Charlie Rhodes #6

The Incubus Impasse

Rate this book
Charlie Rhodes is at a crossroads in her life. Her big secret is out – at least with the most important person in her life Jack Hanson – and now they have to deal with a whole new reality.

Things are going relatively well when the Legacy Foundation is sent on a mission to Charleston. It seems women are dying under strange circumstances: open windows, no immediate sign of violence, locked doors. The leader of their group is convinced it’s an incubus, and even though he was the chief naysayer before, Jack has no idea what to believe given the reality of his magical girlfriend.

It’s a new world and Charlie is excited to embrace it. Jack wants to keep her close while exploring her abilities. They make a fearsome twosome… although there’s danger at every turn.

It seems Charlie resembles the dead women, and even though local police thought they had nothing in common … it seems they actually did. They were bucking for a reality television show and it appears someone in that business may be a murderer.

Charleston is a new environment and Charlie and Jack are embracing a brand new world. Things are going to be fine… as long as they live to tell the tale.

A murderer is stalking Charleston, death is close, and only Charlie can save the day. She’s going to need those closest to her to do it. Luckily, they’re up for the challenge.

When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail.
Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.

New Orleans had been a crossroads for Charlie Rhodes. Her boyfriend Jack Hanson does know her big secret now and this knowledge might change their dynamic as a couple.
When the Legacy Foundation is sent on a mission to Charleston, they have to find out who kills women without leaving any signs of violence. Chris of course is convinced it’s an incubus. But is it really?
Another cameo of Harley and Charlie’s long lost brother appears out of nowhere. This is a re-read for me and I found out that I do not like the books so much the second time. Actually it is probably because the relationship between Charlie and Jack can be quite boring and repetitive.

The heroine is too dumb

Tired of hearing her moan about her birth family not wanting her and not enough about how lucky she was with her adoptive parents. Also she acts like she understands nothing about herself and her power still. It was interesting in the first few books. But getting boring: the trouble with authors who want to do tons of short stories and keep it going forever. Too bad the heroine has had plenty of chances to find out and control her abilities from other paranormal beings. Lee's other books have been much more fun and interesting.

The entire time while reading this book I was asking myself, “Why?” After my feelings of the previous book, it was a total mistake to start this one. In fact, 90% of the book had my eyes rolling so far back in my head, I almost had to go to Urgent Care.

But the mysteries are always pretty good...

And then, that dang reveal at the end!!!

Do I really have to suffer through this much drivel again just to see what happens next?!

Absolutely loved it! Charlie Rhodes is in another mystery with the group! They are investigating suspicious deaths of 8 women and these women seemed to die in thier sleep with the window open! Once they get to Charleston they have a whole different kind of mystery on thier hands! Is it a serial killer or something more sinister??
I loved this installment and cant wait until the next one is released in a couple of months! Amanda M Lee has to be one of the best authors I've ever read!!

Sixth book in this cozy romantic mystery series about a telekinetic orphan who's hiding in plain sight in a foundation that investigates the paranormal. Her boyfriend is in the same group. This one is about a case involving an incubus, but with a twist at the end that is a bit of a cliff-hanger for the next book. I didn't see the villain coming, so I thought the story was well constructed.

This was an excellent installment in the Charlie Rhodes paranormal cozy mystery series! A lot of personal development on the team--including a pretty amazing twist at the end!--and a great mystery to solve. I loved the local flavor in this book, too. It's one of the great parts of this particular series as it follows a nationally-travelling team.

Still having fun. Getting a little bored with Jack and Charlie having the same conversations over and over. They are like two 14 year olds in major crush phase. Then again, it is cozy and this is a cozy mystery.
Millie seems to be less important and Charlie doesn’t seem to understand that girl code spans generations. I need more Millie unless the stick will be removed from Jack’s......
I was interested that more focus wasn’t put on the other hunter they discovered in the end.

You lost me with this one I fear

This installment definitely emphasized that Charlie’s “not like other girls” and the romance between her and Jack tipped over from cute to cringey very quickly.

There also seems to be an issue with remembering what was said because there were a few inconsistencies in backstory from previous books and too many paragraphs restating info that was either explained in a previous installment or even earlier in the book… it felt like trying to fill in a word count

A telekinetic, an incubus, a crossroads demon, and a reformed non-believer enter a bar ...

I am completely head over heels for this series and each installment keeps getting better. Charlie Rhodes is truly coming into her own. Its been fun to watch her grow into her abilities and gain confidence. Watching the relationship with Jack is also so wholesome. I love how they accept and support each other. They are still in the early stages and getting their footing around each. I do miss some of the banter we had from previous books before they admitted their feelings but they longer they are together it is slowly coming back.

The addition of Harley the crossroads demon added a fun new element. Her interactions with Jack and Charlie are a breath of fresh air. Their exchanges always have me giggling out loud while reading. I do hope the next book doesn't allude to them completing the deal they struck but that we get to see the whole ordeal.

I could continue to rave about this book but it would be better if you just pick up the book and let it unfold for you! Cheers and Happy Reading!

I realized that I was craving a Charlie Rhodes fix, and after checking around, I saw that I had somehow missed this book when Audible released it last November 0_o...
This time Charlie Rhodes and the Legacy team, find themselves investigating not only a serial killer, but possibly an Incubus at that!
If you've been following Charlie Rhodes, a paranormal herself, you'll know that she's joined up with the Legacy team, which is a group of Cryptid hunters. For her it's like hiding in plain sight! And, it's also her way of protecting the secret world of Cryptids! Luckily for her the Legacy Foundation has deep pockets, and even without finding the proof that is often times right under their very noses, their boss has a never ending exuberance for the next case!
This paranormal cozy mystery is packed with so much fun and sassy lines, that I giggled throughout the book, and I found myself hard-pressed to remember that the killer was a monster that needed to be ended! Oh the surprises, and oh, the fun! Well, just get the book... and Jennifer Jill Araya's performance? Stellar!!!

Amanda M Lee is a new all time favorite author. She has a way of drawing you into a book and getting your feeling involved. I can't wait to read the next one in this series. I love Charlie Rhodes and all of the other characters. I can't wait to read more of this series and how she gets other characters from other series into the mix. Can't wait to see where Charlie goes next.I have never laughed and cried reading a book as I have reading hers books. The only other Authors that have manged to do that are Nora Roberts, JD Robb, Catherine Coulter, and Richard H. Stephens. Would love to find more that can do that.

Well, there was less snark than usual (thank goodness) and plenty of smaltzy lovey-dovey comments. Laura was as questionably nasty as ever. I think there has been some actual character development with Charlie and with Jack - in the overall relationship too. This was a pretty good mystery, and it wasn't until the very end that the killer was unveiled. I was actually a little surprised. The ending with a new character was a surprise too. A few hints had been laid out, but not expected in this manner. I had begun to question if Charlie and Sunny (another series) were going to overlap in anyway - their history is very similar.

This is a really strange story. There's an incubus that apparently has been killed women by taking their sexual energy. Eight have died in a three-week period and it's up to the group to find this incubus and neutralize it.

Complicating things are ghosts that are hovering above the water but are incapable of interacting with anyone. There's also the demon Harley who shows up helps Charlie figure out what to do. So the task is find the incubus and destroy it, hopefully freezing the female ghosts in the process.

It's another good book in the series with a story that's stranger than normal.

Book 6

Young women are dead and no one knows why. Hanna's on it! What did they have in common, MORE than you first think and there are some disturbing ghosts out in the water. Lauren is being the dreadfully snarky bitch she always is,, will she get her way with plan?
Millie is Aces!
I have a question though, I know she's young, but she certainly blushes a great deal, I'm concerned...

Good story

This one got off to a bit of a slow start for me, and by slow start I mean I didn't really get sucked into the storyline until about halfway through. After that it really picked up and ended on a high note. I also really enjoyed Jack and Charlie's developing relationship. I like it that they've gotten past the should we shouldn't we stage of things and seem to be solidly into the how are we going to make this work for us stage. I can't wait to read more.

Addictive reading

The only reason I don't give five stars is because some things are redundant. Such as, Charlie explaining her adoption. After finishing the book I do see the relevance in this one. However, it was almost verbatim to a previous explanation. I am of the mind set that if the reader is lost on recurring events or relationships they should read the whole series. This aside, I love everything Amanda M. Lee puts out and am always wanting more!

Well, I didn’t see that coming.

We’re off to Charleston, and Laura is still being a bitter pill. Even though Charlie and Jack are trying not to let her get to them, the woman just can’t seem to handle loosing out to Charlie on either the personal, or professional, front. Instead, while everyone is hunting for the incubus, Laura is up to no good as she goes behind Chris’s back, with potential devastating consequences for Charlie.

Mixed feelings

I want more Millie! We barely get ant Millie anymore and when we do, she's whiny. I miss her and Charlie's dynamic. I can't believe Laura is still around. The ending was weird. I don't know how I feel about that little cliffhanger.

Everything else was great. It's cool that we're actually getting paranormal criminals rather than just weird circumstances with human criminals.

Incubus in Charleston

Advances the mystery of who Charlie is in an exciting way. Laura still feels like an obnoxious plot tool, but I’m hoping for some redeeming characteristics soon. I love that it is set in Charleston and per usual plays on the local ambience, cuisine, and inherent mystery of the city. The pacing was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Totally unexpected. Fascinating.

Parts of this book were so predictable that I almost stopped reading. Almost. I wish there had been more character development or growth but all the same, it was a good story. I was not expecting the ending...with the new team member. I am definitely interested in seeing how the author develops it from here.

fun, easy rea. cozy mystery with a paranormal twist.
Think that the ages of Charlie and Jack should have a bigger gap which would allow Jack to have done all the things he says he has done...but if I get past that - and the inner monologue of Charlie who keeps thinking "Jack is going to get angry with her" - its a very readable series.

Fun read not my favorite

I enjoyed this book in the series but was let down by the final fight sene that had been building. You really didn't see many of Charlie's powers in this one. I felt like 50% of this one was talking about their relationship instead of the plot. Still a fun read just hoping for a little more badassery.

What an ending!

This was an entertaining read, but the ending was just amazing. That being said, I get so annoyed by all of the inconsistencies in these books. Last book, Jack didn’t like oysters; this book he does. Last book, Charlie grew up in Michigan; this book in Minnesota. Make an outline if you can’t keep your own characters straight! Rant over.

Yumm

This just keeps getting better and better.
I'm really happy about how it ended, even though it was on a cliffhanger.
I'm off to the next book. So far, I'm reading each book in a day and a half. So I'm getting through them pretty quickly. I just can't seem to put them down.
Chef's Kiss to Amanda M. Lee! 👏👏👌😘

Hate cliffhangers but basic story is good

Story is good, however if you don't like cliffhangers wait till the next story is done. I love that they are fond of trying different types of food, I love taco and had to have shrimp for dinner. Good story and I do enjoy the humor.

Outstanding

This book not only was a continuing saga but it showed you did need all the information to make a good call! The incubus sure did show me that determinations without knowing all the twists and turns gives you an incorrect answer. Look forward to the next story.

Incubus Impasse

Really enjoyed the book. I believe that Laura should be fired. You seem to skip on over that part. Because in the real world. They would have fired her or kicked her behind. But good story line.
