At 17 I'm not trying to be a hero. I’m just trying to get home to my family but I either dismantle like an intergalactic traffic ring or lose them.
----------------------------------------------------- Immunity should have been a good thing. But to escape the captors holding her and her family hostage for immunity testing, she didn’t just jump out of the facility, but off the planet. Now she’s light years from Earth and escaping aliens but getting back home means ending an intergalactic trafficking ring. Can she do it before everyone she loves is gone?
They're immune from the virus that's left Earth a wasteland. Unfortunately, that means their bodies are just want the government wants to find a cure. But Karana and her brother Morren, aren't having it.
Torn by the decision to leave loved ones behind on an Earth ravaged by disease, they accept the help of the alien they blame for the destruction of everything they knew.
In an effort to save their family, they stumble on an intergalactic slave trade and find themselves at the center of a battle to bring freedom from the ruling tyrants.
Using their telepathic and teleportation abilities they escape from one planet to another. With each jump Karana and Morren are led deeper into the reality that if they want freedom and to ever return home to their family, they have to fight for it.
Bernette creates multiple worlds with complex characters and social constructs.
Entertaining, colorful, and spiritual all woven into an intergalactic sci-fi thriller.
Bernette Sherman is a multi-genre writer of speculative fiction including sweet romantic comedies, science fiction and fantasy as well as inspiration, poetry, music, and scripts. Her latest work is But First Crawl, a sweet romantic comedy. Her last novel is Light of the Dark Moon, an epic fantasy.
Prior to that she published The Story of Ervin James, a historical fiction story inspired by her great-great-great grandfather.
She lives in the metro Atlanta area with her husband and two children.
Bernette Sherman’s writing style is intriguing, one of a kind. She started chapter one with this: “Take your filthy hands off him.” This is a fantastic hook, and it caught my attention immediately. Chapter one sets the tone for the story as the main character, Karana and her brother Morren, are on a journey to save their father and sister, Tezzi from being immunity test subjects. However, they get captured and the only way out is to seek help from the enemy, Eli, an Elitist; the same aliens they blame for the death of their mother and the destruction of Earth.
With help from Eli, Karana and Morren are able to escape Earth, intending to return to save their family. They landed on a planet called Baselonica Xuna but unfortunately are unable to leave without the help of two immunes like themselves, Reyn and Eton. Sadly, Reyn and Eton refuse to return to earth because of alien invasion. Things go south and Karana is kidnapped and taken to Chapis Kun Zo, the ruler of Baselonica Xuna. In Baselonica Xuna all women are required to have children and The Chapis want Karana. Luckily, she was able to escape and reunite with Morren.
After defeating the Chapis Zo’s men, they reunite with Eton and Reyn and finally convince them to return to Earth. However, the journey to earth is not immediate, they land in Sentursyd first.
I really don’t want to get into the story beyond this point because I want this fascinating piece of art to unfold like magic right before your eyes, as it did mine. Just read the book and enjoy the story for yourself.
I will add that this book was fun to read. I loved the suspense and mystery throughout the story. The descriptions were perfect, and it was very easy to visualize the scenes. I loved the originality and uniqueness of this story. There was nothing predictable in this book.
Karana, we need to survive. Otherwise, no one else will.”
Star Jumpers is a delight from first page to last. The story was entertaining, particularly as it got closer to the climax and resolution. I found myself staying up late to see how everything would turn out!
The plot moves at the speed of light, something is always happening, one of the things that I liked the most is the way in which Morren and Karana communicated through their telepathic powers and the way in which they perform the jumps, there’re so many new places that they had never seen where they’ll discover new things, it makes it very interesting, full of surprises and secrets. We have aliens, interesting abilities, it is an action-packed book with strong friendship, family and freedom themes. I love how incredibly well thought out and executed it is.
Karana was a wonderful MC to follow. She was such an inspiring person. She makes mistakes, but she learns and she fights to do the right thing.
The characters are on an adventure, where they have to make unexpected alliances and do everything possible to return to with their family.
I'll definitely be recommending this one to sci-fi and adventure lovers!
The book starts off by the main character and her brother. In jail they are looking for their father and little sister named Tezzi. In the book they feel that Tezzi may be immune. Karana wants to be able to save humanity. She also wants to save her father and sister. At the moment she feels like saving humanity. Isn’t worth the expense of freedom and lives.
Star Jumpers: An Accidental Quest for Freedom is a definite page-turner. To be honest, I'm not sure what I was expecting but this read turn out to be even better than anything I could've expected. I haven't read a fiction book in years and this book has me hoping for a sequel. The content in this book resonated with me so heavily and can easily be aligned with events that have occurred and are occurring globally. The author did an amazing job at putting a creative, yet realistic spin on local, national, and global issues that draws the reader into a galactic journey for justice.
I can see this book turned into a movie - it's so descriptive it feels like you're right there with the characters who are also easy to connect with. I felt like I was traveling with them as they endeavored to complete their mission and make it back "home".
The story is also laced with spiritual nuances that many readers may find intriguing and that makes the story even more immersive.
I want to like it... And I did for the most part. But about 2/3 of the way in it I feel like it changes directions and by the end I still found myself trying to catch up to it.
I found this book to be slow at times. I would have likes for the pace to have been faster. The book got better as I continued reading it. I wanted the book to not be as disjointed as it seemed to be at times. By the end, I couldn't give it anything else but 3 stars.
