1. I swear that if this dude will say “baby girl” one more time I will strangle him.

description

2. Two books before we find out that there is some big danger. That it is coming to the Earth from the Dragon world through the Rift and now it is not even mentioned? Again?! Not just in the book before, but in this book is nothing too about it?! Really?

description

3. This book wasn’t like the rest of the series where we always had dragon male & human female, so I was curious about this book, ‘cause we finally got dragon female & human male. Unfortunately, I have to admit after this I like more the other way around (dragon male and not human male). I guess I don’t know how to explain this, but the dragon female was kinda “meh”? The whole book was something like too much dominant ‘macho’ stuff.
4. I felt zero chemistry.
5. I loved this series so I am really sad to say that it went downhill since the 5th book (maybe even the 4th book).

Dragons like fashion too!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😪😵‍😑🥺

The heroine: Teva - she is a dragon who came to Earth through a rift in the sky which came from some other world. When they came through the rift, the smells and sounds of all the humans and animals in the world drove them crazy, a few of the male dragons were able to get their minds right when they found their mates. Teva wants Gabe but the way a female dragon shows she wants a mate is to challenge the male to a fight.

The Hero: Gabe - appeared in some of the previous books, he has had a red dragon (female dragon) following him for a while. He often goes out with his trusty dog scooter and has been friendly with some of the main characters from prior books. He was one of the victims of the plague that went through a fort in a prior book and had been cured with a blood transfusion from a male dragon.

The Story: The human plague victims who got transfusions from a dragon have changed a bit, Gabe more so than some of the others. He can now hear thoughts of some of the dragons, so much so that he knows who Teva is and that she is somehow attracted to him and searches out her scent. He also knows how scattered and crazy her thoughts are.

This was the one book in the series that has the female being a dragon and the male human (or somewhat human). I didn’t really want to read this one, because I like the male to be the paranormal one for some reason. I like it when the male is the alien, the dragon, the vampire and the female is the puny human. I don’t know why. Though I really enjoyed this series, so I thought I would give it a try.

I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. This is my favorite series from Ruby Dixon and I hope she keeps adding to it. I really liked Gabe, he was a strong guy and a genuinely nice guy. He was a paramedic in the before (before the rift).

“How am I supposed to dick a woman until her brain falls in line?”

The book was told in dual points of view in dual narration, where the male narrator does all the voices in the chapters that are told in the male point of view and the female narrator does all the voices in the female point of view. The narrators were Noelle Bridges and Jeremy York and both did a great job. I like Jeremy’s clear voice and he speaks with a nice cadence. Noelle has a nice voice as well.

The stories in this series are getting better and better. In this one Gabe goes back to the old place he and his friends used to live to get all the stray cats for Charlie thinks of as pets. He finds himself thinking of Teva more and more. He somehow knows she won’t kill him even though she isn’t in her right mind.

Though I liked the story, I didn’t really like Teva. Granted she has been in the form of an animal for quite a while so it makes sense she would be more apt to yield to her baser instincts but she is too forward for my tastes and I like intelligence over sultriness in a heroine. I wanted her to understand things and figure things out on her own, like the fact that since Gabe is human they may have different customs.

⭐ 1.5 "why are we here… just to suffer?" stars ⭐

Truthfully, I had no clue how to structure this review, since I had too many things to rant about originally and ran the risk of writing a mumbling dissertation rather than a review, so I decided to let some choice quotes speak for themselves.

Right at the very first chapter:

"The scent is back. The intoxicating one.
It is male. Unmated. Exciting.
I inhale deeply, breathing in the scent of it with delight. It smells so good, so strong and thick on the air that I can almost bathe in it. I preen at the male’s scent, because it’s like nothing I’ve experienced before."

Indeed, you know it's going to be a good one when the repetition begins right at the very start. Scent, in case you were wondering, was utilized 92 times. Which I wouldn't have had a problem with… if most of those instances didn't seem to happen in the span of the same few paragraphs.

And no, that was not the only example of repetition (or even the worst offender), in case you were curious. It gets worse.

"...his scent seems more mixed than before, our scents mingled so much that it is impossible to tell where one ends and the other begins. We are truly mated. I can smell my scent all over you."

description

The thesaurus I have downloaded on my phone was weeping by that point.

Yet, it also went beyond simply the narration. Because then it started to happen with the dialogue in the sex scenes too, and by that point, even while I decided to physically keep reading because fuck self-preservation, I had mentally checked out.

Another gem I have to show for it:

(Beware unimaginative dirty talk)

"I’m going to give you my seed, Teva. I’m going to fill that pretty cunt with so much seed, all the seed your pretty little body has been craving."

description

Because, LISTEN, I honestly *love* dirty talk in my smut. It's something that can really sell a scene for me usually, but this cliche, uninspired, can't-bother-with-synonyms kind? Yeah, sometimes silence is a better option.

Or better yet, next time, please just say cum! Come! Spunk! Jizz! Sperm! Even spooge, I'm begging you.

Plus, a lot of what makes steam "hot" for me in books (especially in romances rather than just plain erotica) is the chemistry between characters themselves. The way they click not only sexually, but as people. The banter, the animosity or affection. The FEELINGS that stir below the layer of plain lust. Because for me to buy into the "need", I have to believe they have something to be needing from the other person for starters.

(And no, "seed" is not a passable answer.)

Here, instead, the two MCs were bumping uglies right after Teva (the female dragon) adopted her human form and Gabe (her human mate) decided to tame her. And they just kept at it without ever feeling as if they truly had developed a believable connection. Like okay, so you're saying these two are mates? I get the insta-lust then. I get the codependency and how it could lead to the kind of all consuming love pnr and shifter romances are built on.

What I don't get, however, is how these two could go from being practically strangers, to fucking ONCE and then to

"But…what about babies? She pulls her hand from mine. Do you not want young?
Right now all I want is for you and I to understand one another. I will think about us today, and babies tomorrow.
Tomorrow
, she agrees, as if satisfied with that."

THIS.

In the literal Span. Of. A. Single. Day.. Or less than that actually, since I doubt we had even crossed the required 24-hour threshold by that point.

We're talking about parenthood, people! Several hybrid children for the main pair! And Gabe, the male lead, didn't even know her full name by that point. BECAUSE, AGAIN, LESS THAN A SINGLE DAY.

Obsession I could've bought into happily. Crazy, need-you-now type of lust and attachment too. Even insta-love is something I usually overlook and a lot of times enjoy. But this? I don't think this can even be considered insta-love. More like flash, travelling faster than the speed of sound, type of love. With family planning to bout.

Indeed, if nothing else, at least this romance was

For some reason I stopped reading this series after the 3rd one. But when I came to know in this book heroine is the dragon I was intrigued. And I’m soooo glad I read this.
I absolutely adored the heroine. She was both fire and vulnerability. She was bold, fierce and protective. Just what I imagined a drakoni women will be. Author wrote her so well. She also loved babies.

Same goes for the hero. He had all the human qualities. He was some part uncertain, modern, free spirited, kind and kinda of sweet plus dominant. Like I said the characterization was done so well.
Their main problem was very much realistic and I enjoyed how the hero solved it. I liked all the pets introduced and how taken the heroine was with babies.
This is a very entertaining and hard to put down kinda book.

I actually really loved the conflict of this one (female dragon + human male, first time we've seen how that goes down), and I really enjoyed both of the main characters, especially Teva (aka Girl Destroyer). It just felt a little flabby, and I wish it had been a novella to tighten in up a bit more.

En resumen, Fire In Her Eyes me entretuvo mucho.

I was, to my utter surprise, disappointed with Fire In Her Eyes.
First off, its characters didn't call to me like in previous stories. Gabe was most of the time just a dick in a good-guy disguise. And Teva was horribly bland for a dragon.
Second off, the previous book ended up with on such great revelation, I expected this story to move miles and miles in the main plot but instead of a full-filling soup, I got a teaspoon of lukewarm salted water.

I have been wanting a female dragon story in this series and Ruby did not fail me!! Teva was discussed in the last book because she was attracted to Gabe who was a big part of the last book but not a main character. I loved that we knew Teva and Gabe have a connection but it was in no way an easy connection. I can only hope more dragons speak to Ruby Dixon for more stories in this series, I wouldn't even be against a time jump for a few books about the possible children from our known couples. I really love this series.

This specific video review will be included in the August 2019 wrap-up.

This was really good. A lot of inner monologue with Teva, but still very good. I hope more of the girl dragons find their mate. Happy reading!

This book was a sweet little read. Nice to switch to a female dragon. Gabe was a fantastic H and Teva managed to be a fierce dragon but lovely human.

I'm just going to be honest here. I'm not entirely sure I enjoyed this. Parts were entertaining, even funny. Other parts were unnerving and took me out of any comfort zone I was in. I alternately liked Teva and felt sorry for her. Gabe was extremely unlikable to me. So, maybe 3 stars, but that's probably being generous.

We finally get the story behind Gabe and the red dragon that keeps following him. He and his fellows at Fort Shreveport are constantly being bothered by this dragon and Gabe is starting to feel responsible. So he considers leaving for a while...seeing if he can't somehow figure out a way to force a challenge with the dragon, get her to change shape and mate her to help her bring her mind back. He's not thrilled with the idea of forcing her and dominating her, but if it helps... He manages to do just that and discovers that Teva is irresistible. However, Gabe doesn't anticipate all the things that go with being mated to a dragon. Now he has an incredibly beautiful woman at his side, but she can turn into a dragon with the snap of a finger and she has a volatile temper (and she's still battling her madness). Not to mention he also now has another mind with constant access to his (and vice versa). In addition, he realizes he might have to make sacrifices that he didn't expect, like leaving his friends behind. But Gabe's first responsibility is helping Teva keep herself sane, which is becoming harder to do.

This one just didn't float my boat...bake my cake...tickle my pickle...you get the idea. First disappointment is that the author set aside all progress in the plot arc (and the big places it's going) took a side step over and decided to tell a story running simultaneously to that main plot. It's like this was filler and didn't drive the story any further (didn't learn anything new except about Kael). On top of that, I didn't like either of the characters. Teva annoyed me pretty much non-stop with her obsession with sex in her nagging, teasing way. It's very different with man vs. female dragons...the men just seem gruff and alpha, the women are annoying. Then there's the fact that in order to mate with her, Gabe has to be all kinds of dominant, which isn't really in his character. He doesn't want to - he states it clearly in the beginning. Then he's all about it because it's what makes Teva happy (in fact she needs it to remain sane) and he'll do anything to keep her happy. But I keep going back to the fact that it's not really what he wants...and they'll never be able to have satisfying, slow, romantic sex either. And domination really does NOTHING for me. It's all good if that's your thing, but I don't really get much out of it. And other than their bouts of sex (which is full of dominating unless they're failing at it), there isn't really much chemistry between them. I didn't feel the connection. Teva has insta-love, where she loves him because he's her mate and then she mentally justifies why she should be okay with having mated a human. And Gabe just felt lust and obligation. I initially liked that he wanted a strong, confident and independent woman and what he got was a physically strong, needy woman who is every bit as clingy as he was trying to avoid. And this is the first time we're inside a human male's mind with this author and I wasn't loving it...Gabe sounded crude and it bugged me to no end that he kept calling Teva, "baby girl." Sorry, but that sounds like a pedophile. Teva makes a good point - why do we call our sexual interests after an infant?

This is still a well-written story and if domination is more your thing, you may enjoy this more than I did. But for this one, I struggled to connect to the characters and the sex just wasn't hooking me either...so this was not so much a fun ride. It was good catching up with Liam and Kael though.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

"If you don’t like it, I won’t call you that. What would you prefer?"
I consider for a minute. Strongest warrior. She with the fiercest claws. Render of wings, severer of necks.'

It was a fascinating concept in this book . . . but wasn't done much justice. Gabe was cool until he started whipping out phrases like "baby girl" and acting totally different than he had when he was initially introduced. Also, him suddenly having fangs?? That's sus.

OMFG I'm crying. I have been waiting what feels like forever for this book and I am gutted... That it's over. Ruby once again hit it out of the park and the extra time spent on this book was so beyond worth the wait. Since the first book in the Fireblood series, I have wanted a Red Dragon story. The Reds are the female of the species and the most feral amongst them. Seemingly the ones that will never be able to be tamed and or mated, particularly to a human male. But Gabe, sweet Gabe who we've met over the past few books is more than up to the challenge. Thanks to circumstances in the last book Gabe is able to connect with Teva. For months Gabe noticed the 'Red' following him, basically threatening those in the camp he was living in so he sets out to somehow tame her.

The interesting thing with the Dragons is as we previously find out, the females, well they like to be dominated by their males. The women expect their men to be forceful to show their strength and basically earn the right to be their mate. A weak male is not fit for a strong Drakoni female. But boy was Gabe, a mere human, up to the challenge. I really enjoyed Gabe as a character and having his insight and that of Teva's was so fun. Both are new to relationships and the first couple of their kind so watching them learn how to grow together and form a relationship was remarkable. Teva was everything I wanted and more in the first female 'Red' to be mated. I truly hope we get at least one more female dragon story but honestly anything that continues this series and this world is alright with me!!!

I could sit here and gush about this book because I truly did love it so much. All of Ruby's books have yet to disappoint me from the Barbarians to the dragons. I never begrudge Ruby the time it takes to write because I know it'll be best when done on her timeline if that makes sense. Luckily I read all of her books and as they span a bunch of series and are released rather frequently I am guaranteed a great read at least once a month :) No matter what comes next, I am ready and waiting <3

I'm a relatively recent, but now devoted, Ruby Dixon Fan having read a lot of her backlist and loving them all. Sure, some don't resonate as much with me as others, but that's just how reading goes, sometimes you click, sometimes you don't, but I've never read anything of hers that I haven't at least really enjoyed.

I was super excited to see how the drakoni and human mateship would work with a female drakoni. Their need to be conquered in battle to mate made it seem like it would be almost impossible. How would a human male take on, never mind conquer, a female in battle form??? So to see how Ruby would do this was a very strong pull on this book.

Then, I did the stupid thing and read a few reviews just to get a feel for it. Many reviews I read said that they enjoyed the book but wouldn't read it again, or DNF. Why? Apparently, Gabe (human male) having to conquer Teva (drakoni female) was just too heavy and sensitive for the readers. So, since I'm not really into the whole BDSM scene, I was a bit wary going in.

All I can say, is that I'm a stupid idiot for not just reading and making up my own opinion! I will preface this with everyone is different and has different sensitivities, I completely understand this. But, as someone with no real triggers, I have to say that I have read heavier stuff in the old 80/90s Mills&Boon!!

Without spoiling anything, how Gabe 'conquers' Teva is really quite clever. And for the whole dominance thing, it really wasn't a lot more than many modern mainstream contemporary and paranormal romances. Maybe a touch more, but there were certainly no whips and chains, and certainly no abuse!

I really enjoyed following this romance from a female drakoni point of view. It was a lot different, from the previous stories, and so it should, women think a lot differently to men, regardless of species!

So, my advice is to not read the reviews, and unless you have a sensitivity to dominant male (but no BDSM or violence of any kind) relationships, then I'd suggest you give it a go.

I wouldn't recommend reading any of the Fireblood Dragons as a standalone, they are too interconnected and the story is developed more in each book. Honestly, you'd probably be lost and confused if you just picked up a book out of order, and that would ruin the whole reading experience, and these books are too good to ruin!

I was eagerly anticipating this book, especially after the last one hinted at the storyline. The book centers around Gabe, a human male, and his companion, a red female dragon who follows him everywhere he goes. However, I must admit that I did not enjoy this book as much as I had hoped. It was only average. I was hoping to learn more about the rift, but it was hardly mentioned in the book. The story failed to add anything new to the main plot line, making it an unnecessary read. Moreover, Gabe's constant use of the term "baby girl" when referring to Teva was grating and made me cringe every time he said it.

Me enamoraron completamente 😍😍😍.

I’m in like

I didn’t love this story, BUT I did like it very much. This dragons/drakoni series is starting to give me the Ice Planet Barbarian feeling of its time to end it.
When I finally got around to reading this, I was kinda shocked to realize we are at book 7 now. Book. Seven.
There’s clearly a lot of ways this series can go and it has the potential for so many stories to be told.
Will we finally learn about our Salorian villain and his mate that was promised a few books back? If Claudia’s baby was born, doesn’t that mean Sasha had hers? What about a book focusing on the very first human-drakoni pairing that was alluded to in Claudia’s story?
All of those questions/ideas makes me take a step back and really think about this series... and it’s basically the same. Drakoni wants a mate, they mate, go foraging or scavenging, deal with some sort of language barrier, they encounter the Salorian villain in some fashion or other or are met with a major problem that causes the human and drakoni to realize that they’re a team and inseparable... then happily ever after. Yep. Same formula. Every. Time.
I expected more, what happened to this bigger bad that was spoken about during Gwen’s story? How’s the rehab going of Zorn’s wings? The list goes on. As much as I liked this story... it didn’t feel unique unique.

2.5 "she's with me" stars!

My least favourite of the series so far. It's too bad because I was so ready for Teva to be this kick-ass female warrior and she ended up being a girl attracted by pretty things and fashion.

And Gabe, sigh, I was hoping there would be more to him. I withheld a scream every time he called Teva "baby girl" (my least favourite of all the pet names a man can call a woman). I felt that he thought more like the dragons in the previous books than a man that has survived 7 years of an apocalypse.

I loved Teva and Gabe so much! Seeing the first female drakoni in the series finally get her own book was the best too. Teva struggles a lot with coming to terms with living in this human and drakoni world, her human male mate Gabe, and an inner voice trying to get her to lose herself to chaos again. I loved seeing how much Teva enjoys being around the children in the community and how she wants to grow and learn too. This was just super sweet, a little shorter than the previous books in the series, and a fun time.

4.5/5

I loved this one, definitely something that I’ve wanted to see since the start; female drakoni, AND FAMILY REUNION. ARKAEL, ANYONE?! I loved it!!

I also loved the baby. Like gimme more of them.

As per my review/talk on the last book, I’m hoping the kids are the next key to making drakoni not crazy because I can’t see that many humans mating with other drakoni, especially the females. I would have loved more intrigue/conversation about how Gabe was able to mate with a drakoni but other humans won’t be unless they have a blood transfusion from a drakoni either.

I still have so many questions about this series; like why has there been two books so far with no talk about this worse threat coming through the rift? Is it no longer a problem? Where’s Azar? Did he let his drakoni go so they could find people to make them not crazy? What’s he doing??

Anyway back to the book, it was great. I loved how clever Gabe was, and how innocent Teva is but also independent and fierce. It was interesting to see the other side of drakoni culture, because there is such a stark difference between male and female which was interesting to read about.

I also liked how Teva also remembered more than some, and family reunions!! I can’t believe that I’m almost up to date with these books either, because this big threat hasn’t popped back up yet either.

well... it's been a while since i've done a review on here and honestly, i blame being home so much that reading isn't really an escape from this house at the moment.

i finally picked this book up cause i was sick of not at least reading an actual book and not damn fan fiction

i liked this one i think out of all of them. i mean i'm not really here for the plot but the fact is, it's finally about the red (female) dragons and I'm totally here for it!

gabe is such a - a king! he is the sweetest most soft manly-man out of all of these and i just -

i hope you make more of these red dragon ones ruby cause i'm now trash for them!

3.5 Stars - This book took a different turn with the main character being a guy, and the dragon being a woman. It was interesting to see the different relationship struggles that they went through before arriving at their happy ending.

It was a surprise that Ruby did a book with a female dragon. I wasn't sure what I would think about the book but ended up really liking it. I do recommend you reading the book before this one because things happen in that one that tie to this story.

Teva is a female dragon and she becomes obsessed with Gabe. She seems to follow him everywhere. Circumstances change and she and Gabe are able to connect. I don't want to give too much away from the other story. One point to know is that she is a female dragon so they want to be dominated. There isn't really BDSM in this one, just Gabe is more forceful and commanding in this one with her and it is handled well. I don't think anyone would be upset about it.

Gabe is a great guy and you just fall in love with him.

And Azar. Well, Ruby, you are going to have to work hard to redeem him for me. Let's hope Melanie keeps him in line. He was a bit of a trouble-maker in this one. And I was being nice with that word.
