Sun & Moon Academy Book One: Fall Semester

Rate this book
Ten paranormal tales and one page-turning supernatural academy story in this spinoff from the award-winning Havenwood Falls universe.

The brand new Sun & Moon Academy College of Supernatural Guardians is an elite training program for a covert army that protects the supernatural community around the world. After a series of grueling trials to test their worthiness, only the top tier of applicants are admitted to the hidden college under the mountain.

We are ten of those students.

We’re a powerful mix of shifters, witches, vampires, demigods, angels, and more, making SMA no ordinary university. Throw in classes about healing potions, inter-dimensional exploration, and combat training, and college life here is a bit . . . well, unusual. But we still must juggle studying, obnoxious roommates, and killer parties. And, of course, we always make room for romance. How can we not? No other place in the world teems with such a sexy fusion of brains and badassery.

But classes haven’t even begun when our campus is terrorized, and the dangers continue throughout the semester—a hacker who threatens to publicly expose our school, a string of vampire attacks, invisible beasts with deadly bites, cursed classrooms that devour those who dare enter . . . What the hell kind of place is this, anyway?

For some reason that not even the Board of Regents has been able to figure out, it’s up to the ten of us to defeat these monsters and mayhem—before the sands in the big courtyard hourglass run out. Yep, we’re being timed, and the bodies are dropping almost as fast as the crystals. If any of us fail, this first semester of SMA just might be the last one ever.

In this unique anthology of over 750 pages, you not only get ten paranormal fantasy novellas, but one sweeping story that will have you flipping pages until the end.

****, ****, ****! Yes, I am censoring myself. AAAAHHHHH

SMA Fall Semester was a freaking ride! Each story started where the last one left off, they flowed so smoothly! These authors are A-MAZ-ING! I need more, like yesterday! While you don't need to read ANY of the previous books, I loved knowing who everyone was prior. This whole town is something special. Love, love, LOVE! (No, that's not the four letter word I started with)

The Havenwood Falls universe is expanding, this time with a whole new type of supernatural creatures: college students.

This semester launches the introduction of Sun & Moon Academy, a College of Supernatural Guardians that acts as an elite training program for a covert army charged with protecting the world’s supernatural community. Students are offered acceptance by invitation only, and after passing a series of gruelling trials to test their worthiness, the top tier are admitted to the hidden college under the mountain. This semester ten students will find themselves “marked” in a series of personalised trials that require them to defeat monsters and mayhem that threaten to destroy campus before time runs out. This is not your typical classroom exercise either. The longer each marked student takes to succeed, the higher the body count grows.

The first collection in the new Sun & Moon Academy spin-off features ten paranormal tales from some of the Collective’s award-winning and bestselling authors, including Kristie Cook, Tish Thawer, Belinda Boring, Rose Garcia, Victoria Flynn, EJ Fechenda, Amy Richie, Victoria Escobar, and Justine Winter. In addition to the collection’s variety of authors, the diversity of supernatural creatures you can expect to find in attendance at SMA runs from vampires to shifters, to angels, and even Valkyries. The students themselves, when they’re not practicing magic, include a host of new faces, familiar family names, and an inclusive student body that takes care to represent the diverse voices of a true university campus. SMA, with its Norse mythology flair and an under-mountain campus that makes Hogwarts Castle look plain by comparison, is truly a home for all furred, fanged, and feathery.

As with any collection, some stories are stronger than others, but all remain true to the unique voice of Havenwood Falls, proving again publisher and Universe-creator Kristie Cook’s unquestionable talent for collaborative world-building and visionary storytelling. Personal favourites in Sun & Moon Academy Book 1 include EJ Fechenda’s “Time to Live”, a story about a time-spinning witch who finds herself torn between the ghost of a boy she visits in a netherworld and her love interest in real time, and Rose Garcia’s “Chasing Time”, wherein Infiniti Clausman (a recent addition to Havenwood Falls High, the universe’s YA fantasy line) finds the power within herself to overcome her challenge.

Whether it’s a supernatural love-triangle you’re interested in or something a little darker, it’s impossible not to fall in love with these characters and their world. As for this reviewer, I’m still holding out for my Hogwarts letter, but if a wooden puzzle box with a star and moon etched on top shows up on my doorstep, I might trade in my wand and head to Havenwood Falls and Sun & Moon Academy instead.

Thank you Inkslinger for an advanced copy which I voluntarily reviewed. All opinions expressed are my own.

This book was a pleasant surprise. It's actually ten novellas written by different authors that move seamlessly from one to the next. I never felt like I was reading different stories because they shared a great commonality with the underlying main story. Each story gave a snippet of a particular character, and I enjoyed them all. The premise is unique and interesting, and it's for everyone to read, even if you don't like anthologies. I'm interested to read more about the Havenwood Falls universe.

Sun & Moon Academy Book One: Fall Semester is an anthology that has one storyline that flows throughout all of the separate novellas by:
Kristie Cook, Tish Thawer, Belinda Boring, Rose Garcia, Victoria Flynn, E.J. Fechenda, Amy Richie, Victoria Escobar, and last but not least, Justine Winter.

I have been a fan of Kristie Cook since I discovered her Soul Savers Series, from that I moved on to her other series which finally led me to the Havenwood Falls Series. The latter is written by Kristie and many authors that she brought together to write their own style of story, be it New Adult, Romance, Historical, Steamy etc, but all paranormal and all set in Havenwood Falls. In Havenwood Falls there is the Sun & Moon Academy, and it is there that we are introduced to some new characters, and reunited with some old. They are all there taking part in an elite training program for a covert army that protects the supernatural community.

Before any of that training can begin the academy is attacked, nobody knows who is behind the attacks or the reason why but it comes down to 10 different students at the academy to save the academy and it's inhabitants. Each author in the anthology writes one of the 10 different heroes stories and you will want to read as quickly as you can to find the answers to all of the questions that will crop up from the very start.

I have read 4 of the stories so far and cannot fault them, I love how the main story continues throughout and reading how each 'chosen' student has to figure out how to protect the academy and the shock they have when they realise that they are indeed 'chosen'. The mix of supernatural species is enthralling and the imagination that goes into each of their stories knows no bounds.

I love what I have read so far and look forward to finishing the book, who IS behind the attacks!!!

What a ride! I loved most of this but there were some slower parts where I rolled my eyes and yawned. There were also some parts that left unanswered questions which I found frustrating.

However, I must give kudos where they're earned. Much like the Collector book from October 2018, this one was written by several authors and like that book, it was pretty much seamless for the reader. However, as the reader I did know which sections were written by which authors because it's stated in the book. This massive book is comprised of several individual books (like 10 separate HF books) that flow together. Each one begins where the previous book ends. The ending made me laugh out loud because it was simply exquisite. I'll definitely be staying tuned to the HF universe. I can hardly wait to see where this ride ends.

Wow, just wow. Be sure to grab a drink

This collection took me long than I expected to read through from the front to the back. All I can say is how amazed I am for the entire book.

Each story just builds onto the next one and everyone leaves you sitting on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen Next. Who is going to be the one that is causing all the pain and suffering that we are induring while we read through the pages.

You will watch your fingers turn white from gripping onto your seat so tight. Make sure you grab a drink and sit back for the journey you will still be thinking about at the end. Wow, an ending I didn't see coming.

Until Next Time.... Tabi

This book was awesomely unique. Multiple authors combined to make this book and it really works.
Supernaturals of all kinds are invited to attend The Sun and Moon Academy to become Guardians to the world.
Specific students were given a task to overcome before time ran out and their challenges were personally specific to themselves.
Through these challenges the characters overcame certain hang ups within themselves and the other students came together to help solve the challenges.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for book 2. I highly recommend this book.

Love! Love! Love!

Loved how each story flowed into the next one. You can tell how much collaboration these authors did to write about each other’s characters and have an interweaving plot line throughout. SMA was my gateway drug to all these new characters and authors. I’m now going back and reading previous books and loving them all!

Hope the spring semester is just as awesome! Can’t wait!

So much fun!!!! I have been a fan of Kristie Cook for many year now, and I have always been eager to get my hands on her books. When I got the opportunity to receive an ARC of this book which Kristie both dreamed up conceptually and participated in writing a portion of, I was thrilled. I counted down until I would be able to read it. Of course it came during a busy time of year and it about made me crazy having to put it down for periods of time to.do.other things.

This book is a combination really of 10 different acts of love, by 10 different authors all with with same storyline. The story follows various supernatural at their first semester at the new Sun and Moon Academy, a college for supernatural beings to hone and develop skills to make them more skilled protectors. Each section of the book is a mini novel by a different author following a different set of characters, the all of the mini novels weave and flow together seamlessly. I was worried I might not like the concept of different authors together in one seamless story because often different writing styles and other concepts make switching like that just not smooth. I must say, these writers worked it! I found myself drawn to wanting to know about more characters and looking forward to the shifts rather than dreading them like I feared I might. This quality of writing, seamless transitions, flow, storyline, and so much more definitely make this worthy of a 5 star review in my opinion. Well done!!!!

Welcome to the Sun & Moon Academy, where select supernaturals can receive an education while honing in on their training and survival skills to protect the world from evil. Follow ten students as they begin their first semester at this elite school. They spend their days in classes honing their specialized skills or studying in a magical library. Its important to cut loose and have some fun as well, and when you get all those supes in one place, you can bet there will be plenty of opportunity for that. Turns out their education doesn't just happen in the classroom environment when the campus undergoes attacks and its up to these select students to save the school. Oh, and they're being timed - as if college isn't stressful enough. This is a collection of stories about different students, but they are all linked, enabling this book to read like one continuous story. There is something for everyone - action, magic, humor, romance, and drama. Whether you're a seasoned fan of this fantastic cohort of writers or just discovering Havenwood Falls, this book is definitely for you.

The first book in the Sun & Moon Academy series is a trilling anthology of 10 paranormal fantasy novellas is set in the Havenwood Falls world. It follows the first group of ten student to attend the Sun & Moon Academy, which is a college for supernaturals that are being tested and trained to protect the world’s paranormal communities. Each novella is an individual tale but they are all interconnected and build seamlessly onto the overall story.
This exciting, fun book shares the ups and downs, dangers, trials and relationships encountered by the students. It is full of action, suspense, angst, mayhem, love and menace, and has a role call of shifters, vampires, witches, Valkyrie, and angels, to mention just a few. I really can’t pick a favourite story, I enjoyed them all. As with any anthology some were stronger than other but they all built onto the overall arc, leaving you with a great addition to an already captivating universe. This set of stories easily grabs your attention and keeps you enthralled right up to the surprising twist at the end.

An anthology, especially one that builds on the previous book is hard enough to do with one author, but take 10 different authors and you have freaking entertainment! I have not read the Havenwood Falls books beforehand (and will be changing that) and I was not TOO much out of the loop, but with all that is going on, I highly recommend checking out that series first to understand the world a bit more.

That being said, I freaking adored these stories. Keep in mind they are novellas and are not going to be FULLY finished books, it reminds me a bit more of a dream going in and out. Of course there are ones that I like a little more than the others, but all of them are intricate to the overall story!

If you are fans of the Havenwood Falls series, or paranormal new adult romances and strong characters, this is definitely an anthology for you to read! I enjoyed it!

PS: I received an advanced copy of the anthology to read and review honestly!

I am a huge fan of the Havenwood Falls High series. I have read over half of the individual stories set in that world. I absolutly love that each story has the same setting and sometimes characters but all by different authors. So I was absolutely thrilled to get the chance to read the next series, set at the college in the same town. We get stories we wanted continued and an over arcing story that draws you in. While I haven't made it through all 750 pages yet I am loving every single novella.
Each story ends and the next starts off right after the events. This way you have a seemless story that you don't need to switch gears between each novella.

You do not need to have read any of the Havenwood Falls High books to read this. But I will admit I loved having known the backstories of these characters. Makes me so much more invested. Now to wait around for the next one!

As part of Ang'dora Productions Review Crew I was able to read Sun & Moon Academy Book One as a review copy.

Wow, what a read!! With ten amazing paranormal tales forming a spin-off from the current Havenwood Falls universe, the Sun & Moon Academy is an epic read!

The brand new Sun & Moon Academy, College of Supernatural Guardians teaches a covert army to protect the supernatural community not only in Havenwood Falls but all around the world. Only the best of the best are admitted to the college hidden under the mountain. Book one is no gentle introduction to college life though, with a mix of witches, shifters, vamps, angels and demigods blended with romance, magic and danger it’s a rollercoaster from the very first page.

Such an amazing collection so stories, that flow so perfectly together. This set follows the first group of student to attend the Sun & Moon Academy. Their first semester is full of up and downs like any school. However the stakes here are even higher and some are deadly. Each story really flows into the next and yet you could also ready them individually if you really wanted, but I suggest reading them in order for the fullest experience.

First off, thank you to the authors for letting me read these books in exchange for a fair and honest review. I have never reviewed 11 books in one volume before so hopefully this review makes sense.

Timeless Part 1 Havenwood Falls Collective  ⅖ stars
I hadn't finished the Havenwood series prior to reading these so at the beginning this book it felt like something had happened that I missed. Story was a little too short, I didn't feel like I had enough time to connect to Rhian that much.

First Time for Everything by Victoria Escobar ⅘ stars
I felt like the story was the perfect length. I connected to Roxy's character and her story arc. I felt the romance was a little rushed but developed enough to be believable.

Shadowed by Time by Justine Winter ⅖ stars
Again I felt like this one was just too short and rushed. I didn't really connect with Nadine's story but appreciated the friendships she developed.

Time to Live by E.J. Fechenda ⅖ stars
I didn't feel much for Taylor's story again it was short but I felt like something was missing the whole time. I understand that these books are short stories but I need more than a handful of pages to connect with these characters.

The Time of the Raven by Amy Richie  ⅘ stars
I really enjoyed this one. I felt like Linnie's backstory and character was developed. I liked how the story and mystery played out and the romance was natural and not rushed.

Borrowed Time by Belinda Boring ⅘ stars
Tempest's story was a pleasant surprise. I really liked this character and the messes she was constantly getting herself into. She was relatable. And I always adore a good hate-turned-love romance!

Hel of a Time by Victoria Flynn ⅖ stars
I really liked Vanna from other books so I was looking forward to her story but I felt like it was too short. While short, the book felt slow until the very end. And I didn't care that she was of age, the whole attraction to the teacher bit just didn't scream romance to me.

A Legacy Time Forgot by Tish Thawer ⅗ stars
I was excited for Natalie's story. And it was good. I thought the flow and pacing good for most of the book and the character was developed. However something big happened which I would have liked to have seen more time spent on it to really hash out such a pivotal moment. Other than that, I enjoyed this book.

Chasing Time by Rose Garcia ⅘ stars
Infiniti was a well developed character. She had endured quite a bit of trauma and that was well established. I also liked that the romance was already established and functioning. I was thrilled that Joe's point of view was included in Infiniti's story. It made the character more real. The story was fast paced and a little too much teen drama but overall I enjoyed it.

Test of Time by Kristie Cook ⅗ stars
I liked that Brielle's story kept me guessing. The story was fast paced and kept my attention. I really liked the connection twins Brielle and Elliana had and would have liked to read more twin moments. The romance was a little rushed but sweet.

Timeless part 2 Havenwood Falls Collective ⅖ stars
The second part of Rhian's story was over almost as quickly as it began but it was nice having all these characters come together as a school and led up to an interesting twist to set up the next book in the series.

Nine fabulous Authors provide interconnected tales of paranormal college students attending The Sun & Moon Academy Book One: Fall semester.

I so very much enjoyed meeting each student, and delving into their social and academic worlds, as challenges were presented to them. Each author found a way to create a world within a world, and provided angst and fear, lust and love and loyalty, and mystery to tie it all together.

Kudos to this tremendously involved group of authors, for allowing us a seemless ride through our hopes and fears and creating a force of writing that made me excited for the next semester!

Kristie Cook, Tish Thawer, Rose Garcia, Belinda Boring, Victoria Flynn, E.J. Fechenda, Amy Richie, Justine Winter, and Victoria Escobar - You are all MARVELOUS! This book is a creation of love and it is obvious! Well Done :)

Forget Hogwarts. I want to go to the Sun & Moon Academy. This is one the best anthologies I read. I got teary eyed when I finished reading it. Not because of anything that happened in the book. Necessarily. Because I was finished, and it is THAT good. I need more!! *re-read coming soon*
The flow of the whole book was effortless. Each story rocked on their own, but together they were magical.
I loved ALL the characters. I couldn't pick a favorite, so don't ask me too. From the student to the teachers, and everyone in between. The authors did an outstanding job writing them.
Havenwood Falls just gets better and better with each new book.

I've not read anything related to Havenwood falls - yet - but I will be!

This instantly engaging anthology of short novellas follows ten different characters inside of one larger story. So much fun and a very well executed concept! Getting to follow around each character for a bit was so enjoyable and despite the different authors, the styles flowed very well and it was a smooth transition from story to story.

I tried to pick a favorite character, and Rhian is right up there, but I found I really liked them all for different reasons and the setting of this school was just tremendous. Just a really fun change of pace read. If you like NA, college age paranormal, this is a great choice!

OMG

I originally got it to read Rosa Garcia’s portion and was pleasantly surprised by the layout of the book and read it all in one sitting. I found some good authors to check out and Rosa did it again with her fulfilling your need for adventure with Infiniti and Joe but also her way of getting her point across without dragging a scene. Which I sooo love! Keep em coming gals!!
