Peyton and Brice are on top of the world. And why not? They’re in love, they’re married, and this time, they’re not keeping any secrets from each other.
But then out of the blue, Stefan sends an email with an offer she can’t refuse, and Peyton is faced with a choice. Should she tell him about their child, her Secret who didn’t make it? Isn’t that the morally correct choice? But if she does, what will that mean for their business relationship… and her marriage?
Brice is going to need all his powers of communication and understanding if he’s going to protect his headstrong but vulnerable wife; especially a wife who doesn’t think she needs any help. But her troubles with her past are now threatening their future.
What I love most about this book (and I love a lot about this book) is the fact that it focuses so deftly on the relationship between the two protagonists, and never lets their issues become cliches. These are two real, flawed, funny, likeable people, and their ups and downs are instantly recognizable to anyone who's ever been in a mature relationship.
The writing is fresh, the dialogue is snappy--I devoured the entire book in one day (about half of it at work!) and can't wait for my next Brea Brown book!
Another well-crafted and -developed Brea Brown story follows Peyton and Brice as they navigate the choppy waters of the first years of their marriage.
With lots of natural tension and excitement, I couldn't flip through the pages fast enough as we learn more about P&B. And as they learn more about each other and what it takes to make relationships work. No matter if it's between husband and wife, wife and child, child and God and so on.
I'm half way through and am thinking of giving up. Surely there is something coming worthy of continuing. So far nothing has happened. No mystery, no tension nothing to look forward to. I'm skimming at this point. There are so many good books out there I feel I'm wasting my time.
I didn't read the first book, which is apparently better but it is alluded to so often I know what exactly what happened and it sounds like there was a story there. Clearly this is a book length epilog.
I thought it was a mystery when I picked it up but it's only a mystery to me how it got such a good rating. Shallow, annoying characters, but the clueless preacher is embarrassingly pitiful.
Finished...the second half was better, I bumped the rating up to two stars, but really, I would never recommend.
I tore through the first book in the series in less than two days and the second book was no different! Life continues to steamroll ahead for Peyton and Brice as they attempt to navigate the early days of their marriage. Adjusting to life as a pastor's wife certainly has its challenges, but Peyton bears them with her usual sarcasm. (To my great delight!) Prepare yourself for a myriad of emotions, a few more secrets and a whole lot of fun! Ms. Brown once again delivers an engaging story, filled with delightful characters and real life situations. Just on my way to buy the next book in the series!
Not the most imaginative series but I'm a sucker for sequels to even mediocre stories. Mainly because I liked the characters and wanted to know what happened to them. Not as much language as in the first book and I enjoyed the evolution of the main character from single "wild" child to devoted (though selfish) wife.
this felt like a culmination of journal entries of a woman just going thru life. if you like to be caught up in someone else's drama then you will like this book. if you want a story to go somewhere or take you on a journey with them you might be disappointed.
not as good as the first in the series and I doubt I will read book three. bummer.
I love Brea Brown's books because they are filled with humor and heart... and I am definitely hooked on THE SECRET KEEPER series! I enjoyed Book 2 as much as Book 1 and I'm looking forward to reading more about Peyton and Brice.
Not as good as the first but I still really liked it and would recommend for a quick read. I read this one in 2 days as well...not going to skip a beat and run to the 3rd book.
Book 2 of The Secret Keeper, read the sampler and had buy the book.
Book two does not disappoint. Secrets have a way of surfacing at the most inopportune times. Pastor Brice’s responsibilities, being newly married, following the rules set forth by the elders and the congregation, Peyton’s secrets from her past, having a Pastor for your husband would definitely add stress to any relationship. I love how the story implies naughty things but keeps the storyline clean and lets our imagination fill in some of the blanks. Definitely will buy and read book 3. We know them and their quirks and they feel like family.
I was disappointed as I really liked book 1. Book 2 seems to drag on an on with very little conflict (I kept waiting for something to happen!) I expecedt to see more growth in Payton but it just never came. Sad to say, I don't be working my way through the series as I had planned.
I discovered a secret earlier this month: a fabulous series written by an equally fabulous author by the name of Brea Brown. I quickly devoured THE SECRET KEEPER (Book #1 in the series), only to be disappointed when I reached the end… mainly, because I reached the end. I’m a greedy reader when it comes to characters and authors I love, and I instantly wanted more! more! more! of Peyton and Pastor Brice. So, on to THE SECRET KEEPER CONFINED (Book #2 in the series). True to the premise, as well as the promise contained at the end of Book 1, the story continues as we journey along through heroine Peyton’s point of view, her marriage to Pastor Brice and their first year of marriage. There are plenty of plot twists, plus plenty of secrets I’m not about to divulge in this review (no spoiler alert!). Suffice to say, the characters I’d grown to love in Brown’s delicious first novel definitely delivered when it came to laughter, love, and life lessons… and then, just when I thought things were settled, the story delivered a little bit more.
Brown is a talented author who manages to carry off a smart sassy voice with savvy and style, definitely not an easy task. The best authors are those who make it appear easy. Brown is one of those authors. But be forewarned: though the storyline involves a pastor and religious settings, this is not your mother’s inspirational fiction. It’s laugh-out-loud funny in parts, tragic in parts, and frustrating in parts. But Brown, as we’ve come to expect, keeps the reader thoroughly engaged and entertained, and does a splendid job portraying multi-dimensional characters who find themselves in all-too-real situations that must be addressed. THE SECRET KEEPER CONFINED delivers on all counts, with humor and honor, plus romance and reverence for life and love, all wrapped up in the secrets we keep close to our hearts. I highly recommend this book, and I’m definitely looking forward to Book Three in Brown’s series: THE SECRET KEEPER UP ALL NIGHT.
I'm not ready to leave my fictional friend Peyton behind. These books are fun and touching, as Peyton keeps trying to be her best self. I'm still hooked and interested to see what will happen next! I really like the author's writing style. It is fresh and, while I hope Peyton eventually learns to keep f-bombs out of her vocabulary, I realize this is the common vernacular for the late 20's (and younger, unfortunately) and 30's these days. Anyway, I like how her husband doesn't let it faze him and doesn't judge, too. Book #3, I'm starting it right now!
I liked the changes Peyton made in her life to turn her more toward God and being a good person. The language though really bothers me. Why is it necessary to have it in there, especially the f word! Show some creativity and use different ways to express strong emotion without all of the horrible language!
