The price of freedom is paid with blood, trust, and the heart. When a queen’s hope rests on the edge of a blade, can a woman with deadly aim and a man with devastating magic unite a kingdom on the brink of civil war?

Conscripted from prison into the Crows, Asgarath’s most elite assassins, Kiera Pendry lives in the shadow of the palace. She’s as much a weapon as the wicked blades she carries, but feels the heavy weight of every life she takes. Trusting the wrong person had turned her into a killer—and she would never make that mistake again.

Now the man who abandoned her is back with a job that could buy her freedom at last. Dorian is a Seider, someone who commands magic, and his service is sworn to Queen Margaret. Dorian needs Kiera’s skills to keep him alive while he retrieves the legendary obsidian blade. To succeed, they must trust each other. And, when long buried feelings return, the cost of Kiera’s freedom may prove higher than she could ever imagine.

Kiera must reconcile with her enemy if they want to find the ancient blade to unite the kingdom. But as powerful forces close in and dangerous alliances are made, the two discover why some secrets should stay in the past.

Raven's Flight introduces a new fantasy world perfect for those who enjoy intrigue, dangerous relic quests, enemies to lovers, and magic. Readers who enjoy the Grishaverse series by Leigh Bardugo, Provost's Dog series by Tamora Pierce, and the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas will want to dive into this new world filled with fantasy, adventure, and romance. Raven's Flight is a new adult fantasy.

DNF 50%. I didn't like the POV from the unintelligent, selfish and incompetent Queen Margeret. It ruined the story for me every time we shifted back to what was happening with her. You supposedly are doing everything to remain queen in order to protect your son yet you consistently do everything in your power to undermine the likelihood of remaining queen. For your own selfish reasons, might I add. You are a queen that nobody wants and half your kingdom thinks you killed your husband and what do you go do? You turn up pregnant with his brother's baby a year after your husband was murdered, I'm sure that's going to quell the rumors that you're a murderer. It was completely irresponsible and incompetent to allow herself to become pregnant during such a tumultuous time, when her child's life is at stake and playing this delicate game of politics is the only way to keep him safe. OMG, SUCH A GOOD MOM WHO PUTS HER CHILD'S NEEDS ABOVE HER OWN, NOT!!!

Now she is being pressured to marry for political reasons but unbeknownst to the council she also needs to marry soon so she can pass off the new baby as her new husband's. One would think that she'd be making this decision with her son in mind, which prospect and moves would best keep him safe, etc. You would think wrong, what SHE'S concerned about is marrying the man she's in love with (he turns her down knowing it isn't a good move politically, something you would think she would be concerned about since making good political moves is how she keeps her child safe). The author tries to write her as this woman who's so concerned about remaining queen so she can protect her 7 year old but all I saw was an incredibly selfish woman who not once put that child's needs above her need to have her happily ever after with Gavin, consequences (harm or death of her child) be damned. The final straw was her deciding that if she can't marry Gavin she won't marry anyone. Your kingdom is on the brink of war, your child is in danger, you are not well liked (further endangering your child), people thing you murdered the king and are suspicious of you, etc. Instead of doing what's best for your CHILD and KINGDOM, you only seem to be concerned about what you want. I HATED HER, every time they switched back to her POV I got mad. Also, they have medicine to end a pregnancy but you couldn't be bothered to take medicine to PREVENT a pregnancy when you decided to start sleeping with your dead husband's brother? Like I said just incompetent and selfish, she does not deserve to be queen.

This book took me back to my love of fantasy.(Elves, magicians, viper-drakes, oh my) I loved the main characters. Keira and Dorian were easy to connect with and each had fascinating stories. Their interactions and dialogue flowed seamlessly. I have a soft spot for assassins, so this book was right up my alley. I am a sucker for enemies to lovers stories, but this added a whole different level. Keira's whole life has been shaped by a decision that Dorian had made, and is pushed down the path of an assassin. Without giving away too much, I will say that Kiera and Dorian face several challenges but when they begin to face them together, it gets so much better. An important theme in this book I think is: things are not always what they seem. And of course as Gran would say: Never trust a seider. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

DNF. Promising start, but too many perspectives made the story drag. So I wound up giving up about halfway through.

I will be honest, I somehow got on Marie’s newsletter mailing list. I haven’t read any of her other books (I will be reading her backlist now!) but the snippet about Raven’s Flight absolutely fascinated me! I love a good epic fantasy but they can be hard to find. World-building and having engaging characters that’s reader feels invested in can be challenging. I love strong female characters and within the first few pages about Keira I was hooked. Marie does an excellent job with her world building and has characters that I became invested in and finished wanting more.
Keira was living on the streets trying to feed herself and her Gran. She gets caught stealing and it changes her life forever as she is given the choice to join the Crows and potentially earn her freedom someday or go to the mines for hard labor and never be free again. She joins the Crows and becomes an elite assassin and spy. Her latest mission? To guard the Seider who was the reason she was caught in the first place.
Dorian is a Master Seider and controls more magic than most Seiders can imagine. His ArchLord charged him with going to find a mythical blade that will help prevent civil war and unite the kingdom behind their widowed Queen and her young son. He is more honorable than Keira had anticipated after their history but he doesn’t remember her.
There were honestly some twists and turns I wasn’t expecting that added to the story. I loved Keira and Dorian and their story.
I wouldn’t say there’s a cliff hanger but I definitely have some questions about the ending and absolutely cannot wait for the next book in this series.
I haven’t enjoyed the first book in a fantasy series this much in a long time!

New book Boyfriend, check! Book girlfriend, possibly!!

I was invested in this book from the first chapter! I adore this author and all her works, so when I saw she had a new fantasy adventure, I was all in.

Kiera, is a beautifully developed character, who harbors many secrets, but has a true heart. I love the relationship she has with her only relative and how she tends to them. (I will say, I feel like this character is keeping their own secrets... hmmm).

Dorian, a man with his own past and questions, but intriguing just the same! Powerful and a little more proper than I thought I would like, he grows on you.

This pair, is amazing!! You follow them through one adventure and another while on their way to complete a mission. You watch as their secrets slowly come to light and you are left in an emotional puddle. Close to the end of the book, I realized there was nothing that would stop this pair, and at the end the author dropped something that made me second guess everything I felt was HEA.

I CAN NOT wait for the second book. I highly recommend this!

I almost didn't accept this ARC because I was already reading two of them and they weren't going to be 5 stars and I wanted to get to some other books I was more hype for (doesn't help that I'm a mood reader)...and if I hadn't it would've been a huge mistake on my part. HUGE. This book was 100 percent right up my alley. I loved the characters and the world building. There's magic and court dealings and intrigue galore.

Keira was kick ass from page one and I'm all for a bad ass female assassin. I'm here for it all day. Dorian is a very powerful master seider who doesn't rememer Keira from many years before...but she remembers him. I'm even interested in the side characters because there's so much story going on behind those scenes.

The ONLY reason I didn't finish this quicker is because I spent the past two nights with a migraine so reading was a no go. If not this would have been done days ago. I've never read any other Marie Robinson book but I'm ready to dive in to whatever else she has.

This book is magic. I went into it thinking it was going to be a full fledged fantasy with out of this world adventure and a creative new world. And while it did have all of that, it was very much a story about the characters, not over the top but very much based on such rich and amazing people.

Kiera is a very strong lead character who had layers and layers of depth and thought out complex issues. I loved every scene she was in, her thoughts, feeling and actions. Such an amazing lady. Oh, and she is an assassin, how awesome is that?! She totally nade this stoy that much more wonderful. I wll want more from her soon.

The story line is based in a world that I can imagine us not far off from ours. It has a slightly different structure and there is magic. This is a very fast paced story that pulls the reader in and keeps you guessing and gasping. I was in awe of certain actions and moments within the story. There is also romance and intrigue. I'm telling you this was an amazing read! I didn't want to leave the characters or the story, lol. Highly recommended, 4.5 stars.

Wow, I loved the world that Marie Robinson wrote about. The magic that can live within a human body. As you read along you can get a sense of the hierarchy, society and sense of medieval era. I love the characters especially Kiera. Woah I think she is now my all time favorite character. I just like how she is a trained assassin and can handle herself. It was also good to see how much she has grown into the person that she is. Then there is Dorian, at first I was not sure how I felt because he seemed to think that he could handle himself against anything and tried to brush Kiera off. However, it is funny how fate/karma works. So to see them work together was awesome. There seemed to be a lot going on but in retrospect it wasn't. Everything that happened at the same time so you see different views of what is going on. Overall this is a great start of a new series.

This book was an equal balance between a slow romance and an interesting plot with good world building and characters.

I liked the beginning - the story of a down on her luck girl forced to become an assassin as punishment for a crime she committed. The two characters, the assassin and the mage, connected nicely. The romance wasn't rushed, and they took their time getting to know each other. The secondary plot and characters were interesting as well.

I was a bit confused over some plot points towards the end. The book could use a very thorough editing to clean out small grammatical errors and typos, but they were only minor irritants and weren't too distracting.

Overall, there were some great ideas, characters, and plot points in this book. It wasn't a bad reading experience, but it does have the potential to be a lot better with further editing.

Where should I start? Well, first of all I think this is the best work of Brianna to this day. The book feels more cohesive and complex than all the others put together (not that there is anything wrong with the others) I love the idea of this groups of train assassins and trained mages who work constantly with and again each other. This book has everything, a beautiful love story that is slow burn, plenty of action, court intrigues, a second love story developing and some things that have made me very curious like, what is grandma´s story? Hmmmm, I see something well hidden there that I cant wait to unearth.... This is a series that I will need to buy in paperback because I will re read them a bunch of times... Hope book two is here soon!!!

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the author to review. However all the thoughts are my own.

A book full of assassins, building loves, political intrigue, and new magic systems. I received an ARC of this book and while I wasn’t surprised it held my interest let me put it this way. I received an e-book ARC that I downloaded to my phone. I’m terrible at reading e-books on my phone. I always end up distracted by notifications and forgetting my book. But this book? Learning about the world of Keira and Dorian? Seeing the magic system and the plots and plans at play? Oh this book kept me coming back and even ignoring notifications. Never trust a seider- maybe. Trust me though, this book is worth the read.

I received this book free as an ARC reader for review.

This is an interesting look at the life of a young woman who never really got to make the choice. She didn’t choose to be poor. She didn’t choose to be starving. She chose work and it was offered, even knowing that work was dangerous and illegal, if only to put food in the bellies of her self and her grandmother. When she was abandoned by those she was working for, she chose service to the crows instead of imprisonment or death. After that, the choices are out of her hands. She fought survive, she learned to survive, she trained to survive. Then her entire world fell apart when a little magic, a little mystery, and a lot of Mayham fell into her lap.

Wow, this book packs a punch! An amazing story of a girl who faces the choice between imprisonment or becoming an assassin, due to a certain young man letting her down. Many years later, now a masterful assassin and a powerful mage type magic user, fate has thrown them back together. Full of political intrigue and choices between the crown and the heart, literally in some cases! Fans of Sarah J Maas would love this as it definitely brings to mind a certain beloved assassin. I really loved the intriguing world that Robinson has built. This book is a fast paced read with a satisfying story arc, it leaves it open but definitely no cliffhanger (yay)

I received a free copy for an honest review. I love how it started because it gave me Thorn of Glass vibes which I absolutely loved! Like her other books you have magic, the Fea, action and a bit of romance. There were characters that I loved and couldn’t stop reading about. There were also times that I found myself putting the book down many times during a single chapter. I am not sure if it was just me or maybe the chapter got too wordy. I did like the book a lot but it wasn’t my favorite from her so maybe I was comparing it to her other work. I would still recommend this book.

I absolute love the world and characters which Marie Robinson has created with Raven’s Flight.

Keira is a badass and strong MC, who’s role in the story is supported by Dorian on their adventure to save the kingdom. Their journey isn’t an easy one, but the story that follows is extremely entertaining and addictive.

I also love how the POV of the chapters flows between Keira, Dorian and also Queen Margaret as she fights her own battles.

I highly recommend starting this new series The Raven and Crown, and can’t wait to read the second book.

An epic adventure

This book has such amazing detail that I could picture the creatures and towns. Kiera and Dorian embark on a journey to retrieve a magical sword said to unite people. But not everything is as it seems and Keira is keeping a secret from Dorian. The two find out there is more to them that is very rare. Theres magic and fighting and betrayals at every turn. Oh and Elves 😆 this was an epic fantasy adventure!

It was fascinating watching the characters develop. From the brief description I had before completing the book, it didn’t go as I thought it would... it was so much more. It’s a cross between Throne of glass and the Demon Prince for me. Twist and turns every chapter. Captivating. I can’t wait for book 2. I will definitely be checking out other titles from this author.

Really great, this book is like nothing I've ever read before. The language is kind of strange, a bit old worldy king arthur/merliny but that's part of its charm. the story itself is rich and detailed and really had me yelling aloud at my kindle the whole way through. I can't wait to see what happens in this world next.

Excellent

Excellent story intrigue, politics, romance and many great characters that you can feel. I look forward to the sequels.

The only things are with so many rich and diverse characters some don’t get enough screen time, but Kiera is still the best and I want to know everything about her. Her past has many interesting plot hooks and her future etc...

I really like the story of Kiera and Dorian and that of Queen Margaret and Gavin. It's truly, truly a fun story. I'm giving this three stars, though, because at times, I felt bogged down in this book with useless information - or, the information was boringly presented. I love Marie's storyline, though, and I will definitely read the rest of this series.

A Taste to whet the appetite.

The title gives the impression of a journey with many an adventure on the way only to slam face first into a closed door. Ouch. Really though, I'll have to rub my nose and go chase down the rest of that adventure.

This book had a really interesting initial concept, but the constant jumping between narratives made it hard to become attached to the characters and really engage with the plot or the relationships.

This book was sent to me from the publisher.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Kiera is everything you want in a bad ass leading lady. She's ruthless and human. She's fearsome and still raw enough to crave love. Dorian grows on you as well because he is so honorable and just. You want them to win. You root for them. This story is fast paced and exciting and though I wasn't feeling Queen Margaret's parts at the beginning (mostly because I was voracious for more Kiera and Dorian) I quickly became enraptured in her majesty as well.

The battles and the fight are beautifully written and never pull from the excitement of the book like fantasy is apt to do. I really look forward to more of this world.

Further proof that the bodyguard trope can get me to read just about anything. The Queen and Commander’s six chapters of mutual pining were the only reason I finished this book. Assassin Kiera and seider (aka wizard) Dorian have cookie-cutter personalities, nothing about them stuck with me. Also, the writing style is very on-the-nose, and I still have literally no idea why they want the thing they went on a quest for in the first place. It will maybe save the kingdom? I think?

Epic!

Blew me away!
Loved this adventure of magic and intrigue. Great twists and turns you’ll never see coming.
Great characters and I love how the story doesn’t just focus on one character but multiple with various points of view.
Can’t wait to see where this goes!
