She's feisty and tempting. And she doesn't let anything come in the way of her mission. I've dealt with my fair share of rule-breakers. So, Delilah isn't what I need. But I can't stop dreaming about holding her in my arms. She might be hiding a secret. A secret that could destroy me and burn the city to the ground.
There's only one question that remains. Is she worth the destruction that she's about to cause?
I’ve said this before but I guess I’ll repeat myself yet again: anytime I see a book by Felicity Brandon I pick it up, knowing full well that I’m about to embark on an adventure, usually a dark one, but so much fun that I can’t deny myself the rather guilty pleasure. She never disappoints me, and she maintains her excellence in this book as well.
Tempted is another book in the Dark Necessities series. This time we meet Dalton, brother to Connor and son to Ethan and Lily. Unlike his father and brother, Dalton is a little lighter, a tad softer and far less harsh. Now don’t get me wrong here, Dalton is very much an anti-hero, he’s just not as hard edged as the other men in his family.
Dalton meets Delilah, a woman with a hidden agenda, who, despite her best efforts, starts to have feelings for him. But Delilah is hiding something and due to Dalton’s special talent of mind reading, he’s aware of this. The story unfolds from there in the most wonderful of ways.
Always a pleasure to read, Felicity’s worlds and characters are engaging, interesting and unique. If you like dark romance, and I do, you can’t go wrong with her books. I enjoyed every minute of this. Highly recommended.
I really wanted to like Tempted I just couldn't connect to the story and the characters , this would be the first book that I've read by the author and I would like to revisit this story in the future .
Hands down, FAN-flipping-tastic!! I read this one (like ALL Ms Brandon's other Dark Necessities books) in ONE D*MN STRAIGHT READ! I could NOT put this one down. And the further into the story I got, the faster & faster I was compelled to read. In my opinion, Ms Brandon is one of the few writers I view as more than a writer, I consider her to be a flat out wordsmith. A Crafter of the finest product, a diamond of the first water. Why? Because no matter the story (from pitch black to gray to light) the words she writes have a beautiful flow & symmetry, they enclose the reader, engulf you into the world she paints, pull you effortlessly into the plot, into caring about her characters (the good, the bad & the flatout evil) & what happens to them, why they do what they do. AND, more than that (for me), the writing itself is wonderfully substantial. There's 'meat' to grab onto as a reader, there's beautifully evocative phrasing & vocabulary, the difference between listening to a pop tune & a symphony: both fine in the right circumstances, at the right time. I am a FAST reader so I greatly appreciate a story that gives me substance to dive into, plot & characters to delve into, to enable me to submerge myself far, far away from where I am & vault me into the writers world. And yet, never does the author 'pad' or extend out any of the story. A beautiful & superb & perfect balance of structure & substance. And the story has a smooth & stellar flow. And this one, although (so far) lighter anti-Hero wise, has a fascinating & deceptively dominant male, Dalton Reilly. Not as cruel, or heavy handed, or consumed as his father Ethan & younger brother Connor, but firm, intense & focused. And he becomes very, very focused on an auburn haired firecracker that catches his attention. And Dalton is a DELICIOUS anti-Hero I loved. He's older, fit, handsome, genteel & sensible. Except when it comes to a certain firecracker. And, Delilah (heroine), oh Delilah. Everything I normally loathe in a heroine: sassy, smart-mouthed, hardheaded, bratty. But Ms. Brandon COMPLETELY sucked me into Delilah's character: giving us peeks into her innermost thoughts, worries, fears, insecurities & I very, very quickly came to greatly admire & empathize & LIKE Delilah. A lot. In addition, Delilah has a spine of tempered steel & an attitude that hides a lot of damage & insecurity as well as lusts & desires she's not aware she craves. And I also loved that she is in her early thirties. This one is lighter overall (again, so far) than Ethan's (Dalton's father) & Connor's (Dalton's younger brother) stories but there is delightful & sizzling steam as Dalton introduces Delilah to his particular kink(s), a wonderful emotional battle of wills & feelings between a natural Dominant & a woman fighting her submissive desires, addictive lust, violence, angst, secrets, lies & betrayals. What more could a reader ask for?! I found this to be a superbly written, emotionally exciting, heartgrabbing, intensely wonderful read that I recommend without reservation.
P.S. If you want to know about Dalton's father & brother, I highly suggest reading the other 2 'Dark Necessities' trilogies, which are much darker but equally as stellar!
A magnificent read I simply had to finish in one sitting, up all night, but so so worth it! A gripping BDSM read full of criminal organisations, bent cops, love, fear, hate and so much more in Dalton and Delilah’s first book of their story in the Dark Necessities series. You would never believe that Dalton was Connor’s brother in this compelling absorbing tale of love and hate between this older, younger couple! A book I am going to highly recommend in ms Brandon’s amazing series! Everyone has a partner now but Dalton and he is feeling his age! Until he meets the feisty, loud and ungrateful Delilah and her best friend Polly, she is everything he doesn’t want in a relationship! But what was it that bugged him about Delilah? What was she doing in the club when everything shocks her in Diablo, one of the BDSM clubs Dalton manages for The Syndicate? What was Delilah’s mission working undercover at the club and had she blown her cover with her stupid judgemental outpouring? Dalton doesn’t trust her but is drawn to her but will she be the downfall of The Syndicate? Delle does not understand how Dalton always knows what she is thinking with his telepathic abilities! Her defiance draws him in ever closer! He realises his Little Firecracker was everything he needed and didn’t know he wanted! But who is Jacob and what has he got on Delilah? Will Delilah suffer the same fate as her mother? I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy
Man, where do I start? I've read the other 2 trilogy's in this journey and they took me to places in my mind I didn't think I would ever go. Now we are getting the last brother's story. Dalton!!!!! He totally different from his father and his brother.................but is he really? That's the question that is lurking in the back of my mind. Delle is no weak and wimpy woman. She's strong, she's very mouthy and she's very, very stubborn. As this story starts to unfold, we learn more about each character. Each has secrets that they aren't telling each other. I'm officially sucked into their story now and I need the next one. Yup, it's a cliffhanger but we don't have that long to wait so I'm good.
This is the only full-length book of Ms. Brandon's I've ever read to the end. I failed to finish Taken and The Viking's Conquest since public humiliation, kidnapping, torture, rape, and murder aren't my kinks. Her shorter fiction for anthologies is much less harsh (Ladder 54: Five Firefighter Romances and Vikings), as is the occasional stray book (Taming Lady Lydia). Because the reviews indicated that Dalton wasn't the sociopath his brother is, I decided to try it. I'm glad I did. Below is what worked and what, well, worked less well for me.
What Worked:
1) Consent: This was consensual. Though there was one incident at the beginning that was dub-con (and, no, it isn't rape), I felt that Dalton would have stopped if Delilah had really wanted him to. Every other time, he was careful to get her consent. I also appreciated that he always wanted to know how she felt about what they tried. Part of that was because it excited him to hear her articulate her feelings, but he also genuinely wanted her to enjoy their play.
2) Dalton: Was mature, thoughtful, caring, strong, trustworthy, and honorable. He .
3) Erotic Scenes: Are well-described, detailed, varied (and, thank god, private; there's no public exhibitionism like there is in the author's other books) without being too harsh (no welts or bruises).
4) Writing: By and large (see my caveats below), the writing is decent. I thought the author did a particularly good job of alternating between the characters' povs by having one start where the other ends with some overlapping dialogue (almost like a film dissolve). In addition, this is possible to read as a stand-alone. Though I haven't read the other trilogies, I never felt lost since those characters weren't important to this story (that may change in subsequent books). I'm sure readers familiar with the other trilogies will pick up on things I didn't, but I'm not conscious of missing anything.
What Worked Less Well (I hesitate to call the below "dislikes;" it was more that I thought these elements could be stronger):
1) Delilah: Though I empathized with her later, I found her initial abrasiveness and over-the-top histrionics at the beginning of the book off-putting. For one thing, given what we later learn about her background, it was unbelievable that she would be that shocked by what goes on in a consensual BDSM club. Further, given that she was supposed to be experienced and good at what she does (I can't really reveal more without spoilers), she handles herself so badly here and evinces such a lack of self-control that she comes across as much younger than her age. Authors frequently think they're writing "feisty" female characters, but they frequently confuse "sassy" with annoying and "independent" with childishness. I also felt that the author only paid lip-service to what Dalton kept saying was her "challenging" behavior. In fact, she folds at her first spanking; her objections to his orders are perfunctory; and she never once expresses any limits (for someone with no BDSM experience, she goes from 0 to 60 in one day). Dalton saw her a "handful" and was "intrigued by her," but I was unclear why since I personally didn't find her compelling.
2) Plot: Another thing I didn't find compelling. In a genre increasingly obsessed with mafia/bratva storylines, many of those tropes were present here, but not in new or exciting ways. We see the rival criminal families, sleek apartments and nice cars, seductive criminals with some sense of honor and evil criminals with none, , violence, intrigue, etc. Perhaps the next book will be more inventive.
3) Writing: There were some editing errors ("Polly" became "Poppy" and "Dalton" "Connor"). In addition, the internal monologues were very repetitious without providing much new information (we heard way too many times that Dalton didn't trust Delilah even though he was attracted to her and that Delilah "had a job to do").
Finally, I didn't understand what Dalton's mind-reading abilities contributed and, in an otherwise fairly realistic book, it was jarring.
3 1/2 stars. Note: While ymmv, I adhere to the ratings system as laid out by Goodreads: 2 stars = it was okay; 3 stars = liked it; 4 stars = really liked it; 5 stars = it was amazing. I gave this book 3 1/2 stars because it drew me in and I'll read the sequel, even though I thought both Delilah and the plot could be more interesting. I do not think that every book I read is "amazing;" further, I think that it cheapens the rating system to always assign 4 or 5 stars. If a book really earns the 4 or 5 stars (and I realize that this is, to some degree, subjective), I'll give them -- but it certainly shouldn't apply to every book. Again, ymmv, and everyone should enjoy/rate these books as they wish.
Thank goodness when I read Felicity Brandon's stories, especially this insane series, I know that I'm actually getting dark & twisty, instead of sissy characters with no substance. So, here we are, Dalton's Tale. He comes from quite the family tree, as he's brother to Connor, with his parents being Ethan & Lily, so he's got some psycho blood running through his veins, though I'm more partial to Dalton, since some that psycho is tempered with a tad bit of soft & good. So, I'm telling you the straight up truth here, he quickly found an actual place in my heart, unlike the other men in his family tree, who just had me enraged the whole time until they didn't. So Dalton meets Delilah, a secretive hooker in her own right, which is translating into a hidden agenda, and I'm not sure how I felt about that, since Ms. Brandon decided to flip the script up on me. Now, the shady Delilah actually starts to catch feelings for Dalton, and despite the bit of softness he has in him, he still has his own talent to figure out people, so despite him catching feelings, she's not getting the drop on him, or is she?! Obviously, at this point, the twists & turns start coming from every direction, as only they can do coming from Ms. Brandon's diabolical mind. I've started accepting of the truly unknown since every time I'm convinced that Ms. Brandon will zig, but instead she zags, so now I just happily drop f-bombs & go on my merry way of reading a story that I'll never fully figure out the direction it's heading. Now tell me that's not the best kind of suspense, as I promise you, none of this author's stories will ever get boring or predictable. And while I would love to keep going on, that's not advisable because I don't want to ruin anyone's experience of these dark & twisty tales of psychos, so I'm going to stop here. Now, it's up to you to one click to actually experience the fun for yourselves, so what are you waiting for?! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
WOW!!! Felicity Brandon, once again has taken her readers into this world of intrigue and passion with Tempted the Dark Necessities - Dalton's Tale. So excited that Dalton, son of Ethan and Lilly finally has his own story. We witness a less harsh man unlike his brother Connor and father, but none the less he has his own ways of handling situations within the Syndicate. Dalton who is in charge of the clubs for the Syndicate and is only going through the motions, unsure of why he is feeling so out of sorts, he finds he is yearning for a relationship, as he is not satistifed with scening at Club Diablo. Enters Delilah, feisty loud mouth beautiful young woman who goes to Diablo under false pretenses, for she is really undercover for Jacob who wants her to get info to take the Syndicate down. Delilah causes a scene at the club and catches the eye of Dalton, now the fun begins as she dosen't know he has the ability to read minds that he inherited from his father, so he decides to push her boundaries. Dehila pretends to know the ins and outs of a BDSM Club, but soon finds herself once again starting trouble. Now Dalton takes her on a journey of awakening her submissive side and Delilah finds that she loves and yearns for everything Dalton does to her. When Dalton has Saul check Delilah's backgound he finds out that she is working with Jacob but does not know what he has on her. Dalton soon comes to terms that he has deep feelings for her and wants to protect her. Trouble is surrounding Delilah when Jacob finds and beats her after spending days with Dalton. Now Dalton and his men are racing to get to her in time. This story was dramatic, exhilarating, steamy and at times funny. This is must read and I can't wait for the next one when Connor and Molly hopefully appear. I voluntairly reviewed an advance copy of this book.
Ms. Brandon is one of the Queen of Dark Romances. She is an amazing writer and I love her books and have been especially taken with her Dark Necessities series. I was really excited to read Dalton’s story. He is not as dark as his brother and father, but he cannot be a part of the Syndicate without having some dirt on his hands. In this book, we met Delilah. We don’t know her story, but we know pretty quickly that she is not telling the truth. I did not like Delilah. Not at the beginning, anyway. Dalton is attracted to her, but it is unclear to me why. She is brash, loud, aggressive... completely unsubmissive. As the story progressed, there are a lot of titillating sexy scenes. They are very well written. However, for me personally, I found it harder to stay engaged as I did not really see the connection between the characters, especially emotionally. There were a lot of sexual scenes, which can be good, but it may have come at the expense of telling the rest of the story in between the sexy. I found myself wanting even more about Delilah’s background and the angst built up between Dalton and Delilah. However, regardless, this is a well written book overall. I am sure others are going to love this story. While it was not my favorite of Ms. Brandon’s, I still will be waiting in breathless anticipation of her next book.
This is the story of Dalton from the Dark Necessities Series. He is brother to Connor and the son of Ethan and Lily. Dalton is more laid-back than the other men in his family. But, do not let that fool you. He has a method of his own, that took me on an erotic journey that I will never forget.
A BDSM Club and a chance meeting with a headstrong, feisty Delilah, captures Dalton’s attention. He runs the clubs for the Syndicate and therefore must maintain certain decorum. When Delilah has difficulty with one of the scenes she witnessed, Dalton tries to figure out why. This story is filled with secrets and a hidden agenda. What is her real motivation for being at the Club? Who is Delilah working for?
Almost half way into the book, at a very intimate moment, Delilah made an unexpected comment that actually made me laugh out loud. As they got to know each other, I felt the eroticism of their connection, and I felt the beauty of her hesitant submission.
OMG!!! Felicity Brandon is a genius with words. She lead me into feelings and emotions I would never have predicted. It is like she is a sorceress, who can cast a spell upon her reader’s mind, heart and soul, taking us to places of intrigue, exhilaration and passionate fulfillment.
Dalton was the quieter of the two brothers. He saved Connor many a time but now it seems Dalton is in trouble himself. He goes to club Diablo for a quiet night but a woman at the front of the line starts to mouth off at him. After finding her name and that of her friend he makes her apologise and then gets them entrance. Once inside Polly wants to play but Delilah won’t let her. They get shown around and Delilah cause a scene in one of the rooms. Dalton decides he has to teach her a lesson. He got her to go to the club the next day for a proper look around. Delilah is not on the level and only wants information for her boss. The next day Dalton catches her out on the job she does. He doesn’t trust her as she keeps asking too many questions. At the same time Dalton is intrigued by her. Dalton gives her a lesson in what goes on at the club. Delilah finds herself wanting more. I’m not going to spoil the rest but only to say you will not be able to put it down can’t wait for the next book.

OMG! This is a fabulous read. I devoured the words and wished for more. I'm always amazed by Felicity Brandon's way with words. Her stories come alive, wrap themselves around me, and hold my attention even after I've finished reading them. This one is slightly less dark than some of the other books in this amazing group of books, but it's not a fluffy romance. It's a captivating read that will grab your attention and not let go. I loved the heat level and the sense of danger and suspense in this one. And, I may have a twisted sense of humor, but there were a lot of moments that made me giggle like a crazy person.
The characters are some of my new favorites. Dalton is a more lighthearted man than his brother, Connor, and his father, Ethan, but he captured my heart is the same way they did. Delilah is a smart-mouth who has a hidden agenda. I loved her ballsy take-no-crap attitude. Their story is going to be a wild ride!
I loved every second of this book. I didn't want to put it down and I can't get it out of my head. The next one can't come fast enough!
Time for Dalton’s story to be told. He’s the more quieter less harsh of the Reilly men. Dalton isn’t the psycho his dad was. Or the obsessed stalker like his brother. But he is still intense and determined. Dalton is also pure alpha and dominant in nature and personality. Delilah is a loud brash type of woman. I didn’t like the way she came off when Ms. Brandon introduces her to the reader. I absolutely love feisty sassy heroines. But for me she was more abrasive and aggressive. As the author reveals more of the story,Delilah’s thoughts and behaviors had me seeing more of her than what she shows the world. When Dalton and Delle’s lives collide both are in for one hell of a wake up call. She intrigues Dalton like no other woman ever has. And he shows her things she never thought was possible for her to crave. Ms. Brandon weaves a story of suspense and mystery that she intertwines with the BDSM world. Looking forward to what she has in store for Dalton and Delle in the next book.
After Conner and Ethan’s story we finally get to know more about Dalton. In some ays he is like his father and brother, but he is not as dark.
Dalton’s nickname for Delilah is very well chosen. She is a little firecracker. That is what makes their interactions a lot of fun. There are very well matched.
I really enjoyed reading about Delilah first steps into the world of BDSM. There were so many conflicting feelings and emotions. She feels like she shouldn’t like this at al, but then she does and what does that make her. I loved getting inside her head like that.
Dalton is not left cold by all of this too, He is starting to understand his father and brother more.
And then there are secrets. Secrets that could ruin everything.
Ms Brandon has done it again! We’ve had Connor and Molly’s story. Then Ethan and Lily’s. Now it’s time for Dalton. He has the same gift/curse thing that his father and grandfather had but seems to be missing the psycho gene. Dalton meets a fiery red head named Delilah waiting in line to get into one of his BDSM Clubs. She causes a big scene later and ends up getting a personal lesson in BDSM from Dalton. Sparks fly between these two but Delilah is hiding a big secret that could be deadly for each of them. There are lots of deliciously hot steamy scenes between these two and I can’t wait to see what’s in store in the next book in this trilogy.
Alright for the first half of the book I could NOT stand Delilah at all! Her character was just rude and uneducated about bdsm. Now normally I wouldn’t care that a character had no knowledge on this subject but Delilah claimed she did and then went on to assume that no one would submit willingly to that world. Honestly I almost couldn’t read this book because of her. About 60% of the way through she starts to like what Dalton has taught her about it and starts acting nicer as well. Because of that I was able to finish the book but it did not change my dislike for her. I think Dalton deserved someone better.
I really enjoyed Daltons story it was very interesting he has the patience of a saint when dealing with Deliah who is a tornado of emotion and speaks her mind and he knows exactly how to get her to where he needs her to be and push those boundaries. I found Dalton very calm so different from Ethan and Connor and very passive and extremly passionate and being with Delilah has opened up his mind I can't wait to see what he's gonna do and with Connor on his way back that got me excited I can't wait to see them reunite. This story is full of passion, trust, secrets it has everything, and I know there are dangers coming I'm prepared and super excited .
Amazing that is what Felicity Brandon’s books are. This series of books just seems to go on and that’s good cause you don’t want it to stop. This one started about the youngest brother Dalton who thankfully is nothing like his father so far. Although he enjoys the benefits of BDSM and running a club that deals in it at least his girls get to live.
Dalton seems to fall hard for the spitfire Delle and tries to save her from her former life with some bad men. I just hope it all works out in the end. I guess we will see. I loved this sexually charged, tempting and romantic journey between Dalton and Delilah. Can’t wait for the next book.
I am in awe of Felicity Brandon’s creativity in the Dark Necessities storylines. I absolutely love Tempted the latest spinoff from the series. Her main characters Dalton and Delilah were such a wonderful couple to read about. Their fiery passion for each other was impossible to resist, they were drawn to one another. It was hard to stop reading this book once I started it. The difficulties they had to overcome to be together kept me intrigued and sitting on the edge of my seat to find out what was going to happen next. I can not wait until the next book comes out. I highly recommend this book to everyone, it has it all intrigue, suspense and a passion that will set your kindle on fire.
In Tempted, we meet Dalton, Connor's brother, a much softer man in the family. Don't get me wrong, he still knew how to tickle mine (and obviously Delilah's) fancy, but it was nicer to see there was a lighter side in the family. Delilah plays off the innocent, which confused Dalton from the beginning. Why, if everything shocks her, was she in his BDSM club? And her red headed spirit ends in getting a lesson from him in the language of BDSM, whether she wanted it or not. This book has a little more love and lighter feel than the rest of Ms. Brandon's reads, but I loved it nonetheless.
I cannot get enough of the Dark Necessities novels, and Dalton's has started with such intensity. I'm already in love with Dalton! No matter his proclivities, he is a romantic, caring, loving man. I cannot wait to find out more! Delle has been a challenge, but a challenge Dalton is so ready for! Loved this "but Delilah wasn't a love-sick fool, and this wasn't a paperback novel." !!!!! This got me too... "Well, I guess you're not going to be doing much thinking for the next couple of hours then." Ms. Brandon keeps hitting it out of the park!!!!
Ok I gotta say that I was warn that Dalton story was not going to be as dark as Connor and Ethan story was but I was hoping for just a little bit of it. The story was still good you still get that bdsm on this one but it did not grab me as much as Ethan did I think he became my favorite of the Reilly guys. And Delilah I don't know if she will be one that I will like I like her sass but I think she had to much of it lol!. But I'm still sticking with the series and see what will happen next to Dalton and Delilah what journey awaits for them.
The dark world of the Syndicate brings its share of mistrust and when the feisty red head falls into Daltons world he knows she is not telling the whole truth. He's going to teach her the rules of BDSM and find out what it is she really is after. When Delilah makes her entrance into Daltons world she is there for a purpose to gain information on the Syndicate and inform Jacob. She has no choice but to do what he says he owns her,but can she keep up her charade and not break cover. Love the Dark Necessities Series they are a nonstop read for me.
Dalton and Delilah's story is full of intense chemistry, heat and sex, lies, manipulations, betrayal and more. Each has secrets that have formed them into the people they are, but they have secrets that they hide from themselves as well as others. Their journey has started and will include delving into a world of BDSM, chemistry, unexpected feelings and their own demons. But there is a price to pay for everything. Intense, dark, gripping, emotional and compelling. This is a must read! More please!
I’m so involved in Dalton & Delilah and all of a sudden it ended. I really got into these two people. It wasn’t like I was reading a book, I felt like I was with them. Dalton is one hell of a sexy man. At first I wasn’t crazy about Delilah. She was a snot nosed bitch. Then she finally realized what a man she had and he was going to protect her. Now another person in the syndicate. (Spoiler). I want the next book now! I’m going to crazy waiting. Loved, loved, loved Tempted. Great job Felicity as usual !

This was a good start to Daltons story. He isn't quite like his brother or his dad. That is for sure. But he does have plenty of things similar as well. And he has instant attraction to Delilah. Even tho she comes off as a antagonistic person and is very uneducated about the BDSM lifestyle.
My favorite part is probably when Dalton takes Delilah over his lap for the first time and she starts seeing a bit more of the lifestyle. And she also gets a bit of an attitude adjustment.
Oh good lord was this so worth waiting for. Dalton needed his own story and I really enjoyed him finding it with Delilah. There is something about his patient wait while doing the Syndicates work, babysitting Connor, watching over the clubs that makes his story compelling and sensual and perfect. I really hope that there is one for Saul and cannot wait for more with the brothers.
