Nate did not disappoint, although I did want more of the gerbil than the few panels we got. The gerbil had the best lines in the last edition.
Not much to say other than that if you have read any of these, you're not going to be disappointed but don't expect the characters to have changed much or for Nate to suddenly age ....
Full disclosure: I request the Big Nate titles from Netgalley because my 11 year-old really enjoys them. To me, they're inoffensive in the same vein as the classic Snoopy comic books. I read them, and they're pleasant, but they don't really resonate with me. That said, I am not the demographic for these comics. Here's a conversation I had with said 11 year-old about this latest Big Nate offering:
Me: So what did you think? E: I really enjoyed it. I think Big Nate is funny. Me: What did you like best? E: I liked that it took place during an entire school year, and that a gerbil was involved. Me: Was there anything else you really liked? E: There was a part about mini-golf that was pretty good. When is the next one coming out?
And there you have it! Thumbs up from this household!
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

MY THOUGHTS:
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Lincoln Peirce does it again. Funny as all get out, entertaining to the very end, and typical big Nate predicaments to enjoy. Yes, the fun of Big Nate remains the same since its hatching, but a pleasure and silliness for new eyes to enjoy. I like its consistency and “clean” sense of humor. It’s an easy read and comes with a collectible poster.
The style of the artwork is bright and fun, the book is full of a great supporting cast that add to Big Nate’s stories and the strip will remain one of my favorites for all time. I love to share my Big Nate books with neighborhood kids so that they can be introduced to Peirce’s talent enough to carry the torch well into the future. Can’t wait to see what else Peirce comes up with.
This is the first time I have to 'create' a book in Goodreads because I got an advanced reader copy from Netgalley and could not find the book to add my reviews too.

Review:
Nate got himself in quite a difficult situation where he decided to date older student however as DeeDee said 'trouble in paradise' and he breaks up with her. I'd feel bad about break up but the fact that Trudy was never a good fit. And this is Nate we are talking about and he just bounces back to normal in no time.

Big Nate is back! With more pranks, excuses and more fun! I loved reading this, it gave me such a nostalgic feel for some reason. It was a super quick read and I enjoyed it so much. The srt style is very easily readable which makes it very fun and keeps you going. The dialogue is very basic since it's a comic aimed at younger viewers and all the textbubbles are nicely readable so you don't have to guess what anything says.
It's hard to dislike a character as witty and full of lighthearted self-aggrandizement as Nate and a strip as full of fun and smart supporting castmembers. That said, it's been years since I've read Big Nate, and not much of anything has changed in that time; Nate has been a middle schooler since 1991 (and will be forever?). The realities of the newspaper strip, where characters and joke tropes stay essentially the same forever make the exceptions (Gasoline Alley and Doonesbury for starters) notable. This collection of strips are fun, but, like late stage Peanuts, the fun is tempered by knowing you've seen it all before.

A funny and ornery Nate in the life of a 6th grader. A comical layout that is comical in contend. A short spiel on the actual gerbil and I was beginning to wonder if there was gerbil. But forget about the gerbil, I forgot what drama there is in 6th grade. You have your favorite teachers and then you have those that know your number. You have the boy that seems to have it all and then you have Nate.
Nate is prankster so if you don't want your sixth grader getting any ideals, you might want to read this one so you have your sixth grader's number!
A Special Thank you to Andrews McMeel Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
Well this was fun!! Kids and adults alike will enjoy this new foray into Big Nate's world of school, home and summer vacation. I had never read one of the graphic novels [but have loved the comics in the newspaper], in fact, didn't even know they existed in book form until my eleven year old niece told me [because she loves them and will absolutely love this], so this is fun to know about as they are a fun escape from the craziness that is in the world today. I would recommend these books to anyone who loves the comics from the "funny pages" and is looking for a fun escape from daily life.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Another winner! My son read this book in one sitting, he enjoyed it tremendously. The only problem is that he gets through it too quickly and it seems like forever for the next release. I'm a huge advocate for inspiring children to read, especially boys since they seem to be the hardest group to inspire to be avid readers. A great graphic comic for young and old. And you can't beat the sounds of giggles from your kiddo while reading a book he doesn't want to put down.
Thank you Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the advance reading copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Another of those classical Big Nate comic. You know the style. Short silly one page cartoon comic, with a «narrative» that can stretch for some pages, sometimes quite a while actually. Funny, entertaining and just a fun read for kids. I’m more of a Calvin reader, but this one I think is the equivalent for a younger generation. Well done!
This collection of Big Nate from comic strips from Feb, 29, 2016 through Sept 4, 2016 follows Big Nate as he dates an older woman, makes a movie with new superhero, and trying to staying one step ahead of his teachers as he works his way through another school year. Laugh out loud zaniness as only Big Nate can bring.
Great Book I think it was top 10 Big Nate books. It was pretty good the only problem i have with it is the fact that this book Chad got bullied a lot. I know Chad being made fun of is usually one of the main jokes. But if they made a book where he doesn't get bullied and it's still pretty funny that would be one of the best books.
I think overall the Big Nate books that I've read are really good because they make me laugh make me feel happy and I actually enjoy reading when I red then. They are also very good time spenders and you end up reading more pages than ur goal.
When I first came across the earlier Nate books I thought they were fun enough, but not especially clever or insightful. Basically just school daze silliness and some typical recycled stuff. Well, one of us has grown up; or maybe both of us have. These books still aren't "edgy", but there are more and more pointed individual strips and story arcs in each collection, with this latest volume being a good example. Sure, there is a passing bit about the school gerbil, but there are fine story arcs covering jealousy, friendship, May/December romances, (i.e. sixth grade and seventh grade), and a surprising range of adult foibles. All of your favorite characters make appearances, and they too seem have grown up. Often they are the ones to deliver the punchlines after Nate has set up the gag.
So, it's always nice to see a new Nate on the shelf, and it's great that they seem to be getting better and better.

'Big Nate: The Gerbil Ate My Homework' by Lincoln Peirce is a collection of Big Nate comics about the perpetual 6th grade troublemaker.
This time around Nate uses the class gerbil to help destroy his homework. He also breaks up with his girlfriend and that has aftermath. He decides to shoot a superhero movie starring Chad. He proves why he is the king of Prank Day.
You can't go wrong with a Big Nate collection. They are all a lot of fun and I am always pleased to see another one show up.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
The book has a lot of funny parts. Sometimes the story is even relatable like dealing with the annoying couple who love each other too much or babysitting someone and trying to make them happy and also making a movie then asking other people watch their movie so it's has more views. It's just a great read from start to end. The trio Nate, Teddy, and Francis have good chemistry that makes them feel like actual students you would see in your school.

I read this to my 8 year old and she liked the story but she didn't love it.
I on the other hand thought it was funny and cute.
There were a couple things in the book that seem a little too old for her to understand. For example Twitter was mentioned and she has no idea what that is.
My 7 year old son LOVED this book. We read it together. He said our library should definitely buy it and that it's better than all the rest of the Big Nate books. "It's always just so funny," he told me. I'm concerned about the use of the word lame throughout the book. It is ableist language, so my son and I discussed it.
It is wonderful and it's so annoying seeing so many overprotective parents writing nasty reviews on it. My only problem is one line in this book nate says and I quote: "Good thing he can't compete with my smoldering sex appeal, or I might have to really hate him" to a a girl he is talking to about a boy he thinks is perfect. Prose (Story): Yet another entry in the New York Times bestselling series of comic collections featuring the hilarious, self-absorbed and wholly subversive middle schooler, Big Nate: The Gerbil Ate My Homework focuses on a new year in middle school for the little ... tyke.
Don's (Review): I don't know how many of these I've read now (Big Nate has been featured in comics for something like thirty years, so we're talking a lot), but as much as I very rarely have had a single negative thing to say about any Big Nate collection, somehow this one is even better than most; focusing on a new year in middle school during which (among other things) Nate breaks up with his girl, tries to pin his lack of homework skills on the hapless class gerbil, Sherman, and even turns his plump little friend and classmate Chad into a superhero by directing his first film, I laughed out loud even more at this school-focused collection that shows off Peirce's narcissistic little middle-schooler at his best. Or is it his worst? Either way, bring on some more of Big Nate - always. 4.5/5 stars
NOTE: I received a free ARC of this title from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
D loves reading this series and is happy to know that a bunch of new books have arrived to our library. He reads these in just a few days (7th grade). I love to hear him laughing out loud as he reads.
in a big nate books frenzy lately they r just so funny i missed a bunch of the recent installments again these r sooooo funny these r my favorite comic books for sure enjoyable for any age cuz theyre SOOOO FUNNYYYY
Big Nate was always a book I liked ever since I started reading it. Nate will always find a way to make you laugh even though it's just a book. I really like this book because I think this excuse has never been used before. But he should start going to class.
My 8 year old grandson and I read this together. He handled the book well and the pace was good. Comic book type books are very exciting and less intimidating for a young reader.
My grandsons favorite part was the gerbil section of the book.
For the same time I was talking about the same time I was in bed and ever I was in the 📖 I was there t shirt 👕 I read it as last time I was talking about
