Welcome to Hathaway House. Rehab Center. Safe Haven. Second chance at life and love.
Keith came to Hathaway House at his sister’s insistence. For he has already given up on regaining the future she keeps telling him that he can find here or, for that matter, any other future worth having. And, besides, don’t they know he’s too weak for the trip and for the treatment and for any of the plans the team has for him? Don’t they know he’s broken beyond repair, and nothing they can do will fix him?
But apparently they don’t because no one listens to him. Not the doctors. Not his sister. And definitely not the tiny woman who keeps delivering his coffee at 5:00 a.m.
Ilse, head chef for Hathaway House, rarely ventures out of the kitchen she manages. It’s easier to deal with the groceries and the staff than it is to see the pain and suffering of those she feeds. But something about Keith and his frailty calls to her. She can’t help but go out of her way to ensure he has everything he needs. Even though she knows she cannot keep their relationship on a professional level, once started.
Even if not in her best interests to do so. Because, in this case, surely Keith’s best interests matter, so much more than her own.

After enduring a career ending injury Keith is wounded not only physically but emotionally. He is starting to lose hope that he will heal any further and is conflicted about kind of future he will face. Even though he has his sister to lean on he is feeling very alone.
Ilse’s caring and giving nature is a perfect match for her job as a chef at the House. What starts out as compassion for Keith, leads to friendship which then evolves into love as she not only helps him heal but gives him hope for the future as well.
The characters are compelling, and the story is sure to touch your heart.
Keith arrives at Hathaway because his sister Robin works there. He's broken and battered. He suffers from depression to boot. Isle is the chef and she feels an instant connection with him. As time goes the pair form a bond and Keith comes to terms with his past and can finally see a future. It's a lovely book about healing, growth and love. I volunteered to read this book via Booksprout.
Keith came to Hathaway House at his sister Robin’s insistence as she worked there and knew what they could do to help him Keith thinks it is a waste of time as he has already given up and is really only going there to keep her happy - especially as the trip there has left him weak and particularly bad-tempered. His opinion is that he’s broken beyond repair, and nothing they can do will fix him. However, no one there agrees with him whether that be the doctors, the therapist, his sister and certainly no the tiny woman who keeps delivering him his coffee at 5 am each morning. Ilse is the head chef at Hathaway House and rarely goes anywhere outside of the kitchen where she is comfortable. dealing with groceries that the rest of the kitchen staff than dealing with all of the pain and suffering being experienced by all the people she feeds. However, something about Keith and his family calls to her and she can't help but go out of her way in order to make sure that he has everything that he needs although she then starts to realise that she cannot keep that relationship on a professional level once she has started to go down that path. Because at the end of it all, Keith's best interests are more important than her own.
This was a sweet story that charted Keith's progress as he battled his inner demons and found a way to find himself believing in a future - something he never dreamed was possible for him. I enjoyed the steps that they both took in sorting out their thoughts and feelings even if at the end of the story I found the final conclusion a bit rushed considering the time it took to reach those conclusions. Well written and easy to read and understand, you won't be able to put this book down as you get drawn into the story.

Keith's sister Robin works at the Veterinarian Clinic at Hathaway House. She's seen the almost miraculous progress people make, and that includes her fiancé Iain. She is determined that Keith come to Hathaway House and he gives in. He doesn't believe there is anything more for him, there's been too many surgeries, too many backslides. He isn't full of hope like his sister when he arrives at Hathaway House.
One of the first people he meets on that first day is Ilse. Ilse is a Chef and in charge of the kitchen at Hathaway House, quite the challenge to feed all the patients and staff. Ilse is a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen.
Keith is surprised that Ilse would even consider delivering food to him on this first day. Although it's Dennis who delivers it, Ilse creates a dinner for him that he finds he can eat.
Ilse noticed on her arrival in the early morning hours that Keith's light was on. She begins visiting him in those early morning hours, sometimes bringing him coffee. She doesn't quite understand her attraction to him but she can't seem to stay away.
Keith has Shane for his PT, and if you're reading this series you already know he's a stern taskmaster. Keith is making progress he doesn't realize, but it's also a mental process and he has some hurdles there.
Ilse faces some issues in her kitchen along with the realization she's falling for Keith and wants the opportunity to see if it can become something lasting.
I love how the animals come into play here, they too are an important part of the healing process. Iain also comes for a visit to meet his future brother-in-law, but also to give encouragement.
I loved reading this journey to healing and romance and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
I love this series. This is Keith and Ilse's story. Keith really doesn't see a reason to be at Hathaway House because he thinks he is as good as he is going to get but if you have read Ms. Meyer's series before then you know he can get better here at Hathaway House. His sister Robin works in the vet clinic and she insisted that he come here. This is a remarkable place for healing the body, mind, heart and soul, not to mention the one's spirit.
We meet the heroine Ilse in this story and she is the the main chief here. She works with Dennis who has appeared in many of the stories but we really didn't know a whole lot about his co-workers. I am so glad that Ms. Mayer brought Ilse into the picture.
This is a magical place and one in which I can envision in my head thanks to Ms. Mayer descriptive writing. The place is magical and I can only hope that there is a real place out there similar to this one. I enjoy these books because the characters get to know each other with conversation and there is not sex involved. I think that's important to the believability of these stories. There is friendship and real conversations going on here as it should be because these men are not ready for sex yet. The relationship evolve through communication and just simply being with the other person. I love that about this series. Don't get me wrong, I love a good sex scene but they don't have a place here and that to me keeps this series real, that and the struggles that relationships have.
I look forward to the next story and hope that one day Dennis will get his story too because he is an amazing character who deserves to find his own happily ever after.
Keith's sister works at Hathaway House and has seen the miracles happening. She wants the best for her brother but he has done all he can. This is it. Nothing is going to get any better. Against his better judgement, he fills out the application for Hathaway and expects nothing. He is so tired of all the pain the pushing and prodding. At least now she cannot say he didn't try. Ilse sees Keith arriving and despite herself is intrigued. She doesn't know why but she just keeps stopping by to see how he is doing. bring coffee when she gets the kitchen ready for everyone. Why is she so drawn to him. She has seen so many patients come and go, most so much better than when they arrived. Keith sister is her best friend and maybe that has something to do with it, but there is something there. Maybe? No one is more surprised than Keith at his progress. To him it is miraculous. Something he never expected and he wants to accomplish more and be the best he can be. These books can be read alone or each one after the other. Hathway house books are a feel good book but shows what can be accomplished if a person wants to do and be better. They touch sensitive topics and makes you feel and want whatever is that can be accomplished. To not give up. To keep trying.

Keith is at Hathaway House at the urging of his sister, Robin, whose story with Iain is detailed in Book 9 of the Hathaway House series. Another wounded warrior coming from a VA hospital where he’s been conditioned to believe that he’s progressed as much as he can. When chef Ilse takes an interest in trying to turn his frown upside down through early-morning coffee and wonderful food, Keith realizes that there is a lot more to Hathaway House than he could ever have believed. Coming from an environment where other patients were at the same level as he, and then hearing about the large number of men who’ve regained their normalcy there, he is still resistant because he didn’t see them when they arrived. Photos of his own progress and a visit from Iain with his then-and-now pictures give Keith the proof he needs to hope and to dream of the life ahead of him…a life that he would love to share with Ilse. A great story, and a look into the as-yet-unidentified group of people in the kitchen. Lots of new friends and ideas for great food. Maybe someday a Hathaway House recipe book?

Healing from a combat injury may need the magic of Hathaway House.
Like some of his brothers in arms who were wounded on the battlefield, Keith is brought to a country health facility, where beauty and compassion combine to create a place where healing works on both the insides and the outsides of injured people and animals alike. Where the staff care about every patient and are dedicated to their future.
As the House Chef, Ilse loves to prepare wonderful meals to appeal to even the most queasy of stomachs with the knowledge that she is contributing to the health of men and women who have sacrificed so much through their military service. Though she has previously watched from behind the buffet line, she has actually found herself bringing early morning coffee to a wounded SEAL and has found herself looking forward to their quiet moments together.
As with each of the Hathaway House books, Keith's story will wrap around you and not let go. Unlike the others, this book acts more like a silent heart monitor as it tells a sweet but strong love story from beginning to end. Not just about people in love, but about love of self, love for life, love for tomorrows. Sigh Alert!

I love this series. Every single book in the series has tugged at my heart due to the story line. With prior members of the military as the main characters the story in this book is another that will keep you turning the pages hoping for a happy ending. This book takes Keith through rehabilitation of more than the body, but also the mind and soul. He has been injured in the military and has been through so many surgeries and he is still not back to being the person he wants to be. Due to his sister, he ends up at Hathaway House which is an awesome rehabilitation location for those who are lucky enough to get into it. The workers and the atmosphere help to turn the tough cases around and get these injured soldiers back to where they can have a productive happy life. If only there were a Hathaway House in our world I bet we wouldn't have so many soldiers who end up on the street or committing suicide. We could only wish for something as wonderful! This book kept me engrossed and I could not wait to see how it ended. I loved this book, as I loved each one prior to this one, and look forward to the next one in the series!

This is the 11th book in the wonderful Hathaway House series. Keith Carruthers had reached rock bottom, he was an ex navy SEAL who had received life altering injuries after an encounter with an IED, he could see no way forward. Encouraged by his sister Robin, a veterinary assistant at Hathaway House, Keith made the arduous journey there with little expectation. Hathaway House is a rehab centre for for badly injured military personnel, it has a reputation for holistic healing and also romance. Chef Ilse saw Keith's light on as she arrived at work at 5am one morning and offered to make him a coffee, thus started the daily early morning coffee and chats and slowly love blossoms. With the encouragement of Dani, the owner, Ilse, Robin and all the wonderful team, Keith's long journey to fitness begins. This is a lovely gentle story as are all the books in this series, Dale Mayer brilliantly highlights the psychological as well as the physical impact these life changing injuries have on these previously ultra fit men. Yet another great read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I am marking this as 4 stars but I really felt it would be a 3.5. I really didn't feel that connection between the characters. I mean they would spend 10 minutes together some days and that was enough for a relationship? While it didn't seem believable, it was a nice break to the day.
This is another addition to the heartwarming series. Hathaway House is where men and women go to rehabilitate from their horrific injuries (especially the military for this series.)
Keith has gone through 30 surgeries to get him to a place where he can finally go to Hathaway House. While his physical injuries are severe, he at least has all his limbs, his mental health is really suffering though. All this stems from when his father kicked him out of the house at 16.
Ilse is the head chef at Hathaway House. She has never gotten involved with the patients before. She accidentally comes across as Keith early in the morning. She starts to bring him coffee.
This book is written in a dual POV format. This is also a clean romance.

Hathaway House is the ideal rehab center. It is a wonderful facility that caters to seriously injured veterans. The center obtains up-to-date machines and hires the best professionals to work and live in this house. The goal is to help the residents get through pain and depression so they can move onto recovery.
Keith is one of those patients. He has given up, and expects to spend his life in pain and in a wheelchair. Fortunately, his sister arranges for him to move in. Not only does she work at the home, but she is also engaged to a man who once lived in the home. He has since become a hard-working man who lives a normal life.
Ilse is the head chef at Hathaway House. She finds herself drawn to Keith and continues to regularly visit him. She and Keith have a romance that is based on honesty, respect and an ability to see beyond looks.
This book is a realistic look at the pain and suffering that many of our veterans must endure. Fortunately, it has a happy ending.
I find it astonishing this series is about a unique rehab center yet each story is so individual making it different from the rest. This time Keith finds himself agreeing to try this center where his sister works and she has convinced him to see for himself how much good can be done there. He has some issues from his past and from the incident which caused his injuries as well as a long road ahead to recover to his fullest possible potential. The mental and physical challenges are daunting but are handled in a truly convincing way. Some romance, some angst, some honor, a lot of bravery all in a setting that lends hope to these men who have given so much. Yes, I really love it, it still tugs on my heart but it makes me feel good as well. The epilogue hints at a new story about Lance who had a dream about music and it looks like he will apply to Hathaway House due to Iain's encouragement. Can't wait to see what that is all about!
(4.5) Can be read and shared with your teen ager if you desire. Well done, pulls on the heartstrings and shares some of what our wounded heroes go through. I really enjoy this series. Keith was so relatable, even if you weren't in the service, or weren't wounded. Dale tells the story so well you empathize and nod, going yup. We meet Ilse and I like her self honesty, her questions and thoughts. I have to admit I thought Dennis ran it, but we meet some more people who work in prep, cooking, etc which bolds well for this series. I have to admit I want Dennis to find his happy every after, especially after reading this one. I am excited to see what else Dale comes up with in this awesome Hathaway House series and I really, really, really wish we had this for our vets. So needed and so deserved. Thank you for the arc Dale Mayer and Booksprout. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
Keith by Dale Mayer Hathaway House Series Book Eleven Keith Carruthers is at Hathaway House, thanks to his sister, Robin. She works downstairs as a vet tech. He's cranky, depressed, and doesn't want to be there. He's given up.
Ilse is the chef and mostly hides out in the kitchen. Robin introduced her to her brother when he came in, but she didn't usually interact much with the patients. She wasn't used to seeing them when they came in battered on the inside and outside. So, when she sees the light under the door in Keith's room every morning, she starts the habit of bringing him coffee.
At Hathaway House, the patients are busy working to improve themselves while the workers are doing their best to make the stay the best they can. And when relationships happen...they are built not on the physical but genuinely getting to know the other person. And hopefully, giving hope to the patient. Wonderful series. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
Another sweet story about the difficult rehab and recovering of one of our great country’s heroes. Keith has endured so much and is still healing from the multitude of surgeries he’s had. He’s emotionally spend and has no enthusiasm to try anymore.
Ilsa is a gentle soul that has found her niche in life helping people by feeding them. One can communicate in subtle ways when meeting the needs of people through their favorite foods. Ilsa knows providing a varied selection of good, wholesome meals helps keep people engaged and feeling good and raises their spirits.
I enjoyed how Ilsa brought Keith out of his shell with just a simple routine and a cup of coffee. Who doesn’t love that first cup of coffee in the morning? I love the message of this story, never give up, you just have to try, and take it day-by-day.
When Keith moves to Hathaway House for rehabilitation on his sister’s recommendation and insistence, he doesn’t expect much let alone meeting a woman he wants more with. Ilse runs her kitchen at the House like a well oiled machine, keeping her staff and all the residences happy and fed. She doesn’t expect to be drawn to the man who seems like he’s given up, and starts bringing him coffee every morning. Keith has a long way to go and if Ilse is by his side, he will get there with a smile on his face. Another heartwarming read with instant attraction that grows to be more. No drama, no jealousies, and no misunderstandings. The story flowed nicely, the characters were amazing and the ending was great. I would have liked to know if he ever gets in touch with his dad or ends that completely. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
In this book in the Hathaway House series by Dale Mayer, the inner workings of the commercial kitchen is revealed. Through the previous books the dining room and the food have been as an integral part of Hathaway House as the rehab facilities. Robin’s brother Keith has arrived, grumpy and unsure of what will be achieved at this new rehab centre. Chef Ilse becomes involved bringing Keith coffee each morning. Ilse does not usually get to know the patients but because of Robin makes an effort to help Keith settle in more. Keith’s delight in the food warms Ilse’s heart, reminding her of the role the kitchen staff play helping the patients get the utmost benefit of their time at Hathaway House. This series is a feel-good inspirational, leave you feeling better than you were. Enjoy!

A touching and inspiring read centered around Hathaway House Rehab Center, a safe haven for a second chance at life and love. Keith Carruthers has had many surgeries and comes to Hathaway House at his sister's insistence. He meets and forms a bond with Ilse Wistbury, head chef who rarely ventures out of the kitchen she manages. As soon as I started reading I was completely captivated by their beautiful story and didn't want the book to end when I got to the last page. Ms. Mayer has given us another winner and I look forward to book twelve in this must-read series. I received an advance reader copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Keith and Ilse are the latest sweethearts at Hathaway House. Keith is feeling pretty disillusioned with life in general as well as his own future when he arrives at Hathaway for his rehab. Ilse is the head chef over the Hathaway House kitchen when she randomly meets Keith and shares a cup of coffee ☕. This is another reason why I read books 📚 by Dale Mayer, we see 👀 the build-up between the main characters from the beginning. As well as the aspects of their own life experiences they are dealing with at the time. Very uplifting with a satisfactory HEA.

Hathaway House of Healing are a series of standalone books. They can be read out of order. I love the beloved characters, both the newcomers and the regulars found within the pages of the books. Keith and Isle, a wounded warrior and a hard working chef. There is romance but also deep thought in the healing process. Emotional healing as well as physical healing. A warm friendship which develops despite fears and hesitancy, a gentle romance for all ages. Bravo!

I really enjoyed this latest addition to the Hathaway House series, this romance can be read as a standalone story.
Keith has gone to Hathaway House for recovering as his sister works at the vet downstairs, unsure as to how his treatment will be different here compared to where he was, he doesn't try to befriend many except for the cook, Ilse who sees the man he is. As she slowly befriends Keith, the connection they share from their first meeting between stronger and deeper.
Well-written story, plenty of drama and emotion. Wonderful characters with well developed personalities.
Another Winner For Dale Keith’s story is so full of love, anxiety, family relationships and good food. Keith came to Hathaway House because of his sister, Robin. He’s had so much happening to him that he feels this place is not for him until a 5 am coffee call and even then he’s not sure. The cast of characters from Hathaway House are there Dani, Shane, Dennis, and of course the animals. Missed the General but our friendly psychologist did a lot of providing insight to Keith. Wish I could have the recipes for some of the food created by the kitchen staff. A quick easy read.
I liked how Keith was Robin's brother so there was a bigger connection with the characters as well as getting to know the kitchen staff better. Ilse always stays in the background ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly and making delicious food but when Keith turns up at Hathaway House a spark starts and both she and Keith learn happiness is nice to have in life. Both go through self reflection, highs and lows as well as learning that its good to have people to lean on when needed.

Hathaway House is an awesome series. In this entry we meet Keith and Ilse. Kieth does not want to be there and wants nothing to do with the place. He feels he is not going to get any better. But Hathway house has a different plan in mind! Here he and Ilse meet and develop a loving friendship! This story and all the Hathway house books are about relationship and NOT sex! An enchanting story about building real love with your best friend! Can't wait for the next one.

Hathaway House is a rehab haven for wounded warriors. Keith has arrived there after multiple surgeries and in an intensely depressed state, angry at the world and unable to see himself in a better condition. Ilse is the chef in charge of the food service. Lonely but devoted to her work, she arrives very early and notices Keith is also awake. She offers to bring him coffee. A friendship develops and eventually leads to more. The Hathaway House books always delve into the emotions of the characters. This one was so sweet bringing Ilse and Keith together. Loved it and recommend it.
Always a new story about disabled vets in need. Keith was a mess after multiple surgeries and like all the others before him, lot that was his lot in life. But once he got out of his head and really started to be invested, he could see results, but had a long way to go. Ilse is the chef there and stopped by his room one morning to give him a cup of coffee and his world brightened even more. Loved to watch their journey together and their HEA.
A beautiful love story from start to finish. A very nice slow build up just not straight into it. Both have a past that needs to be revisit so they can move forward together. Its great to see the trials of everyday life written into this story. The try try and try again attitude is nice to see. Together they grow facing life and its choices, moving forward onto the next journey in life. a relaxing read.
