It’s a very short book, but it’s full to the brim with basic yet very interesting mermaid facts for anybody that is starting to delve a little bit into mermaid mythology.
It’s full of vibrant illustrations and very interesting typography. It also contains recipes, spells, arts and crafts, and inspiration relating to mermaids. It’s definitely beautiful and perfect for anyone who is just starting to get into mermaid mythology!
It’s cute! Nice variety of mermaid and types of sources. The illustrations were cute, too, if a bit repetitive in places. I only wish it was a little longer and had more information.
I know the book would probably be triple its length if there was a thorough explanation/context of everything, but I’d be okay with that. Too often I went, “Oh, wow, how interesting!” and the book went, “Yeah, I know, right?” before yanking me to another unrelated topic on the next page. I guess I just need to accept that this is first and foremost supposed to be an entertaining fast facts book and not a source for research purposes. Still, I’m glad there’s a bibliography so that I can learn more information about certain pages.
Also, I haven’t made any of them yet but the mermaid-themed recipes look REALLY fun and I definitely want to give them a shake.
A whimsical read. Cute illustrations and interesting “tid-bits” (I hesitate to call them facts). Still, it was interesting and enjoyable. I’ll read anything with a mermaid on the cover!
Not a children's book. This is a collection of small factoids about mermaids and includes stories about movies, statues and festivals that revolve around mermaids. The folklore of different countries is mentioned: Folklore amongst fishermen and the oceans is expected and there is a lto of itt.
