I read approximately a book a day and am very fond of Mail Order Bride stories but they must have some depth to them. For me this book lacked that element. There were story lines left hanging and I found the book to be draggy. It seemed to not have much of a real story behind it.

Elizabeth and Edmund

Elizabeth has just lost her parents and the executor has just told her that they didn't leave her with anything but debts and the house she's living in. She decides she has to do something but the only thing she can think to do is go to the church so she is closer to her parents. As she is leaving to meet her friend for tea she notices a paper on the last pew opened up to the Matrimonial news and deems it a sign. She begins her correspondence with Edmund in San Francisco, California and is packing for her trip the next week when there is a banging on the door. Since it's not the hour for visitors she approaches the door cautiously. When she sees who it is she opens the door. There stands her Uncle and instead of being happy to see her, he tells her her father owed him money and he was there to collect. She explains she has no money and he tells her he will be back in a week to collect and warns her not to leave town! She is so frightened that she only takes her bible and her mother's locket and leaves that night hopeing Edmund won't be upset with her early arrival. Her Uncle scares her! Will Edmund be happy to see her early? What about her Uncle, will he really find her to make her pay? What of the other five women who she rides the stage with? Will she be happy in California? Only one way to find out, read this great story by Cheyanne West.

Elizabeth and Edmund

I would have given this five stars, as I loved the romance in this story, but I had a few problems with it.

It never was really clarified as to where Elizabeth lived, but I'm assuming England, as it sounded like she sailed to America...but then again, I'm not clear on that. If she did come from somewhere in Europe, and only had been corresponding to Edmund for about six weeks...how did she arrive in America the day after her uncle came to her parents house to threaten her? And how did she and Edmund receive their letters so quickly if they had to cross the country as well as the Atlantic? Then...once she got here, she rode a stagecoach all the way across the country?? How is that possible?

I'm sorry to the author, as I did enjoy the story, but all those questions and discrepancies just bothered me.

Six

This was a very well written book by Cheyenne West and I really enjoyed reading it. Parents death, nothing, an unscrupulous uncle, mail order bride, writing, going to Nevada in a coach, five other mail order bride's, becoming good friends, being blackmailed, meeting their intended, getting to know each other, injured, getting married, upsetting news, draged away with a gun, being found and rescued. Will they get married and live happy ever after? I would recommend this book to everyone. Buy the book and enjoy.

Good

Liked the characters and could have enjoyed reading it more but it needs some editing. Elizabeth was immature and impulsive. Edmund was strong and handsome. Usual mail order story.

A Home for Elizabeth

Elizabeth thought she had a home until death brought debt collectors to her door. She should not be responsible to repay undocumented debts should she?

A nice short read but would have been a wonderful novel had the story been expanded. Would especially like to know what happened to wife & son of H.

A Home for Elizabeth

Elizabeth’s parents die leaving her with a mountain of debt. She writes to Edmund who lives in California.
She travels after her uncle comes to collect on the debt owed by her father. She arrives and they postponed the wedding due to a bully in town trying to extort money from the towns people.

She is kidnapped and he goes to save her.
You don’t know about what happens to the uncle or the town bully.

An Interesting Story

I enjoyed the story. It held my interest throughout until the ending it was some plots left hanging. What happened after the rescue? What happened to the Uncle and his claim?
