Interstellar Hereafter #3

Deciphering Alyssa

Rate this book
From the Thirteen Races' side of the universe comes another story. A love story. Somewhat unconventional. Between a human woman and the Tul-Khamin Prince of The People, his Prime Dagger and his advisor…

Nobody knows much about Alyssa Morgan. People steer clear of her. Because she’s crazy. Because she doesn’t speak. Because she reminds them of the traumas they all faced.

It's been six months since Alyssa arrived at the Colony. And it made little difference to her.

The Union’s Warriors saved her, but the sense of true freedom continues to elude her. Surrounded by her people, she feels utterly alone. Isolated. Disconnected.

All Alyssa wants is to feel normal. Not stuck.

So, she gets drunk and sneaks into Avery's new shuttle. Only the shuttle turns out to be a Tul-Khamin Royal starliner. And she wakes up too late, halfway to Prince Arad's homeplanet.

Once again, events are out of her control. But this time, the outcome seems more favorable. For all transports are banned during the Sun Festival and she gets to spend some time with Arad and his advisor, Mactrosti. Then, she meets Sellion Gardur, the Prime Dagger.

Sure, she is threatened by traitors and almost killed in the meantime. But Alyssa thinks it’s worth it. She has friends here. She feels… she feels like she belongs.

A/N: Science fiction adventure romance, with space opera elements. Trope: reverse-harem. The third installment in the Interstellar Hereafter series. A story about new beginnings, overcoming trauma and making new friends.

Rhea V. May

Rhea has once swooped down on a winged sea serpent and defeated a giant with one clean stroke of her mighty sword. She has scaled spires as tall as mountains and skipped across roofs at breakneck speeds. She has traveled to another galaxy inside a soap bubble and ate fluffy marshmallows with a bunch of aliens.

She has...

No, not really.

But she is (and always be) a storyteller. Because whenever she feels lost, stories are what she needs to bounce back. To that end, she finally committed to putting her mind’s designs to paper. And with each story, she reclaims a little more of her real self.

Rhea also likes lists, cats, and coffee. She abhors lies, tardiness, and steadfast seriousness.

I really love how all the books in the series are connected, but also stand apart from the rest. The world created by the author is mind blowing, and to be honest, I can't remember any of the races because it's all so complex for my mortal mind.

From the second book, I wasn't such a big Alyssa fan, but I think the author managed to portray her in a very interesting way, up from her non-speaking to her development. I think that creating a character for which you write in third person and don't get to characterize through her own words is extremely difficult, but it worked here.

I've never read reverse harem before, and I don't know why not. It sounds great, and I'm clearly intrigued. Because who could even choose from all those men? *shouts Arad from rooftops*

Definitely I'm curious about what's coming next.

The story could have been AMAZING. Instead it was a shallow read that kept feeling as if it would get deep at some point. There are hints at what the main character has gone through but is about the only significant part of the story with depth. Everything else, especially close to the end, might as well not have been written because any experienced reader could pretty much see it coming.
