Surviving Carson

Rate this book
My name is Everett Rivers, and I’m a runner. Not the kind that crosses the finish line either. No, I run from anything and anyone. It’s what I know, what I was raised to do. Like mother like daughter, right? So what happens when Mommy Dearest up and leaves without me, leaving me with nowhere else to run to? I have all but three choices,

1. Foster Care.

2. Juvenile Detention.

3. My long and not so lost brother on the East Coast.

The choice was simple. So I packed what little things I owned and ran right into the devil himself. Carson Andrews, my newest neighbor, classmate, and tormentor all wrapped in one. But I didn’t run this time, I stood my ground, no matter how badly I wanted to flee. I can handle a lot of things, but who knew the shattering of my heart wasn’t one of them?

*Warning, this is a bully romance that contains triggers and situations that may be uncomfortable for readers.

Not very pleased with this one... :/

Sadla, the H has very "unclear" idea of "clear lines" and is actually a huge hypocrite... tsk, tsk, tsk

Sucha bad behavior for such a young person...and he just didn't sit right with me, including all the shitstorm he caused for the heroine...

and the heroine...*sigh*

for a girl that has been to so much shit in her life, she seems very comfortable and forgiving...really?!

and third, this book sadly, has so many grammar mistakes that I just couldn't overlook it...sorry

and sometimes the dialogues made no sense, and they felt like they weren't complete, like the ended abruptly without actually delivering the complete idea...

ah...could have been better

Too rushed and just too wrong to enjoy

The price of this book was good. Real good, so I went for it... and am actually pretty disappointed. The story was too rushed, lacking real emotions, stupid FMC as well as MC. Their sexual encounters were somehow unbelievable and their actions towards each other as well. No, this book is not a good dark romance. It is a bad example of darka bully high school romance.

This book was HORRIBLE!! I mean I think the plot could have been good with some work.

I started this book and had to stop because within the first few pages there was sexual assault and it continued for about the first half.

But I pushed through because I don’t like to leave an unfinished book.

Also there was no reason Carson should have been so “attached” to Everett before he even knew her. It was very unhealthy.

WTF did I read?!?

The pro is that this book is free with KU. The bones of this story are good, but the lack of backstory for Carson makes it hard to sympathize with his douche stunts. For me to like him, I really needed reasoning to exactly why he treats Everette like crap. Everett was too easy on him especially with the way he bullied her. I have zero patience for wimpy female leads. There were several editing issue, but it you read it as fluff you might enjoy.

Everett and Carson spoilers included

This book was terrible. It had potential, but I hated it. First, it is a nightmare of grammatical and punctuational errors. So many misspelled words, even to and too. Who doesn’t know this by now??? Seems like spellcheck could have been used on lots of these issues. Commas are your friend! Use them to make sentences less confusing.

May have spoilers:

As to the storyline, Carson sexually assaults her by coercion. He takes her virginity under duress. He films her being assaulted by someone when she’s drunk, by an adult. He takes her home but doesn’t stop it, only stands by and films it. The assault doesn’t go all the way because she vomits. He took another photo of her in a sexual act. She’s 17 and it gets spread. This is child pornography. He claims he isn’t the one to spread them but he is definitely the one who took them. Somehow they get leaked. He finally calls a truce and stops tormenting her after she is sexually assaulted at school and beat up. Wow, he’s offended by this.

Finally at the end, after she is injured in a wreck, he says in a conversation he’s so sorry for everything he did and will work to make it out to her. Then a little bit later he says he doesn’t regret a thing he has done to her because it brought them to where they are: together and in love. Hello?? Wtf? He’s #sorrynotsorry . He needs to go.

God, I love this stiry

I just re-read this story and over 100 other books, because I was struck by one passage. I looked through every book searching for one key word until I finally found it. Carson is cruel from the start, but gradually his fee!ing change. Everett is fierce, strong, and troubled. Together they find their way to each other.

This was bad. There bits and pieces where the heroine knew stuff about the hero that wasn't even stated in the book. The synopsis had promise :/ I wanted more. More depth, more character development, more answers!

unfairly judged

I purchased this book wwaaayyy back and am just now getting around to reading it. After reading a short bit into the first few chapters, I was a little hesitant to continue after a particular scene. However, I went online to look at the reviews which had some spoilers and decided I would continue based on those. I must admit, the reviews may have unfairly judged this book. Yes, there are significant grammatical errors and some spelling errors but I was still able to understand what was trying to be said. (Except in one place, which I’m still confused about, but it’s not entirely relevant to the story - from what I can tell.) And I do agree there is not a whole lot of backstory for Carson and that the ending is ok…but I do feel like it could be a little better. Maybe the author is revising the story and that that’s why it was removed from Amazon? If so, I may reread it if it ever gets re-posted. Otherwise I would give it roughly 3 1/2 stars I’ve definitely read worse stories, but it’s also not yet a four-star story. OH! And there’s no trigger warning as far as I could find, but there really should be one in there. I mean it’s not too bad, but their relationship is not exactly within the normal realm of sexual situation either…

I just say I was pleasantly surprised!!

I started reading this book after reading some of the different reviews of it. So I went in expecting something and getting something totally different. I truly enjoyed this story and it's characters. I didn't feel Everett was a push over, she proved to be quite strong throughout the story. Carson might be a total jerk and some may not like the way he went about some things, but this story is literally the epitome of a dark, bully romance. However the reason it got four instead of five stars from me is because honestly it needs some work in the editing department. There were a lot of grammatical errors and issues with things just not being there all throughout the book. It is still a good read and I'm definitely glad I read it!!

This is such a mid read man, I wish I wouldn't have waisted my time. If your into nonsensical bullying called confused love from a hero and a herione who everyone shits on and she rolls over and takes a bunch of shit with out an ounce of logic or reason to explain her actions or all the shitty peoples in her life, then this is the book for you. Nearly all of the sex scenes where really rape, but "her body didn't lie". I read a lot of nonconsensual erotica/ romance books, so its not even the fact that he raped her, but it was just lazily and sloppily written and explained, just pure bs really. Don't waste your time like I did.

Loved it

Everett runs to her older brother when her mother disappeared. She runs into Carson who hates her on site. The relationship between Huston the older brother and Everett is strained. Carson is the person you love to hate. It was a good read first book from this author will be reading more.

I have to say that this was one of the worst books I've read so far. I mean the storyline could'nt even be called a decent plot. Sure events were in an order and all but it was soo wrong that I don't even have anything more to add to this.

Very dissapointed!

This book was a bit frustrating because it actually had some really good parts but there was absolutely no build up and therefor completely missed on the delivery. It was so rushed. I feel like the author was just rushing to get to all the good parts and ultimately it ended up extremely lacking.

Everette was a bit TSTL and rather immature. She was constantly getting into fist fights and she just came across like a petulant child who had absolutely no control. And speaking of petulant children, I really honestly couldn’t stand Bailey. She was a little brat and I found myself wanting to smack her every time her character popped up.

As for Carson...his character really had potential for being a great alpha, antihero but the author just missed with him. There was no consistency with his character. In one paragraph he’s being all sweet with Bailey and in the next paragraph, he’s trying to force Everette into a blowjob. Only to flip in the very next paragraph and be all overbearing and caring for Everette... 🤔

I just couldn’t keep up with the pacing of this book. Everything was so rushed and muddled.

Okay I'm sad to say this but I'm disappointed in this book. It started off okay, but became too rushed, too scattered, and honestly quite unrealistic. The story line had so much potential, but sadly I feel the author didn't connect with this book well.

What I hated about it is the following...

1. Lack of editing
2. Rushed story line
3. Unrealistic relationship development
4. Failed plot

Again, it had potential but like so many other people have said in their own reviews, it really does seem like the author just put together a book based on her favorite scenes from other romance books.

The flow wasn't there. The character development wasn't there. Truly sad because I was hoping the bad reviews were wrong. Oh well...onto the next.

It seemed like a different take on a troupe I love. I was disappointed by this book, Carson's assholery could have been accepted longer if I actually liked Everett. But I didn't. At first she's all hardcore but AS SOON as he even SPEAKS to her her backbone disappeared. I even read the last chapter to try and suck me back in but there was no real "conclusion". After all the shitty things he did and the way she was treated he says I love you so much and they live happily ever after. Only really we don't know that, because he says I love you then she starts reflecting on how her life is changed. I have never been able to accept endings like this in books with so much drama because there's no feeling of finality there.

This was not for me.

Great bully romance!

There are some editing issues, but I didn't find them distracting. This was an amazing bully romance. There are some unfinished issues, and I wish there was an epilogue. The ending felt super rushed. This book is seriously full of angst. Carson does some vile stuff, but he really does redeem himself. I just wish we had more clarity about why he acted the way he did. I didn't love Everett. I love a strong willed heroine, but she came off very irritating and selfish. I also didnt like how prone to violence she was. All in all, this was a really good book, and I would definitely read it again. This was my first book by Leigh, and I look forward to reading her other work.

1.5 🌟

The bones of this story are quiet good, but the lack of backstory for Carson is underwhelming and lacks reasoning to exactly why he treats Everette like crap. Everett was too easy on him especially with the way he bullied her. It was at times pretty damn harsh! I would have made him work for it more.

There are quiet a few misused words example : here instead of hear, missing words
Things like this just takes a reader right out of the flow of the story and it really sucks.

With some reversions more editing and maybe add some more backstory to Carson I think this could be easily be a 4 star read.

I don't know why it fell flat for me, it lacked a certain depth. I hardly knew anything about the hero, his status, his family, his friends, the overall dynamic between him and his people. All I got was bare facts. The same goes for the heroine, though to a lesser extent.

Also, it's a sad sight when a writer doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're". One or two mistakes is fine, but a dozen? English is not my native language, but I never mixed those two up, it's literally basic grammar. Yikes!

Ummm.... Just no....

I gave this book 2 stars for the simple fact that I liked some parts. Key word is some. All the rest of the book I didn't like at all. It had potential but in the end it just didn't work for me. The ending is what made me realize I wouldn't ever like this book. It was rushed and tied up like a perfect little bow. To hell with that. With everything that the author made happen to the main character for it to end that way just kind of sucked. A lot.

Bully romances are great...when done right

This one, sadly, had lots of potential, but only left me with a bad taste in my mouth over a horribly weak and pathetic h who couldn't stand up for herself and just kept coming back for more and ends up spewing out apologies to everyone who consistently treated her like crap so we have everything ending up tied all nice and pretty with a bow. Such a disappointing read.

I loved this book! I didn't notice any mistakes because I was thoroughly engaged in the story, I wasn't just picking out every single thing that was wrong. I thought the story developed well and ended on a clear note, I will be reading more from this author in the future and hope she writes Noah's story next!
