Franks finds himself in a bind and enlists the help of his friend, Brett Jacobs, to help alleviate the problem. Barberio's Butchers, a small-time gang with big-time aspirations, is looking to put a hurting on the pawn shop owner. It's up to Jacobs to make sure that doesn't happen.
While that's going on, Mallette finds himself with a new lawyer, one he didn't ask for. This one, though, has better news for him than Alexander did. It seems that Mallette is on the comeback and retaking control of his operation. With that in mind, some of the holdovers from Alexander's bunch are intent on impressing their new boss and put a hit out. Someone is taking a bullet. But who?

One would think that by now after the Eliminator (Brett Jacobs) took out Moulette's entire crew and got his successor mob boss Roger Alexander (who took over operations while Moulette is in prison) arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder that the remainder of Alexander's crew would lay low and not come after the Eliminator. But no, those dimwitted death wishers want to get into Moulette's good graces should he be released early and makes a comeback to resume his former operations.
Even after previous failures, they still seem to think that they have a shot to take out the the Eliminator "because he's human and just one guy". Do these criminals take the time to learn from the failure of others (who learned the hard way from the body counts) that coming after the Eliminator is high risk, hazardous to their health and could result in their OWN elimination?
Just when you think the Eliminator's mission is over as he has avenged his family (with the exception of Moulette himself), the threats continue as they keep coming after the Eliminator. Yet, it never ends well in spite of their overwhelming numbers. The smarter play is to keep their distance because at some point, I could see the Eliminator taking the fight to New York as soon as he finishes off the mob in Chicago because of their involvement in setting things in motion for the additional attacks.
I don't know where Mike Ryan is taking this in the next few books but I am here for the ride. I'd love to see a team up with some of the other characters (like The Silencer and others) to help the Eliminator face off against the New York mob, but that's my fantasy. If Mr. Ryan doesn't take it there at some point, he is missing an opportunity. *wink*
The Eliminator saga is highly recommended as an action packed suspense thriller and a fast and fun read. As you can see, I finished this in one day.
