An unputdownable EMP Boxset with a brilliant twist!
Lights out The nation's power grid has failed. Hundreds of millions are left without basic utilities, and the enemy responsible for the EMP's detonation now wreaks havoc throughout the countryside.
After an EMP crisis shakes the foundation of North America, Greenhill, an insignificant town becomes the safe haven for a family.
Aftermath In a flash, an EMP blast disables North America's entire east coast. Separated from her husband and daughter, thirty-nine-year-old psychologist Naomi Baxter finds herself trapped on the streets of Philadelphia. The brutal February cold gnaws at her skin as she strives to reunite with her family. Having a keen understanding of the human condition, Naomi knows that she must find her daughter before anarchy consumes the city.
Two very good post apocalyptic novels by J.S. Donovan. The 2nd book (Aftermath) in this boxset was particularly jolting for me on a personal level. This one has the protagonists' (Naomi, Calvin and daughter Trinity Baxter) living, working and going to school in Philadelphia (I grew up in the suburbs of Philly) when an Electronic Magnetic Pulse (EMP) hits. Calvin works at the University of Pennsylvania (where I attended Graduate School), Naomi is a Therapist (myself - a social worker who worked in Philadelphia as well). So. . . listening to the street names, hospitals, and all parts of Philadelphia they traveled were very familiar and personal to me. The devastation on the subway (when the EMP first happened) was especially horrific since I took that same line as I traveled for leisure and work. The descriptions of Philly were eerily accurate and my heart sank hearing the devastation occurring in my favorite city. Naomi and Calvin were not built to fight the battle they were made to endure just to survive for another day. They are both white collar workers (Calvin specialized in electronics) who were both kind hearted and civil minded. Hearing their transformations (both physically and mentally) throughout this novel was realistic, inspiring and traumatic all rolled together. The characters all suffered more than their share of loss, hardship, and betrayals along the way. A great perspective of the best and worst that mankind is capable of - Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Then again, sometimes friends can become your worst enemies. . .
It was almost like two different writers, or maybe editors, wrote these two stories. I liked the first part so much better. The second part had so much misspelling on almost every page! However, the action scenes kept me immersed in both stories.
My rating actually relates to the first story. The second was a 2 star because of all the glaring errors.
OMG, where are you going to send my paycheck for proofreading and correction? I was at times wondering what part of Nepal you were from because of the grammar and how old you were due to the structure and use of terms related to equipment and events.
It was painful to read through some portions of the story where a clinical psychologist was missing basic human nature and inhuman nature.
That being said, the general plot was interesting, and at times the only reason that I kept reading. I just hope and pray that the corrections I input will be taken. The story can be salvaged.
The I found that "Anchorage" the third book in the set was missing......
This set is the same as another, but the stories are not in the same order.
I like EMP books and J. S. did not disappoint. Great characters and great stories. Each book is the story from a different main character and seems to be well thought out. I will be reading more of them.
My one issue is that there are some misspelled words throughout the books. I would have given the series 5 stars but there were a lot of spelling and sentence issues with the books. Why don’t authors and editors catch these?
This was the worse edited book I have ever read, wrong words completely, misspelled words, wrong names given of people. It was a good story but the errors really made it hard to read. For awhile ever chapter would rehash what had already happened. It must not have been proofread at all. It is enough to make Mr not want to read any more books by the author.
... however, it was littered with missing and misspelled words. If you can handle that then you will enjoy the story. The first story is a bit of a stretch but still enjoyable especially since it is better written dramatically than the second one. Lot's of action and death. Just don't expect any answers as to why or who caused the situations to begin with. A few questions but zero answers.
Liked it and hated it. Ugh. The beginning was great...dramatic, fast paced, emotional. The middle was slow as freakin hell and had little to do with the original.plot. the end saved it but still had nothing much to so with the original plot. And no questions were answered and I hated the main characters.
Many many mistakes throughout this novel. It seems as though no one edited this book. The basic story was good if you could get past all the errors. I would not recommend this book.
Badly written. This book horrible. This writer knows better than not to edit this story. He has written much better books.
I enjoyed reading both books, but the errors in spelling, grammar, and even the character’s names was very irritating! At times I had to read the paragraph several times to make sense of it! You need a new proof reader!
When much of the world is slowed to a near stop by an EMP weapon, what happens next to those who survive?
Hoarding of supplies, raiding and pilfering, power struggles- and some who do what they must to survive, and still try to help others- perhaps for a bit of personal peace.
Naomi must work long and hard to try to survive and secure the lives and freedom of as much of her family as possible.
The fight is long and harrowing.

The Collapse: EMP Survival in a Powerless World Boxset by J.S Donovan is a great box set to read. I really enjoyed reading this box set cause I love reading about thrillers and suspense stories and this great box set has it all. I recommend this great box set to all who like reading about thrillers and suspense.

The story was decent, I admit that. The incorrect usage of certain words would have been less frustrating if they were not used (incorrectly) over and over and over again. “Smirked”, “juxtaposed”, “jihadist”, and several others were repetitively used, in phrases in which they made little to no sense. This book could be very good, if the author had a thesaurus and decent editor.
Really enjoyed this boxset. Very well written and kept me interested throughout. J.S Donovan is a great author and I highly recommend reading. One of my favorite authors.

Reading these two books kept me reading long after I should have been asleep. The one thing that bothered me was the amount of typing errors. They jumped out at me quite regularly
The Collapse:EMP Survival in a Powerless World Boxset
This was a pretty good read not any mistakes I could see, but I am not a English teacher some things I thought were a little out there, but on the whole a alright read
The author has once again given us a plot of what of, if it did happen. Showing the courage of one woman to get to her daughter. When everything else is gone.
Generally a good read. I did not understand why there were two separate stories. Towards the end I got mixed up about which story some of the events occurred in.
Great concept for a storyline but due to all the misspelling or missed wording throughout the entire book I only rated it 2 stars. In this day with spell check “ come on man!”
Terrific story, worst spelling and grammar of all the indie books I’ve read! Read only if you can bear stumbling through paragraphs so distorted they make no sense.
