A dead simple job. What could go wrong?
Lucky and crew are looking forward to sleepwalking through a basic contract on a backwater mining world. It reminds Lucky of some of his favorite missions as a Frontier Marine.

But from the moment they enter orbit, nothing is as it seems. The job is wrong. Their contact is even more wrong.

Soon enough, they find themselves underground, underwater, and most definitely out of their depth.

Far from a rebellion in progress, they find a heist underway.

And the ultimate prize could reshape human history.

Rebellion is the second book in Lucky's Mercs, an action-packed new series that reads like an unholy union of Starship Troopers and Firefly.

Another great and hoping there’s a lot more to come. A job that seems simple turns out much more difficult and dangerous. Don’t miss out.

This time, Lucky and crew embark on what is billed as an easy contract, but it turns out that nothing is as it should be.  Character development and scene descriptions are excellent and pull you right into the story.  The action is non-stop, with a well-thought-out plot that keeps you riveted to the book.  I received an ARC of this book; this is my honest opinion.  I enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading he next book in the series.

Book 2

Book 2 was a fun read a nd had errors throughout. The plot has developed well and the characters have grown a lot. The plot was somewhat predictable, but overall fun to read. I look forward to book 3.

Again Lucky gets a simple job that turns very bad and threatens his crew. Money is needed but better missions are really necessary and when they arrive it turns bad fast.
Good read and it makes you want read the next book.

With Lucky and his group of misfits mercenaries nothing ever goes as planned. What was supposed to be an easy job of squelching a uprising of miners turned into a fight for their lives. Great story with lots of action. Can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

A fun read

All the action you can expect from the series, although it helps to have read it in order. Otherwise it seems to be missing a chapter at the beginning

We get to experience Spider’s origin story in this volume! It’s quite fascinating. All we know so far is that she’s an AI in a brain-dead human body, where normally AIs have to co-exist with a living mind. There are also hints that she has some unusual abilities.

The mining station is under water, and the geography and topology of how it’s structured is integral to much of the action. It’s creative and fun, with plenty of tense moments.

I really can’t get into much more without spoilers. I’ll just say that there was one question I felt should have been answered a little better; there’s a cliffhanger in this volume (I hate cliffhangers!); and of course I’m giving you a content note for Lucky’s particular brand of Hate-fueled hyper-violence.

Consider my rating a 4.5

I love this universe and the characters, centred around Lucky himself who we've come to know across several books. I didn't feel the story was quite as compelling as in book 1 and I also found the ending more frustrating. In book 1, it felt like a complete story, albeit with a clear opening to aspects that would make an appearance in book 2. In this book though, I felt I was left hanging like an eighties TV series cliff hanger. That's the reason for a 4 rather than a 5 star score.

**** SPOILER ALERT ****
James delivers an action packed space opera in "Rebellion: Lucky's Mercs Book 2".
The author continues to deliver great world building and character development. James also sets a breakneck pace in the action.
Blight rears his ugly head again and we are introduced to a new alien race
I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining, easy to read tale.
Q: Will Lucky and his mercenaries survive meeting Knives' sister?
Q: What's down in the mines?
A: Grab this book and find out.
In the interest of transparency: I was given a free review copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing this review.
It is my own honest opinion.

Lucky and his team think they are on a simple job but of course things go sideways as trouble happens. I laughed through most of the book when I was not moaning. They have a specific kind of luck. The characters are fun and the adventure amusing and just fun to read. I love to see what happens next in this crazy series.

Fun and entertaining as always. Lucky is a great character, fully fleshed out. The added depth of the "Hate" character only adds to the fun. For the most part, that aspect of Lucky isn't as prevalent anymore. I enjoy these novels, but the short coming is that you can only save the universe so many times before you run out of things to write about. A shortcut with the Blight also king f takes the wind out of that part of the sails.
Overall as always, a good read.
Fun spending time with an interesting character named "Lucky."

Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. Taking any contract to survive can lead you down a rabbit hole; for Lucky and his crew not getting a full disclosure will put everyone through absolute hell. Secrets can you if you can't unravel them before they blow up. A very crazy journey with lots of hilarious profanity; this series is off to a most brilliant start. Highly recommended.

Wow, another non-stop action fest! This second book in the "Mercs Series" doesn't leave you time to take a breath. The descriptions of the fight scenes are gripping and visceral, and there is lots of death and mayhem.. and some swearing, if you like this kind of book then you'll be very happily entertained.
But it does end on a cliffhanger... so I hope the next book is coming soon!

Good edition. Seemed short.

Maybe it was the pace but this seemed shorter than normal.
Good story line though. I liked the characters and the ********* at the end. What, I’m not spoiling any thing. ;)

Oh my gosh SO AWESOME!!!

Again Lucky and his crew are in over their heads!
Such a simple mission that quickly becomes complex. A well written tale that takes you for a ride and doesn't let you off until there are no more pages to turn.
