People say that being in love is the best feeling in the world.
What a bloody lie!
I hate that I’m in love with Serena and that she used me to get what she wanted.
What good is it that my heart and body is a twisted mess of longing for her when I’m also furious with her for hurting my sister, River?
I don’t care if Serena is a Hollywood star — no one messes with my family!

Nathan is a man with too many ghosts in his past to stand still and face them. After being dismissed from the army for anger management issues, he’s traveling the world and setting records in extreme sports.

When a plot to get back at Serena for hurting his sister goes wrong, Nathan is front and center in a media storm that brings up his tragic past once again. This time, there’s no outrunning it. Nathan will need to prove that he’s more than what the media portray him as. But what if the media are also wrong about Serena?

Nathan’s story is the fourth installment in Elin Peer’s romance series, Cultivated. Readers find it impossible to put down and rave about the characters jumping off the page.

To avoid spoilers, this series is best read in order.

Nathan – Cultivated #4 will be available on Amazon as a paperback and e-book at the end of April 2020.

Here's the problem that I have with this story. While I love a Hero who is protective & loyal to his family, if he is not that way with heroine, then the author loses me. And unfortunately this is what happens here. I got halfway through and realized that Hero's actions towards heroine (even if he justified it because he was hurt of what he perceived of heroine & because he was trying to defend his sister) did not redeem him in my eyes.

For one, HE never apologized for his actions of betraying her the way he did. Yes, he confessed his actions but I don't remember him saying "I'm sorry". Instead, he turned his wrongdoings around and told heroine it was her fault for agreeing to the subterfuge that her team forced her into! (aka fake engagement with co-star). What about HIS actions? Why did heroine continue to have amnesia every time he betrayed & used her?

Nothing makes me angrier then when a hero betrays a heroine in a story (whether it is cheating or something else) and the heroine is somehow at fault and he gets a pass!

Whether one agrees or not, the fact was that HE was the one that seeked revenge without having all his facts and without asking heroine for explanation!

HE made unfair assumptions based on what he saw & believed, rather then fight to get answers.
HE chose family over a woman he had feelings for!
HE chose to continue the revenge (aka photos) even after heroine told him the truth and could have easily contacted Kit right away and told her not to send them or even confess to heroine what was about to happen!
And it was HEROINE who pursued him each time. Would he have even bothered if she didn't reach out or made the first move?

Ugh! I hate self righteous characters who place the blame on others and don't accept their actions!

PS: I realize people who haven't read this may not make much sense, so in a nutshell - Hero's sister is dating heroine's co-star. Hero & heroine meet and it's an instant attraction but it takes a year before they start anything.

Heroine who is an actress is asked by her studio to pretend to be engaged to her co-star (Hero's sister BF) for publicity. She thinks that her costar has talked it out with his GF & she was on board with the fake relationship but it turns out he lied to her and dumped the sister. Heartbroken, the sister, Hero & a friend of theirs seek revenge on Heroine & the BF by having Hero seduce heroine and take a photo to humiliate them.

When the truth comes out the night Hero is seeking his revenge by seducing heroine, she kicks him out before they have sex. Then the next day, the photo is given to the ex BF and he publishes it and it makes heroine look like a cheating whore & a man stealer.

Is Hero repentant or concerned that he may have damaged her career or her life? Not really. He goes on interview to defend his SISTER and denies that anything more then a kiss happened with heroine and that he even knows her!

Heroine on the other hand, in her interview is very complementary towards him!

Then they both decide to go on vacation somewhere to get away from the press and it is heroine who invites herself on his vacation after just learning he was going to seduce her to get revenge on his sister!

And it is during this time that asshole Hero decides to confess the rest of it (the pic leaked) that she is once again hurt that he used her. But he turns it around by saying that had she not got herself in the lie in the first place, his sister wouldn't have been hurt!!

Ummm...hello? Why didn't he or his sister reach out to her and ASK her if it was the truth or not? Why should heroine have been blamed anyway is besides the point because she wasn't in a relationship with Hero then and SHE didn't cheat on his sister! The revenge didn't make sense. It would have made sense if it was directed at the ex-BF and not at heroine. They destroyed her reputation and career and he wasn't sorry or regretful at all. And that's when I was out. DNF.

Oh Boy Talk About Backfire Big-time!!!
Nathan sets out to seduce Serena to get revenge for what she did to his sister. Nathan and River have always had each other’s backs but something feels off. Complex and damaged from a childhood that scared them all for life. They only trust each other.
What ensues is a media storm of epic proportions not in there favor. It’s not easy,it’s not safe but it’s what I’ve come to love about this author.
This is a great story about overcoming every obstacle to find your forever.
River’s story is next and I have a feeling it’s gonna be the hardest of all. Bring it on!!

Is it ok to be jealous of a character in a book? Because I may be jealous of Serena.

Nathan, our title character is just such an amazing guy. He's alpha without being overwhelming, caring without being overbearing and sweet without being too soft. The fact that he was willing to "play" Serena in their first meeting in the book shows that he is fallible and not Mr Perfect. Which only made him more relatable and human. Serena is equally likable and "real", a victim of the media storm which surrounds them, but also not totally innocent of indulging in the publicity machine.

There are hidden depths to this story. Questions asked and situations created that on one level bring entertainment and enjoyment, but also designed to make you consider the impact of how your words and actions can have a deep impact on others. I loved how Elin Peer brought us a story about trust, not just of trusting the other person but of trusting yourself and your emotions. Trusting your heart and instincts.

This is so much more than just a romance, it's very different to your "typical" romance. Unlike most stories, the love, the connection, the declarations are the easy part - it's life and circumstances that throw spanners into the works. And its how the protagonists face these challenges, how they choose to react, that sets this authors work apart from so many others. There are no "too stupid to live" moments, no ridiculous and highly unlikely decisions, no forced conflict. Just a wonderful and absorbing story.

When you have a trauma as a child, will it also cause you to have problems in your adult life? Nathan still has the fears/nightmares from that yellow snake used to torment him as a child. Helping out his sister who he thought had been wronged by her friend, gave him the incentive to help her with retaliation. Someone in that romance triangle wasn't honest and will use the media to their advantage. They don't care who gets hurt. Can Nathan and the woman he loves use the media to help them out and to help out his sister? Can they survive from the media storm and have real love? Can you believe what the media says about a celebrity? How do you have a relationship when cameras follow you everywhere? You need to get creative and have friends who help you out to get the privacy you need. Nathan jumps through hoops to try and have that relationship. Can he get his happy ever after or will the media sink his hopes for a relationship with a movie star?

The author provided an ARC book for my honest opinion of this book. Let’ just say, I am still “swooning” over this book. The author presents the real life struggles of relationships and what the people involved do to make the relationship work. of Nathan and later Serena. Nathan has had a hard life growing up. Living in a cult has resulted in him developing trust issues. Connor, the cult leader is trying to break Nathan. Nathan fights back. Dreaming about the “yellow snake” resulted in this reader looking up the meaning of the symbol of this snake and its meaning. It was so true of that it represented, being afraid of something in your waking life, transformation, evil or knowledge. Does Connor know something that Nathan doesn’t. Serena is an actress. Is she used to getting everything she wants and needs. Nathan’s and Serena getting together will be wrought with many difficulties. Can their love overcome the obstacles. Stay tuned for a good read.

This is my new favorite. This one touched me on so many levels. It's more than just another romance. It has all the things to be a great romance! The characters are outstanding! But this one makes you look at things on a deeper level. You take a second look at the story but also at yourself and your feelings and actions. A reflection of what is going on. It is a must have book. Check it and the series iut. You won't be disappointed! I am voluntarily leaving my review after reading an advance reader copy of the book from the author and I bought it!

This book was about getting to love by having to traverse through Many Difficult Obstacles. Not just outside of the family, but within as well.

The question is, will Ms. Peer allow a happy ending? Or will Nathan and Serena have to forget their chemistry?

I loved getting to know Nathan, and River a bit more too! Time will tell if all the Robertson's will find a true love. I'm wondering too, when we'll get to go to a wedding?

I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Intriguing. A totally different type of love story. Being angry with Serena and being in love with her at the same time, is totally different. The characters are definitely interesting. Can’t wait for the next one.

Great addition to a fabulous series. Nathan and Serena’s story was about seeing past the smoke and mirrors until you can see what’s reality and what’s not and the way it was written was perfect and kept my interest piqued throughout the book!

Nathan...

The heart wants what the heart wants. The mind is often cold, with no emotions. It's hard to balance a decision based on both. I think Nathan was brilliant at keeping his feeling open to Serena. And ofcourse the feelings was reciprocated. There circumstance is the hardest to get though. However the shined in the end. How many of us fall back because a division is to hard.

Nathan and his mother were both effected by their relationship with Connor the madman leader of the Cult. As a small child Connor convinced Nathan that he was going crazy. Connor created a horrifying situation that purposely cause Nathan physical and mental terror then convince Nathan that the situation was completely his imagination and never happened. Nathan's life growing up in a cult was a nightmare. As an adult he has problems connecting with women and committing to relationships until he met Selena. Selena helped him find his purpose.

Selena is a successful actress who fell for Nathan at first sight. When it appears that Selena steals Rivers boyfriend the family decides on a plan to get revenge. Unfortunately Nathan is the catalyst used to enforce their vengeful plan. The plan backfires in the worse way. Nathan and Selena become targets of malicious news reporting and internet bullying by people who believe everything that is written. Nathan and Selena take life into their own hands and give-in to the attraction they feel for eachother. I loved their journey as they overcame the adversities of public scrutiny.

I am really enjoying this series about the lives of the children who were victims of a cult led by Connor. Every book is dedicated to one character but in every book all the characters are revisited. I like that. Even though I am enjoying this series, my favorite is still the first book in the series Charlie. Even though River seems very self centered I am looking forward to reading her story.

The illusion is that anyone can write a romance. The reality is that not everyone can write a story that draws you in and takes you on the journey with the characters, Elin Peer does that in spades. Her characters aren't always the best of people and yes they have flaws. The romance isn't about jumping in the bed it's about the two people and all of their troubles and successes. Nathan is the epitome of that, he's got issues i spades, he's been torn up battered and abused and yet he has made it to the other side and actually found someone that just might be more. Stupid mistakes and a desire to protect his sister leads him into a dark avenging circle.

She has dealt with the press, the lies the manipulation that goes with the territory. The question becomes do two wrongs make a right? This is a story of trust and how easily it can be manipulated or destroyed, how fragile and fine that line can become. It's not an insta love type of read. It gets down and dirty at times even dealing with true life too close to home. Is Nathan perfect? OH HELL to the NO!! That in itself is one of the things that make this authors books awesome. It's an emotional read that will have you clearly checking your inner moral compass and facing your own questions. It's a great addition to the series and gives us answers to who Nathan really is and the impact of his time at the Manor.

Nathan- the fourth book in the series Cultivated by Elin Peer.
Nathan was just a kid when he and his mother lived in a cult led by Conor O´Brien in The Red Manor. The only thing left after the disaster is a tape and the nightmares in the survivors ´ memories.
Nathan chose a career in the army and was a good fighter and soldier. When a trainer abused two women he defended them. He was the one taking the blame and was dismissed from the army.
When his sister River is betrayed by her best friend Serena he steps in to help her take revenge. The media is full of publicity around the romance between the two film celebrities Serena and Storm, River´s Xboyfriend. Nathan has Serena appear to be dating him and that makes the media even happier because it brings focus on the new film the two stars are acting in and promoting.
The blame is on Nathan and the old story about how he had hurt the trainer and had to leave the army made him a prey for the media. And what if his background in the cult comes up?
Nathan and his family look at the tape together and Nathan is freed from misconceptions now sharing and facing the truth.
It takes a lot to handle the media. Eventually Nathan can find a way to work with what has driven him - to teach women to protect themselves and also finding the real love that seemed so impossible for a person like him to even wish for.

MR. NOBODY IS THE MAN!

Nathan’s story was a little difficult to read. To constantly have to prove yourself beats a person down...from the abuse that Nathan experienced with Conor and no one believing him to having his family doubting his character was troubling. But it unfolded very nicely...I was rooting for Nathan and Serena. Both experienced shameful responses from their family about their judgment even if they didn’t do it hatefully it was disrespectful and it felt like Nathan had to always try and prove his innocence or rational. Yet through it all they persevered! Serena loved her man (side note, dude on cover is NICE...VERY NICE and he is not my type) and she HAD HIS BACK, they had something special and not only did she love Nathan she knew him. That ish made me feel all tingly inside...I just loved the way they loved each other, not a bad or disappointing read but a lot of freaking Hollywood drama.

Oh another kudos is for E.P.’s writing...the chapter Mr. Nobody was the BEST FREAKING CHAPTER I have EVER read about a person’s character...GREAT FREAKIN JOB! Thinking about how you summed up Nathan made me change my review to five stars...thats whats up!

Book#4 Nathan's story will break your heart, make you want to cry, scream, shout, hurt someone on his behalf. When he believes something is wrong he tries to right it but things don't always goes the way he hopes but he pushes on even though the road may be rough, He fell hard and he was taking not prisoner's except Serena. And Serena seems to think her career is more important than her personal life and she cannot honestly remember why once she sees Nathan again and kisses him. They to spend time together because their is something between them that so good and right they cannot ignore it and after all the mess the kiss caused, they try to move forward and end up in a tryst in Sweden. This was a tragic and heart warming romantic love story inside the Entertainment world. How lives can be effected through the media and how they influence people far left or right, depending how information is being shoved out through the social media and what it can do to peoples lives whether the information is accurate or not. I was given an ARC from the author without obligations. I am providing an honest review.

Have you read Elin Peer's works? If not, then you have no idea the level of work this author brings to everything she writes. "Nathan", the fourth book in the "Cultivated" series is no exception. If you're reading my review then I'm guessing you've already read the description of the story and other reviews before mine so there's really no need to give you a synopsis of this book. What I will do is sing the praises of Ms. Peer for her level of depth in not only her world-building but for her characters as well. This is not the average romance you're probably used to reading. Saying the words I love you is easy and usually, the circumstances that force a decision or are fate induced work themselves out wonderfully. I can always depend on Elin to bring a bit of realism to her stories. You know, that thought-provoking set of circumstances or conversation that bring about a true to life reaction or decision. Heroes and heroines are built on their reactions to these events and I'm always amazed by how much each of these makes me ponder my own reaction. This was a great read and I can't wait to read River's story.

Thoroughly engaging…
Cultivated is an awesome series – each book is better than the last or rather, each book can stand on its own and none disappoints. I loved reading Nathan. The writing just flows and the realism of the character depictions and dialogue is perfect. The uniqueness of Serena and Nathan’s love story is that it deals mostly with confronting the perceptions of others which is hyped by so-called journalists and the mass media – so apropos to today’s current awakening.

The fact that so many people buy into the sensationalism and lies and then can set off a social media frenzy that is hurtful and destructive is a real issue in our high-tech society that Elin Peer handles delicately but definitely shines a light on. Thus, this novel is fitting to the times and should appeal to true romance lovers and seekers of truth.

Inner struggles and emotions are revealed as is typical of this series and others by Elin Peer and culminate in honest and gratifying conclusions. Getting to intimately know each member of the Robertson clan has been intriguing and entertaining and I look forward to more pleasurable reading.

The start of this one is like an old episode of I Love Lucy, you just knew it would end up being screwed up and come back to bite everyone involved and it sure did, just not how they thought. From there things got ugly as everyone and their brother weighed in on-line and in so many tabloid articles that Nathan and Serena didn't have a chance. They took what they knew of part of the story and condemned them. I felt bad for them, because each time they thought they had it under control something would happen to make it worse.

Finally at the end Serena made a bold choice, one that could have backfired again, but it didn't. It made people think of things they didn't, see the full picture instead of just part. I liked how Serena and Nathan saw that first hand when they stumbled upon the comic, he made some great points and I'm glad that they took the time to talk to him.

The ending to this one was perfect. Nathan and Serena living their lives on their terms with all their family there to support them.

After what Nathan went through in the Cult with his mother and being more or less mentally tormented, I was very eager to get Nathan's story. These books have the ability to suck you in and get you emotionally invested in the characters as if they were real people. Serena like all movie stars seems untouchable, but is actually really down to earth and insecure. Nathan on the other hand is best described as an Alpha male with a troubled past. Outwardly he portrays that persona in every way, but from his point of view we are able to see that at his core he is super sweet, caring and his actions are led by that. Both Serena and Nathan are flawed like all people, and products of their upbringing. Elin Peer has the ability to create such diverse and complex characters, and you are able to see that in this book. If you like a good love story, an alpha male with a troubled past, and a well deserved HEA this one is for you!

This book is way more sexy than any of her other books. I LOVE the way Nathan was with Serena. He was loving, caring but in charge. We did learn a lot more about River in this book. I enjoy the families cameos. That’s always great. I hate the paparazzi, this shows how much they lie. I like reading books with smart women like her agent, and the reporter Lucille. Their families history won’t just go away. I like how doing something wrong backfires. I hate how women don’t come forward and act like they did something wrong when someone tries to sexually harass them. I really hate Connor more too. It does show how trauma can still affect you years later, even without video evidence. That video was spine chilling. This book makes you think about some of the injustices and bad things about our society. I like the authors books I always feel like I have to think on something’s I’ve read in her books.

This book did not cause me to tear up even once, even though it was full of emotional plot action. I think it was because I was in my head, so fascinated by the way the author carried out the cult theme in both the strengths and the weaknesses of the characters who were taken into the cult as children: how the dramatic incidents in their life affected their choice of careers, decisions at turning points, and choice of partners. Then the whole mob reaction to social media and its likeness to the psyche of cult followers. And not to forget, the psychopathic ways of those who manipulate the press and mob mood for their own advantage just as a cult leader does. Elin Peer is a most gifted author on so many fronts. I'd like to mention her perfect grammar, spelling, and punctuation that has become precious in this day of self-publishing. I highly recommend this read!

Wow, talk about a major misunderstanding. Nathan tries to help his sister, River, get revenge on a major movie star. Serena supposedly seduced River's boyfriend and is now engaged to him. Nathan plans on getting Serena to kiss him while a photographer gets a picture of it. That's where the whole thing goes haywire. There is chemistry between Nathan and Serena. How they act upon those feelings develop into quite a story that Elin is a master at writing. I loved getting to know a little more about Nathan and River.
This series is about the children who survived living in a cult and how they overcome some major problems as they reach adult hood. Each book is a stand alone but is best if read in order as the characters intermingle throughout all the books.
I received this book as an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

≈≈≈ Nathan & the Star …will they shine or just blow up?
The children of the Red Manor have grown up and each has their own set of issues that they have worked through or continue to work on. The beginning of Nathan’s story felt like going back home to your favorite chair, you’ve been here before, so get comfortable. The story weaves through twists and turns and you’re not sure that Nathan and Serena are going to make it to their HEA. Serena’s family is definitely not on board with their beloved daughter/sister being connected in any way with Nathan. Maybe this time the dare devil Nathan has taken on more than he can handle?
This series is amazing - you definitely want to get in on this series! Kudos Elin Peer!

Another amazing book in this series. Nathan and Serena's story is slightly different to the others in that although other members of the family are involved, the story focuses on the two of them. Nathan was wronged so many times in his past he just wanted to settle down with the love of his life...Serena.
As a famous actress she was always in the spotlight. She was attracted to Nathan but ended up being engaged to Storm (an actor)who was Nathan's sisters ex. This is a love story full of secrets, lies, deceit and heartbreak and it was hard to see a happy ever after.
Supposedly love conquers all and after getting to know these characters better, I found myself willing Elin Peer to give us a happy ending
This was the best story of love in this series!!

A really lovely romance. River devises a scheme whereby her brother Nathan meets with Serena and kisses her while his accomplice takes a secret photo. They send it to River's boyfriend Storm in revenge for his betraying River with Serena. Oh what a tangled web and it backfires big time! The press picks up the story and embellishes it completely out of proportion and causes pain for several innocent people. The story underscores the drawbacks of celebrity and the ruthlessness of the paparazzi. Throughout, the romance between River and Serena is beautifully written. All the books in this series are lovely and each can be read as a standalone but reading them in order enhances the overall effect. Very enjoyable and I highly recommend it!

Another book worth reading

Having truly enjoyed Elin Peer's Men of the North series, I had decided to read her Cultivated series when I saw it show up on Kindle Unlimited.

I have just completed Nathan. Nathan and Serena 's story hits me as a reflection of how complicated life can be and the choices one makes while navigating a relationship. In a nutshell, a man dumped Nathan's sister to have a relationship with Serena. Nathan in doing what he felt was the right thing to do, uncovered a far reaching falsehood. But then Nathan falls in love with Serena. Beyond their story, Elin Peer delves into the world of Hollywood. I found this book had many factors to keep my interest and I enjoyed reading another of Elin Peer's creations.
