There are a few lives lived more over the top than that of the man known as the Chairman of the Board, leader of The Rat Pack, and the World's Greatest Entertainer. This Docubook narrated documentary provides a candid account of the private relationships, heartbreaks and triumphs so astonishing and intriguing that parts sound like fiction. Frank Sinatra's friends and fans recount the story of his life on stage and behind colosed doors. Sammy Davis, Jr., Henry Winkler, Ann Miller and many others talk about his generosity, his passion for song, and his penchant for temptation. The legend and the legacy, the secrets long hidden from the public eye, money and morality are all revealed here. Most of all, this is the story of the man who did it his way.
"Start spreading the news,,,,this audio book isn't worth listening too"!!! This wins my award for "Worst Sound Achievement of 2023" It sounds as if it was recorded though a tin can and string in an old phone booth! Frank Sinatra might have done it :his way", but whatever way that was we do not know after listening to this story told. The editors want to wash away the troubled past of Sinatra's old mob connections and it is almost comical how fast they blow by these times in his life. You do find out some interesting things such as his upbringing in Hoboken, N.J. and how at the end of WWI, that city was made a "dry town" as the Navy tried to keep the returning sailors from getting drunk in the saloons there. This gave the bar owners an "advance" to learn how to beat the system when Prohibition started shortly thereafter. Thus the mob came into town and Frank grew up with these guys all around him You see here how many times Sinatra had to re-invent himself to keep jump starting his up and down career. It is surprising to see how much difficulty the "Chairman of the Board " had in getting a job. There are many cameo drop in interviews with his old friends in the telling of this story.
