Is a fact based Western set in Texas, nearly a decade after the civil war. A gruesome murder takes place which pressures the local sheriff to quickly find the murderer of a popular local family. The case goes cold until a local man, a former slave comes forward as a key witness prompting the case to unfold. The suspect is a respected man and the town of a former southern territory must decide who they will believe, a respectable local man or a former slave as the trial draws near. The local sheriff must balance justice in his town as it becomes a test. A test of restrained justice.
As a current law enforcement, I offer my experience to anyone looking for insight in gaining knowledge in how crimes are solved whether you are a writer or an avid reader wanting to seek a law enforcement perspective. I work in South Texas where I have lived my entire life apart from military service. I was inspired to write my first book about local crimes that are part of my agency’s history. In my debut book Legend of the Gatorman, I wrote a book about a legend that has been told in a fiction aspect based on the murders committed by Joseph Ball during the late 1930’s. I include fact-based writing based on research and experience in my books. I am excited to have completed two more books due to be released in late 2019 or early 2020.
This is a fantastic factual book based on western crime. There are murder, lynchings, a trial and cowboys. A look into the way lawmen sought justice protecting the innocent and the insuring a man faced justice for his crime even if it meant protecting the accused. I had never heard of this story and it was amazing. It includes a woman who is loyal to her husband that may be her assailant and a struggle of a former slave to be heard for what he witnesses. If you love crime and the old-wild west then this book is definitely for you!
This is the first book I've read by Christopher Molleda. I really enjoyed it. I loved how it was inspired by true events. I'll definitely be reading more by him.
I received a copy of this book through good reads for an honest review.
