Another gripping addition to "The Dragon's Children" series! as you can see from my review of the first book, I am a huge fan of this series. It is a perfect addition to any child's library, as well as an enjoyable read for adults who haven't forgotten their love of magic and adventure.
Starting with what VanDerWerken does well...
Her world-building is unparalleled with many children's books out there. I didn't think I needed a sassy-sentient sword, but dang... turns out I did. This book expands beautifully on the world from the first book and keeps adding elements that keep me intrigued.
In addition, the plot and characters are a joy to follow, and although she keeps introducing characters throughout the novel, I felt connected to every single one of them.
Now on to why we lost a star...
While I am a huge fan of this book, it lost a star (as opposed to the first book) for various spelling errors and punctuation errors I encountered throughout the novel. In addition to these minor mistakes, I got really attached to Lord Thomas in the first book, so his few appearances made me sad that I didn't get to continue along with his character. This is probably more of personal preference, but it did make a difference for being able to rate this novel quite as high as the previous book.
I cannot wait to see what VanDerWerken does as she continues this amazing series. She is undoubtedly a talented and imaginative author with some amazing stories to tell!
