"From all the directions-an inspiration turned into poetics" is a collection of 20 different flavoured poem each. It contains one poem for every section, a kid, a teenager, youth, middle aged or elderly. A collection of poem for someone who is looking for adventure, or just for an inspiration, for someone who is heart broken or healed, someone who has been abandoned or who should reconcile, for a woman who is strong or if she's a mom, for those who miss old days and for those who are going through hard ways. I'm sure this read is going to make you fall for poetry here after. Poems are eloping today and this is just an attempt by the authoress to get the interest of a layman back into them by a simple yet interactive style of writing.

Shoutout to Shitface for being a part of this BR where we both had the opportunity to pull our hair out and whine together!! Yep, it’s been that kinda book again, I’m afraid!!
Okay, so I’m gonna be taking the longer way here to get to the point bcz I need to not come across as brash and insensitive. And although I know this review won’t be read by many people bcz this isn’t a famous book, I still wanna talk about it in as much detail as I can.
You know, while growing up, in fact up until a few years ago, I thought I had an unappreciative family. I genuinely believed that they were too critical of me and everything I did. But, years later today, I can point out numerous things that I am good at solely bcz my family had the guts to tell me what I was lacking at. They didn’t lie to me. My friends didn’t lie to me. And as a result, I have turned out to be the person I am. The underlying point here is, that family and friends play a pivotal role in shaping up a person. They share a very important critical perspective. They can make you better at something by telling you the truth about how you have the potential to be better or they can lie to you, urge you to do anything you wanna do, irrespective of if you do it right or not.
The reason I am saying all of this is bcz the author in her acknowledgments thanked her family and friends, and later in comments on one of my updates as well, who urged her to publish these poems while she wrote her other book. And I wanna remark on this statement of her. I wanna tell the author with a sad heart that they lied to you. They either didn’t know better, which I find almost impossible to believe, or they simply didn’t wanna be the ones who told you the hard fact that this book sucks so bad that it doesn’t deserve to be published. And I am NOT sorry, Shrishty, for being the ‘heartless’ reviewer who tells you that this book shouldn’t have been.
I know a lot of people think I am cruel reviewer who somehow revels in his own brand of rude honesty but I wish I could convince y’all that that’s not the case. The problem is mostly in the books I am reviewing. If the book I am reading is shitty to the point where the author doesn’t know anything about tenses, continuity of sentences and where and how to use what punctuation, I am hardly to blame! And EXCUSE ME for calling out an author who doesn’t know the difference between “Though” and “THOU”! Tell me again how the hell am I cruel?
The author asked me for constructive honesty rather than rude honesty. I would give her what she wants but honesty has a way of coming across as rude when the real picture is too shocking for someone. And it might come as a shock to the author but this book of her is an insult to the art form of poetry and writing in general. It might sound rude but please check out my status updates for the book and see for yourself.
While I was reading the book, I thought that I would remark upon the quality of poems and how they are extremely amateurish but as I read on, I realized that that would be a far cry considering the quality of GRAMMAR in this book.
I dare lay claim that this book was never edited by anyone but who wrote it and the one who wrote it, seemly doesn’t have a strong grasp on the language either. There are just so many grammatical screwups in this book that it won’t be wrong to say that this whole book is ONE BIG CLUSTERF*CK! This book can be held up as a prime example of what I mean when I say that Amish Tripathi and Chetan Bhagat (although I hate Chetan personally but even so) totally deserve to be on top! They are GODS compared to these authors! Even when they put out their debut books, and Amish self published his first book, they were so so so much better than these books ever will be! And I don’t expect anyone to actually understand just how it saddens me to say this of my own nation’s people. But I can't let so many mistakes slide and I don’t see how so many grammatical errors could have skipped someone’s notice considering the size of this book is a measly 65 pages, but apparently they did and apparently it got published and apparently even AFTER being published the author failed to see all that is wrong with this book was confident enough to ask for an honest review while telling me how so many people are applauding her for her work. Oh well, they might be blinded by something. I am not…
Now, if I talk about the quality of the poems themselves, although I’d rather not comment on it but since I was asked for an honest review, I will tell you that I think a 5th or 6th grade kid could write as much or better. These poems have ABSOLUTELY no depth to speak of and it seems like to me that these were the most basic of thoughts that were further dumbed down as they were put to paper. Further, I personally feel, that this book was thought out in the native language and then translated to English as the author started writing it and it shows in the quality of the work and how the sentences have been put together. I’ll say that the thoughts, the essence of the book, makes sense but it’s not worth much when the execution is screwed up as royally as it is here.
The author talked to me about poems reflecting the person who pens them. And she isn’t the first one to say that. A couple of other debut poetry authors have said that to me. And I wanna ask, do you mean to imply that novels don’t do the same? Why do these poetry authors sound like they think poetry is a superior art form compared to story-telling? I will tell you that I believe otherwise but that’s a debate for another time. Anyway…
The author said that I don’t know her battles and struggles and she’s right, I don’t. Bcz I don’t know her personally and neither should that be the basis to judge her writing. If I know her struggles, then does that mean I should blindly support her book? If she knew my mental struggles, would she validate all my bad decisions? That sounds like a very unhealthy deal to me, not to mention a DISHONEST one. All due respect to her as a person, but as an author she is one of the WORST I have ever read and that’s saying something! Last time I read a book as shitty and horrible as this was by an author who’s 17 years of age. That…that should say A LOT!
Overall, this book is a mistake. Anyone who has written like this, for them to think about getting published and asking for an honest review, is a mistake. Yes, you improve with criticism and feedback and experience, but this book doesn’t need improving upon, it needs an UN-DOING! It needs the author to first have a basic grasp over the language so she can actually write what she thinks she is writing. And only then, she can start to think about going any further.
You know, I used to say ‘I’m sorry’ to the authors whose book I bashed but I am not sorry, not anymore. My reviews are out there for the authors to see and understand that I am not someone who will give you a decent or passable rating/review just bcz you dished out a review copy. No, I am, always have been and always will be, honest in my opinions (subject to my understanding of all things) and I will tear down a book if it needs doing so.
This work by the author is a clusterf*ck in all ways and I would not ever even call it a book, all things considered.
Note: I suppose either honesty isn't appreciated here or Goodreads has a glitch but I am PRETTY SURE reviews should appear according to likes for every book and in that case, mine and Anish's should have been at the top but they're not so yea...I would like to now formally state that I did not expect this to happen and I am utterly disappointed that glowing, glossy reviews with 5 stars are automatically put at the top. Oh well... I don't really care but just a heads up to anyone who was considering reading this book
Thank you to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Also, shout out to my homie Kuckoo for Buddy reading this book with me and accompanying me in saying “what in the name of the Holy Spirit” every few pages.
Also also, me and Koko are going to coin a genre called “what-the-fuck” poetry because honestly speaking, there is no genre right now to classify such gems.
Let’s get cracking, shall we?
Title From All The Directions As in…what is coming from all the directions? Is someone GOING in these directions? Is it like a world tour? Is there a plethora of praise coming from all directions? (though I highly doubt the last one) So what then? What does the title mean?
Writing It…ummm….yea… As child-like as it can get. It’s like someone got up randomly one day, put together a few sentences, added a couple of “cool-sounding” synonyms, pressed enter randomly in sentences and viola, you’ve got a “poetry” book. Not only did most of the work make no sense, but it also started to sound a little…well, I’ll give examples to show what I’m saying
Jointure is possible, After traveling that far. ( I BET it is)
We can never taste a part of HIS relish. (I…)
Realise it what‟s awaited, Don‟t stuck in general. (You hear that, folks? Don’t “stuck” it in general. Stuck it where there’s some friction *snorts*)
Theme Like all modern poetry books, this one also follows along the lines of love, cheesy flattery, betrayal, gratefulness to God yada yada. Pretty basic stuff
Some examples
In this particular case, I don’t even need to describe why the book only got one star from me. The below mentioned works speak for themselves
I‟ve heard time flies, That it rides on horse, But this moment is pretending „still‟, This day is passing away with lose. The disfigured face that has just flashed, Afflicted the day in pale Nipping cold that just has strike, Is numbing all the day. The eerie silence is leaving me dumb, What‟s choked needs to be free. This freedom is like paralyses, Let the things be unfree. Make the moment to fly now, To forbid the lives from slavery Question 1: what in heaven’s name is “passing away with lose”? A new form of diarrhea? And forbid lives from slavery? What?
My dear daughter! You‟re precious to me I‟ll never call you my son Coz you‟re not less than anyone.
I understand many countries in Asia promote a very backwards culture where having a son is cherished more than having a daughter. As a daughter, I understand the implications of being viewed as someone who can never support her parents like a son would. BUT speaking about it as an issue should have been done with grace. Why must a work about a child being applauded for her being a daughter be all about how she’s not a son? Why couldn’t it have been about what qualities make her just as loveable as a son? Why did it only have to be about how she’s “not a son”?
Poor farmer! Mutilated every day, The penny-scratchers showed up. Pouting the eye-balls (I had NO idea anyone could POUT their EYEBALLS but ohhkay)
Emotions juxtaposed. (I highly doubt this is a sensible term nor do I want to ponder over what in God’s name it means)
But one thing would never differ among us, We are just-a-copy under our skin.
And I glided-whirled around the house (I wish the author knew you can’t hyphenate two random words and wish them into making sense)
When I grew, dreamt all new, They both stood by my side in benison. Mulishly I demanded new a bike, branded clothes and what not, They filled me with All, Exhausting their salary, leaving no-savings. (Who knew a poem about how parents sacrifice so much for their kids would ONLY be about WHAT the parents gave their child and not what a child ever gave them in return?)
The beaming eyes turned to floods. (sure)
He twisted and turned, Pleaded and jolted, but Thy hands didn‟t trembled, Thy feet didn‟t jammed. He got covered with red, Bleeding profusely, but Thy eyes didn‟t flood, Thy heart didn‟t melt. He yelled and yelled, He moaned in help, but Thy ears didn‟t dumb, Thy throat didn‟t choke. His bones got busted, Out of his wrinkled skin, but Thy lips didn‟t seal. Thy skin didn‟t crack. (I understand using words such as “thy” make it seem like the poetry is o-so-classic and o-so-intelligent but it is not. I’m sorry but using out of the place words only serves to prove the point that not all people can dabble into poetry and come out as poets.
When stuck in a rut, Or ensnared by fate. When glory seems to wane, Or days filled with hate. When time goes wending, Or things are in haste. Don‟t repute it‟s over, Coz it‟s never too late. Don‟t limp or lean, Or keep on wait. Go there by a run, Or leap with a rate. Push yourself a little more-to conquer, As it‟s said- it‟s never too late. (So many errors in these few lines that I legit cried. I wish people would understand using synonyms for every word does NOT make them a word wizard; it just makes them stupid
I am not be able to see You every time I desire. But these thoughts of yours Do not go even when I desires. (Just…)
And even if I‟m awake thinking about you, I enjoy it, love it Because I‟m feeling you. This sounds so wrong that I can’t even…
Your Circumvention is a Reason to applaud. (By all that is Holy and Good, please explain to me what this means)
Man has enthralled himself in his own desire, Rather than his humanity. (what an epiphany!)
Work is worship for no doubt, And happiness lies in this route. But don‟t get obsessed with the things around, Nothing is important than the people you always surround (Work is worship? Wow)
This day is passing away with lose. (this is my favorite line from the entire book)
Breaking my mono days (this is my second favorite line)
Overall Impression I wish I had never accepted this book. I wish I would sign off of poetry and all its types forever. I wish people understood that while everyone can write, only a few have the ability to create meaning in their words. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone for the life of me, nor do I understand why I’m one of the only people to rate it 1 star. Perhaps there’s a “5 star for 5 star” deal going on between authors or perhaps the standard of good books has dropped so low that I have become one of those snobbish readers who are not easily pleased. Either way, all I want is for time to turn back and take me to the moment I decided to accept this book because God knows I regret it. While sometimes an author’s work is not the best reflection of their capabilities, unfortunately, this time it is not so clear, which is why I can’t even urge the author to keep on writing. All I can say is that I hope her next work shows a vast improvement and that I do not have the misfortune of having to review anything similar to this ever again.
From all the directions is the poetry Book by Shristy Sinha and this is the first book I have read from this author. It can be read stand-alone.
The book is the collections of poems. As the Title said From all Directions the Book has all the poems from many different and unique topics. Each Poem can be read Alone its not like you have to read it any specific order.
What I like about this book is that it gives a soothing effect to your heart. It can mend your hearts with ease. There are some poems which touched my heart, it gave me solace. Most importantly I can easily connect with the poems and I think most people from different age groups as well. Great work is done by the author. ARC was provided for an honest opinion.
This is a collection of poems written by a 'literature teacher'.So,the choice of words has to be immaculate and the poetess doesn't disappoint. Each poem has a different flavour of emotion.Further there were lot of rhyming words which make the reading more enjoyable.Other than that,if one 'reads between the lines',one gets to know a lot about life in the hills, relationships, family bonds(my favourite is My Grandma)etc. The only flaw I find in this collection is sometimes trying to make two words rhyme, the poetess just forgot about logic('while' cannot be rhymed with 'leaf on Nile'). Flaws aside,I can assure that future of contemporary Indian poetry is in good hands. Well done Srishty!!!
It's been a while since I reviewed any book.I was given this ebook by the author somewhere last year in exchange of an honest review. I have seen both, all positive and all negative review about this one and will try to give my take on the book without getting affected by other reviews:
Before starting with the poems I would like to talk about the title. To be very honest I wasn't very impressed with the title in the beginning and after reading the book more so because somewhere it doesn't make sense to me. I understand the book has been written by the author at different phases and stages of her life but still it doesn't connect in my opinion and maybe it could have been better thought about .
Getting into the content, I would say it was quite good. One thing I appreciate about this book is that these actually look and sound like poems. To be very honest I have gotten sick to the core reading all the so called modern poetry book that have more quotes in the name of poems. I like when the poems have a rhythm, they are simple yet impactful where required and the author had poems that offered the same. Yes, I do agree with some reviewers on the editing and grammar part. There are places where the words used are wrong changing the entire meaning even though it has the same sound and I blame it on final editing. I won't really say that this entirely makes the book rubbish. But yes it could have been better.
I particularly liked some poems over other like: If you dream and It's never too late.
First of all a huge thanks to the author for sharing me a copy of the book and allowing me to enjoy her creative outpours in form of poetry. The book for me was a mixed experience as there were parts I liked and there were parts I didn’t. But the fact remains that poetry does fascinate me, so this too did its job in doing that.
I have always felt that poetry requires a certain skill set. You need to have a special eye for the words to make the right impact and echo your feeling. This on the other hand is a two layer process and what decides the quality of a poetry. So now that I have stopped making sense and throwing words around let’s get to the actual work.
Let’s begin with the things that bothered me about the poetry. I felt that even though the theme was prevalent there in each poem, it wasn’t executed fully. For me each poem was like a necklace that was made with beads that were individually beautiful but when put together wasn’t shining as it should have been.
Each line and the thought were amazing but when it was put together it did sort of lacked in holding on to the core theme or subject of the poem . So the main thought or theme kind of blurred . Each line though was trying to convey the same subject, appeared different from the main context
Now that I have nit picked the work, lets get to the good part. I can actually list down the lines in each poem that had bowled me over. Each poem had one or two lines that was simply too good and had stayed with me even after I finished reading. It was surprising that each poem in the book had a line that I wanted to actually get framed and hang on the walls to see daily as I wake up in the morning
Either it would be the thought or simply the combination of words but something that stayed in my head. So that actually for me was the best part and easy enough to overlook everything else in the book
In conclusion I would say that the book truly gave me some of the best lines I have come across. I love the ability of the author to play with words in such a rhythmic fashion. The book is short and quickest read. It is thought provoking and best part is that it can be enjoyed without being too heavy on brain
Don't you just love those stories with a message attached. I know I do. I especially love the book "From All The Directions." By Shristy Sinha. This book consists of a collection of 25 poems that speak to people of all ages. Whether you be old, young, black, or blue theres a Poem for everyone. What I love about these poems though is that they are story poems. Meaning it's not just a bunch of random words plastered onto a page with really no purpose. Which I love. I have always hated reading poetry that meant absolutely nothing. So the fact that her poems are written ethier with a message of love attached or written in the form of a story is quite refreshing. Definitely worth the read.
I give this book 5 stars. Great job Shristy. You are a very talented writer.
'From All the directions' is a beautiful collection of 25 different flavoured poems which touches various aspects of life. It contains one poem for every age group -a kid, a teenager, middle aged or elderly. The writing style is quite pleasing. The way the author has weaved her words to express her thoughts is also very fascinating. Overall a Must read book.
A beautiful collection of poetry with rhythm and style. I was instantly drawn in by the song like rhythm of the verses and found it hard to pull away. My favourites from the collection include: "My Grandma", "Poor Farmer" and "Difference".
Wonderful collection of poems. I am not a poetry lover but after reading this book I will look forward to read some more from the author. Lovely wire up, easy to understand, simple yet poetic.
Would you like do Keep calm and read the poems??? Today's reveiw about the poems specks ... Book : From all the direction (an inspiration turn to a poetess)
Oh what should I say about this poems they are different from other one , They are simply narrated the word chosen by poetess is so effective for the situation. All are from different situations some are heavy and some are lights , I read this poems in night while going bed I felt extremely peaceful.. Took almost more than 10 days to complete cause one day only 1 or 2 poems not more than it Author need to add more poems as well go more deep, Current one are so good so should I aspect more in future ??? Lovely collection and diffent read. Best thing the cover and the title loved it . Only title is enough for you can pick this book
The poems are so simple and well expressed that the reader feels engaged through out. The description of a leopard out in the night, the fears lurking in the hearts of listeners, the thrill and excitement of a first love, and the joys of motherhood are all delightfully packed in this little book of heartfelt poems.
I especially enjoyed the poem, 'Yester-night for its wild life appeal, 'Grandma' for the genuine sentimentality, 'Best is there,' for its magical appeal of a dream-like world, and 'You're not my son,' for such a wise and deep insight into a delicate theme, especially during times when we still face gender discrimination.
A great effort by the poetess, and look forward to more of her creations.
